Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel

Accommodated on the second floor up two large flights of stairs in the old part of the complex. No lifts. Not ideal if you've got COPD and Asthma, let alone artificial hip's. Would have been helpful if this had been brought to my attention prior to arriving etc. Prices for evening meals were also on the steep side.

Enjoyed our stay although there was a private function meaning the bar was off limits. The room was very nice, a very big bed and plenty of pressure in the shower.

Stayed many times now as such great hotel the health club with the swimming pool is amazing

Staff were nice put property needs and upgrade Steam and sauna needed an upgrade and cleaning as did the pool!

A very tired hotel which with some investment could be lovely again. Leisure club a great addition but again desperately needs a refurb. Also closing the jakuzzi for cleaning on a busy sunday morning is not the best time.

Very old and run down the spa especially. Walls paper thin so could hear everything was kept up all night due to a party right below us

I was turned away from using the swimming pools at 19:00 with my partner,that I found so distasteful for a great Hotel like this

The staff were excellent. Rooms were very small, beds moved knocking legs, no shelves - very little space. Corridor smelt althiugh rooms didn't. Main issue was Hoyel holding a private function in main lounge, restaurant & bar area - closed off to guests. Noise unbearable - couldn't converse in reception area. Staff worked tirelesslu to accomadate a table in the overbooked, temporary restaurant. Tiny bar had little stick. We couldn't relax in the beautiful grounds due yo thr party guests being out there. Music was unbearable. Had we known ww wouldn't have stayed. Spent the evening cooped up in our rooms. Such a shame because the Hotel, staff & grounds are lovely

NOT accessible in my opinion Platform lift out of action looks like has been for a while so in order to get from reception to lifts you had to leave the building and go around and back in a double heavy doored possibly a fire escape but not certain Please tell the chef not to incinerate the bacon and sausages Where was Basil

Very very dirty. very noisy the banging of the corridor door which was opposite my room for 301 every time some one came in or out. Requested a fan in the room as no aircon in the room which I did not realise but reception said there was one in the room which there was not had to phone to ask for one to be brought to the room the room I felt had not been cleaned for my stay with you as photos will show as I am asthmatic this dust made me feel poorly and had to use my nebuliser in the night as the fan was filthy and was just spreading the dust. I wished I had taken a photo of the fan.but they will know what this is like as it is still in the room I was told there were twin beds that I could push together so I did not roll out of the bed and fall on the floor this was not doable because of the bedside table. Why would they ring me bk and tell me this was correct in the accessible room I could push the beds together this was room 301

The curtains in the bedroom were frankly disgusting, they were ripped and torn and looked dirty.

We booked one night as we were spending Christmas with relatives near by and this hotel has a reputation for being excellent. The staff on reception were friendly but unfortunately it went down hill from there. Our room was on the second floor about as far from reception as possible. I think this must be because we booked through Expedia as we have experienced this at other hotels when booking through an agency. The lift was situated down some stairs from reception and the stair lift was out of order so not great for disabled guests. The corridors were quite nice and looked as if they had new carpets. The room was a different story quite small, which wasn't a problem, and the beds were comfortable although the duvet cover had some stains on it. The cover had been laundered so just a bit disappointing that it wasn't checked before being put on the bed. The net curtains were dirty and had a number of holes and splits in them. One of the bath towels had a big hole in it. The decor was tired and there was a lot of peeling paint around the windows. The heating was traditional radiators but we couldn't turn it off so the room was too hot. The carpet definitely needs cleaning. The wardrobe had 4 hangers with no draw or shelf space or even a stand to put a case on! Having said that, it was quiet and served the purpose. OK for one night but I wouldn't want to spend more than one night.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and this was by far the best stay - room was spotless, staff so friendly and helpful - looking forward to my next stay in Jan.

