Great service, excellent food and the drinks offering was exceptional. Best I've seen in any hotel. Breakfast was decent too. Spa and gym facilities were excellent, loads of equipment. I had an executive room which was the best on offer. It was tired, not particularly clean either. Loads of dust behind the TV and there were stains on the bed runner. The door handle of the bathroom opened directly on to the edge of the shower glass, stupid design floor. Someone unknowingly opens the bathroom door too hard and thats a disaster waiting to happen. Needs addressing urgently. Finally, the lighting in the car park is very poor. Extremely difficult to see where you're walking when moving from the gym back to the hotel. Aside from that, the stay was great.

Great hotel. Stayed one night. Great hotel staff. Convenient check in and check out. Hotel is a bit worn in a few places but are minor issues, and I will not hesitate to stay again. The shower controller knob (I didn't use the shower as I used the spa) had lost its front. Bathroom door worn out towards the bottom. Balcony double glazed door needed a good tug (as I was instructed by the reception gent who offered to come help me if I needed). A phone in the room like the good old days. Has a room safe (I didn't use). Beautifully maintained garden. I could see the gardener working during breakfast. Great breakfast buffet selection and great waiting staff. Really great hot coffee from the machine. The spa needs a little bit of a refresh with shower knobs replaced etc. When I went in the reception staff told me I couldn't use the facilities as I it was a members only club, which was confusing and stressful. I didn't realise it was mainly a gym/ spa open to paying members that hotel guests have access to. Before I returned to the hotel disappointed I asked "are you sure lion quays hotel guests have no access here" and he said "are you a hotel guest"? Then I was let in. I was only asked if I was a club member. But to be assumed I was walking in from the street was discourteous. I wondered if there was some unconscious bias but hope not. Maybe a misunderstanding. They were fine after. But left a slight bad feeling. It was overall a nice stay. Nice location too.

Had a spa weekend and dinner booked. There was a whole host of issues with our stay. - started the day at the spa where we were all booked in for treatments. 2 out of the 4 of us didn’t get the treatment we’d booked. - after the treatments we wanted to use the pool and other facilities but the doors to the steam room and sauna were broken so couldn’t use them. - After the spa we went into the spa cafe. No one else was in the cafe, but the service was incredibly slow just for the 4 of us. Then my friend asked for a glass of water, and was told NO with no further explanation. - We then went to check in. We had booked the hotel well in advance, and had made a request that our two rooms we’d booked were close to each other. When we checked in, we were on different floors. There was a broken mirror in the bathroom. -Went for dinner to find that the ‘kitchen was having some problems’ and that there were only 2 main dishes available from the whole menu. Was advised that it wasn’t likely to be sorted, so when we asked should we find somewhere else to eat, was told that we probably should. So we left the hotel and went somewhere else for dinner. - Went back to the hotel and couldn't sleep as the rooms were so warm. There looked to be an AC unit, but it wouldn’t work. The rooms were also very noisy. Overall, we found the staff to be fairly unhelpful, and inexperienced. And the hotel was dated and in need of some TLC.

The spa is amazing. The food is priced very reasonable and is delicious we weren’t going to eat there thinking it’ll be overpriced as there’s not much around, however we were pleasantly surprised. Our only problem was our room. Lovely room think we got upgraded but we found a very dirty sock at side of the bed with some dirty tissues. (Crusty) we told the staff and they made a note of it.

Walking in it initially looked like a really lovely quiet place but as we spent more time the more flaws we noticed the worse it began to look. My biggest problem was the room was quite dirty and the headboard was crumbling away onto our pillows. Hair in shower and dust in cracked sink. The view out the patio doors was nice though. If they put the money into maintaining this hotel it would be so much better! It has such potential to be such a gorgeous place. The same 2 drinks came to do a different total everyday. All the staff were super lovely except the bar staff on the Saturday night were slightly unprofessional. Charged us for someone else’s drinks then my partner had to work the difference he needed to pay for them. Best part was probably the location on the beautiful canal and the Spa but even parts of that were in desperate need of some updating/maintenance. Weirdly some areas looked great/new and other areas really run down and old. Had a mixed experience with the restaurant, all the food we tried was excellent especially the chicken noodles but we had a chicken burger and it wasn’t good. It was clean and a nice atmosphere inside.

