This was a stopover while travelling south from Scotland to Somerset. The accommodation was just what we wanted and as the facilities include chargers we were able to start next days journey after a good breakfast and with a fully charged car.

ok! Shower needed refreshing with stained mastic and mould on ceiling. Lift not working. I waited 15 mins or so and no-one came to take my breakfast order so left as I didn't have time to wait. Ordered a pint of Peroni at the bar and there was quite a head on it - another member of staff noticed me looking at it and topped it up. Door in the corridor near my room had a note on it asking people not to let it self close as it slammed shut very loudly - even letting go a couple of inches from closed it still made a very loud noise - why not fix it as would be very annoying in the night if your room was near. Recently stayed at Houston House near Livingston - another hotel in your chain and found the staff much friendlier.

The hot Breakfast although plentiful was barely warm, and the EV charging a joke, 6 bays occupied by 5 petrol cars and one Ev which wasn't even plugged in, why ask for Reg no's if as you say you can't do anything about it!!!

Hotel is good for the price but spoilt by lack of care- curtain where hanging off and light outside in the hall was off so needed to use torch on my phone to find the key whole. Also the fact that you have to pay £5 to park your car is not hi-lighted enough. Bit of a con really as the hotel is beside the motorway and no other place you can park ????

At check in, we weren't given a code to exit the car park. We assumed the barrier was automatic. On check in, clerk only took payment for 1 night. On check out, we were informed we hadn't paid. So we had to look at the email to see if an amount was due. The shower in room 204 was faulty. I had a lukewarm shower 2 days running. It also fluctuated to cold during use. I had informed reception on the evening of the first day, but nothing was done. THIS WAS VERY UNSATISFACTORY! Not what we expect for the money paid. The hotel was clean and otherwise comfortable for our requirements.

I believe this room was an upgrade from my previous stay. Slightly more spacious with a bigger more recently refurbished bathroom. But no power to the comfortable reclining chair and a dodgy tv controller. Breakfast was partial self service but the cooked food direct from the kitchen wasn’t hot and freshly prepared. Whole stay was excellent value though. Great location close to the M6 service station and EV charging very close.

Feels poor to have a parking charge added on arrival after paying up front on Hotel’s dot Com app. An added expense and I still think the app is just not clear enough. Not a great Customer experience and obviously you then view the hotel with different eyes. It’s tired as a facility but room was spacious but they were not ready for a 7am breakfast today so it was all a bit of a rush. Not a wonderful breakfast buffet but adequate. In total need of decorating. Good location by the Motorway.

I stayed at the Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel and unfortunately found the room in a poor state—thick dust under the bed, cobwebs, exposed wiring in the corner, and a mouse that ran across the floor and vanished beneath peeling carpet. That said, the woman on reception was fantastic—she was completely understanding, didn’t question my concerns, and immediately issued a full refund, along with free breakfast and parking. No fuss, no pushback—she handled it professionally and with empathy. The hotel clearly has major maintenance and cleanliness issues to fix, but I can’t fault the staff on duty for how they handled it.

Stayed here about 5 years ago and as I had business nearby seemed the right choice.. however, the rooms are neglected. Dust everywhere, skirting, TV, curtains and pelmet.. obviously not seen a Hoover in many months.. bathroom is quite small and who decided to put the loo so damned close to the wall?? You need to be a contortionist to wipe! Hairs in the sink and some sort of substance around the plug hole? Window over rider not secured to the window and quite a bit of road noise from M6. Food and drink is actually decent quality (except the chips as more like soggy raosties) but very high cost. Reduction on the portion size perhaps to bring costs back inline? First negative review I have had to leave in a long time. Would only come back if it was brought back to standard of previous years. Such a shame as it’s a lovely location next to the river with convenient links to the motorway and for Lake District.

Very dated bedroom, two armchairs in bedroom were very old and in poor condition. The bathroom smelled very damp and foisty, there was lots of mould in the shower cubicle on the ceiling and around the tiles. The bed was comfy and the room was warm and quiet.

The staff were excellent in fact couldn’t have been better . The hotel location is fantastic for traveling up or down the m6 . I had a river view very nice . The hotel is very very tired but that was reflected in the price . I thought the dinner and wine to be London price not good value at all . My god the room temperature was so hot sauna standards couldn’t put down or open the window basically if they could put the heating down they could half the price for eating .

Properly is old and requires renovation. Worst post was that there was no AirCon!! Room was next to motorway so you can’t even open robberies because you would hear all the noise… not worth the money..

