good for a one night stay. good parking right out front. slightly dated building/decor and room but it was clean. kettle in room but no fridge or microwave. tv in room but didn’t work. comfy bed. easy to find but layout of property/buildings is strange. there is a building where reception can be found but our room was in a different building that didn’t have any sign indicating that that building had guest rooms in there. was provided self check in instructions however, our code didn’t work. we went to reception and they just gave us a key instead. thin walls and you can hear guests talking in the hallways or other rooms quite easily. that didn’t really bother us though, and for a one night stay, it was fine.

The hotel receives three and a half stars out of five but we found thst over generous. It claims a 24/7 reception but there was no one in reception when we arrived. Our room number and access code were written on a folded (and sealed) piece of paper. The rooms are in a seperate block with a vending machine and microwave just jnside the entrance. Not what we were expecting for 3.5 stars. The carpet in the hallway is quite old and there are stairs down to the last few rooms, making it a little difficult to navigate with heavy roller cases. The room was clean but very basic. Their was a message apologizing that the TV had no connection and saying that the hotel was waiting for a service person to fix the problem. This was in October. We looked at other reviews from June that talked of the same problem! The wifi did work well tho', so we watched "TV" on our laptop. Some of the 5 star reviews were given because of excellent restaurant food. That seems to be based on recommendations to a local restaurant. The hotel does not serve diner. Breakfast was good, with lots of fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, and hot food etc. The breakfast staff were very helpful.

Straight forward and clean hotel by the side of the road. Friendly staff, will provide you with a door code via email if you arrive late, so keeping you flexible in your travels. Room was clean and spacious. Hotel back unto a hill, so the rooms with the even numbers get the view of the planes and ocean (and possibly northern lights), whereas the uneven numbers (incl. my room) get just the incline of the hill right outside the window. Access to the hotel is a 1km gravel road, which is also something to consider in case you are driving a compact rental. The breakfast at this hotel was very good with choices beyond the basics by including things like salmon. Overall a great place to stay & exactly what I was hoping for

The positives of this property are its geographic beauty, and a lovely high hike able hill in back, overlooking the coast, all near a lovely area. Puffins, and a fairly nice small town are about 10-15 minutes. The property is an old farm (?) that they are adding buildings with rental rooms to. The hotel rooms were fine, clean and generally comfortable (we had 2 rooms). I hope they invest in basic small refrigerators for the rooms to make it possible as a tourist to keep even a leftover meal overnight. The big turn off is the main building and check in is connected to a structure that is literally crumbling and abandoned. (broken windows, crumbling walls etc) My first impression was of a building that should be actually knocked down. Once inside the check in/dining area, it is clean, and staff is nice. However, the impression of actual crumbling blight is a huge turn off.

The parking wasn't paved and there were potholes. The road to the hotel is bumpy as well. The bathroom was clean. Breakfast was decent. TV wasn't working. Light fixture was broken. The mirror glass was a little shattered as well. The room also has a strong bathroom smell after a bath. The price of the hotel is too pricey for the current condition. I've gotten better hostel experiences in Iceland with half of the price I paid. Also, the staffs weren't really friendly. Some of them give you a nasty face and didn't greet customers. Check out time is at 10:00 which is earlier than most hotels I stayed. The staff gave us a warning at 10:00 that if we don't get out in 2 mins, we'll get charged when we were ready to get out and just want to use the bathroom before we leave. When we arrived at 5pm there was no staff to help with checking in. The room is large with a plenty of space to store things. However the bathroom is super tiny with no place to hang or place toiletries. Breakfast was one of the better ones while traveling in Iceland. Personally I think that for the price we paid there must be better options. Location is good, just off the main road.

Super easy check in. Very quiet place to stay. Breakfast was good as well. Beds were Comfortable. The only thing I didn’t like was how hot the rooms got at night. Otherwise, good location for the day we had planned.

Let’s start with all the positives which include a comfortable bed, a shower with strong water pressure, the room was clean and a plentiful breakfast buffet. The areas that could be improved is having a small fridge in the room. Given that the hotel is a ways from any place to get food or beverages it would have been nice to have a place to put a few things during our three day stay. Also, I sent the hotel a message (using the Hotels.com messaging option) asking for guidance with the tv as it was not working but I never heard anything from them. Maybe being a self serve sort of place I shouldn’t have been surprised. Lastly, one of the bedside reading lights was busted and one of the wall lights was missing a lightbulb. The location is 15 minutes from Vik or any other place with a store or restaurant so just something to keep in mind.

