Took 45 minutes to check in. They had a wedding party but clearly didn't staff it for the event. Went to eat at the restaurant and they said to check back in an hour and wouldn't take a name and number to let me know when a table was ready (also a staffing problem because the place wasn't full). The toilet didn't work half the time and the hot water on the shower didn't get hot. The grounds and pool were nice though.

The staff was friendly and the amenities the hotel provides are plentiful and appreciated. Warm and inviting lobby that seemed to be a place people enjoyed utilizing throughout the day. And even fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoons!

The accommodations are comfortable and clean. Staff friendly and efficient! The only problem encountered was there’s no elevator anywhere on site. I have MS and hiking up and down the stairs was more of a physical challenge than I care to encounter again.

We stayed in the middle building, which is 3 stories and has NO ELEVATOR (we were told they were 'grandfathered in' so didn't have to put one in--they should do it anyway!!!). The 1st floor is UP 1 flight of stairs! Since we were on the 2nd floor, we had to drag our heavy suitcases up 2 flights. We were offered a luggage rack for our luggage, but what good does that do when you have NO ELEVATOR? We saw several seniors trying to drag their suitcases up and down the stairs. Their signs are extremely confusing, with arrows pointing every which way, but upon trying to exit the building, we got down to the first floor and there were no signs at all to say where the exit was. In an emergency, this is unacceptable. The room doors don't close unless you really yank them shut. There is no freezer in the fridge. The shower was VERY slippery. How hard would it be to put non-skid strips in???? DANGEROUS! Only warm water in the shower at 10 at night. 2 sinks, but only 1 had built-in soap dispenser, so what good is the other one? The ice machine was unplugged so we couldn't get any ice, which we needed since there was no freezer in the fridge. This property is old, and it shows. No breakfast was offered, either. For what they charge, I expect a LOT more. Including an ELEVATOR!!!

The grounds around the hotel down towards the river had great asking paths and historic old houses to explore Long walk however from check in to our room and only stairs, no elevator to second floor. On site cafe was very good for dinner, but no breakfast Small coffee shop by check in desk did have lattes for sale and breakfast sandwiches which both were over priced and not very good

Over all, great stay. The only thing, there was leftover hair in the bathroom from the previous guest. :( Also, needs blackout blinds. The crack about the blinds let light through.

View was nice of the dam. But the room and hall had a lingering cigarette smell, and the bathroom smelled like mildew. Id stay again if i had to but for the price you can find better.

Our room had ants in it. When I told the desk clerk about it at check out her response was oh well they're in a lot of the rooms this building and the whole town of Dallas is built on sand and everyone has ants in the Dalles. I worked as a maintenance engineer for 20 years for a 300 bed hospital. We contracted a pest control company that did routine spraying all around the outside of the building and when there was some kind of a problem inside of the building, we called them and they came out and took care of it right away. There's no excuse for ants in your building, except for?????

They were short staffed so we couldn’t check-in. They said they would call and no call. Customer service was poor and bathroom was dirty with hair everywhere. There was a bag chips broken up in front of the door.

Toilet didn’t work. Halls filthy.

The room was clean and spacious. I liked the set up of the room, 2 sinks room to spread out and a comfortablebed. The stafff was friendly and pleasant. I would definitely refer it to a friend.

No carpet to dampen the sound so I Hurd the person above me walking most of the night. Second no drapes just whit blinds covering the window so the lights from the parking lot shined right through the window

It's a recently renovated hotel, which consists of four buildings connected by walkways and stairs. No elevators but they will offer to bring your luggage upstairs for you. No free breakfast anymore since the new management took over, which was disappointing for the price I paid ($160). The rooms are nice enough, minimal and spare but clean and comfortable. I was on the highway side which was noisy.

The good: rooms were clean, plenty of parking, good view of the dam and sunrise, great blackout curtains, ac worked (though noisily), room had a mini fridge and microwave, coffee maker and a few pods. Very kid friendly place - we didn’t get try the pool because it was too cold for our liking but we saw several families out there for a bit. There’s a few really nice looking fire pits with chairs all around and a grill to use as well. The bad: our room was right next to a hallway door and all night long it was very loudly slamming shut from other guests, waking us up repeatedly. A slow close door is a simple fix that would’ve made our stay a solid 5 stars! Our bathroom fan didn’t work. Definitely not a huge issue but when staying in a small room with 4 people, it’s noticeable when its not there. There is no elevator and they had no ground floor rooms available, even for a disabled guest checking in before us. Check in was sloooooow. One person working for a 4pm check in is just not enough. Overall our stay was fairly pleasant and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again for the price we paid.

