This is a really nice hotel and the staff were wonderful. The property is a bit isolated so be prepared to drive if you need anything other than which the hotel can provide. The restaurant and bar were great as was the complimentary breakfast. Overall, a very pleasing experience and I can confidently recommend.

We found the staff welcoming and friendly. The rooms were comfortable with everything one would need for a short stay. The breakfast buffet bar simply groaned with a huge range of cold food and drinks and there was a good menu for cooked alternatives. We were only able to fit in one evening meal and we went for the specials choosing fish for both starter (trout paté) and for mains – as we were near the sea, we decided on ‘catch of the day’ which turned out to be sea bass. The latter was both delicious and substantial – being presented to us by the very competent chef. This certainly was the highlight of our visit.

If your discovering the south downs ie Arudel Castle etc this gem of a find is worth the stop over. Its a Fabulous building. Warm welcome from Sue and her team. Very nice interior. Loved the fish and chips Dinner. Bar and food very good value. Our room (3) was a real lovely surprise well furnished and huge. We stayed in Arundal the previous night which wasnt a patch on this lovely place. We visited Arundal Shoreham and the prettiest village in the downs Amberley.

The property had a large car park, checking in was easy. We stayed in a twin room outside the main property. The room was like a little cottage overlooking the garden. Inside the room, it was very spacious and traditional, with beams. It had a shower and bath, with a separate toilet. The beds were large and comfortable. The room had everything we needed seating area, tv , also the wifi was good. We ate at the restaurant in the evening, the food was exceptional. I had a burger, chips and slaw and it is one of the best I have ever had. We also had breakfast, the continental breakfast was included in the nightly rate. The cooked breakfast was £10 extra. Both are extremely good value and delicious. I found the staff on Sunday to be very friendly and welcoming. All in all a great place to stay and value for money I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

Very easy early check in with luggage to be delivered to room when ready. Unfortunately message not passed on so with late arrival at 10.15pm and desk closed unable to access luggage and medications etc, and no response to telephone call as unstaffed after 10pm. Bar closed too. Room very comfortable and good continental breakfast. Very comfortable country hotel.

Disappointed in our overall presentation in our room. The hotel had very nicely upholstered furniture but the sofa in our room was unsuitable and quite tatty. It felt unfinished. We couldn't rely on an evening meal bring available as the hotel cater for outside functions. We have stayed here before and our experience then was better than this stay. The hotels position for touring is ideal

This is a wonderful old hotel with lovely old beams and lots of nooks and crannies, room was great, staff were great and food was great. An ideal base for Arundel and the South Downs.

The staff are tremendous. There were three issues, I had to wait 40 minutes for a dinner slot. I was told I need a reservation and booked 7:30pm and was taken to my table at 8:10pm. I had to wait 10 minutes at reception to pick up my key on night two, as my room payment had not been recorded at reception. There was alot of mould around the edge of the bath which I discreetly reported on my first night which was not cleaned up. However the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The bathroom needs updating and when we moved furniture, there was enormous amounts of dust everywhere. Breakfast was good even though they don’t offer a cooked breakfast. Not sure the manager should sit in bar next to guests. Bit uncomfortable. Should be behind the bar or elsewhere in hotel

The owner did allow us to change rooms for the second night’s stay and the bed was fine. I would definitely not rate this hotel 4 star as the rooms are so outdated and old. This is a 3 star hotel. I also think for the price they charge that a cooked breakfast should be included not an extra expense.

There are 2 rooms that adjoin the main stairs, and both get all the noise from downstairs through the evening and specially later on as voice's get louder after a few bevvies have been consumed. Even after last orders people go to the lounge and continue with even louder voices. And tbis room is directly below one of these rooms. This makes for a noisy stay in certain rooms because there are no courteous notices to advise and respect for other guests after 11pm.

The room was very comfortable and homely. I was woken by a droning noise which on inspection was coming from either a boiler or air conditioning unit outside by the kitchen area. I put the tv on low to cover it and did go back to sleep. The check in was smooth and friendly. Unfortunately the heating wasn’t working but the site manager came over and discovered that the boiler wasn’t working so there was no hot water or heating. I was offered another room but I had already unpacked and it was late so he brought me another blanket. I would definitely stay here again as the hotel is lovely and service excellent. Okay there was a problem, but sometimes things like I had do happen but it’s how things are dealt with are important.

We had a great stay. All staff very helpful. In the bridal suite which was bright and warm. Lots of hot water for the lovely bath. We arrived later than we liked but were still able to have a meal. Reception is not manned 24hrs but not a problem as your room key also lets you in the front door. Already thinking of booking our next stay.