When we arrived and were heading to bed after long journey found Bed linen was dirty with stains, blood , human hair, grit and rips. Manager came and replaced covers whilst we waited I our pyjamas. Whole process took over 1hr. Carpets filthy requested it be hoovered next day as cud not be moved as other room available was on side of building without lift which was not possible with my disability. Hotel is not disabled friendly. Majority of rooms I was told have bath showers so again not disabled friendly. Food was not good. On the positive side. Staff are really nice and friendly

Dust on the lights above mirror in bathroom. Toothpaste on the mirror. Suspect hair in the bath. Thick dust on the bead head. Heavy staining on the bathroom pipes. Over priced breakfast . greasy burger and onion rings.

Stayed for a night begore visiting Leeds Castle (literally next door). Room was clean and lovely view. But the only thing I would say is the room needs more sockets. None by the bed to charge phone, and I had to put the kettle and tea tray, together with the seperate coffee machine, all on the dressing table, as no plugs anywhere else to plug into. So was constantly plugging / unplugging hair straightners, lamp, kettle, coffee machine and phones. But other than that small problem, I would recommend the hotel and stay again.

The only let down and its a very minor one in the room me and my girl friend was in unless you bring your own usb plug there was no usb socket in the plug points in the room but like i say that was to me a very minor point

Clean hotel but a bit dated in decor. Corridors are sometimes confusing within the newer blocks added. Bathrooms clean, food excellent. Breakfast buffet well worth the £12 fee. NO air conditioning and rooms exposed to the sunny side are very warm. Fans provided but inadequate to cool the room. Would still visit again.

We had a nice stay ,but the two nights we stayed,at night there were youngsters running up and down the corridor banging doors didn't sleep well ,they were told about it other people complained, we usually come to Ramada for my birthday and my boyfriends this is the first time I've had to complain

The room was clean, but incredibly dated, like the rest of the hotel. Wasn't what I was expecting, and not up to the same standard as many of the Mercure Hotels I've stayed in previously. That said, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel could just do with a bit of love!

Took 15 minutes to check in at an understaffed reception. Bedroom was like a sauna.

Hotel is very dated and overpriced. Room was small and hot wirh no aircon. Room clean but very run down. Staff at reception rude and insisted on a sharp 3pm check in unless i joined the loyalty scheme. Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly.

We stayed for 2 nights, on first impressions the outside looks a bit dated but reception looked more modern inside, check in was easy and the receptionist was polite and friendly I’ll start with negatives first: We booked a privilege room with lake view, I think calling it a lake view is a push as you could barely see it, the room was a bit old fashioned and there were burn marks on the carpet, the toilet roll holder was broken, hardly any tv channels worked, and the only plug socket by the bed didn’t work, the walls are thin and we could here the tv from the next room, the windows are single glazed and only one of these opened We had a meal in the restaurant on the 2nd night and for the price would have expected a more, the manager I assume as he was the only one in a suit, had to find menus for us as he didn’t have any, and there was no drinks menu so has to ask the waitress what was available, we were not offered water even though other tables were, and the service was slow and staff not as helpful or friendly Now for the positives: All the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful, especially the gentleman on reception on our 2nd night, who’s name I unfortunately didn’t get, but he could not do enough, he was great The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection and the staff were amazing Even though I wasn’t impressed with the service and staff with our meal, the food was good Overall staff were very good but a bit more TLC and modernisation needed elsewhere

The room itself was very hot as there is no air conditioning, as such we had to have the window open all night to cool the room down. The mattress was also very hard which meant that I did nt have a comfortable sleep. The key card failed twice and we had to return to reception to re-authorise the card to gain access to our room. The car parking was free to hotel users , which was a plus, The breakfast was ok but it was a buffet style which meant that the food was under heaters and some had started to become hard, especially the eggs. For a one night stay this was acceptable. The staff were welcoming and helpful.

If it weren't for the staff, this would be a typical run-of-the-mill conference hotel. However, the staff are outstanding - I stay in hotels at least twice a week, and the reception experience from Steve was the best and friendliest I've ever had. Throughout the rest of my day, from breakfast, through to the events team I noticed such care and passion from the team, with many people pro-actively spotting when guests needed help or guidance. Really world-class service, thank you.