My email confirmation provided information for just one room but we had reserved two. Multiple emails to the property prior to arrival to confirm we had two rooms went unanswered which was very unnerving because we were flying in from the US and going straight to the hotel without knowing if we had the rooms we needed. The self-serve check in was not secure. The property provides a piece of paper with your name on the outside and on the inside the folded paper is the room number and electronic door lock code. Because it is just a folded paper (not inside an envelope or taped/stapled closed) everyone has access to all of the door lock codes. I wonder if they even change the door lock codes between guests. The breakfast provided was well stocked and outstanding. The property is not close to town so the provided breakfast was very helpful to have.

Not what we were expecting for 3.5 stars. The carpet in the hallway is quite old and there are stairs down to the last few rooms, making it a little difficult to navigate with heavy roller cases. We looked at other reviews from June that talked of the same problem! The wifi did work well tho', so we watched "TV" on our laptop. Some of the 5 star reviews were given because of excellent restaurant food. That seems to be based on recommendations to a local restaurant. The hotel does not serve diner. Breakfast was good, with lots of fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, and hot food etc. The breakfast staff were very helpful.

Our room number and access code were written on a folded (and sealed) piece of paper. The rooms are in a seperate block with a vending machine and microwave just jnside the entrance. Straight forward and clean hotel by the side of the road. Friendly staff, will provide you with a door code via email if you arrive late, so keeping you flexible in your travels. Room was clean and spacious. Hotel back unto a hill, so the rooms with the even numbers get the view of the planes and ocean (and possibly northern lights), whereas the uneven numbers (incl. my room) get just the incline of the hill right outside the window. Access to the hotel is a 1km gravel road, which is also something to consider in case you are driving a compact rental. The breakfast at this hotel was very good with choices beyond the basics by including things like salmon. Overall a great place to stay & exactly what I was hoping for

Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that there was an issue with our room so we were moved to another property down the road. 3 stars only because we did not stay there. It was a quiet location. We ended up staying at hotel Dyrholaey - 2 minutes down the road. Assuming same staff since same owners? Hótel was quiet, clean, quick check in. Nice and dark so it was great to view the northern lights here.

The staff at the desk were so wonderful. Gave us lots of suggestions for dinner options nearby, and some great lookout sights for midnight sun. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the food was very clean.

The guy at reception seemed to just wanted us to go to our rooms. Then, the next day, one of the armchairs in my room broke while I was sitting on it. Luckily, I wasn’t hurt. I asked at the reception desk to replace it, but they just removed the broken one, and didn’t replace it. Breakfast was fine, with one exception: all food was removed from the buffet table, promptly at 9:30, without any ‘warning’, while people, (including us) were not done yet. One thing is to not let new guests come in after 9:30, but to remove all food from the buffet table, was a real stretch. Same feeling again ‘just go already’… Lastly, house keeping did not include garbage removal from our rooms. They just made our beds, and put fresh towels.

The hotel was nicely isolated and quiet, and convenient to Reynisfjara Beach, while not being far from Vik and nearby attractions. Pillows were great! Thanks for supplying Kleenex (which we never did find at a store). Shower had great water pressure. Breakfast buffet was wonderful!

Very good breakfast with good options and a beautiful view. Youll have to drive into the town of Vik if you want to shop etc. But it was very nice to be away from the hustle & bustle that is Vik.

We really enjoyed Hotel Burfell. The proximity to everything we wanted to see and experience was awesome. In fact, I was just reminiscing with my husband about the beautiful drive from the hotel to Vik. The hotel is nicely situated away from the road on the side of a mountain with no other buildings nearby. A very peaceful location with open fields. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and provided everything we needed to fuel us for our hikes. Staff was helpful and friendly. If I may make a very small suggestion, that would be to have room darkening shades that completely close with no gaps to let light in since it never got dark while we were there (sunset was at 11:30pm and sunrise was at 3:00am). We highly recommend Hotel Burfell and would definitely return.

The place looks terrible from the outside and it’s a mile down a dirt road. Once inside the rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast is terrific. It’s not actually in Vik it’s a bit of a drive to town.

Property did not receive the food shipment so there was nothing to eat for dinner in that area. Our room had no darkening shades, where others did, making it dificult to aleep with light hitting you. Breakfast was good. Bathroom was nice, much nicer than the rest of the accommodations. Overall average country cottage kind of feel. Not bad.

We had to change the plan of driving from Vík to Hofn due to the #1 road broken by flood. We stayed in this hotel near Vik to wait for another day. The staffs were friendly and the room was clean. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast in the hotel, very tasty and satisfactory. The TV didn’t work though, which was the only thing to mention. Otherwise, highly recommended.

We arrived after 22:00 so used the self check in which worked fine. The room was basic, but a bit warm. The bathroom had no place to store toiletries, it was large enough so maybe a table could be added. The breakfast was typical, and I enjoyed the fresh grainy bread. The two pillows were lovely, so thank you for that nice touch.