There seemed to be a lack of professionalism about the running, When tea cups were not in our room we were asked to carry them there, instead of some one being told to. No suitcase stands in the room. Mattress uncomfortable. Hangers in the wardrobe broken and held together with sticky tape.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel and rooms are very clean. The first night I stayed I didn’t sleep at all as the bed’s mattress was either broken or extremely old. The owner did allow us to change rooms for the second night’s stay and the bed was fine. I would definitely not rate this hotel 4 star as the rooms are so outdated and old. This is a 3 star hotel. I stayed here about 6 years ago, and really enjoyed it. Not so great this time. We were told we could have breakfast from 7am, which was good because we wanted to travel for a meeting at 8.30 about half an hour away. When we got to breakfast all was locked up, and a member of staff said breakfast did not start until 8am. When we checked in the day before, I ordered and paid for a full English breakfast. The staff were unaware of that in the morning, I had to remind them, and then the asked for 'my ticket', which made no sense as I was not given one, and they shrugged it off. All a bit casual. We were late for our meeting.

This is a really nice hotel and the staff were wonderful. The property is a bit isolated so be prepared to drive if you need anything other than which the hotel can provide. If your discovering the south downs ie Arudel Castle etc this gem of a find is worth the stop over. Its a Fabulous building. Warm welcome from Sue and her team. Very nice interior. Loved the fish and chips Dinner. Bar and food very good value. Our room (3) was a real lovely surprise well furnished and huge. We stayed in Arundal the previous night which wasnt a patch on this lovely place. We visited Arundal Shoreham and the prettiest village in the downs Amberley.

On both occasions we had to wait over two hours before our meals were served! The menu was not very varied and one of us had to have the same burger two nights in a row (we stayed for two nights) Non of us will be using this hotel again which is a pity because it use to be so good.

The property had a large car park, checking in was easy. We stayed in a twin room outside the main property. The room was like a little cottage overlooking the garden. Inside the room, it was very spacious and traditional, with beams. It had a shower and bath, with a separate toilet. The beds were large and comfortable. The room had everything we needed seating area, tv , also the wifi was good. We ate at the restaurant in the evening, the food was exceptional. Disappointed in our overall presentation in our room. The hotel had very nicely upholstered furniture but the sofa in our room was unsuitable and quite tatty. It felt unfinished. We couldn't rely on an evening meal bring available as the hotel cater for outside functions. We have stayed here before and our experience then was better than this stay. The hotels position for touring is ideal

We found the staff welcoming and friendly. The rooms were comfortable with everything one would need for a short stay. The breakfast buffet bar simply groaned with a huge range of cold food and drinks and there was a good menu for cooked alternatives. We were only able to fit in one evening meal and we went for the specials choosing fish for both starter (trout paté) and for mains – as we were near the sea, we decided on ‘catch of the day’ which turned out to be sea bass. The latter was both delicious and substantial – being presented to us by the very competent chef. This certainly was the highlight of our visit.

The staff are tremendous. There were three issues, I had to wait 40 minutes for a dinner slot. I was told I need a reservation and booked 7:30pm and was taken to my table at 8:10pm. I had to wait 10 minutes at reception to pick up my key on night two, as my room payment had not been recorded at reception. There was alot of mould around the edge of the bath which I discreetly reported on my first night which was not cleaned up. However the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room was round the back opposite where all the kitchen waste was on display. Room itself was quite small, with dated white furniture which need repainting in places. Bathroom was ok. Communal areas were satisfactory, one of the tables needed a good clean or renovation Food was surprisingly good. On Friday evening one girl was on duty, booking us in, serving behind the bar and serving in the restaurant. Plenty of staff the following two days. Usually one charges, drinks, meals etc, to your room and settle up when you leave. Annoyingly had to pay for everything as we went along. Attractive looking place, but would not choose to stay here again.

Do not stay here - Extremely dissappointing and very unprofessional staff. Oldergentlemen heard swearing and abusing other staff members in ear shot of customers. Staff were not able to use the till and i was over charged for items that I didn't have. Meal ordered and wasn't what I ordered had to re-order. The food wasn't fresh and staff lied about my food order. Reception staff completely incompetent. I was charged twice for my stay. My room was extremely dark and I had to have light on during the day just to see anything, plus both bathroom lights were not working. The sky light in the bathroom wouldn't open and was covered in debris resilting in making it even darker. Staff just walked into my room without knocking while I was getting changed. Extremelypoor night's sleep due to very loud traffic noise heard from road. The whole experience was so bad I left before the end of my visit and induced a panic attack. Please do not stay at this hotel as the staff simply do not care about their customer experience what so ever.

The hotel was full of character and clearly a very old building. The cooked breakfast was extra, it would be a bonus if you could order specifically what you did and didn’t want, eg extra egg but no black pudding etc. No complaints just a bit old and average but the staff were all friendly and helpful. Rooms smelt a bit of bleach / damp.
