A iconic hotel within Colombo in a good location. The building and lobby are impressive. Staff were friendly and always smiling and welcoming around all areas of the hotel. Really nice having views over the sea. Lovely building but feels like it needs a bit of updating and pool area was disappointing with many loose or missing decking boards which was dangerous and totally unacceptable as an accident is waiting to happen. Breakfast was a little underwhelming.

Other hotels might try to emulate the Galle Face with their modern colonial architecture but they do not have the same authenticity. With over 100 years experience in hospitality this hotel provides excellent service and superior accommodation. From the welcome given by the concierge service in their liveried cream jackets to the professional lifeguards at the 30m seawater pool, you are at once treated to an unforgettable stay here. Big thank you to Sujith for sorting out our upgrade and to Adja and his team for all their work at the pool. Already looking forward to our next stay here.

The hotel is lovely and very traditional. The staff are very attentive and always welcoming. The pool area however requires upgrading as the flooring is broken in several places and is a safety hazard.

Supert hotell med et fantastisk utendørs saltvannsbasseng. Stranden utenfor hotellet er ikke lov å benytte. Erverdig Engelsk hotell fra 1864 som er i god stand med gode fasiliteter og uteområder. Fantastisk buffé både til frokost og middag. Betjeningen ser ut som om de trives på jobb.

Overall the hotel, set out in colonial style is fantastic. The staff are amazing and always very helpful and the facilities are great (the gym is a bit dated but does the job. We were a bit disappointed to have paid extra for a sea-view room as it turned out to be smaller than a standard garden view room and also had an adjoining door to the next room which meant we could hear our neighbours. On the whole though a comfortable stay!

I’m very fond of this historic hotel and lived here for 2 months many many years ago when I was a young child. Stayed here last about 10 years ago when they were doing major renovations. They need to do more. Some things are run down and neglected. The swimming pool decking was broken in multiple places and has not been repaired. The fridge in my room really did not work and the control button was broken. Lots of small maintenance issues that need to be addressed. It smacks of complacency at the top. Staff are good, breakfast was great and it’s a glorious setting. But it’s a very famous hotel resting on its laurels.

A place with history, nice architecture. Very nice room with direct ocean facing window. Can open windows and stay off-aircon with fan. Nice small private beach and seawater pool to swim. Unfortunately the LED lighting in the rooms has flicker/strobe effects (reason is the cheapo ac/dc converters built into asian consumer grade lights), this has a subtile stress effect.

The rooms and hotels are great. Staff is very nice & the pool area is beautiful. I stood twice at 2 different rooms & it’s pretty neat and clean. The only flaw I encountered which was very disappointing is the stained bed sheets in junior sweet. Buy new sheets for crying out loud! It wasn’t even a standard room but a suite!

Heel vochtig (want heel slecht geïsoleerd) vanwege de ligging net aan de oceaan. Zelfs in sommige raamloze gangen in het hotel waren muren en meubilair nat.

Beautiful hotel with old world colonial charm but the ventilation needs some maintenance as it immediately smells of old mustiness. But amazing breakfast spread and I definitely still recommend it for its history and antiquated service. Also great location in front of Galle face green

Great old colonial era hotel, all the staff are really good, super view from the room and all spotlessly clean. Dining in The Veranda restaurant offers a great choice for both breakfast and dinner.

A good location within walking distance of town along parkland and sea front. Good breakfast buffet, great pool, outside bar and restaurant. The Regency sea view room was a little tired and hot water in shower not good. Old room key system, so had to leave and pick up from reception.

Room was what I booked..no upgrade ..even though they said I was. Toilet door didn't work so ja.med and couldn't get out. Bathroom sink clogged.

We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready, and then call three times and visit reception to get towels. The dinner buffet was not great. Otherwise, the room was very comfortable, with huge bed. The hotel really is a time travel experience and worthy of a one or two night stay

Great location and nice to stay in such an historic hotel. The room was comfortable but lacked some of the modern amenities - although recently renovated. Only warm water at best in the shower. Breakfast was great as was the meal we had in the 1864 Restaurant. We would definitely stay there again as the overall experience outweighed the few negatives.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Beautiful room. Fantastic food at the dinner buffe. However, there are much room for improvement. The outdoor areas are way overlooked and need a big renovation to put this hotel back to it's glory days. The food in the other restaurants were not very good. I also think this hotel needs a Concept planner, to make sure they cater for it's customers. To play loud music dunk,dunk at the pool bar does not sit well with a customer base 60+ - and actually really disturbing when you just want to relax and listen to the waves. Don't ask the Travel Agent in the reception to order a taxi for you, as you only get a driver who charge for a full day tour even though we said no! Had to pay full price anyway for a short trip...The hotel does not stock your mini bar if you don't put in a full order of what you want before hand?? Reason: oh, we are not doing this since after covid based on hygiene?? OMG, this happened 6 years ago and is history in the rest of the world. Step up if you want to be a 5 star hotel. Also really annoyed that our room faced the large outdoor area next to the hotel where they had a huge concert screen showing the cricket and playing really loud music until 23.00 in the night. Please stay away from rooms at this end.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. The worst customer experience I have ever had. The hotel manager does not care at all about the guests. They had a massive late night party with the music so loud that it was making the windows of our room shake. When this was flagged with the hotel manager he basically said I was lying and marched me up to my room. When he got there he realised how bad it was and relunctantly moved us to another despite originally saying there wasn’t any spare rooms. Even in the room we moved to we could still hear the music. Not a single apology and a smarmy grin on his face throughout the whole conversation - he’s an absolute whopper. The rest of the staff in the hotel were very nice & friendly but the arrogance & disdain showed by the management team ruined our experience of Colombo- AVOID AT ALL COSTS L.