I rang ahead as I knew I’d be late to arrive. The lady on the phone was very bubbly, polite and most of all; helpful! When I got to the hotel, the nights team were cleaning the reception area but rushed to assist me through the doors. The gentleman behind reception was very knowledgeable about local traffic and the best routes to take for my onward journey and even gave me a complimentary breakfast voucher as I didn’t know if I’d booked breakfast or if it was included or not. Don’t get me wrong, the decor is dated in places BUT it is clean and the beds are very comfortable!

Great staff - Nina was especially helpful and kind. Room nice and restaurant food good. Nice facilities and comfy firm bed.

The hotel was great, the room was large with a great view of the grounds and lake, even had a hot air balloon experience taking off from the grounds which was brilliant to see, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options and was good quality, nice bar area including outdoor seating. hotel was in a great location with leeds castle very close by and multiple country pubs within a 10 minute drive

Booked the Great Danes as I would not be arriving until late on a Sunday and knew that their reception would be manned. The hotel is being refurbed at the moment so there was some inconvenience getting to my room. Once in the room, which was quiet, facing the rear carpark, there was the usual: TV, Kettle, Tea, Coffee, glasses, ample bathroom and a large bed - a bit too firm for me. The hotel location is excellent for my office which is 10 mins away. Carpark is large and no issue finding a parking spot. Staff were very friendly, as always. Food in the hotel was OK. I had Fish and Chips, which were cooked very well and tasted good.

Located in beautiful surroundings.

A nice good value for price hotel out of the busy town.

In this hotel for a weekend as a couple. The location is very convenient, beautiful, in the middle of a very nice park. Nice staff, good bar and good restaurant. The rooms are a bit dated, furniture that has had a hard time with some previous guests and may even be a few years old. Overall good experience, only problem is a little noise, because of the nearby street and when there are events in the reception room. But personally I consider it a good experience.

Great location. Nice rooms. Accommodated us with interconnecting rooms for our family plus welcomed our large breed dog. Will stay here again!

Love staying at The Mecure hotel. Staff very friendly. Hotel in a great position for visiting lots of places in Maidstone. Right next door to Leeds castle.

Lisa on reception who checked us in and out was very helpful and courteous. May in the dining room was very polite and friendly. Our room was a nice size. TV reception was a bit hit and miss. There were no drawers in the room to put underwear away so everything was on show on a shelf. Food was good. Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice. Dinner portions a fair size and tasty food.

Terrible service in restaurant. Never actually ate there as in quiet place with less than 5 tables in use felt invisible. Other patrons who arrived after us were served first. Also immediately canceled 2nd night we had just booked. In Room 102 could hear Terrible noises like a door moving on squeaky rollers all night. Fan didn't work in bathroom. Generally very tired decor in hotel. Only one spoon on amenity tray, very few tea bags and one pack of biscuits. On the plus side it was a nice king size bed. Certainly didn't merit star racing. I have never given such a negative review on a property. So disappointed as it has the potential to be really nice.

Room tiny and my food (gammon steak),was just thickish bacon. It took 50 minutes to arrive with other tables (4) served before us when in after us. Staff were unhelpful.

Hotel a little run down but the basics were fine. Extraordinary decor in places! Evening meal a disappointment. Bar noisy and uncomfortable. Pie was OK but my warm Asian ald was cold. I was told that there were no noodles so vegetables would be substituted. This turned out to be huge chunks of less-than-fresh broccoli, tough and inedible. Whoever was in the kitchen was obviously unengaged and had never tried to eat large chunks of raw broccoli! CAn't give more than three stars for this reason.

The staff are excellent. Very professional and helpful. Cleanliness is A1. Breakfast is very good with a good range in choice from full English to fruit and yogurt. With the freak UK weather air con is a must. But fully understand for the 4 days a year we get excessive weather it’s probably not worth the cost. But that said it’s a nice hotel with great Staff

Dinner well you can’t call it that it’s all pre frozen rubbish

Needs a tidy up and a lick of paint, very tired and dated. Dinner service was over an hour, which was disappointing.
