Mercure Newbury West Grange Hotel

Ok hotel for close to aldermaston with EV chargers, easy parking , down side was room very hot and waited a hour for dinner. On the Room was uncomfortable as no aircon and was very hot even with a fan and windows open.

Lovely clean well appointed room ,had everything we needed, even a fridge ..powerful shower and comfortable bed . Good range of items for breakfast, hot or cold . Ample parking and very friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again if in the area .

Room noises due to faulty slamming fire doors from Dining Room. Evening meal very nice and reasonable prices. Breakfast was poor quality as sausages overcooked and barely warm and bacon also very overcooked. Made to sit in Lounge area to eat breakfast when dining area was empty. No Internet tv service at all. Sorry but not what I would expect from the Mercure brand.

Good stay. Only disappointing thing was they do not take cash in the bar.

A disturbed nights sleep as there was a function on at the hotel and guests at this function were stood outside my ground floor room partying and smoking until after 1am even though the hotel assured me my room was away from the function area. In the morning i had to sit on a low chair and table to eat my breakfast even the the dining room was set up and empty as it was reserved for the afore mentioned party none of whom had turned by the time i was finished and left. The experience was so bad I left that morning even though I had booked a second night there and lost my money on that one. The staff i dealt with didnt appear to care or offer any way to mitigate the poor service ie move room or have a room service breakfast. I have stayed here multiple times in the past and the service has steadily deteriorated over that time. Needless to stay this will be my last stay there.

Plenty parking for large vans,staff friendly,room was clean n breakfast was nice.

Good parking on site, good buffet breakfast. Bed very comfortable.

We stayed here for a family event it was just perfect for location large car park clean and comfortable with air conditioning I thought the cost for breakfast was a little high though but other than that a great stay

Pros: Laura on reception was helpful and friendly. Excellent parking and EV charging. The front garden is very pretty. A bus stops just up the road that goes into Newbury if you want to leave the car behind. Cons: Freeview TV not working - either no signal or screen pixelated. No BBC channels even it it had worked. Expected to eat dinner off a coffee table in the bar after booking a table in the restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was set up for a wedding the next day so was not being used. We cancelled the booking and had a really nice meal at the Berkshire Arms just down the road. The flush on the toilet worked but was very stiff. It was not clear which way to turn on the tap on the wash basin and so I kept dowsing myself and the entire room with water! The room was very hot. The air con seemed to work on one setting only, so was too strong. Turning it down had no effect so we turned it off. We have stayed here before but now there seems to be fewer staff (poor waitress in duty at breakfast on Sunday was rushed off her feet and there were dirty dishes left on tables, empty fruit option bowls, long waits for hot food to be refilled etc) and, generally, an air of the place just getting by. We came to attend the Battle Proms at Highclere Castle as this hotel is not far away and so we were out most of the stay but we will look for another hotel next year.

Not stayed here for a few years and always used to be good. Hotel in the main was the same and a reasonable standard however, whilst the bed was freshly made, the toilet had not been cleaned at all. There were urine splashes around the rim, pubic hairs all over the rim and poo splatters on the seat and pan. There was a single pubic hair in the sink too. There was also a part biscuit wrapper on the seat that hadn’t been removed. I complained and reception were apologetic and said they would clean it that evening while I was out. I returned at 10:15 to find the toilet was exactly the same but at least the pubic hair from the sink had gone! I insisted on a different room but by now I was so wound up I didn’t sleep well. Breakfast in the morning was okay but the bacon had been under the heat lamp so long it was tougher than my shoe. General management were very apologetic but for £127 per night I would’ve expected a partial refund as a minimum. Not sure I would stay again when in the area, or use for colleagues when I book their accommodation, not a patch on what it used to be unfortunately.

Arrived and had to wait several minutes for Reception, the hotel looked quiet. I went to my room and parts of it had not been cleaned. One of the bed side units had water spilt on it and they had marks from drinks on other parts of the room. The sink had not been cleaned properly and the towel had a hole in it. Disappointed considering this was a superior room, it did not feel like it and that somebody had previously been in the room. When I went to reception to complain there was nobody there due to the bar area being very busy. The Tv and remote control did not work correctly and often just switched off. I have stayed here several times and this was the worst experience so far.

very old mattress, dirty bedding, dirty towels, mouldy shower area, no water pressure for shower to work above your knees, uncomfortable bed , very unpleasent stay, had originally booked to stay for the week but checked out after 1st night, disappointed an understatment

Everything was as i needed for an overnight stay. Friendly staff, very clean and peaceful. I didn't eat there but would certainly do so should i stay there again.

We were very impressed with everything at this hotel . From the staff the the rooms everything was spotless. Well maintained . Good food . And a great night's sleep . What more could you want . Unlike most hotels this shower was actually powerful and spotless . We will be back .

Our room was on the ground floor which we asked for. It was freshly decorated and very clean. The staff were very polite and efficient.

Staff on reception very helpful. Room was ok-ish The pipe for shower had black mould on the bend, could be cleaned a lot better. One of my light switch was broken. Bed was clean! Air con didn’t work Not a good idea to put GB News on main TV, when I pointed that out to a member of staff, they didn’t realise someone in hotel changed the usual channel (non bbc). This was changed back.