I would not recommend staying here. The hotel attempted some updates and improvements - but it falls short The rooms are not inviting or warm - the views are terrible (see photo). The rooms and hallway are noisy. The A/C is very loud even on low (see video) and if you then it of so you can sleep then the room gets warm and you still can’t sleep. The room is poorly lit as well. The layout of the hotel with the stairs is very poorly designed. The hotel want even fully booked and they have me a room as far as away from everything as possible and it wasn’t so I could have the nice view. They don’t appear to like to answer their front desk phone, as it rings for a while until you get a person. The staff wasn’t rude, but they also were not friendly. The outdoor hallways/stairwells are very dirty and smelly. The ice machine did not work and the door to the room hallways woodland not fully close - therefore losing the security aspect of the inside doors along with the need for a key - anyone could have gotten in. Also the sink faucet only turned all the way off if you forced it. And unfortunately my phone and watch did not charge during the night because the outlets in the lamp did not work. This was very annoying mainly for my watch not getting charged (my phone I can easily charge in the car.) I would not recommend staying here nor would I stay here again. For the price I expected much better and was very disappointed.

The beds were quite comfortable.

We had a nice view of the dam. Very friendly front desk personnel. Very comfortable bed but very noisy heater.

Staff was very attentive and went above and beyond. Room was very large and accommodating. The restaurant staff was very helpful and the food was very good. We could not use the pool due to weather but it looked inviting and clean. Plenty of parking and a quiet location on the edge of town. Will stay here again on our next visit.

Property is a little tired. Staffing is marginal.

We were told that breakfast was available in the mornings, and we were also told that a Coffee place “Wasco” would also be available in the mornings. Neither were available when we came down at 7:30 am. I tried to ask, but nobody was available at the desk. When I return to my room, I messaged as a reply to a message that I received from the front desk asking for room service. I received a reply that they would be with me shortly. 10 minutes later, I received another reply, saying they would be with me shortly. To this day, I have not received a reply back. When I wanted to complain, it asked if I wanted to receive a call back, you can see in the picture that I sent asking for a callback, but never received one. The bathtub was dirty and so was the toilet. The best part about the room was the bed. The amount that I spent for two nights was way more than what I received.

It was pretty disappointing. I called the day before to see if I could get early check in because we were going to a memorial. She said they were pretty understaffed and I understood. When we got there, we couldn’t check in early so I changed in the public bathroom. When we returned from the memorial at 4:30, we couldn’t get in our room because they were shortstaffed. We weren’t able to get into our room until 630 when we did the TV didn’t work. We also were unable to get two keys because they didn’t have enough keys to give us to. While the room was clean there just isn’t enough staff to keep this running smoothly.

We had a nice room overlooking the dam. Parking was easy. When we entered the room, the air condition was on, making it nice and cool for sleep. Coffee was free in the morning before we took off for a 2-hour drive. The staff were friendly both in the morning and in the evening when we checked in. The lobby was comfortable and welcoming. The linens were good and the blinds were sun blocking for sleeping in.

The hotel itself was fine . No elevator and the rooms were a long way from the front desk . The restaurant staff was awesome ! The views were beautiful, the rooms were nice ! The staff at the front desk made me feel unwanted and belittled me . If we weren’t here on business and it was vacation I would be super sad they talked to me that way when I was paying my money to stay there !! Hateful ladies ! All of them !

Room was very clean and comfortable. I had shampoo but no bathing soap. I made do, so it wasn't that hard to get by. The big issue I had was that I went to take a walk on the trail towards the water and stumbled onto a homeless tent. I ran back to the room and didn't feel safe enough to get out and stretch my legs. Yikes!!!

The view to the river is amazing, peaceful.

Unfortunately, this stay was noisy due to the Columbia River dam right outside the hotel. Other than that, the stay was very nice.

Great staff. Old property has been mostly renovated. Very noisy from interstate and trains. Beautiful views of the dam in back.

We were there to celebrate my oldest child's graduation. It was a nice trip and not far from the Mary Hill Stonehenge and museum. I loved the view from our room! It was so nice to be able to sit on the deck and watch the river and look at the dam! So many types of birds to watch as well! The staff were amazing and friendly! Unfortunately, there is no elevator and my husband has a bad knee, but he managed to hobble his way up the stairs. That was our fault for not requesting a bottom floor room. Would definitely stay there again and I have been telling my family to look into this hotel if they are ever out that way.

quite overpriced given that no breakfast comes with a pretty basic room. parking near the highway with unsavory people walking by. would not stay again-other properties offer better value

Staff was great, friendly, informative. The Portage Grill inside the hotel was excellent. The hostess seated us promptly, the bartender was our waitress (sorry I did not get her name) but she was very attentive and the drinks were excellent. She made a very good Old Fashioned!! The food was excellent, but most of all the service was top notch, only to be topped by the view of the Columbia River/The Dalles Dam! Thank you everyone for a most enjoyable 2-day stay!

The staff was awesome. They don’t have complimentary breakfast anymore and that wasn’t made clear when we reserved. They have a little breakfast cafe they just opened the prices are reasonable and the people who work here are great.

Everything was wonderful. The room was clean. The restaurant was so good, reasonably priced and very nice staff. The hotel was very quiet which was really nice. The tv was interesting but once we figured it out it was ok. We would have really liked it if the restaurant had been open for breakfast.

In multiple locations, a full continental breakfast was mentioned as having been included. It was a huge disappointment to learn that it was no longer an option under the new ownership. We only book hotels with breakfast included due to the rising cost of literally everything. Had I known, I would not have chosen this hotel.
