Britannia Hotel Wigan

I chose this hotel specifically because it had free parking and was close to the motorway - it was a one night stop-over to break up a long drive. The car parking was easy and free - just enter your reg at reception. There was no food service available that evening, which I think I'd read when I booked. The hotel reception is pleasant per the pictures, but beyond there it looks a bit more low budget. Our room looked like it had been recently decorated, and was clean, but felt quite basic. We could hear voices/conversations from the next room and hear plugs/switches being turned on and off - so not sound proofed. The shower over the bath-tub was warm but not great, and the flimsy bath tub felt like you were going to fall through it when you moved. That said, the room was warm and the neighbours weren't noisy so we had a good nights sleep. For the budget price that I paid, it was ok and did the job

Our room was of a good size, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. Convenient parking and prices were reasonable. We would definitely return.

Hotel is cheap but very run down. Bathroom door handel fell off whilst trying to get put. Bathroom its self looked like a 4 year old sealed the bath. Looked very 90's. Breakfast was poor Wont atay again. Preimer inn across the road is a better option.

Check in was ridiculous, the guy was being awkward on purpose, mentioned him to others that have stayed here and straight away they all knew who I was talking about as he was the same with all of them when they stayed here too. Stayed in many britannia’s, didn’t expect much but this was filthy even the bedroom walls were covered in dust, bed was extremely uncomfortable even got two bed bug bites. Hairs on bed too. I’ll stick to other Britannia’s but never this one ever again.

Hotel is in poor condition. Rooms smell ( I had two different rooms as the first had an unsavory stain on the nets). Shower has no water pressure whatsoever and cups were dirty. Bed was cheap and rock hard !! Staff were friendly - especially reception ( although a bit of body odor isn’t really the thing to smell when arriving). Place iz a total run down - location is ok but site has been let hi when it was a refugee hotel - I think they have a nerve saying it’s been refurbished. Could potentially be a nice hotel with a great location near Standidh and Parbold

Hotel is a bit run down in the rooms but i think that is reflective of the price and didn'taffect tge stay. The tea/coffee/sugar holder was filthy, other than that seemed clean. The reception staff were lovely.

The staff are absolutely lovely but the first room was dirty and blood stains on the sheet the receptionist was very apologetic and moved us to a nicer and clean room When I checked the bed the sheet had been tucked in so much at the bottom that the mattress was showing about a foot away, so I literally had to make the bed again When I told the girl she was so mortified and said that she would explain everything to her manager I said for all the inconvenience that we should be compensated with a free breakfast and that is exactly what they did I cannot fault the staff they were lovely and we had a lovely fresh made breakfast Don't know if I would stop again but all inall not too bad a hotel there are places to eat nearby but you need a car as the bus service is not brilliant

Room was nice and big and dark, Double bed is 2 singles put together with double sheets over top mattress rock hard pillows also. Hot water pressure in the shower was terrible took 10 15 min for hot water to come even then was luke warm. Toilet seat was loose

Budget accomodation - accepted. However... 1. Apart from the person who initially booked us in, the reception staff were uncommuinicative and, in one case, just sat at the desk eating food - very unprofessional. 2. The mattress was terrible, probably the most uncomfortable we've ever encountered. And only one pillow provided per person. 3. Bathroom shabby, poorly fitted out (How anyone could leave the sealant around the sink looking quite so amateurish is a mystery). The hotel was supposedly refitted last year; they clearly never reached the room we stayed in. 3.

Its the second time we have stayed here and will stay again. The room is big, clean and bed comfortable. Ample parking. The staff are friendly and helpful. Pity they dont provide hot breakfast but still no complaints for how much we paid, would definitely recommend

The bed was really uncomfortable and lumpy and resulted in back pain and not much sleep. The shower pressure was really weak and the water was in the shower and sink was cold. The low water pressure in the shower meant it was more of a trickle and I couldn't rinse the shampoo out of my hair properly.

Room was dated but clean and comfortable beds. Unfortunately very loud noise like a fan throughout the night. Also other guest very noisy and loud in corridors throughout the night.

It was good that we could check in anytime after 3pm, as we needed a late check in. The room was ok, it was clean and had all the things you need for an overnight stay. The beds are not comfy, the pillows are really hard and the springs in the mattress were sticking up. The walls are very thin and we could hear next doors conversations well into the early hours of the morning. Nosie on the corridor was loud during the night too. I suppose you get what you pay for, we only stayed for 1 night and it was enough.

Not the hotels responsibility, but not easy to get to without own car, no busses, had to use uber everytime going out, so either have own car, or find hotel closer to public transport. The staff was good and helpfull, good staff. Good price for the room, good size, but the beds are hard, really hard, like military bed hard. Not a big deal, but bathtub is child size, i was happy when i saw the bathtub, but it was either only but and legs in the tub, or legs loooong up on the wall, small All in all, recommend as long as you have your own car and your back survives hard beds.

