The Colesbourne Inn

We had a wonderful stay at the Colbourne Inn. It was all we were hoping for as we toured the Cotswolds. The staff were friendly and hard working. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. We had a nicely decorated large room with ceiling beams, and a large bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Modern with old world charm. We had dinner in the pub restaurant and it was very nice with a good choice. Breakfast was lovely and included in our room price. We enjoyed drinks in the beer garden as the weather was beautiful while we were there. .

Beautiful old inn located with easy access to the town's of the Cotswolds. The Inn had excellent amenities and great food in the pub and dining room.

Walk ways to rooms were uneven and not properly lit

The hotel, pub, food and staff were all excellent. However - There was a wedding being held at the venue and we had not been warned. As a result, we were subjected to loud banging music until midnight and then noisy drunken for another hour. We emerged from our room in the morning to find sick outside our door. If we had been warned, we would have found an alternative venue.

A lovely pub with great ensuite rooms set in a small cottage complex next to the main building so it's nice and quiet. Spacious rooms too

My room was in an annex accessed across the car park, the route was somewhat circuitous along a gravel path to the rear of the building to the entrance, there were other rooms in this annex. My room was on the ground floor, the building felt warm, and I was very impressed with the standard of furnishings, especially high quality blinds and door curtain, coffee and tea, and kettle provided, also TV which was challenging to use! The bathroom had an excellent variety of bath and handwash products, also kleenex tissues. Towels were luxurious. I felt very happy with the accommodation, there was access in better weather to an outside table and chairs. The only problem was that once the blinds were open, you would be in view of others using the footpath. There was a grassy area with plenty of tables and chairs. The inn had a wonderful atmosphere, very casual, log fire, very characterful. Very welcoming staff, especially the waitress/housekeeper, very friendly. A cooked breakfast was on offer. In summary for me travelling alone, the Colesbourne Inn had just the right blend. I assume there was accommodation in the main building also, I stayed just one night, and really enjoyed my time there and would definitely consider staying again, maybe next year as I visit the snowdrops in various locations. Good location for Cirencester and Cheltenham and plentiful snowdrops to see in the area, just go on line for details

Nice walking path around property

We arrived late Sunday afternoon having driven through some horrible weather. The Hotel was easy to find with plenty of parking spaces. We were greeted with a lovely smell of cooked food and the staff were very welcoming and efficient. The bar had an excellent selection of drinks including draught beers. The evening meal we had was delicious and it was obvious other guests were clearly impressed as well. The room was comfortable with on suite bathroom. Breakfast the following morning was also very good. It was our first visit and we hope to return again probably taking friends with us. Great job by all staff members. Thank you.

Surprisingly quiet given it is a pub with accomodation and we stayed on a Saturday night. Hospitable and friendly place. Manager helpful and attentive to detail. Parking hit and miss but overspill car park accessible. Convenient for snowdrop weekends ( next door) Locally sourced breakfast ingredients well cooked.

Some rooms are in another building and are nice simple rooms. They need to work on their cleaning (both in the rooms and the toilets in the restaurant). I don't think our room had been hoovered. (Lots of hair around). We didn't find the beds particularly comfortable and the duvet had been fitted incorrectly (rotated 90 degrees so one side had a flappy cover with no duvet but it hung out the end by 6 inches). That said, the restaurant is very good. Had a lovely dinner and nice breakfast.

Extremely hot and no fans provided. Toilet hadn’t been cleaned properly and we had to ask for this to be done. Quite noisy from main road with windows open. Breakfast ok - bacon was nice but poached eggs overdone

The best thing about the Colesbourne Inn is the outside of the building. After checking in, we ordered two coffees. We were told these would be brought to us. We waited, and after 45 minutes I returned to the bar and told the bar staff I would l would change my order to a glass of wine, however the order for my husband's coffee remained. Apologies given, the person had forgotten. My glass of wine and my husband's coffee were on the house. After a further 30 minutes, my husband went to check on his coffee again. Can you believe the same person had forgotten a second time! He claims that they were busy. They were certainly NOT overrun with customers. The evening meal was very average. However, a marked improvement than breakfast turned out to be the following morning. I'm sure if I had thrown my mushroom against the wall it would have bounced back and the coffee lacked any flavour. How difficult is it to cook breakfast. As for the accommodation, we booked a double premiere. That room was definitely not Premiere. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned, there was green slimey stuff on the shower wall, coffee had been spilt up the side of the bath panel, the sink was cracked and the electric towel rail was on full blast and we couldn't find how to turn the thing off. The bed was uncomfortable although the linen looked freshly laundered. The tea/coffee making facilities are laughable and again filthy. There were cobwebs on the window and paint peeling off the walls.

