Stoke Place- Part of the Cairn Collection

This was an interesting hotel as on the outside you think your going to a luxury manor type place but the inside is another story. Very tired and run down in many places shabby chic but not intentional. The whole hotel looks in need of a real makeover as the lack of investment really shows when you look closely. The staff were helpful and the gardens / setting beautiful but if you want real luxury it’s not the place to find it.

Upgraded to a cottage but air conditioning didnt work neither did the fridge. Room needed decorating as it very worn. Bathroom very good but roof of shower needs attention. Basically rented a cottage for 2 nights. Staff very friendly and attentive. Gardens beautiful. Would stay again but inside the hotel.

Utterly gorgeous. We got the simpler room and it was still lovely. Comfortable bed! Remember to check in your car registration on their ipad. Fabulous shower. Good for dogs the grounds are beautiful. The driveway is a stunner.

Property grounds and main areas are amazing, unfortunately we were in room 50 ,on the side of the wall. Room was in need of painting and cleaning,and a general spruce up. The bar and dining room were fantastic, and the staff are a credit to the hotel. Breakfast and dinner were excellent

Stayed in a garden room which is very tired. The roof in the walkway is rotten with holes in and lashed together to keep it up. The outside door was battered and peeling paint. Carpet in the lobby and stairs worn and dirty. In the room the windows are broken, blinds broken and half the bulbs in the bathroom not working. Such a shame because it could be a really good. You get the distinct impression that no one from the hotel really looks at the rooms and the conditions- or indeed care. As an aside had no hot water in the morning. No warning or apology from the hotel and again didn’t really seem to care. In desperate need of some money spent and just some tlc. The hotel management need to just open their eyes and see it through the eyes of paying guests

This hotel has a stunning backyard with a lake civered in water lilies and it has swans. The house is beautiful but old( built in 1690) thus there is no lift and the stairs are not easy to manage. Suprisingly the bathroom is very midern and everything works well. There are many chairs and benches to enjoy the view and rest. The restaurant is excellent, I had lamb and it was delicious. Definitely I will go again but it is not a fit for people will impaired mobility, with big luggage or small children.

Got a parking ticket even though I registered at reception Is a solid 3 star

I parked inside the property and they gave me a ticket. I’m going trough all this emails with Travelocity to get my refund from €35 that I was wrongly charged. Very disappointing. My air conditioner wasn’t working and I have to swap room twice. They touch my stuff without my permission and left some stuff in the other room and I have to be searching for my stuff. They gave me a complementary breakfast but the fact that they gave me a ticket took away the breakfast. I’m very disappointed with this hotel.

There was bugs in the bed was made to change my own sheets to which I found more bugs so had to leave and find other accommodation. As they had no other rooms Staff apologised but no compensation was given apart from a refund as I had to travel into to London to stay with family which cost me extra money in fuel as I was due to work in Windsor

We only stayed in this hotel for 2 hours before checking out and staying in another hotel nearby. The rooms were filthy with cobwebs and were in serious need to maintenance. The windows were rotting and covered in moss, there were dirty cup stains that had not been cleaned up. We were unable to unpack as no drawers, only 3 coathangers in the wardrobe, but there was a massive chunk taken out of the wall and dust all over the wardrobe so would not out our clothes in there. Carpets were filthy so could not take our shoes off in the room. Staircases to get to our rooms were unsafe and too narrow, especially where trying to navigate with suitcases - very unsafe and could not hold onto bannister as looked like it had not been cleaned for years! The room was so small we could almost touch either side with our arms out and the bed was up against the wall, so if I needed to get up during the night, I would have had to climb over my husband! This was supposed to be a 5th wedding anniversary treat, but left us feeling very disappointed. We booked into a Holiday Inn nearby and had a lovely, clean 3 nights that we should have had here. They are now refusing to refund us our money for the 3 nights so have escalated the complaint with Hotels.com to get us a full refund as this hotel is not a 4 star, I would give it 2 at the most. PS the air conditioning unit was a fan that was left in the wardrobe!!!

Limescale on kettle and taps, poo in the loo, dirty carpets .. shame as beautiful building. That said bedding was clean..

Rooms very dated and in serious need of refurbishment. The windows are old and rotten which made the room very cold. There are wooden floors too which make the room colder and the floor boards are extremely noisy. A heater was provided so I am guessing that the hotel knows about this issue. The ceilings are high and the lights were covered in cobwebs and had obviously not been cleaned for some time. Old wooden bed frame that looked like it has seen better days. Tiles in bathroom were chipped. This is not a 4 star hotel!

I was advised at check in that I was staying for 2 nights when I had only booked one. I had to provide a copy of my email confirmation that I had only booked one night. It then became apparent that the receptionist was trying to book me in under someone else's reservation (I had given her my full name when I checked in). The room I was allocated, upon first inspection was nice. However after a couple of minutes I noticed it was full of flies (some dead / some alive). They were on the lampshade, bedding, carpet, walls etc. I asked to change rooms which they did after initially advising me that they were full. I then moved to a suite (Queen Anne) which was filthy. There were stains on the wall both in the room and the bathroom, hairs in the sinks and bath, cobwebs in the shower and dust on the unit tops. There is wooden flooring in the room and when you are in the bathroom you can see under the bed which was covered in lumps of dust and decomposing rose petals. This had not been cleaned in a very long time. The only positive is that the grounds are beautiful, the breakfast was delicious and the lady that was working in the restaurant at breakfast was very lovely and polite. This hotel is in need of some upgrading as everything is looking tired. I will not be returning.

