Hyatt Place Birmingham/Hoover

this is a property that is not up the normal standards of a Hyatt place as far as the condition of the hotel. Lot's of old & broken things in the 2 rooms that we used...the safely latch & door latches didn't work on either door, the sinks had no drain covers, the walls were dirty & scratched, the furniture & bedding needs updating, it was all clean but not in good condition. The employees were wonderful & helpful. The pool needs a major rehab....broken gates & nasty old chairs. The entire hotel looks tired & just old! The location is the only thing it has going for it. I wouldn't stay there again.

This hotel was conveniently located and the room was fairly clean and very quiet. Check in was amazing and the breakfast was very good. The location was safe and there was plenty of oversized parking. I would have scored this property higher, but it was not super clean and the bar and sundries areas were out of many things. This property also needs a fresh coat of paint and some deep carpet and upholstery cleaning.

Outdated - carpet was stained, room not properly cleaned. Tv wouldn’t turn on. Tiny pool and there were 15 plus kids in it at all times. It was loud inside the room and they allow animals and dogs barked all night.

Air conditioning not cooling, no housekeeping services one of the two days, dirty bathroom, stained couch, didn’t replace toilet paper, no food available as advertised by the website, pool closed,

The staff was friendly and helpful. On Expedia the property is noted to have a restaurant which is why I chose to stay here. It no longer has a restaurant . Additionally the air in the gym was not working any of the 4 days I was there. It was hot and stuffy and made working out challenging. Furthermore the peloton bike in the gym was “offline” the entire period as well. Disappointing!!

Staff were super nice and helpful. However, both elevators were broke on check out, which was not great carrying luggage down multiple floors.

breakfast was terrible no protein at all. The bathrooms wouldn’t flush the pool was murky and little size gym. It was not nearly as nice as other Hyatt place hotels we have stayed.

The staff was very nice & helpful. There are many deferred maintenance items. Outside it looks quite nice. Inside it needs a l9t of minor repairs. Breakfast inconsistent. No clean rowels or water in fitness center. First room i got was missing minifrig, just a gaping hole w damaged cabinet.

The first room i was given had a big burn mark in the carpet and the carpets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while or even vacuumed before I was given the room. There were bobby pins and what looked like feathers on the floor. There was huge wasp in the room, which the wonderful young lady at the front desk took care of, but then I was left with lingering odor of bug spray in the room. They said they couldn't switch my room that night because they were fully booked. They also said I couldn't get a refund for my second night ( i had paid in advance for two nights) because I had not given them 24 hours notice. I was able to change rooms the next morning. The second room was much better with the exception that I couldn't use the microwave or the coffee maker in the room because there was no plug where they were located! The front desk staff was very friendly and apologized for these inconveniences, however I will not be staying there again. The elevator floor had cracks in it and the back door from the back parking lot did not lock like it is supposed to causing a serious safety concern. This hotel was one I stayed in 4 years ago and it has seriously gone down hill but is more expensive than before.

One of the things being the ice machines- none of them worked. When we told the front desk, the worker just shrugged. The major items in the room were clean-bed linens, bathtub, sink, but there were stains on the couch, some on the walls, inside the toilet. I would definitely never stay here again.

It is so outdated, the carpet is filthy along with the rooms and bedding. It smelled bad of mold and the rooms are not cleaned.

The room had a moldy smell, and we woke up feeling stuffy. It also wasn’t very clean; the floors, drapes, and windows were noticeably dirty, and overall the room just needs a deep cleaning. When we returned the next day, the room still hadn’t been serviced. Lastly, the breakfast was extremely limited, almost as if a food order had been missed. The only items available were a pot of grits, donut holes, coffee, bananas, and apples. I’m not sure what happened, but the quality here has really gone downhill.

It’s very clear that the hotel doesn’t read these reviews, so definitely save your money and stay somewhere else. The hotel wasn’t just dated—it was nasty. Dead roach in the hallway, dirt and hair all over the floors, shower, toilet. The sheets were stained and extremely worn. Pretty sure Hyatt has the ability to splurge on clean linens. Like seriously, this location needs to close. And to top everything off, we left with either flea or bedbug bites. Absolutely disgusting.

