We have stayed at Kilhey Court on several occasions and always have an enjoyable break. The hotel is a little jaded in places but is perfectly acceptable for the price, and is always clean. The pool is not currently open but steps are being taken to reopen it when possible. What really makes this place stand out is the fabulous staff who work so hard to make your visit a good one, and always with a smile on their faces and a friendly word.

The hotel bar was very busy due to the number of people staying at the hotel the weekend. The bar had run out of Brandy, vodka and Guiness. The staff worked very hard and very polite and courteous although the hotel seemed to be short on staff.

Having stayed at Kilhey Court many times in the past (a long time ago now) we thought that we knew what to expect. Reception/bar and our room were excellent. Unfortunately the spa has been closed and there are just a few signs of lack of investment (leaking roof on the stained glass atrium, tiles missing from the spa roof). If we had never stayed at the hotel during it’s hey day we may not have noticed these things but it is sad to see, and we hope that these small signs are not the beginning of the decline.

Staff from reception/housekeeping to the maintenance man Jack, all exceptional. Hotel definitely not 4 star. Very tired, rooms in annexe long walk and had to go outside to get to. Room clean, very poor shower no pressure at all. Bathroom very dated. Windows not double glazed and dirty in the sills. Walls in rooms paper thin, could hear everything. 1st night next to a noisey family, 2nd night very loud snorer another night a barking pet, then last night of a 6 night stay another noisey family!! Hotel seems very large don't understand the policy of placing solo travellers on an extended stay next to families/pets. Booked for the use of the gym facility. Very long walk up and down stairs, corridors. Felt like a workout before I even got there! Gym equipment/machines very good however gym totally neglected.. no water machine working, air conditioning not working, no paper towels, spiders and cobwebs on all windows (inside) no toilets (would have to go back to the room). I felt very isolated and vulnerable as a women using the gym as it was so out of the way and even though it had a security camera did not feel safe so only used it once. Would say 3 star. Would give all staff 5 stars

This is a beautiful building, the blurb says it’s recently undergone renovation…. Not sure where, it’s tired, we had a Deluxe King Room, there was a good tea tray when we found it, a big metal tray with two water glasses but no water, there was only one bedside table not two, no useable plugs near the bed and no light over the mirror in the bedroom. The bathroom was clean but tired and the water pressure was poor. When we checked in the lovely lady asked us to fill in the forms with pencil as they didn’t have any pens?!? The hotel bar wasn’t well stocked and lacked and snacks like crisps or nuts, if you order a cup of tea there is no biscuit and the staff “don’t have any” they can give or sell you, apparently they used to have snacks. Not enough staff at breakfast to clear plates, you needed to wait for staff to be available to come to serve in the bar, whether time of day. If feels like a key member of staff has left and things are getting missed. It’s a shame we looked forward to a treat stay away in a nice hotel and we were disappointed.

The room they put us in had black mould all around the windows and up walls... The room was so run down it was drab and looked nothing like the pictures. It was also not in the main building and up about 7 different staircases and through so many doors when we had a baby and lots of luggage with us. Asked to changed room as I wasn't staying in the first room full of mould with a baby. They did change it but no apology or help moving.. or nothing for inconvenience. Man on reception desk at evening was very bare minimum and took all his effort to speak. Breakfast Very average... No veggie options on Sundays on cooked breakfast yet pay full price How this hotel has that many stars is beyond me. The room

Staff were friendly. I arrived quite late so didn't have much time at the hotel. Could do with a little more upkeep but that kind of thing doesn't bother me. Bedroom was at the end of a long twisty turny corridor, up and down steps etc which was fine for me but not for elderly or mobility issues. Room was cosy. My main concern was the cleanliness of the bedsheets. There were numerous marks and short hairs. I actually ended up taking the sheet off and turning it over, slightly better on the other side but far from ideal. If I had noticed it earlier, before being in my pj's and ready to fall asleep, I would have gone to reception and complained. The bed was comfy. In the morning it took ages for the shower to run hot, I was about to give up after a good 5 mins but then it finally got hot. Breakfast was great. Lots of hot food available along with continental options. Conservatory is lovely for sitting and enjoying a nice quiet breakfast. Overall enjoyed my stay, just a shame the bed cleanliness. Please improve this!

