citizenM Boston Back Bay

Hotel itself is very nice besides elevators super slow. There is no parking garage or parking so I wouldn’t stay here again though.

Everything we expected from CitizenM. The only issue is elevators. They reserve the two back elevators for the roof bar and send guests away to the front ones, so wait is usually lengthy.

Horrible. Broken elevators the whole time. Tiny uncomfortable rooms. Cold weak showers. Dirty common areas. No parking. Had to park quarter of a mile away. Never never never again.

Well located at the end of Newbury St basically on the Berklee campus. Great rooftop bar with a very lively scene and amazing views. Prep for the self check in and minimal staff interaction

Every inch of the hotel was immaculate and the buffet breakfast was scrumptious. Staff was very knowledgeable. The M in CitizenM stands for Marriot. Yet CitizenM is not yet linked to Marriot's Rewards program. An ambassador explained the situation to me and also answered my question as to why room rates were lower on independent hotel booking sites (they have great data mining). My aging eyes appreciated the adjustable lights and I liked that they had a Peloton bike in the fitness room. I also appreciated the comprehensive toiletry items available (shower cap, comb, toothbrush and toothpaste, nail file and sewing kit). My only complaint is that I missed them when I checked in since they were on the opposite side of the table. Also, signs for the Express Elevator should be larger.

The 24 hour cafe and huge work/lounge area were very nice and welcoming. The breakfast options w/ free espresso coffee refills & the overall atmosphere was great.

The hotel lobby was absolutely beautiful, very chill and comfortable, so many areas to relax and socialize/work. The bar was great also, drinks were amazing. Only thing I didn’t really like was the hotel does not offer parking which I didn’t realize when i booked it. And the rooms do not have an iron, instead there is a community iron on the floor, not a fan of that. The room was smaller than i expected but not a big deal. Otherwise the hotel was bright and beautiful and very clean. Great location.

Great stay, close proximity to everything! At the top of Newbury, tons of places to go in any direction! Very cute Bubble Bath Bar on top of hotel, but it’s 21+ and will not allow anyone under 21 even if they are related to you. Thought that was a bit much, but we just went elsewhere. Not much for under 21 anyway.., room was very compact but had a great view and was very modern. We loved it! (College tour weekend.) do not recommend if you have a shy person going to the bathroom was a new experience with a frosted wall/door and not sure everyone would be ok with it… but super cool experience especially for younger generation!! We had a great time.

The hotel was in the perfect location, clean, quiet, and had a nice rooftop bar attached. Could not recommend more!

Room was clean, the artwork in the hotel is really cool, employees were kind. However, the bathrooms in the common area were filthy, and the tables in the living room area were never bussed for entire days at a time. The dishwasher was down, so no food was available except possibly breakfast? We did not try the breakfast buffet. The room's lights and tv are controlled by an ipad in the room, but it did not work well. The volume on the TV could be turned to LOUD or SUPER LOUD. We loved the location as it is 4 minutes to walk to our son's dorm at Berklee.

Cleanest hotel room I've ever been in. Bed and pillows very comfy. Very modern. Staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. Food was good but a bit pricy for me. Would stay in again, but, I'll bring my own snacks and drinks.

Repeat stay. Convenient and reasonably priced. Room can be better cleaned though.

The rooms are too small, especially for 2 people. There's nowhere to park. We drove around on April 24th for 40 minutes trying to find parking to check in. Also our 1st room b4 being moving to another room was nasty, sheets were very dirty. I'd never stay there again.

The room was extremely clean, which made it a great place to come back to each night. We were in town for a family funeral and every staff member was extremely compassionate and kind. After an exhausting week, we appreciated the deep sleep we had because of the blackout blinds and the very comfortable bed.

You can’t beat the location and functionality of this hotel. The layout is a little funky with having to take 2 elevators to get to your room but the large common area you get to from the first elevator, great bar/breakfast, rooftop patio and gym make up for any odd elevator situation. The room is a great use of the tiny space and is better suited for a solo traveler or close couple. The iPad control of the room lights, curtains, temp and tv is great and easy. Bed is huge and comfy. These are Tokyo style rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

A cruise ship sized room with universal remote capabilities ..It's not fancy but it's unique and extremely easy to adjust to. My favorite part is mood lighting and soundproof feel topped with electric dark and day window screen technology and quirky signage. This location is one of the best for back bay access .

Enjoy our stay here. Walkable to Fenway (about 10 minutes). Bed was comfy but one side was against the wall so the person closest to the wall had to climb over the other person to get out of the bed if you had to use the restroom in the middle of the night.

Room is quite small but if your just sleeping its fine. If its double occupancy, one has to crawl over the other to get in & out of bed.

Stayed here during a scorching 100°F week in Boston, and wow—I’ve never appreciated a well-functioning A/C unit more. The room was spotless, ultra-modern, and perfectly chilled. Seriously, it was like stepping into a tech-savvy cloud of comfort. The lobby is a dream for remote workers or anyone needing a stylish place to chill—tons of tables, comfy chairs, and more outlets than you’ll know what to do with. Plus, the Wi-Fi? Lightning fast, streaming, uploads—no problem at all. Breakfast buffet was a total win. For just $20, I got a solid, tasty spread that fueled me for a full day of exploring. Definitely great value for downtown Boston. Location-wise, it doesn’t get much better—easy access to trains and tons of great shops and restaurants just steps away. You’re right in the action without the noise or chaos. Big shoutout to Chris and the rest of the staff—super friendly, helpful, and just overall chill. You can tell they genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. Would 100% stay again. CitizenM is my new go-to in Boston!

