We got married here nearly 25 years ago - it was lovely to return and still feel it was the same hotel - everything the same but refreshed and not outdated at all. Rooms quiet and comfortable, bar welcoming and breakfast was fantastic

It was ok for price. I was disappointed about the fact that we had to book and pay for spa separately even though this hotel is spa hotel. Usually I expect spa is attached to a price I pay initially. The quality of spa was not brilliant.

Stayed here quite a few times, Beautiful hotel. Excellent spa. Also handy as a base for Great Yorkshire Show., Knaresborough and Wetherby. We are usually accommodated upstairs, but this time we were in a small room downstairs. Bit cramped but standard still good, Minor negatives: insufficient tea bags even after we requested more; no replacement liner in the bathroom bin. Wonderful ambience in the Courtyard restaurant. The carvery was okay but the fish alternative and vegetables weren't warm. Enjoyed a La Carte on second evening much more. Always an excellent choice for breakfast. Bar well stocked, but suggest attention is paid to glass washing as on both evenings my drink was served in dirty glasses so had to return. All staff were lovely - polite and friendly. service with a smile. Will be returning.

Booked this hotel for use of the spa, that was the whole point of staying here. The hotel staff never once reached out to notify their spa was closed for maintenance during our stay. We weren’t told until we asked about using it. On top of that the price of our stay was not reduced or compensated for the hotel amenities not being usuable. Really put a damper on our engagement trip.

I was expecting a gym, but I got a treadmill with a slipping tread, a cross-trainer that was warped and a broken bike. Then they wanted £25 for a steam and sauna!!!! I wouldn’t have booked if I’d have known

Hot tub wasn't hot and eucalyptus steam room didn't smell like eucalyptus. Bed was too soft so woke with bad back and then house keeping just walked in room without knocking. Nice enough place but wouldn't stay again

When you’re cutlery sticks to the breakfast table you know you’ve booked the wrong hotel, this is said to be 4Star but needs reviewed! In general a really nice frontage but underneath needs a revamp, old tables that have little to none of the original surface or bring wiped with incorrect solutions, juice glasses that have seen the end of their days and generally not the cleanest of cutlery, breakfast was good. Room was nice but look closer and it’s an old throw on a couch and even it needed washing, bathroom, not the greatest seat I’ve had, and a really nice mirror spoiled by the tarnished corrosion on the chrome fittings, and if it’s room 29 take stepladders to hang up your clothes, it must have been a giant that fitted that clothes rail! I won’t be back.

Hotel very tired. Carpets smelt bad - gym locker rooms spring to mind. Bathroom in room stank of mould and had black mould around rim of bath. Bed so soft that it dipped heavily in middle. Did not stay as aromas so unpleasant. Staff member on duty was charming and full refund received. It was an expensive hotel for what it was. Uninviting.

We stayed only one evening. Young woman on reception was friendly and smiley. Ordinary double room was very clean with a lovely soft comfy bed. We had the carvery in the evening which was wonderful. Amazing value for money. Breakfast was delicious with friendly helpful staff. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Our thanks to all staff for a happy stay.

The Hotel was bright and spacious and apparently well maintained. It had a mix of the modern but also some traditional wooden panelling in the Bar. Our room was clean, tidy and very comfortable and the toilet was spacious and well set out. The Staff were pleasant and helpful and we enjoyed an excellent and substantial dinner on our one and only evening in the Hotel. The next morning we had a very nice breakfast which included buffets for both hot and cold food - again plenty choice. We felt considering what had been on offer the meals were very good value. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back some day.

Staff were attentive and did offer to warm my dinner up. Think the chef could tske actions to improve food by cooking vegetables in smaller amounts to maintain freshness. Dining toom rather chilly.

Easy and convenient for one night on route to Scotland. The staff are friendly and welcoming and checking in was quick and easy. The room was clean but the television didn’t work. When arriving at 22.00 on a Sunday didn’t think it was worth looking into. But did say on checking out. Breakfast was good and again staff very helpful.