The room was not very clean. There were stains on the carpet, the toilet paper rolls were almost empty & we found a pair of dirty socks in the bedding. When we asked to change rooms because of the cleanliness, we were told it was completely booked & there were no other available rooms. This was not what I expected from a Hyatt hotel

Absolutely would not recommend. There was alot close to the hotel but right next door there was a homeless person sleeping with a whole setup. The staff here is lovely but the first room we were put in had a ton of visible mold in the room. You could smell it as soon as you opened the door then after walking around you could clearly see it. They moved us to a new room on another floor which did not have mold and was fine but has not had a deep clean in awhile either. All the hallways smelled terribly of febreeze. Not a clean smell, more overpowering like they were trying to cover something up. Then the breakfast was a joke. The worst spread I have seen in any hotel. The biscuits were burnt, no protein except a small portion of odd looking eggs, poor fruit and nothing to put on the bagels. Stay away from this location.

Killed 3 roaches in bathroom, 2 when I checked in, 1 in the morning, showed pics to desk clerk at checkout, also showed them the body hair piled in the corners of the shower, which 1 roach was hanging out at.

The shower was horrible .. dirt and broken tile in corners.. couch had stains on it!! And same for bed cover.. enough tht I had to sit on a chair…

Good location but room was in horrible condition. Sheets on bed were in poor shape, stains in carpet, pic falling off wall, shower curtain not even installed right. Then in back of property, it looked like a dump. Abandoned shopping carts, pallets laying around. There was even an tire left in one of the parking spaces. POOR PROPERTY

I had to switch rooms my first day due to an awful stench. Second room had roaches, holes in the sheet and one set of towels for two occupants. The walls were stained, the carpet was stained throughout the room. The phone was unplugged from the wall. The worst hotel stay, I have ever experienced in my life. The staff laughed when I showed a picture of the holes in the sheet. Returned later in the evening and the sheets were still on the bed. Unbelievable.

Sink leaked onto the floor so had to use the towels in the room to keep the water from standing. Ac/heat worked intermittently. Otherwise ok.

Staff were friendly. Building/room felt like it was in rough condition. Broken items in the rooms- like the bathroom sink faucet- usable but blasted the water out. AC was very loud, and the hotel is located next to a very loud, busy street and is easily heard in the room.

I was in room 212, which was next to the elevator mechanical room. This room was very noisy from the elevator.

Bed was not very comfortable. The main problem was the AC. The thermostat did not work properly, had to turn down all the way to get it to work. Then when the AC compressor came on, it sounded like a truck or heavy equipment starting up and idling outside.

This place was great. Every worker from top to bottom was very attentive and helpful. Room was nice, king bed with a couch. Different lay out that was nice. My only complaint was the furnace or boiler room was extremely loud. The door was propped open at all times to allow heat out, I'm assuming. Other than that we enjoyed our stay, would recommend and return ourselves.

Hotel is worn. Worn carpet. Broken tile. Slow elevators. Room HVAC unit made a lot of noise. Your listing had it overrated. It is more like a 6/10 hotel.

The bed was uncomfortable. The fitted sheet was nubby so much so I slept in leggings because it aggravated my skin. The pillows were very flimsy. I took all four pillows on the bed to get the plushness of one. The bathroom was so small that you had to stand. Grind the toilet to close the door. I regret staying here and would not recommend it.

Check in was quick and easy. Carpet in the room looked like it had burns, the walls had dirt and debris on them. The tv worked but had lines across the entire screen which made it impossible to watch. The refrigerator looked like it had mouse droppings in it or had not been cleaned from several guests before. They also had one elevator that was out of service so wait times were long and it was hot in the. building. The thermostat in our room needed batteries so it was also hot. The area around was nice and the restaurant options were plentiful. With some updates and a good cleaning it would be a nicer place to stay.

We arrived late at night and we're fairly quickly given our two rooms. When we got up to them, they had not been cleaned--the beds were unmade and bathrooms a mess. Back down to the lobby and the clerk did not seem to be able to find us rooms that had been serviced--she literally was having to go to them to check. After waiting a long time, we were given rooms that seemed like they had been used for storage or something. It was now 1 am! The desk agent was pleasant and this wasn't her fault, but it was not a great travel experience.

My reservation was “lost” after booking two months in advance and still have not received my money back.