Nice lobby and grounds outside. Car park is decent size. No ramp for disabled people - have to climb several steps with suitcases, not suitable for wheelchair users. Rooms are a decent size, bathroom decent size. Beds not very comfy, one of our twin beds sloped sideways so you kept falling out of it. Room for extremely hot and no air conditioning which we didn’t think would be an issue in April. Over all decent but wouldn’t stay again

The room would be nice. Unfortunately they were having an event with very loud music the whole evening till midnight. That prevented me from having a relaxing stay there. Therefore I can’t recommend this place.

Somewhat puzzled why my superior room is £50 more the day after. i have no objection paying over £115 for a room but it needs to be in good repair. parts of the room where broken, paint peeling by the door and the toilet flush very intermittent, the fan didn't work either so surprised the fire alarm didn't go off.

Beds very comfy and perfectly crisp cotton sheets. Plenty of extra touches, tea, coffee and herbal teas as well as decafe options. Shower wash and body lotion. I would recommend this hotel.

Room 213 has the kitchen extrator fan outside of the window. Very loud until 1130 then started again at 0530. No warning of this when checked in, staff not to worried when mentioned in the morning.

Very comfortable lovely room great bathroom walk in shower. Staff very friendly and helpful

1st night the downstairs room was very hot. Even though there was a fan, this would only circulate the warm air. 2nd night different room, the room's air con broke down! Dinner is ok, particularly if you like burgers, starters were much better. Drinks very expensive. Rooms were clean, service quite good however.

Staff and management went the extra mile to assist us and make us feel welcome! Special mention of thanks to Rupa our hostess that gave us excellent service, nothing was too much trouble for her.. definitely an asset to the team Mercure will definitely be seeing us in the near future. Highly recommend this Hotel to everyone

Fantastic stay. Went above and beyond for my birthday , the staff are super friendly and attentativ The only negative will have to be breakfast, on both days the food was cold, this was said also by a few other guests. If the issue with food temperature is sorted the hotel would be 10/10

This hotel and the staff are amazing. From the minute we enquired about booking to our arrival we have received 100% customer service.Nothing is too much trouble to the staff.So helpful and friendly.

Firstly the room was excellent. Comfortable bed, good bathroom and shower. Lots of extras in the room eg fan for hot weather, heater for cold, fridge, safe. Staff were either brilliant or terrible, with nothing in between. Either charming with nothing too much trouble, or totally disinterested with no acknowledgement we were even there. Breakfast was awful. Don't understand why a hotel would serve a cooked breakfast which was cold, not once but 3 days on the run. Cld food, cold plates, and when we complanied it was suggested they might warm it up, presumably in the microwave. We would be very unlikely to stay there again.

When I arrived to check in around 6pm there was nobody on Reception & I had to wait over 10 minutes before anyone appeared. I even tried calling the Landline phone twice, nobody answered! Also, it appeared that my booking had not been put onto the Hotel system for some unknown reason. The room had no USB charge points which is quite old hat these days!

Arrived at 5.30pm after a long day of travelling and room was still not ready despite check in being 2pm - was told to wait at the bar (no complimentary drink offered) and I would be told when my room was available. Didn’t take long to gain access but when I did room was made into a twin configuration despite requesting a double, at this point I was too tired to request a change. Hair found on pillow which isn’t great, bathroom outdated and tiles/grout need redoing. Breakfast was ok but friendly service lacking. Overall not great

I have stayed here several times but his was certainly the best. Great check in from Keith and lovely room. Unfortunately due to work commitments i did not eat in the restaurant or frequent the bar, however its always a great experience. Breakfast was good and my check out at 4.00am was also spot on. thanks Mercure Newbury Team.

Breakfast was a shambles. We had to clear and set our own table and member of staff was disinterested. Also food was congealed. Stayed here many times but hotel has deteriorated.

Nice view and quite area. Very nice

Got great deal and blew Premier Inn and Travelodge out of the water both price wise and facilities. Lovely little oasis but need a car to get to local amenities

Liked the fact the welcome by reception was pleasant and check in was easy. Hotel location is great and easy to find with free parking in the hotel car park. Free WiFi is a bonus. Only negative I could find was the poorly performing coffee machine in the bar area next to the restaurant. The cappuccino setting only gave half a cup. It would be nice to have the option of a cup of coffee or a mug of coffee.

Fantastic hotel, service, staff & room. Breakfast was excellent as well. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you’re attending a wedding at Wasing Park as it’s close by

Nice hotel, not really in Newbury Handy for the races

Very convenient for meeting up with my daughter the next day at 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park only 10 mins away. The Food was very tasty and the hotel was in quiet and peaceful surroundings. We will definitely stay there again.

Easy check in and check out. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was really good and breakfast the following morning was equally good. We had a superior room which, although small, was clean and had everything we needed. The only minor issues we had was working out how to turn on the bedside lamps and bizarrely how to turn on the tap in the bathroom! Overall I would recommend the hotel and would also stay again if in the area.