Room was ok, a little dated though. Shower had not been cleaned properly with hair product residue in the tile grout. The worse part was the shower drainage which was blocked. When I showered it immediately flooded the floor and could have spilled into the bedroom area if I had not stopped showering. I resorted to using a towel to act as a barrier to stop the flooding. Clearly this had not been checked prior to releasing the room. Overall the room is adequate but housekeeping is sadly lacking.

The room was not clean, on arrival we found hair on the bathroom floor in-between the sink and the toilet. There was dust on the floor which was making the floor so slippery which was like an ice rink. But worse than that more dust under the bed and behind the door. This has obviously been mounting up for time by the looks of this by the thickness of the dust behind the door. The shower temperature controller was broken so you couldn't even safely regulate the shower temperature. So you either had freezing cold temperatures or boiling hot water. So those who have medical conditions that are not able to detect the boiling hot water could have serious injury themselves. The room on the second night caused a major allergy attack which we had to open the window as the room had not been cleaned, the hair in the bathroom was still on the floor and the dust in the room was increasing. They had left breakfast from the morning still in the room along with the previous meal. The only thing that had been cleaned was the bin, a couple of towels and the bed made up (not changed).This was a very disappointing mini break away, considering this was a junior suit with higher ratings and expected higher expectations because of this. The food and drinks :- We had informed them regarding the dietary restrictions however these were not met on several occasions but they say they over looked however they did not state on the items when delivery which one had what item.

Placed on the top floor with no elevators (room 24), no shower only a bath with attachments. Could hear every word of conversations in the room next door, and I either had the BFG next door to me or a herd of elephants as every time they walked about their room my floor shook. Throughout the night you coild hear the pipes and boiler going as was in a closet in my room. Wallpaper all ripped, damp on the plaster walls.....I could go on....

The room was so dirty. Stained sheets and the bathroom tap was leaking. Had dirty footprints on the bathroom floor as well

Collapsed ceiling on corridor to my room. Bed accessible from one side only. Dirty marks on wall. Debris (bags of linen and dirty pots/glasses, empty bottles) left in corridor outside my door for two days and nights. Courtesy drinks of bottled water were removed and not replenished. Electric heater in room was a sign of how cold the place was, I certainly needed to use it. Restaurant food was expensive but nice. Won’t be back.

Can't fault the service at all, the staff were all excellent, especially the breakfast team. If I were to stay here again I would probably avoid the gatehouse (room 28). Although it's a nice room it's very near the road and traffic starts at 5am sharp, you can hear everything.

I would not recommend staying here for any occasion, took a gamble on this hotel for a work trip as i thought it would be better than the usual premier inn, how wrong. Very unhelpful staff prior to arrival, Website advertises they have a sister hotel with pool and gym facilities but turns out these hotels are nothing to do with each other and Stoke Place wouldn't provide me with any details on availability, booking or prices. The rooms are just barley big enough for a standard double bed and are very warm, windows don't stay open. Bathroom was old and tatty, shower was dirty and none existent water pressure. Quilt had a large tare in it and table was dirty and damaged. Checked in with a group and you are not given the standard room check in, i was walked to my room with a group and what seemed to be allocated a random room, not great for health and safety or fire procedures. Only stayed the night after being woken up by the gaps in the blinds, as windows have no curtains and the loud geese. Breakfast was a positive though, even if a little expensive.

Property could do with a refit but perfectly clean, stayed in a garden room which is out of the way but there is a lot of road noise.

I had an amazing stay at Stoke Place Hotel in one of their Junior Suites, and it exceeded all expectations. The suite was beautifully appointed and offered a stunning view of the lake — the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic, with a great selection and high-quality ingredients. The service was warm and attentive throughout. However, cleanliness could be improved — there was noticeable dust in the bathroom, fingerprint marks on the chrome light switches, and grime along the shower rail, which took away slightly from the overall experience. Additionally, there were no USB ports or sockets by the bedside to conveniently charge devices, which was a bit inconvenient in a modern suite. Despite these minor issues I would still highly recommend Stoke Place for anyone looking for a peaceful and luxurious escape.

There was nobody at reception on check in so had to wait a while. Once served we were not given the wifi code or important information such as were the facilities were, if the restaurant/bar was open, or about the complimentary drink option if we did not want the room serviced each day. Having walked the long distance from the car park in terrible conditions we now had a long walk to our room which was externally from the main hotel and this was not clear at time of booking. The room itself had issues such as the curtains did not completely cover the windows so a chair had to be placed against it to keep out the light and for privacy; the bed and pillows was not very comfortable; the room service was not great as the bed was not made nicely and the bathroom bin was not emptied.