The ease of check-in to the comfort of the room was exceptional. They were busy but it never looked or felt like they were busy. They older lady at the front desk moved with grace.

Room service was provided only “every three days” according to the front desk. We had to obtain towels, tissues and toilet paper from the front desk. Side exit door on ground floor did not close completely on its own creating a security risk.

My family and I had a negative experience at this hotel. We knew that check-in was set for 3:00 PM, so we decided to grab a bite to eat beforehand. Upon our arrival at the hotel around 4:00 PM, our room was still not ready. We had to wait approximately 30 minutes before we could access our room, and to make matters worse, we were charged twice for our stay. The staff member who handled our check-in was somewhat rude and unable to provide a clear explanation for the delay. Because of this experience, I will not be booking or recommending this hotel to others.

First the hotel called meat 12:00 pm before check in and said there was a water leak they moved my reservation to home 2 hotel across the street . I get the home 2 later that evening to check in they didn’t have a reservation! I called back the original hotel the kept me on hold for 10 minutes. So I drove the hotel they said we have a room after all . The door was broken and the water in the shower trickled it was almost non existent. The ac was loud and it smelled musty . We had a horrible experience and will not be using them again. Upon check out I told the staff they said thank you I will let someone know and that I needed to let you know .

My recent stay at Hyatt Place in Birmingham, Alabama, was not only disappointing it was disheartening. From the moment I checked in, I felt unheard and overlooked. After checking into my room, I immidiately raised concerns about the air conditioning unit in my room, which roared as loudly as a lawnmower making restful sleep impossible for a light sleeper like myself. Though I voiced this concern multiple times, no real effort was made to resolve it. The toilet was leaking, the room appeared unkempt, and the bedding was visibly dingy and creased. Over five nights, the cleaning staff never once serviced the room; on the final day, they simply dropped towels at the door without stepping inside. Despite repeated pleas, management remained distant and dismissive. At one point, they claimed to have arranged a reservation for me at another hotel, encouraging me to move. But when I arrived, that hotel had no record of any booking—leaving me embarrassed and stranded. Not once did anyone from Hyatt offer a written note, a clear resolution, or even a basic gesture of care. What was supposed to be a peaceful and comfortable stay turned into a stressful sleep diprived and lonely ordeal. As a guest, I expected hospitality; what I received was indifference. I hope no one else has to go through what I did. I have video of the loud noise from the AC that I shared with the hotel staff that eventhough care less.

I’m waiting for a refund for this stay because they asked us to move because they were overbooked. I’m disappointed because refund has not been processed yet from Hotels.com. Bad service all around. Please remedy this hotels.comm

Check-in was simple and the staff was friendly. There was easy access to shopping as well as a number of dining options.

Our room had a bad odor. I can’t even describe it. The breakfast “buffet” as they described it, was disappointing. On the positive side, the front desk staff were very friendly, and we really liked Kam the bartender!

The photos are a bit deceiving. I stayed here a few years ago on the way to the beach and it’s gone quite downhill. The carpet in the room was absolutely gross. Stains everywhere. Same for the little couch in there. Overall the room didn’t feel like it had really been cleaned… kind of seemed like all that was done between guests was change bedding. The breakfast left so much to be desired and coffee tasted like dirty water. The lobby was well kept but that’s about it. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Breakfast was a joke. The first morning they were out of eggs and milk. There were no muffins or pastries. It was like they were surprised that people were wanting breakfast. We stayed at this location for a family funeral and we needed a breakfast as there wasn't time to eat out. My family had 5 rooms rented for 3 days each. I expected much higher quality.

Room was decent, there are some damage that hasn't been fixed like the bathtub drain plug was missing, but otherwise fairly good. The most disappointing aspect of this hotel was that I'm accustomed to a Hyatt place having an excellent breakfast. That is in fact why I chose to stay at the Hyatt place. Usually they have bacon or sausage or some kind of breakfast sandwich involving spinach. This breakfast was actually worse than what you'd find at a typical hotel six. At least at a hotel 6 you have a waffle maker. This was lame.

No washcloths, bar soap, or hand towels when we checked in the room. As for the breakfast, we got down there at 8:00AM (open until 9:00AM). Ran out of sausage and bagels. All they had left was eggs and grits. Also - no lids for coffee cups Last time I’m ever booking a Hyatt property again!!