I would never choose to stay here again. It was one of the most unclean places I have stayed. I would not get into the leaky shower, as I would probably have been more dirty afterwards. The halls and room smelled of musty mold, and it was truly hard to sleep with the smell. The peeling walls were paper thin, hearing everyone on the stairs. Avoid this unkept place, and pick anywhere else to enjoy the Cotswolds, because you won’t here.

We appreciated the historical feel of the Inn. There could be attention paid to cob webs and spider on the ceiling in the bathroom and perhaps some areas may need a paint touch up. Otherwise we enjoyed the accommodation.

This is a quaint little place with only a few rooms which are tastefully decorated. The room is warm and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities and fresh water. Parking is available and free. I had dinner at the pub and it was tasty (expect to pay £25-30 pp.). Breakfast is include and cooked to order (takes a bit of time). My only issue is with the unreliable wifi which impacted me in a negative way because I was on a work trip. Otherwise this is a nice place to stay.

I was disappointed with our stay here. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept in for a long time. We could feel the springs all night and it squeaked when either of us moved. In the morning, the young girl serving seemed very harassed as she was the only one working the room for all the guests. When I went to pay my bar bill before we left, I could only do so by paying the exact money (they had no change) or leave my credit card details in the computer. For an 8 pound bar bill, I wasn’t going to give over my card details so I ended up paying cash and receiving no change. This wasn’t a huge issue but it wasn’t good service.

The room was very clean but noisy as was facing the main road - I am a light sleeper so the vehicles zooming along the road from about 6am was a problem for me. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Tracey the chef was very good and we had 2 excellent evening meals at the Inn as well. All of the staff were very efficient and friendly.

Place is comfortable and reasonably equipped. If you want to be connected to the internet not the place for you zero phone signal and the wifi is pretty much useless due to the ago of the building and the thinkness of the walls. The service was good and food also really good, portions a little on the small side. They catered well for those with allergies especially gluten, with a good separate menu. They did however almost serve my partner non gluten toast at breakfast had I not checked before it was served from the kitchen. Overall reasonable value for money and a pleasant place to stay.

Amazing room

Absolutely amazing place to stay. Ryan and the team are so friendly and welcoming. Our room was spotless and comfortable. The breakfast included was the best and we ate their in the evenings as well......menu was fantastic and would highly recommend the sunday roast. Everything was reasonable priced, even the drinks. Would definitely go back and stay.

Warm welcome and directions to our room with the offer of help if needed. Nice room, comfortable and warm. All staff were very pleasant.

Advised hotel in advance of my wife being vegetarian. When we arrived we couldn't even have a cup of tea due to them not stocking any dairy free milk. Ryan the barman said he would leave a note for the morning staff to buy dairy free milk from local garage. Arrived at breakfast next morning and waitress said no note had been left and therefore no milk available. it was only when I said that I would walk to garage to get the milk, she reluctantly said that she would go. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Didn't book evening meal there due to lack of Veggie option (Bubble & Squeak or Roasted Cauli steak). Drove to nearby Golden Heart which was fantastic with a huge veggie choice. So glad we didnt eat at hotel, as speaking to another couple there, told us they had been waiting ages for their food. We left the bar an hour later, and they were still waiting!!! Was not busy, just 1 other couple eating.

Another great overnight stay at the Colesbourne which is better than ever. Great staff, very friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. All table service with the beer and food very good - better than last year. Breakfast very good too. Rooms are the perfect size for a couple and very comfortable. We will be back!

Entering room without knocking 5 minutes before check out (which is 10.30!!! Who does that?). No sorry. Staff is rough. Property is run down. Not worth the price

We were able to drop our bags a couple hours before the check in time, which staff then put into our room when it was ready, our room was lively and very clean, we also had dinner in the restaurant/bar, the food was amazing l, overall I have no negative feedback, I would definitely stay here again.