I had notified the hotel by email and telephone that I would be arriving late, but when I arrived the door was locked and I had not received any instructions on how to get in. Fortunately, I still had the telephone number on my phone and the night manager let me in quickly. I feel that a clear instruction would have avoided the brief concern of not being able to enter.

Room was really small with way to much big furniture. It had a sloping roof which made it even smaller. Window overlooked a tree. Place as a whole was just so old fashioned and the food was very mediocre. Reception lady was lovely but restaurant staff just lacked any warmth

Arrived 16th July – Departed 20th July – 4 nights stay. 1st night:- There was a constant humming/vibration noise in our room, no. 15. At 22.30 hrs I went down to reception and complained. The person I spoke to said it had something to do with the boilers and that it would go off shortly. It didn’t go off until 23.30 hrs and came back on at 06.00 hrs the next day. Went down to reception and asked them to move us because of the noise. This they did without hesitation. 2nd night:- We were moved to room 20, far away from the original noise/vibration. However, after 22.00 hrs that night we periodically had a tapping / scrapping noise emanating from the water pipes running through our room. This noise started on and off 4 times through the night. 3rd & 4Th nights we were again disturbed by the same problem from the pipes. Did not have one good night’s sleep the whole stay. Also, the one light in the bathroom was so dim, that it wasn’t possible to shave properly and the extraction fan didn’t work either.

Hotel looked lovely but the beds were really lumpy and the bottom sheet wasn't fitted and wasn't large enough to tuck under the mattress so came off when we were sleeping. The carvery was lovely in the evening. The breakfast was fairly standard buffet choice but I would have liked more choice of fresh fruit. Staff were friendly.

The receptionist was rude. Charged £30 per do per night which wasnt clear on hotels.com at all. The room was tiny and hot with sloping ceilings which we kpt bamging our heads on. No milk for drinks or drinking glasses. The beds were very uncomfortable and so were the pillows. Would not recommend staying here at all.

We got married here nearly 25 years ago - it was lovely to return and still feel it was the same hotel - everything the same but refreshed and not outdated at all. Rooms quiet and comfortable, bar welcoming and breakfast was fantastic

Property is handy for travellers on the A1M north or south. Breakfast for those not wanting a cooked one is a little below par. The toasting machine fails to deliver anything other extremely well done toast (burnt toast). Two visits & two less than enjoyable breakfasts.

The hotel was in an ideal location for York, Harrogate and the start of the Dale's. In my opinion the food was not up to scratch for a 4Star Hotel, not very hot and veg were very watery. Staff were lovely.

Easy and convenient for one night on route to Scotland. The staff are friendly and welcoming and checking in was quick and easy. The room was clean but the television didn’t work. When arriving at 22.00 on a Sunday didn’t think it was worth looking into. But did say on checking out. Breakfast was good and again staff very helpful.

Lovely building in great condition and a really beautiful Victorian style courtyard which would be amazing in summer. Room are fine but could do with a refresh. The bathroom light was really dim and therefore felt a bit budget. Restaurant is very nice and the carvery was good as was breakfast. I would happily stay again

The Hotel was bright and spacious and apparently well maintained. It had a mix of the modern but also some traditional wooden panelling in the Bar. Our room was clean, tidy and very comfortable and the toilet was spacious and well set out. The Staff were pleasant and helpful and we enjoyed an excellent and substantial dinner on our one and only evening in the Hotel. The next morning we had a very nice breakfast which included buffets for both hot and cold food - again plenty choice. We felt considering what had been on offer the meals were very good value. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back some day.

Very helpful signs to hotel after leaving motorway. Easy parking. Comfortable beds and pillows. Sloping ceiling in part of bedroom hazardous for taller people. Bedside lights awkward to reach once in bed. Tea tray a challenge to find and get out from floor level. Very hospitable staff and enjoyable dinner from carvery.
