Poor dining experience with service and cold food. Superb facilities in the gym and Spa, shame there is a £15 charge and hotel guests can only use the facilities from 5pm til 9pm which is not advertised when booking.

Hotel/room in tired condition. Note also-hotel guests are unable to use the pool/gym facilities etc (which are totally separate to the hotel and require their own independent booking for a considerable fee per person…). So, very pricey for a hotel in slightly scruffy condition with no pool/gym access.

My husband and I stayed at Mottram Hall last week for two nights and we were upgraded to a lovely room but it was next to a fire door that was very noisy. We went to reception and spoke to the lovely Katy who kindly gave us another upgrade to an amazing room which was a lot quieter. The spa facilities were lovely and very clean. It has a lovely gym and pool area, unfortunately you do have to pay to use these and you are limited for times as a guest. You could use the facilities all day but at a large cost, which did not seem fair if you stayed at the hotel. Our stay was lovely and I would recommend this hotel.

A one night stay re a business meeting the next day. Lovely hotel and surroundings, but beware there is aircraft noise from nearby Manchester airport planes on the flight route. Hotel doesn't have sound proofing re traditional building. Food prices were nothing short of ridiculous in the restaurant and no beers on draft. Overall lovely for a wedding not for business overnights

Hotel was lovely clean and comfortable but spa not included it is only £15 per person per day we booked on a Friday for the Saturday n Sunday so spa was fully booked once we arrived so spent the whole time in the room was even allowed to use the gym

After an anniversary stay I’ve come home with bed bug bites, there was cobwebs in the bedroom, and someone needs to look at the underside of the bathroom sink as when you are in the bath the pipe work is thick with dust! Thanks

Cleaning in the room was not great. We arrived to a dressing table covered in biscuit crumbs. After using coffee cups and rinsing in the bathroom, we found them back next to the kettle tray, but dirty with dried coffee stains in the bottom. The hotel itself is ok, it’s an old building so will have the quirks that go with that, however maintenance could be better, we have a couple of lamps with no bulbs, struggled to open and close the window. The Spa was very good, food was good. But I’d not be in a rush to return. Staff were hit and miss, some were wonderful and some really didn’t want to be there.

Not as nice as you would expect of a 4* hotel. The room decor is a bit outdated with paint coming off on the windows, the corridors had clean and dirty linen piled up on the window sills, there were dirty cups just left in the corridor, a ladder seemed to be a permanent feature! When we arrived at 3:45 we were told our room wasn’t ready but that quickly changed when I said we needed to get ready and be out within the hour. Rubbish water pressure made showering tricky. Coffee granules from previous stay spilt over tray. Breakfast was cold and chaotic, not enough plates, having to ask repeatedly for coffee and slow to restock the cooked goods. Overall not up to scratch.

Modernised rooms, great spa and golf facilities. Plenty of space. Room servicing required attention. We stayed 3 nights and the room wasn’t serviced on any day noting we paid the same for each day we expected the room to look and feel clean each day. The room was okay, hotel is in a lovely place. My room wasn’t ready for check in and I was part of a wedding so haven’t to come back wasn’t ideal, my room wasn’t entirely clean, there were dirty tissues under the sink cabinet and there were missing batteries in the remotes in my room. The dishes and glasses at breakfast were also dirty.

Paid for a family room for 2 nights (2 adults, 2 children) when we arrived there were no family rooms left. We were offered 2 double rooms which meant splitting the family into 2. One of the room had empty alcohol bottles dotted around the room and behind the tv. Evidently the room hadnt been cleaned very well. My husband couldnt eat the breakfast as all the hot food were cold. We were woke at 2am to a guest shouting and screaming which in turn woke our children up. Considering the cost we paid for 2 nights the whole situation was unacceptable. The staff did try given the situation which we were greatful for. Will absolutely not be returning.

I had a number of problems with my stay at this spa hotel. The carpet in the room had multiple stains on it. The vent was full of dust in the room for the air-conditioning. Also the air-conditioning didnt even work we were absolutely roasting all night and struggle to sleep. The window was full of cobwebs and the phone in the room for room. Service had no line to it so there was basically just a phone for show. Really disappointed.

The location and facilities were good, however the bathrooms are dated, it’s very noisy with doors slamming all night, and we had security warning guests in the middle of the night they would be “chucked out” all in a very poor nights sleep

We arrived at 4 to be told our room wasnt ready, and asked to wait. After a while the reception came over with a room key and card which wasnt in our name. So further delay and before coming back to ask if it was an expedia booking befor finally giving us a key. The room overlooked the hotels ventilation equipment together with the associated noise. The bed was very soft and provided little support whilst the pillows were insubstantial. On the positive side the event we attended was well run with good service and so we hive this a better rating than might otherwise have been the case.

Really lovely stay. The bedroom was large & a huge bed! Very clean, modern but classic also the added air conditioning was welcomed in the June temperatures. We added breakfast and it was yummy. Only negative from us, was the bathroom had a very strong smell of bleach. We washed down the shower area but the smell remained, even more so when we closed the door. Overall we had a great stay. Thank you

We were in room 330 paid over 500£ to look at bins!. The noise early morning or late at night was annoying. People/staff chatting around this area. Curtain in bedroom ripped. Plugs near the bed were round not normal 3pin sockets. Fan in bathroom use to turn on randomly and it rattled all the time. When we checked in receptionist was rude. Gentleman who was with her was lovely and all the waiters/bar staff were great. When I had to speak to reception again 2 ladies this time, I waited 10 minutes before they even acknowledged me. No apology just Rude! Very dated decor. Not worth the money. Nothing was included in your stay or use of pool/facilities etc that was another £15 a day to use. £26 for 2 beers and glass of wine. Spa is spectacular and worth the visit for this. Evening meal was also beautiful- the duck was sublime- great recommendation by staff. The rooms I did feel let this hotel down, the tvs are so outdated, instant coffee is a let down and I felt the bathrooms need some TLC and renovations. The breakfast I also felt was of poor quality but I did arrive later for breakfast but felt there could be more variety and cooked to serve