Wi-fi was very poor, kept dropping out and it was very frustrating when trying to work. When opening the window the 2 inches or so that was possible, it did make it very noisy as the hotel is next to a petrol station and main road/motorway. Staff & service was very good. Food was good.

What a lovely surprise this place was. It’s a little dated but was clean and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. We have paid a lot more for a lot less. Room and en-suite were great with a lovely view of the river.

We booked this hotel as a last minute overnight trip during a long roadtrip back from Scotland. The family room was just big enough to get three of us in. The beds were comfy enough. The only lighting was a couple of spotlights by the door and a lamp at the desk so it was very dark. The window didn't open. The bathroom was tiny, not ideal for helping children to wash. The toilet flush was broken, the sink plug was broken, and I had to run the shower to get warm water to come through to the sink tap as after running it for several minutes it was still cold. The only redeeming quality for this hotel was the free parking and breakfast was fairly decent.

The bed was super comfortable. However I had the misfortune of being allocated a connecting room. Unlike modern hotels where there is two doors between the room. There is only one and you can hear everything next door. I was woken up up someone watching TV between 2 & 3 in the morning. It didn’t sound like it was turned up but I could hear it word for word. Also the shower gel was empty if I had known before I got in the shower it would not have been so bad. There was mould on the bathroom ceiling. Finally I was not at check in of departure advised of the code to exit the car park. Luckily another guest let md out which saved me going back to reception. Thd hotel was very clean and comfortable, just make sure you don’t get a connected room if you want a good nights sleep

I have stayed here before and in other Macdonald hotels. On this occasion my experience was dreadful. On arrival I was greeted by a guy who literally did not want to be there. I had to ask where he was to a person in the bar! He had no interest and did not make eye contact. The room I had did not have WI-FI. When I rang reception he did not answer. I went downstairs to ask about Wi-Fi and he told me to go to my laptop, unfollow and then re follow the router details. He also said nobody else had a problem!! I eventually got another room, again, no Wi-Fi. At breakfast next morning, I placed my order for vegetarian breakfast. They had no veg haggis, sausage or potatoe scones. I then ordered eggs royal. They then came back and said they had no salmon. Ended up with beans on toast. Very poor service/ experience and not what I would expect from this chain. If they continue like this, nobody will visit.

Dreadful, I won’t be staying there again. The welcome was terrible (made to wait whilst paperwork, not related to my stay, was completed, and then a very surly “Surname” and the key handed over without any grace at all), the bedside table was broken and clearly in danger of collapsing, no sockets anywhere near the bed (I have a sleep apnea machine, I had to sleep on the other side of the bed to enable it to reach at a real stretch) and then, despite making it very clear I was dairy intolerant (which they’d acknowledged) I was served dinner with a creamy sauce. When I queried that, and they confirmed it was full of dairy, they changed my plate and supplied a fresh potato pancake but did not offer fresh veg and did not apologise.
Dreadful, I won’t be staying there again. The welcome was terrible (made to wait whilst paperwork, not related to my stay, was completed, and then a very surly “Surname” and the key handed over without any grace at all), the bedside table was broken and clearly in danger of collapsing, no sockets anywhere near the bed (I have a sleep apnea machine, I had to sleep on the other side of the bed to enable it to reach at a real stretch) and then, despite making it very clear I was dairy intolerant (which they’d acknowledged) I was served dinner with a creamy sauce. When I queried that, and they confirmed it was full of dairy, they changed my plate and supplied a fresh potato pancake but did not offer fresh veg and did not apologise.

I stayed at the Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel and unfortunately found the room in a poor state—thick dust under the bed, cobwebs, exposed wiring in the corner, and a mouse that ran across the floor and vanished beneath peeling carpet. That said, the woman on reception was fantastic—she was completely understanding, didn’t question my concerns, and immediately issued a full refund, along with free breakfast and parking. I used this hotel regularly some years back Sadly this visit was not on a par with my previous visits. Staff were trying their best but under pressure with one girl almost in tears. The impact of brexit has left them short staffed and inexperienced 😔

Quite a dismal experience. All started with having to phone someone to request attendance at reception so that i could check in. A member of staff was walking past seeing I was waiting and didn’t mention a word. Then when someone else arrived after five minutes or so, I was advised that it would cost £5 for parking (not detailed on booking). Get to the room past the corridors that have not seen a lick of paint of had the deteriorating wallpaper replaced and things aren’t much better. Black marks on the walls, mould on the shower grout, dust in the light fittings, a TV from 2005.. it’s endless. Upon departure the next morning the breakfast was just as dire. Continental selection barely existent and the quality of cooked breakfast definitely isn’t aware winning as per their menu. For the price point they charge, steer clear.