Restaurant was lovely, food at our evening meal was superb, breakfast again, top notch, staff in the restaurant and bar so helpful and friendly, cocktails brilliant, Henry makes an amazing “old fashioned”. Room was disappointing, plug in shower damaged, black mould patches in shower, bottom of bathroom door rotten, doors need a good paint, very dirty and worn, heater in room so dirty, I mean disgusting! For a 4 star hotel at this price I expect A LOT better standard. No usb’s to charge devices, strange in this day and age, wouldn’t go back.

The bedrooms need a refurb and deep clean! Dust, cobwebs and dirt on the floor. Ripped net curtain which needs replacing. Tv remote didnt work properly. Opened the balcony doors for fresh air to be met with filthy windows externally and several spiders and cobwebs on the internal edge of the frame. There were 4 spiders in webs in the room which was not good for someone who is scared of them! Did not make for a good night sleep! For what is charged it really needs to be better. Staff were great.

Room was not cleanest when we checked in with stains on the bedding. Had to wait a long time at reception to speak to someone about it. The lady seemed very over worked but was great and changed our room right away so cannot fault her. Overall I would say the hotel rooms look tired and in need of freshen up and deep clean. We stayed for 2 nights and had a spa experience. The spa was amazing and well worth the money. The hotel was clean and comfortable. We would have liked a sofa area to chill and relax, in the main hotel part. The breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice.

Myself and cousin had to be moved at midnight to another. Reception said they would come up to the room with in 5 minutes and an hour late they finally came up. We came back from have food and there an infestation of flies in the room and some lady birds. Hotel building, grounds are beautiful and spa is incredible, but rooms are dated and noisy. I was on the ground floor and you can hear noise all outside of the bar /restaurant area. The net curtains on the windows were stained, there was a dirty food stain on the wall near the table, and the wardrobe paint is flaking off. Poor/no soundproofing I could hear all neighbours, and was woken up by external noise at 5:50am. TV didn't work ,only showed radio stations. Food in restaurant was very good, and bar staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast food was basic- one type of sliced bread, basic pastries etc. Hot breakfast food was not hot as it is simply kept in ceramic pots on hot rings, so all of the "hot" food is lukewarm. Luckily I stayed on business, as I would not be happy paying £150 for 1 night here.

The hotel is completely outdated and is in urgent need of refurbishment. The room was very smelly I had to use cologne a few times to try and manage it. The bathroom was too small! The lift stopped suddenly on arrival to your floor — not good! The whole hotel needs to be modernised. The internet was completely atrocious. We could not work there at all! The Spa was the exceptional. I would recommend a Spa Day but do not book the hotel.

Room very tired.Skirting boards scuffed and dirty. Shower over bath very narrow, shower gel dispenser broken but not replaced,battery flat in room safe,so not working, and blinds broken so would not close properly, meaning it got light early! Many flies at the breakfast buffet.

Loved the spa and swimming facilities, lovely atmosphere and nice and clean. Good restaurant with great breakfast, excellent quality. The room was the only thing that let the stay down. The air con didn’t work, the balcony was tiny and very old, the bathroom looked very poorly finished and the shower tray was a little mouldy. I paid extra to have a canal view room and it really wasn’t worth it.

I booked the suite room for my husbands birthday and it did not disappoint, the suite is absolutely gorgeous if it had a kitchen we'd have moved in :) Great place to stay, lovely surroundings, nice staff and tasty food. Perfect 👌

Hotel building, grounds are beautiful and spa is incredible, but rooms are dated and noisy. I was on the ground floor and you can hear noise all outside of the bar /restaurant area. The net curtains on the windows were stained, there was a dirty food stain on the wall near the table, and the wardrobe paint is flaking off. Poor/no soundproofing I could hear all neighbours, and was woken up by external noise at 5:50am. TV didn't work ,only showed radio stations. Food in restaurant was very good, and bar staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast food was basic- one type of sliced bread, basic pastries etc. Hot breakfast food was not hot as it is simply kept in ceramic pots on hot rings, so all of the "hot" food is lukewarm. Luckily I stayed on business, as I would not be happy paying £150 for 1 night here.