The service from the minute I arrived was most welcoming and to a high standard. I was a solo guest and the brilliant reception staff provided me with all the key information I needed to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable and this really put my mind at rest. Cameron at Barney’s really looked after me and enabled me to order food and take it back to my room so not have to endure dining on my own. Indi and Jack also looked after me and gave me excellent service and went above and beyond to help me when I was informed at short notice on the day that Barney’s was closed for a private function. I genuinely had the best stay and would recommend to everyone. Thank you for giving me the best break.

Not as nice as you would expect of a 4* hotel. The room decor is a bit outdated with paint coming off on the windows, the corridors had clean and dirty linen piled up on the window sills, there were dirty cups just left in the corridor, a ladder seemed to be a permanent feature! When we arrived at 3:45 we were told our room wasn’t ready but that quickly changed when I said we needed to get ready and be out within the hour. Rubbish water pressure made showering tricky. Coffee granules from previous stay spilt over tray. Breakfast was cold and chaotic, not enough plates, having to ask repeatedly for coffee and slow to restock the cooked goods. Overall not up to scratch.

Service shockingly bad for multiple reasons: 1.Check in times not respected 2.I was billed despite having pre paid the room. 3. No housekeeping or replenishment of water I booked a total of around 70 people the week-end of June 28-30 and the consensus was just terrible lack of responsiveness all around. So glad we chose Chatsworth to host our daughter's wedding and not Mottram as originally planned. I am in hospitality and I can't stress how shockingly bad the service was.

We booked months before the trip from the US to Champneys. We applied for early check in 2:00PM as we had been traveling over 13 hours. We were told no that 3:00PM was the check in time. We were ok with this but when we checked in again at 3:00PM we were told the room was still not ready. After another 40 mins we were told that the room we had originally booked was not available but they would "upgrade us " the upgrade was anything but it was a very tired older room nothing like the room we had booked on line. The whole place was tired looking and no where near depicted in its blog

Room not ready at 5pm! One person on at the bar all evening, the worse breakfast service and food I've ever had the misfortune to experience. Receptionist didn't even ask 'how was your stay?'. While checking out, a party of three people were grilling the manager on their 'rubbish' weekend.

We stayed for 3 nights for a wedding in a suite. Arrived to find we had been allocated a room up 4x flights of stairs with no lift- not great with a baby & toddler. No offer of help with our bags/pushchair upon check in. The cleaners spare supplies were thrown outside our room, which remained there for the remainder of our stay. The room was large, and the beds comfy. Staff on the whole seemed disinterested, sometimes rude and most of the time not very helpful. Reception never answered the phone, so asking for fresh towels meant walking down the 4x flights of stairs. Breakfast not great, had to ask for the basics (highchair & coffee) after being ignored for 15mins with a very quiet restaurant. I visited the gym, to which I was told was a £15 charge for 35mins, otherwise I had to pay £55. Sorry, this is ridiculous! Everything seems to be an “extra charge”, the hotel clearly makes its money through ripping guests off. Honestly, save your money and stay in a Premier Inn with superior service, room standards and breakfast!

A one night stay re a business meeting the next day. Lovely hotel and surroundings, but beware there is aircraft noise from nearby Manchester airport planes on the flight route. Hotel doesn't have sound proofing re traditional building. Food prices were nothing short of ridiculous in the restaurant and no beers on draft. Overall lovely for a wedding not for business overnights

This is an average hotel. It has a large golf course and good spa and gym, however if you are not using them the hotel is very average which is very overpriced. My hotel room I had to go back outside to get to it which was painful as raining. Room was small and wallpaper peeling. Bathroom was old but had be touched up. Only came to this hotel as the Thyrington Club Hotel was fully booked.

Room was tired and needs up grading but clean. Breakfast was disappointing for the money paid. The hot food was look warm, no choice of types of eggs. No hash browns, black pudding. Coffee was cold. The girl in the breakfast room was not interested in her job. I had to ask for cutlery, cups, tea and coffee. I had to go to the breakfast cereal are to get milk for coffee. She was not welcoming at all!!! I had a much better breakfast in the Premier inn for a lot less in price.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was comfy and view was lovely. Spa was fantastic Room service menu is limited and only available until 9pm. In the shower, there is no shower gel bottle so had to reach over the sink to get some shower gel. If there was a soap dish, I would have put some in there and brought into the shower.

On arrival we went for lunch in the Champagne bar, we ordered sandwiches on brown bread and 2 pots of tea, the fire alarm went and we were sent out to the front of hotel for 5-10 minutes, on return to the bar, our tea and sandwiches were sitting on the table, the sandwiches were wrong, ( white bread!) we sent them back, had the Luke warm tea and once correct sandwiches arrived we asked for fresh tea and were given the same tea pots with same teabags and just topped up with hot water! The waiter could not have been more uninterested in us the customer service was absolutely terrible! We were then put in a room that was like a furnace was very dark and was just beside the spa so the noise was unbelievable! We had to ask for a change of room! Spa was very nice! Dinner was also very nice and service not too bad but not brilliant, however the service at breakfast was horrific! The girl serving coffee, made a face when we asked for top ups and I had to wait 15 minutes for a pot of decaffeinated tea! Will not be rushing back!
