Room was beautifully decorated and very clean. However we stayed in the stable block and there were tables and chairs outside our room for people to have drinks from the bar. This was very annoying as they were right outside our window so we could hear them and we had to draw the curtains for privacy which left us having to turn the lights on during the day. Perhaps adding a light blind might be a solution or move the tables away? Also staff very friendly but waitress forgot our drinks twice

The hotel was absolutely beautiful and clean, the rooms being themed were abit of a surprise but that just added to the character. Breakfast was lovely and a good choice for all. Parking is handy, through quite a narrow entrance and is a bit ‘potholey’ but nothing you can’t navigate. Not many shops around the area but there is a coop food a few doors away and plenty in nearby Wallingford to keep you supplied. The only thing I will say is if you have the four poster bed and you’re remotely clumsy, watch your knees on the edge of the bed!

The room was really nice and set out well with plenty of decoration, lighting and photos/images of interest. The George is a really old hotel and has the atmosphere to match. Friendly bar staff and good breakfast. Ample parking to rear off the main road.

Love the renovations to this historic old hotel. Our room was handicap accessible and very comfy. Nice amenities, friendly staff, easy parking and locals at bar! What more could you want! Oh - how about delicious food!

The room was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and had everything we needed. It even had a couple of games and a book in the room. Pillows were a little on the hard side, but the bed was very comfortable. Considering we had a room overlooking the main road, it wasn't noisy at all. Staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was good.

The village and location are superb. Very convenient for visiting so many wonderful places. The room was spotless clean, albeit small and hot. Unfortunately front of house were disinterested, did not engage, 3 times I had to ask for table service. Table clearing was last minute. Stunning outside, spoilt by dirty tables, floor and overflowing ashtrays! My trade is hospitality, and maybe I’m aware, but my husband and I felt that the staff needed training, tm meet the criteria of what is trying to be boutique hotel and restaurant. The waitresses lacked the skills of a professional set up. The person that shone was Ace.

My experience at the George Hotel was interesting. My room, the James Bond Room, was large (verging on very large and nicely equipped. The housekeeping could have been better with cobwebs hanging on the window frames. The staff were very young and quite inexperienced and I’m not keen on establishments that don’t take cash. The bar prices were eye wateringly high for a ‘coaching inn’. I didn’t eat at the George as I had a family dinner arranged elsewhere. I was pleased as the menu, in the main, offer the standard pub dishes which I thought was a disappointment. I’m so bored of fish and chips, burgers etc. Breakfast was good, reasonably quick and a nice selection. An appetising fresh fruit cocktail on offer. I would stay at the George Hotel again despite my misgivings on plastic payments and the menu.

Really helpful, professional and friendly staff. Great room well equipped and comfortable. I slept well. I had room with beamed ceilings which are notoriously difficult to keep clean and cobweb free, but the house keeping did a great job! Lots of parking with no issues. What a wonderful stay! The room was gorgeous looking out over the abbey and had a great shower. Bed was really comfortable and room was beautifully decorated. Had a great time wandering around the village and along the riverbank before dinner. Bar and restaurant were also beautifully decorated and the food was excellent. Breakfast was so good we couldn’t eat at lunchtime as we were still full. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A perfect stay and we will return! Thank you.

Lovely room, a huge space with a large bed and a seating area. Pointless feature bath, for the Tik Tok generation to post about. A real downer was first the TV stopped working and then no heating at all for the second night. It was freezing as you would expect in a vast room with 18in thick walls. Turns out a fuse popped in another room! Bar area was ok, breakfast adequate but limited choice.

Very good stay. Laura on front desk was very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely return and highly recommend to others. The only negative was the soundproofing in bedroom, we could hear everything from next door room.

At about 6:30 we went to the bar for a drink and to book a table for dinner only to be told that they could not accommodate us as they did not have enough cutlery! So we took our custom to the Fleur de Lys down the road where the staff were extremely friendly and the food was good.

10 out of 10 from me, great food, beers, wine. Lovely themed rooms. Friendly staff. Dorchester is a lovely village with a large Abbey. I was waited on by Josh, Saskia and Kirsty. They are goos ambassadors for the company and deserve a golf day out.