Having spent a while trying to choose a hotel in the area the reviews for this one looked good (which is suspicious based on my experience there) and so we booked it. I stay in 30/40 hotels/yr and this was one of the worst I ever been in. They didn’t acknowledge Expedia status and we were offered the discount etc. the room and bathroom were tiny. Worst of all though was the condition of the room. It stunk of smoke, was dirty and starting to fall apart (see photos). I’m not sure anyone could disagree if they see the pics I took. I was told the hotel was full so we couldn’t move. The AC was broken (seems they’ve decided they don’t offer AC anymore), the safe was broken, there were stains everywhere (including the lampshades), the doors were started by to rot and there are no windows (so you need to leave the door open all night or put up with the heat). Even with the door open, the room was warm and I struggled to sleep. WiFi was poor and struggled to stream Netflix. Mobile phone coverage is also poor in the area so we had to rely on the WiFi. The bar is not in the hotel, you need to cross the courtyard. The spa is not in the hotel, it’s a 1-2 mins walk (uncovered). Breakfast was ok but some items are extra (which we weren’t made aware of when ordering). Doors and wooden surfaces around the ‘resort’ are rotting and unpainted. The owners clearly don’t want to spend money on the place so it’s getting into a very poor state. Maybe some rooms have been renovated?

Room looked tired and was in need of updating and shower floor needed a full re-grout. But the restaurant and bar area were lovely and the food was surprisingly good. Had to send my starter back, as despite declaring I was a coeliac 3 times, on booking, on entry to the restaurant and again on ordering, they still sent it out with normal bread on. Once highlighted though the staff were quick to send it back and it was re-made which was good. So often the offending item is simply removed, but I was happy they remade it. The staff were lovely too. And the food was surprisingly good. Yes the hotel is tired, we didn't use the spa so couldn't comment, but we had a lovely stay anyway.

The food was excellent, we enjoyed a 3 course meal and every part of it was beautiful. I found the spa / leisure staff quite rude and not very helpful. We also had to move rooms on arrival and the room we were moved to wasn't as nice / modern. It was clean, affordable and worth the money but slightly let down by the staff in the leisure building.

The hotel was our final stop after completing the 3 peaks challenge. A bunch of broken bodies turned up & headed for the hot tub & the facilities at the pool certainly didn’t disappoint. The reception staff were excellent juggling a large group and completing dinner orders at the same time. I asked for 2 of my 7 rooms to be changed from doubles to twins and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent, the bar & restaurant staff attentive and polite and breakfast the following morning very high standard. Cleanliness was exceptional, your hotel certainly ticked all the boxes.

Quite a nice hotel (although signage on the way in is poor). The bar was really busy when I stayed on Mon due to a conference. Only had 2 bar staff on, who were understandably busy. No acknowledgement that they'd be with you shortly, and even when eventually served, no welcome, no smile, no nothing. Returned later that night and the bar was empty, no staff at all. Waited over 5 mins and then 3 staff appeared and still no acknowledgement. Another customer had to ask them if anyone was working, and then the same lady promptly served someone at the other end, who'd just appeared. If you work in customer service, you probably should have some basic service skills (knowing who has been waiting and offering service with a smile!).

Location is very nice near the canal and there is good ample parking. Nice level entrance to get around which is good for luggage. The hotel itself could do with some refurbishment as carpets were torn and worn in places. I didn't use the spa facilities so cannot comment on that but there was an air of tiredness about the public areas. The restaurant has a good menu but the tables are really sticky from the spray used to wipe them down. The breakfast had a great selection of items and the staff are reallly lovely and welcoming.