The personnel were absolutely lovely and helpful. Anne was wonderful and she had organised our meal after the kitchen had closed for a function. Everyone was so cheerful including the morning breakfast staff who were absolutely run off their feet as the hotel was quite full. We loved the whole Fawlty Towers set up :)

We stopped overnight to break up a long journey with young children. Location was ideal and staff were brilliant, i cant remember the mans name but he served us at the bar and at breakfast the next morning. Very professional, kind, friendly and helpful made my stay a pleasure even tho i hadd my hands full with the little once he was always happy to assist which even the smell things make a big difference to busy mums. Room waa very large and well equipped, beds were clean and comfy. Bathroom could have done with a couple of repairs but it is an old hotel and it was nothing major.

Lovely little hotel right on the river ribble, so it was a nice view from our room. The room was nice, with comfortable beds & super comfy arm chairs. The hotel in general could do with a bit of tlc as it was quite dated. The only downside was the constant noise from the traffic from the motorway.

Stayed here about 5 years ago and as I had business nearby seemed the right choice.. however, the rooms are neglected. Dust everywhere, skirting, TV, curtains and pelmet.. obviously not seen a Hoover in many months.. bathroom is quite small and who decided to put the loo so damned close to the wall?? You need to be a contortionist to wipe! Hairs in the sink and some sort of substance around the plug hole? Window over rider not secured to the window and quite a bit of road noise from M6. Food and drink is actually decent quality (except the chips as more like soggy raosties) but very high cost. Reduction on the portion size perhaps to bring costs back inline? First negative review I have had to leave in a long time. Would only come back if it was brought back to standard of previous years. Such a shame as it’s a lovely location next to the river with convenient links to the motorway and for Lake District.

4 star hotel maybe in 1994 but not in 2024, this hotel is seriously tired and is need in of major refurbishment and it wound seem that the housekeeping staff have also given up too as the rooms where incredibly dusty and the walls and carpets where stained. The bed sheets where clean though.

I have stayed here before and in other Macdonald hotels. On this occasion my experience was dreadful. On arrival I was greeted by a guy who literally did not want to be there. I had to ask where he was to a person in the bar! He had no interest and did not make eye contact. The room I had did not have WI-FI. When I rang reception he did not answer. I went downstairs to ask about Wi-Fi and he told me to go to my laptop, unfollow and then re follow the router details. He also said nobody else had a problem!! I eventually got another room, again, no Wi-Fi. At breakfast next morning, I placed my order for vegetarian breakfast. They had no veg haggis, sausage or potatoe scones. I then ordered eggs royal. They then came back and said they had no salmon. Ended up with beans on toast. Very poor service/ experience and not what I would expect from this chain. If they continue like this, nobody will visit.

Hotel is very tired! Rooms were ok (website photos are very definitely photo shopped!) Rooms were really hot despite the weather not being that hot, there was a fan in the room but that did little to cool the room down. Couldn't open windowsxas bugs/flies were flying around outside. Food was really good including breakfast but the breakfast staff were more interested in hiding round the corner chatting. Coukd be a fantastic venue but definitely needs updating.

The breakfast took ages, the staff couldnt accommodate the amount of guests. Cooked breakfast came and slow and was plated on cold plates. Breakfast was really poor. The rooms decor was very dated, we had a double deluxe. There was only one towel for a room with two guests. The show screen didnt protect the water from running onto the bathroom floor, the bathroom floor was covered in water. The shower screen was placed on the wrong side of the bath handle.

Massively overpriced, hardly any of the items menu in stock. I paid £20-£25 for breakfast only to find that half of the breakfast comes with an additional suppliment - you even have to pay an additional £4 for a latte at breakfast. Shame because i have stay at this hotel a lot over the years but never again.

I believe this room was an upgrade from my previous stay. Slightly more spacious with a bigger more recently refurbished bathroom. But no power to the comfortable reclining chair and a dodgy tv controller. Breakfast was partial self service but the cooked food direct from the kitchen wasn’t hot and freshly prepared. Whole stay was excellent value though. Great location close to the M6 service station and EV charging very close.

Average hotel, a little dated, definitely showing signs of re vamp being needed. Restaurant food good but expensive. Room ok but bathroom needed a degree of elbow grease not seen recently. Breakfast generally cold and greasy, to the point where on our last morning we stuck to cereal and toast. Highly unlikely to return.

Very dated bedroom, two armchairs in bedroom were very old and in poor condition. The bathroom smelled very damp and foisty, there was lots of mould in the shower cubicle on the ceiling and around the tiles. The bed was comfy and the room was warm and quiet.