The hospitality is unrivaled and every guest experience memorable, from the Afternoon High Tea to the delicious buffet dinner which my well travelled son described as one of the best meals he has had. Lovely old hotel located by the beach . Very charming hotel. Loved the hotel but the service ( bar and restaurant) was very poor. Was disappointed with the staff especially since all our others hotel stays in Sri Lanka were excellent with outstanding staff. Would stay there again because of the location and the unique hotel.

Väldigt charmigt, gammalt och anrikt hotell med mycket historia. Vackra miljöer och en härlig atmosfär. Mysigt poolområde. Personalen är serviceinriktad och mycket trevlig och rummen är rena och välskötta. En mycket bra plats att bo på vid besök i Colombo, vi skulle gärna bo här igen.

Extended trip at end of Sri Lanka tour. Hotel staff friendly and professional. Excellent buffet breakfast, high tea and dinner. Pool area is a bit public. Renovations happening at time of visit. Outside hotel Lots of Tuk Tuk drivers and men impersonating themselves to be locals giving advise dressed smartly, one man told us he was an engineer which we doubt very much trying to get us on a Gems Tuk Tuk tour. Need to walk near beach if don't want to be annoyed put us off spending more time walking around the city. Not the hotels fault they keep people off the premises. The hotel is located in the tourist area so off course you are targeted.Never felt in danger the touts and drivers were not aggressive.

We had a deluxe sea view room and it was really nice. For a longer stay, there was limited space to unpack and store clothes but the room was good. The reception staff were very good but the service in the bars and restaurants was poor. You could wait a half hour to even order a drink and wait another half hour for it to be served. i was upgraded, thanks to Expedia, to a suite on the 4th (top) floor, which was amazing. When I arrived at the hotel at 1 a.m., the lobby and my suite initially felt a tad worn. Wow. i don't why I had that impression -- the hotel property and my suite were beautiful. And I loved all the history. Having a drink in the bar and looking at the pictures of illustrious former guests over the past 160 years is inspiring, if intimidating. I mean, Chekov stayed there! I had great ocean views (I would think most rooms do), tons of space, and lots of comfort. Breakfast was amazing, and well worth a nominal extra charge. I enjoyed the large salt water pool and just wandering around the hallways and grounds. There is no elevator to the 4th floor -- you need to walk up from the 3rd -- so maybe don't stay on that level if stairs are an issue. Hotel location is pretty good too. Near a number of shopping and eating options, and steps from Galle Green, which is fun to wander around. In sum, great stay at a historic hotel. .

Great location and nice to stay in such an historic hotel. The room was comfortable but lacked some of the modern amenities - although recently renovated. Only warm water at best in the shower. Breakfast was great as was the meal we had in the 1864 Restaurant. We would definitely stay there again as the overall experience outweighed the few negatives.

Beautiful hotel, very centrally located and right next to the ocean. Our room was nice and spacious and clean. Staff and management were very nice and helpful all around. Eg 1: I had hurt my ankle the previous day, and over our 2 day stay, they assisted my wife in getting ice for my leg. Eg 2: We also needed a screwdriver to remove the battery from a toy we bought (for plane travel), and the staff went out of their way to help out with it (laughing at us). The breakfast and dinner buffet had great food, and the performer at the dinner buffet also played our song requests! Great place overall, would definitely recommend.

Convenient for Fort Railway Station less than 10 minutes by taxi. Dining options in the hotel weren’t great for us for lunch and dinner with limited vegetarian options but breakfast was outstanding. Lovely location close to the seafront and short tuk tuk to the temple. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready, and then call three times and visit reception to get towels. The dinner buffet was not great. Otherwise, the room was very comfortable, with huge bed. The hotel really is a time travel experience and worthy of a one or two night stay

Excellent choice of food but often only like warm rather than hot. I don’t think they have the correct type of infra red heating lamps to keep the food hot.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Beautiful room. Fantastic food at the dinner buffe. However, there are much room for improvement. The outdoor areas are way overlooked and need a big renovation to put this hotel back to it's glory days. The food in the other restaurants were not very good. I also think this hotel needs a Concept planner, to make sure they cater for it's customers. To play loud music dunk,dunk at the pool bar does not sit well with a customer base 60+ - and actually really disturbing when you just want to relax and listen to the waves. Don't ask the Travel Agent in the reception to order a taxi for you, as you only get a driver who charge for a full day tour even though we said no! Had to pay full price anyway for a short trip...The hotel does not stock your mini bar if you don't put in a full order of what you want before hand?? Reason: oh, we are not doing this since after covid based on hygiene?? OMG, this happened 6 years ago and is history in the rest of the world. Step up if you want to be a 5 star hotel. I recently stayed at this hotel and had a fantastic experience overall. Breakfast is superb. Real varities of food. Balcony is ok. Needs cleaning because of pigeons. But, it is difficult. Floor rug is really old and dirty. Room service excellent. Reception is very good but I noticed that the plesant reception on arrival slowly vanishes for long term guests, I duppose familiarity. On the whole we had a very plesant stay. We will go back again.

My third stay at this hotel and did not fail my expectations. Check in is easy. Staff are very help and pleasant. Loved the breakfast and had great afternoon at the restaurant by the pool. The infinite pool is lovely.