The staff were al very friendly and helpful they also helped set up a surprise birthday get together for my husbands 70th, even cooked meals for all of us even though the kitchen wasn't normally open at the time I wanted, they all went above and beyond. The rooms are stunning , very clean and well set out with extra touches

The staff are very friendly, the rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast cooked options are delicious. The George is very homely and welcoming. This is my preferred hotel when visiting the Oxford/Reading area. There are a couple of pleasant walking trails along The Thames nearby.

My review may not seem too favourable but I'm thinking this was a one off because I stayed here last month and it was a much better experience. I have also booked to stay here again next month. The staff were brilliant but run off their feet because there were only three serving and the bar and restaurant were busy. It was the hotels first birthday so perhaps that was the reason for being busy / staff shortage. To start with, I had to wait 10 minutes to check in. I was then given the wrong room key and sent to a room on the street. I knew it wasn't right and was then given the right key. Restaurant service was stretched but the waitresses deserve a medal for running round like the proverbial blue 'ar' flies and trying to fulfill the demand. Annoying - there was a guy in the bar tormenting his dog with a balloon which made it bark loudly. Judging by the faces of the customers, only he thought this was funny. The correct bedroom was lovely and the hotel is great, that is why I chose to come here.

Saskia (General Manager) is doing a great job at the George. I always receive a great, friendly welcome and am well looked after during my stay. The rest of the staff are great too. I continue to return here which is testament to the hotel when there are so many others I can choose from.

Nice hotel. Originally an old coaching inn.Helpful and friendly staff. Food was good and reasonable selection. The room was clean and comfortable. Only downside was the public transport. Long walk for bus into Oxford which is not a car friendly city. Park and ride an option.We bussed in but got a taxi back for £30 Ish. Despite this we would recommend.

Lovely historical hotel opposite Dorchester Abbey. Recent refurb to a high standard. Bizarre how Google calls this a 2* hotel. I would say pushing 4*. Our room 204 had view of Abbey out the front window and the little ‘secret garden’ out the back. Staff all very efficient given the no. of guests. Good food and service at both dinner and breakfast. Dorchester is beautiful- so many thatched cottages down every side street and tons of wisteria!

Excellent competitively priced hotel, only 15 mins from Oxford. Ideal for business trips. Plenty of easy parking, and Dorchester on Thames is a quiet little town with very little traffic noise after rush hour.

The staff are very friendly, the rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast cooked options are delicious. The George is very homely and welcoming. This is my preferred hotel when visiting the Oxford/Reading area. There are a couple of pleasant walking trails along The Thames nearby.

A real downer was first the TV stopped working and then no heating at all for the second night. It was freezing as you would expect in a vast room with 18in thick walls. Turns out a fuse popped in another room! Bar area was ok, breakfast adequate but limited choice.

First time visit to this fabulous hotel, everything was exceptional about our one night stay. The hotel itself is pristine, very clean and exquisitely decorated with stylish furnishings and fittings. The staff are very friendly, especially Elizabeth, the General Manager. Our room was the Henley Regatta Room, a superior double room. It was more than superior, it was breath-taking. The room had clearly been recently refurbished (as had all rooms I understand), very clean, exceptionally well furnished and decorated. The huge bed was very, very comfortable. The bar was very welcoming, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was also faultless and delicious. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, booking is highly advised, nearly every table was in use. The menu items were traditional pub grub type cuisine, which was satisfactory, but not exceptional. Saying that, I would eat in the restaurant again and I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Lovely location, room was fine but too hot - found the towel heater in the bathroom was scalding hot. Turned it off ok eventually. Food was fine but IMO not worth the price - £25 for a pint of beer & a "dish" pie-of-the-day, chips and a few wilted leaves was not what I call a sensible price. Would have been ok at £15 perhaps.

Lovely pretty hotel with nice rooms. Lovely bathroom and good size comfortable bed. Room was a bit small. The only disappointment was the Dinner menu which was very limited and only served til 9pm with no room service and no take aways in the area or even other restaurants. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.

Superb stay in superior room, lovely meal in the restaurant. Cannot fault anything. Minor fault was outside had a lot of cobwebs, mainly away from property. Didn’t impact on our stay but others may have more of a problem with it.