CitizenM Boston Back Bay is at a nice location near the intersection of Mass Ave and Newbury streets. It is about a six-minute walk to the Hynes Convention Center. Our room was clean but very small (one person had to climb over the other to get in the bed). The room had a tablet that controlled the TV, etc. but it did not work, so some hassle getting the app onto a mobile phone instead, There is nice sitting and work area on the main floor, much like a high-end hostel. Wifi worked very well.

The heat was really bad. It was super cold and the hot water was not hot at all other than that a great four star hotel

Views were spectacular, lobby/bar was fun. Good location. Zen ambience with iPad is cool. Water temperature for showers was not hot hot enough and water pressure was low. Not enough towels.

Really comfortable (and massive!!) bed. Blackout blinds, which really appreciate Compact room but so quiet! Close to everything - walked to Newbury Street. Great location. Shower great. Will 100% stay again when in Boston

Places with bigger rooms: Tokyo micro hotels, dorms, Carnival interior rooms. Places with more room amenities: Literally anywhere. Places that I could have stayed at in the same area with higher ratings and similar prices: Quite a few I’ve noticed, and will be staying with one of them next time. Who in the world thought of this concept of having the tiniest room possible, controlled entirely by an iPad (which is really fun when you have to use the bathroom at 3AM), the one single amenity in your room being a box of tissues, and having the most ridiculous shower setup I’ve ever seen? How is this place a chain?! Numerous people in the elevator asked me if my room was also ridiculously tiny, I just don’t get how this hotel is popular or has any business charging Delta prices and giving Spirit service.

Very good location. Accessible subway stations and walkable to Fenway Park. The room itself was very clean however the shower would not get hot, the tv and control for the room both did not work, and when I tried to reach the front desk they did not answer the phone.

I checked in for my stay at CitizenM Boston on the night of June 3. I arrived close to midnight and checked in without any issues. The front desk confirmed they would charge the credit card on file, and I authorized it. I went to my room and went to sleep, expecting everything to be in order. The next afternoon (6/4), I returned from a conference and began getting ready for the evening. Since there was no iron in the room, I went across the hall to the ironing room to iron a shirt/ jacket, only wearing a T-shirt and underwear — no shoes, no phone, just quickly prepping my outfit. When I attempted to return to my room, I was abruptly locked out. What followed was one of the most humiliating experiences I’ve ever had while traveling: After being locked out, I was forced to walk barefoot and underdressed through a crowded hotel lobby to reach the front desk to get this matter resolved — with no warning or explanation from staff beforehand they just locked me out of my room. I was then told I was locked out due to a payment issue, which came as a complete shock. At no point did anyone attempt to call, email, leave a note or otherwise contact me to alert me or ask me to come to the front desk. If someone had reached out, I could have resolved it immediately. The staff's complete lack of communication turned a simple issue into an unnecessarily embarrassing and horrifying ordeal. Even more frustrating: the staff member who checked me in the night before said nothing about any probl

Turns out it is one of those tiny house design places that wows you with the thoughtfulness of its design when you just accept the size, and emphasizes welcoming public space. The self check-in was refreshing. There is no real restaurant, but the breakfast buffet was excellent and vegan friendly, and the bagels actually tasted like bagels. Exceptionally friendly staff.

Wow!! Loved this place!! Excellent location and customer service! Amy was an incredible wealth of information in sharing dining options and things to do around our hotel. The only thing you must be aware is the at the room is really small. Reminded me of hotels in Europe. Other than that…all was perfect!!!!

I’ve stayed at three CitizenM locations and this one had the best service! As always, the rooms and shared areas are lovely.

Easiest check-in I have ever had. Staff was good. They didn’t bother anyone and were rarely seen.

We really enjoyed our stay at CitizenM Back Bay minus the staff! They were not only short handed but short on their customer service! The hotel is convenient and walking distance lots including shopping, Fenway Park, Freedom Park and North End! The room was small but perfect for what we needed with a beautiful view! We did not have breakfast at the hotel and opted to find local eatery’s near by! We would recommend staying here and hope by putting a review their customer service improves and they are fully staffed, in this case we would stay again!

I rate the staff & service as there are literally no service at all and the staff all have a surly look on their face all the time. I have not met a single polite or happy staff. All of them have the look as if we owe them a living. Horrible experience. As for property condition and facilities - the lift experience is the WORST. One it takes too long to go up to the room and on my last day there (Sunday, 28 Sep), the lift broke down and had to go down 12th floor worth of steps carrying my luggage as i was checking out.

From checking in to checking out, the staff was amazing. The receptionists and bar attendants (chef kiss) awesome. Helpful. Friendly. Just all around amazing and what you want in a hotel. I will be back and staying at more CitizenM hotels.

This property was better than I imagined. It was clean and comfortable and ideally located. I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go but it is also right at a T stop and a 10 minute walk to an express bus to the airport The rooms are very small but they are very comfortable and well organized

Great location

Clean room. Easy to get around the city. Uber pick up was easy, getting to the T and orange line was super easy. Lots of restaurants and shopping close by.

We went to an event at Fenway Park. Citizen M was a convenient location. The rooms were clean, very modern and minimalistic. Would stay there again.

This was such an enjoyable stay. The hotel is transitioning into a Marriot Bonvoy. I hope it doesn't change. The room was clean and well-designed. The breakfast was fantastic. I loved the tea choices. The areas to sit and work were amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great location to the convention center. Really, one of my favorites of all time!

I like almost everything but breakfast was not good and fruit was not fresh. Also bar does not serve good food so there is a room for huge improvement in this area.

It would be nice to have simple bagel or muffin for breakfast without having to pay one price for full breakfast.