Lovely place at a good price. We had a two night stay at this hotel while visiting Llangollen, rooms are nice and clean with wonderful views. Both lady’s on reception were so nice and helpful. We had a lovely chat with Ellie and both are a credit to the hotel. Buffet breakfast was very tasty with a great selection. We had dinner on both nights and the crispy chilli beef was very good. Also plenty of parking and an excellent spa and pool. One we will definitely return to 😊

We had a lovely overnight stay at The Lion Quays resort, my husband was able to check in to our room early, whilst my cousin and I went on a very nice spa day in the separate facility on site. The hotel site is showing some signs of wear and tear, the carpets are tired and worn in places, the decking on the moorings is a bit rotten but it looks as though they’re starting to replace it. This however, didn’t really spoil anything for us. Our room had a lovely view of the canal with doors you could open up and take in the fresh air, the proximity to the A5 means there is some road noise almost all the time, but this didn’t bother us. Overall the room was well appointed and clean, though we couldn’t figure out how to get the tv to work other than as a radio and it would’ve been helpful to have had more than one USB socket, as we both forgot our charger plugs. Large comfy bed, no complaints there. We had booked B&B, and the breakfast buffet in the adjacent restaurant was excellent. Everything you’d generally want in a good British buffet, including decent coffee. The proximity to the Llangollen canal meant we could get straight onto the tow path and enjoyed a lovely walk up to Chirk and back. Well worth it to view the aqueduct and viaduct. You can go further through the tunnel and there’s lots to explore. We’d go back. It’s a nice, convenient place to stay. The spa facilities are also excellent and they use Elemis products which is always a bonus from my point of view.

The welcome from the team was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Started in a beautiful canal view room without balcony. As the weather was so pleasant and the canal river boats passing we asked very quickly if there was any chance we could move to a juliet balacony or ideally a terrace with table and chairs. We dropped lucky and would highly recomend these rooms. The Spa was excellent and the 30 mins massage chairs were amazing and different 😀 Overall very worthwhile stay and a lovely place to explore.

Really nice chilled out environment, Really helpful staff, very relaxing with excellent spa treatments onsite if required or just relax with ambient atmosphere when using the swimming pool, sauna, steam, hydrotherapy area's giving it a pure chilled vibe to unwind, we booked an executive room with a canal view, just watching the barge boats go past whilst having a beer next to the water it was a very good & relaxed atmosphere, we would definitely be returning to the hotel/spa we had excellent weather that made our trip even better after a day of canoeing over the tallest Aqueduct.

The hotel is located outside town and close to the A5 road. It very quiet and has plenty of parking. The restaurant offers great food at reasonable prices. Some customers had a free bottle of wine while none was offered to us. Not clear how that works.

For an executive room it was very tired. The bed definately needed a new mattress it was very soft. The bar area was pleasant but again looked very tired. Dirty stained chairs and marks on wall. Really friendly staff and service, The room was clean and good standard. We had dinner at the restaurant which was extremely nice both myself and my partner enjoyed the food. Now the not so good bits.. The halls are a bit dated and could do with being updated The walls are definitely paper thin and definitely need to be soundproof as other reviews have suggested. Breakfast was disappointing not the same standard as the evening meal was and it was in the same restaurant

We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was dreadful. We were then significantly overcharged. When we challenged this the waitress was rude and extremely confrontational. The breakfast in the morning was terrible and cold. So bad that the four of us ate almost nothing and had to stop for breakfast on the way home. The rooms were not clean and in dire need of some serious maintenance. So disappointed.

The staff were lovely friendly and informative I did love the spa but the pool was too cold to stay in for too long Breakfast was good and the rooms were good As a solo traveller it was expensive accomodation but overall I enjoyed it

Lovely staff and restaurant. Food and service in the restaurant was fabulous. The leisure area was lovely although half the jacuzzi wasn’t working. The walkways at night from the spa area need to be lit up as it was quite dangerous. Room was comfortable. Some shared areas look like they need refurbishment.

Easy check in, lots of parking, room clean, bed comfortable, dinner very good. TV and WiFi great, able to plug our Roku in easily. Shower a bit dribbly, bed top cover stained and torn. Overall, excellent.