Rooms advertised are nothing like what you get. Booked a deluxe room for post wedding stay and all I got was a box with a bed. No AC, so summer stay was a bad idea. Asked to move to another room but fully booked over weekend. Would not use again.

The hotel is very shabby and in need of updating. The water pressure in our room was so bad… I couldn’t wash my hair. It was a relatively pleasant stay but I won’t be back.

Our stay was disappointing due to the size and condition of the room we were allocated. It was situated away from the main hotel in a block that can only be described as something from the 60s. If you book a room with a number from 40 to 50 then ask for another room. This block of rooms should never be used for any guest, they are cold, mouldy, terrible paintwork and painted old wood floors. As good as the shower is you cannot use any of the mirrors as everything feels damp due to the condensation. The staff on the other hand are polite helpful and friendly. The breakfast was amazing, good choices and waitress service was top class, no waiting, food served as ordered, tea and coffee topped up regularly.

Mixed thoughtz on our weekend trip. We arrived at 3pm after a long trip. Our room was not ready, and they told us our room would not be ready for 1hour, not good enough. Our room was fine. The safe waa locked, so we asked fir housekeeping, they had gone home, but could come the next day! They never even came the next day,so we walked aroind woth our valuables!! Our dinner was cinfias booked for Saturday 9th August at 8pm in the restaurant. We just happened in the off chance to mention this to a barman who told us the restaurant was closed, as they had a wedding on...not really my problem. They offered us the bar, so i cancelled the booking and we had to walk to a restaurant! We probably wouldn't stay again, as the room we had was tired for the amount we were charged. Breakfast however was great.

System was down when i checked out, I was told I would receive an email with my invoice. It didn't arrive and I called and asked for it again and it still didn't arrive - not happy with such a basic requirement not being met.

We stayed for two nights and seriously considered trying to extend for another night but we had other commitments. Great, dog friendly hotel with super grounds and amazing staff. A really wonderful breakfast - high quality ingredients and lots of choice. Couldn't fault it.

I selected this hotel as their web site claims that all 39 rooms have a/c. Turns out they don’t! Standard rooms do not have it. Despite speaking to reception, they would not change my room. Oddly enough I could book a premium room for the same night so it wasn’t because they were full. Dinner was a complete farce. I asked in the dining room if it was ok to eat outside on the patio as it was so hot and was told that would be fine. After 15 mins I was still sitting there with no one interested in taking my order. I eventually found the bar and got myself a coke and ordered some food and made it clear I would be sitting outside in the bar area. It took an hour - yea an hour for burger and chips to arrive! The food looked less than adequate. The burgers had carbon on them from the grill not being cleaned down, hardly any salad on the bun, and the fries looked like oven chips. Not what I expected for £19. It took a further 15 mins for salt, pepper, sauce, napkin and cutlery. Too late - I had eaten most of my food by then.

Beautiful building and grounds with friendly and helpful staff, which made for a pleasant stay.

We booked two rooms as a family but were given two separate rooms in different buildings 4 minutes walk apart. Check in time at 3 pm is rather late although we came for a group event starting at 10 am. The lighting in the room was dim. The gravel pathway between the buildings is not lit and there were pot holes filled with rain water on the pathway.

There were no lights to our room (cottages)outside and if was muddy - I fell and my shoes got covered in mud. I reported it but was told oh yes we have let maintenance know about that and that was all. The front reception had a bad smell. The room furniture was dated. The restaurant and lounges were very nice and the grounds lovely

Stayed here for one night as it was close to Windsor/Legoland. Excellent service and beautiful location. Loved the lake and garden area.

The staff was wonderful, very helpful. Location was great being 15 minutes from Heathrow.but a very tranquil setting.

It is a sad neglected hotel. Extremely poor condition and age has nothing to do with it. I was refunded partially for our stay which was expected. I pity this establishment and the good employees in the kitchen dining area who literally keep this place open. The food is very good and the staff serving it were beyond expectation. I wish each one of them the very best in their futures.

Beautiful building, outfitted with fairly standard hotel rooms. The on-site restaurant seemed very disorganized, but the food was decent enough once we got it.

Pretty good overall. Room good with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was a bit cold though. I wasn't happy with the pricing policy in the restaurant/bar. Small Pinot Noir £6.00 Medium £6.50 Large £12??? All is achieved by cynical pricing policy. Only small and medium listed on menu. Using the fact that medium was only 50pence more than a small I fell into the trap of ordering a large assuming it is around £8 but no, the staff have to charge you for two small ones. Needless to say i wont be eating there again.

Lovely hotel, great staff, nice rooms. Only issue is no room service or restaurant after 9pm during the week. Amazing views of the lake though.

Nice enough. The public rooms are nicely decotarted but the bedrooms need some work. The garden room I was in was tired. For example in the bathroom (which was freezing cold) the plastic film on the windows for privacy was half peeled off. The room needed double glazing and some better heating. Also housekeeping missed things like shower gel. On the plus side the staff were lovely and restaurant food very good