Very tired hotel that needs a lot of renovation to make it nice again. Bad smell in the corridors, walls are dirty, needs a good clean up and a lick of paint. Bathroom in my room looked like it was from the 70s. Health club not open. Breakfast is very short (7 to 9). Overall v poor 2/10

The hotel and its surroundings were truly picturesque. The rooms were spotless, and while the restaurant offered a limited selection, the overall experience was pleasant. However, one concern was the presence of dead flies on the restaurant’s window sill. Given the warm weather, this issue should have been addressed promptly to maintain cleanliness

Upon arrival the outside of the main building looks good that's were it's stops the staff are 5 star in there welcome and doing there jobs no problem there The room was very dated no plug sockets near the bed furniture very dated not in a good way Bathroom absolutely disgusting paint peeling of the ceiling bathroom was some thing out the 70s not in a good way very poor condition No WiFi in room at all again in this day is a standard thing Carpets very dated needs new one or a very deep clean at least made me feel ill being in the room such low standard I had a evening meal that was sent back twice as under cooked in parts meat was rough didn't even get correct meal at the same time Beer was off tasted disgusting I was up being sick all last night The breakfast was so bad I sent it back As over cooked how you can cook a breakfast wrong is a serious concern The buildings are in such bad repair it doesn't match what you see on the website Now I understand why the rooms are cheap Even the staff agreed with what I said to them they were so kind and friendly It's a shame at the hole venue could be made 5 star and above very easy the lack of money that hasn't been spent is shown Should be a amazing place to stay at best it's 2/ 10 at moment I could very easily renovate the venue to achieve 5 star and above As we are working in local areas on several big developments But I wouldn't put my team members in there as is

We have booked two nights at this hotel two adults and two childrens We could not stayed the second night because of the condition of the room it was smelly and very old. We had to leave. And we couldn't get the refund for the second night. I would not recommend this hotel to any one.its too far and smells and too old

A nice enough hotel let down by noisy residents. My room overlooked the front entrance and people were out there all night smoking and talking so audibly that I couldn’t get to sleep. My partner‘s bedroom, which was at the back of the hotel had constant footfall in the corridor, again from noisy residents who had obviously been on a night out.

Staff were friendly but the hotel itself needs some serious TLC. Our room was in an annex, cold, dark & shabby. The worst experience about our stay was the noise from both neighbouring rooms with guests talking, laughing, banging about until 5am, making it very difficult to sleep. I have never stayed in a hotel where the bedroom walls are so thin, you can hear everything in the next room. I am actually deaf, wear hearing aids and i could still hear the noise they were making at such a late hour! To add to this unpleasant stay, was the strong smell off weed in the hallway which seeped into our bedroom, even in the morning. The hotel bedroom didnt have a telephone so we were unable to report this disrespectful and antisocial behavior to the reception. Certainty won't be staying here again or recommending to others!

This is a beautiful building, the blurb says it’s recently undergone renovation…. Not sure where, it’s tired, we had a Deluxe King Room, there was a good tea tray when we found it, a big metal tray with two water glasses but no water, there was only one bedside table not two, no useable plugs near the bed and no light over the mirror in the bedroom. The bathroom was clean but tired and the water pressure was poor. When we checked in the lovely lady asked us to fill in the forms with pencil as they didn’t have any pens?!? The hotel bar wasn’t well stocked and lacked and snacks like crisps or nuts, if you order a cup of tea there is no biscuit and the staff “don’t have any” they can give or sell you, apparently they used to have snacks. Not enough staff at breakfast to clear plates, you needed to wait for staff to be available to come to serve in the bar, whether time of day. If feels like a key member of staff has left and things are getting missed. It’s a shame we looked forward to a treat stay away in a nice hotel and we were disappointed.

The junior suite was not what the picture showed at all for bedroom suite we would of been better off in normal double room . So dated & not very clean in corners of room cobwebs around bed too Linen was spotless .Not even tissues in your bathroom or room at All Never seen such dated bathroom before in a macdonald Hotel Restaurant menu choice of two or three items very poor & no wine List except a choice of house by glass . disappointing stay . We have stayed at Kilhey Court on several occasions and always have an enjoyable break. The hotel is a little jaded in places but is perfectly acceptable for the price, and is always clean. The pool is not currently open but steps are being taken to reopen it when possible. What really makes this place stand out is the fabulous staff who work so hard to make your visit a good one, and always with a smile on their faces and a friendly word.