Looked great at first. Travelled with my husband and 15 year old son. No barrel lock on bathroom door so couldn’t close it properly. Shower pressure was really bad, just a drizzle. The walls are paper thin and we could hear EVERYTHING the people next door were up to and it went on till the early hours.

Upon arrival, I was told the their was no room, as they oversold. I can wait or cancel a booking. But if I choose to wait, I will have to wait 1-2 hours before they clean the room.

Had a five night stay at this hotel with my partner and son who is 8 years old. The landing we were on stank of cigarette smoke and there was guests who were shouting, swearing and had there volume on there tv on loudly all through the night. I let reception desk know about this daily and on the last night i went to reception at midnight to complain. There wasnt a adequate response to any concerns I expressed through my whole stay. Non of us slept so the hotle met no expectation and failed to perform despite giving them the chance to improve the situation. I jave aent my complaints to the manager who insists a one night out of five refund is appropriate... very poor sevice and hotel definitely avoid if you got a family evn if it was like us who were out all day and only coming back to get a short rest before another long trip out. Found the hotel to be very unforgiving even with the time to reflect via email after I patiently relayed our experience and was willing to allow them to redeem there reputation

Nearly never got booked in as we had no ID, after travelling 5 hours from Portsmouth very tired and with Motorway closed in the area just just booked but there was no mention of ID on booking and staff couldn’t give a toss. Luckily had a photo of driving licence on my phone and eventually go in then got upstairs and every foot step creaked the floor boards!!

Receptionist rude and unhelpful. Other guests up partying and making loads of noise till 0430, no intervention from staff till the very end, so got barely any sleep. Room was fine.

What a ridiculous hotel .we checkedbin at 1am after a 6 hour drive obviously a little wary and we were confronted by a young lady asking for our passport i explained i did not have it .why would i need a passport in england ? She then said a credit caed would not do only a drivers licence.i explained mybwalletbwas in one of my bags in my very full car.she said unless you get it you cannot check in .i admit i lost it at that point but to be told by a non british subject that every hotel in the uk was the same is just plain lies .i travelled all over the uk last year and managed over 100 nights in hotel says .this is the first time in my life i have been told this rubbish .i checked into gleneagles todaybfor a week at no time was i asked for identification at any time .hotels.com are at fault here because it should have a warning saying unless you have id you cannot enter and would have to spend the evening in your car at -7degrees outside.nowhete does hotels.com tell you any of this.i certainly would never set foot in a britannia hotel again and would seriously question the people skills of its employees.i also may stop using hotels.com and go back to booking. Com they dont have these archaic rules ..shame on you britannia hotels

Great clean friendly hotel, huge beds! Lobby far too hot. Great staff!. Luke warm showers though, early check in free was a bonus thank you. Would recommend and stay here again. Has 2 restaurants and a garage accross the road 2 minutes walk excellent food & cocktails in the restaurant accross the road. Felt safe. Didn’t hear a thing the 2 nights we stayed

We enjoyed our stay after we went to our original booking snd was advised by Police and Community Police Staff not to stay there, the rooms were very clean (family room), but very warm, it was quite close to all places we wanted to goto, would stay again if i was in the area

It’s ok at best. My shower was terrible. Eventually managed to get into another room. Rooms are serviced only every 6 days! Although recently refurbished, still needs more work done not in great condition. No restaurant no breakfast either. Staff were ok they tried their best….but wouldn’t stay here again.

Booked online quoted £37 arrived at hotel £44 no food no breakfast no chef could have stayed accross rd £40 food and breakfast available not happy said I would decline stay told you have to pay anyway. Hotels . Com thought was honest but quote they gave and hotel recommended a shamble

It was better than expected, i was impressed on arrival and the reception area was very clean and tidy. All staff extremely helpful. The only thing that was a let down really was the lack of water pressure so showering took ages! The cooked breakfast was absolutely amazing.

The beds were comfortable. See photos for the room. Breakfast was poor, as all the food was fried and limited. Vegetarian breakfast was not offered. We had to ask for an egg and on the last day a staff member asked what we wanted but still got it wrong. One member of staff had dinner with a person staying amd dicussed very loudly that the old head cook was see on the CCTV getting a bj from the receptionist. No other food was available beside breakfast. The grounds were not taken care or cleaned. A nice staff member welcomed us, but didn't really know why you needed my driving licence number. This will be my last visit to a Britannia hotel unless updates are done.

There was no food available as the hotel was kot busy enough shower was broken so had to move rooms water preasure very poor