The windows needs an improvment, definitely. Being near the road it seems that the cars are passing through your room... Otherwise room very clean and cosy.

The room was absolute gorgeous and very clean and spacious the only down side is the transportation town the area . It’s good if you have a car but rest it’s very difficult to get public transport around the area

I stayed at the Colesbourne Inn for 2 nights. Check-in was fast and simple, although I was a bit worried beforehand as I received an email that an ID was required for check in but I forgot to bring it for this short trip. The location of the hotel is located between Colchester and Cirencester and if fairly accessible by car. The rooms were a good size and clean and the only negative is that the ceilings are a bit thin so you can hear people in the upstairs room walking around. The breakfast included was good - I had the full English breakfast.

Wonderful convenient base to explore the Cotswolds.

Possibly the best stay experience yet in the UK having travelled all across the country in the past years. A storm in Scotland meant scuttled plans to travel to Edinburgh for the new years instead me, the significant other and another family decided to take a road trip from London to the Cotswolds for a couple of days. Swift searching through a few websites pointed to The Colesbourne Inn being an “exceptional” experience and rightly so. Placed smack bang in the middle of the Cotswolds region, its easy access to any of the important spots adds points in its favour. More points for the excellent and efficient service delivered by the well trained staff. The sumptuous food negates the need to drive around in search of diners. But what really stands out is the quaint but extremely well kept interiors, be it the pub/dining area or the rooms. This setting, far away from the bustle of cities really has a calming effect on the mind and I have decided that whenever there’s a Cotswolds getaway, this is where I’ll be looking to stay - perhaps a good few days together. Bonus Tip - this place served the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had. (Tried it many times across London and other cities but this beat them all)

As a vegetarian, ordering a main meal and receiving a portion that is similar in size to a child's portion is unacceptable. It appeared that the pan fried gnocchi were reheated and as they had been sat in the sauce for so long didn't resemble pan fried gnocchi. In the morning it was revealed that there were no vegetarian sausages (non were on the menu so I suspect this was deliberate) and the staff thought that beans, a single cut in half grilled tomato and two mushrooms was a comparable option instead of a full English breakfast. I even asked them politely to make my plate full to compensate for the lack of constituents. I had returned to the pub as the last time I was there the food was nice. It was most unsatisfactory this time. It is a shame as the breakfast was properly cooked, there just appeared to be a lack of regard and I would assume respect for vegetarians. .

The Colesbourne Inn is located on a very busy main road although it quietened down around 9pm so my sleep was not disturbed by the sound of constant traffic. I received a warm welcome from the young Assistant Manager who pointed me in the direction of my room for the night – back outside and last door of the small accommodation block. Quite a pleasant room although the quality of housekeeping could be better (a constant complaint of mine). On a positive note, the room had a folding rack for my case. I get so annoyed with hotels where there is no facility to open your case except on the bed or desk. The bathroom had a bath with a shower which worked well unlike the tv that could only receive BBC1 & 2. My evening meal was ok: typical mid-range pub fayre. Nothing freshly prepared and little in the way of healthy options. Breakfast was disappointing compared with most hotels I normally stay in. To answer to big question of ‘would I stay at the Colesbourne Inn again?’ I think it would be unlikely.

Its restaurant serves great food and local beer. The fish and chips is the best one I have ever had. My friend enjoyed vegan meals. They also serve a variety of breakfast including fresh fruit and drinks. The room is prettily decorated and bathroom is clean and wide with a fancy bath tab.

Stayed here with friends many times, always a warm welcome and a great place to spend an evening/overnight. Beer is good, real fire is great, comfortable well appointed rooms, good food and wine and staff are always accommodating. Splendid breakfast as well! Will return again soon!

The room was just what we needed. A lovely comfy bed, nice bathroom and quiet. The staff in the inn were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were absolute stars and really made our stay even more brilliant. The cooked breakfast was very nice and we ate in the inn one night as well with great service and delicious food. Will happily stay here again if visiting the area.

Great experience at the Colesbourne Inn. Liz and crew were friendly and did their best to accommodate our requests and one of our dietary requirements. The breakfast was great and the dinners were top notch. A great stay at an affordable price.