Lovely comfy room in the main building. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beautiful surroundings. Dinner was good but the only downside was the scrambled eggs were very cool on arrival to my table at breakfast. But I’ve stayed here before and would stay again.

The hotel bar was very busy due to the number of people staying at the hotel the weekend. The bar had run out of Brandy, vodka and Guiness. The staff worked very hard and very polite and courteous although the hotel seemed to be short on staff.

The staff at this property were outstanding - every single one of them from the minute we walked through the door - advising us on where we could get our sons laundry done(he was in the middle of a lands end to John o groats bike ride) they even set up the gardeners hose for him to clean his bike. The whole experience was amazing - we ended up booking our son another night so he could recover before the rest of his journey. Thanks to everyone!!!

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel, which I had looked forward to. We specifically booked a "Standard Double Bed," but upon arrival, we were given a twin bed. When we raised this issue, we were told it was "Hotels.com" fault due to a miscommunication indicating "twin" rather than "deluxe." Additionally, the breakfast was of very poor quality, and the service was lacking. Even after multiple requests, the coffee we asked for upon our arrival at breakfast was only brought to us after we had finished eating. Overall, I would rate my experience a 2/10. The bedrooms were comfortable but the waiters let the side down with their reluctance to serve us the breakfast we asked for. The Saturday staff were very efficient and courteous but the Sunday shift were altogether different. They claimed they were extremely busy when the hotel was far from full and not catering for wedding parties. We had been waiting thirty minutes for our food to be told that they had not taken our order which was standard fare to the menu. It took a further fifteen minutes to receive our order without any accoutrements to the basic dish. This hotel is one of our favourites and we have never had cause for complaint before. Moreover we respect the staff there and have come to know many of them on a personal basis. So we felt very let down by our experience this time.

The staff are so friendly and helpful it made our stay good. Hotel needs an upgrade as it is not in line with 3 star Breakfast was cold, which was disappointing as I’m sure if it had been served hot it would have been very good.

Often you could not find anyone on the staff. Front desk usually empty. Room could have had a small fridge, microwave and the safe that was provided should have been securely mounted so someone couldn't just pick it up and walk away with it! The atmosphere was very nice, food was good, but ran out some things one day. Employees were very nice and helpful if you could find one.

Very quiet location. Away from houses and shops. Landscaped gardens, lovely scene to wake up to. Quite old main building but lots of later additions including breakfast room which is a large conservatory. All the staff were so friendly. I know it has only recently reopened and I hope people will choose to stay. You need a car really, a few miles from town. We enjoyed staying, high points water machine near room with still and sparkling..better than 1 bottle!! Full cooked breakfast included and nice little lounge with bar. Downside…stairs if you have mobility issues..high step to get in front door and at present no evening food…but great pub nearby!!

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with a reservoir walk behind. The man at check in didn’t have much to say, we had a room in the annex which was clean but a little tired, the shower was poor but the bed was comfortable. The lady on reception at check out was really friendly. I would stay there again but would request a room in the main hotel. P.s The white crow a mile down the road does good food

Extremely average hotel. Could be nice, solid Victorian building but beautiful fireplaces not lit (on freezing night with snow) and minimal attention to detail and comfort. Deluxe room very basic, get more in a Premier Inn - but bed was comfortable. Nice dining room but no dinner served and disgusting self-serve breakfast. Cannot recommend, disappointing.

They talked about women and weren’t very complimentary about them either! Staff were lovely and we felt sorry for the young waiter who had to apologise a lot! Mixed messages about a guide dog n training being allowed in the restaurant.

I love staying here and always come however after the closure of the hotel. I've returned and I feel the whole experience has became less superior. Staff and service fabulous as always. However breakfast was extremely disappointing. Half the breakfast items for a full English weren't available, no porridge etc. The bedroom itself very comfortable and a good night sleep. Also the spa facilities aren't currently available and is a huge miss. However I would stay here again but I would love to see the breakfast become much nicer as it was prior.
