A very pleasant overnight stay. The staff were most friendly and helpful, even allowing us to sit in the garden room to eat our takeaway as there was no evening main menu. Breakfast was excellent. The drawback for me was that the bed was too hard and too short.

The room was fine but let down by the poor shower. Staff were exceptional, breakfasts very good. No restaurant facilities for lunch or evening meals. Hot snacks were available. The staff made it an enjoyable experience.

A lovely old house, so creaking floorboards and no lift but that just goes with the character of the property. Very friendly and efficient staff, very clean, excellent breakfast, very good 'light bites' food in bar which was all we needed in the evening (restaurants about 10 mins walk away). My bed could have done with a new mattress but in any event I slept like a log so can't complain too much about that.

Stayed one night here and it was lovely. The building is beautifully decorated and is clearly looked after by the owners. Our room was bright and decorated in keeping with the age of the building. We had a drink in the bar and sat in the living area which was very nice. Breakfast the next morning was freshly cooked and plentiful. The staff are lovely and would definitely stay again if we were back in the area.

Enjoyed my 2 nights BnB fri/sat- enjoyable breakfast and a choice of, clean tidy lounge breakfast orangery bar rooms, bedroom was pleasant clean comfortable, (the bed I didn’t want to leave it behind), Staff were young pleasant helpful and manage the Old Rectory very well, I certainly will rebook to stay here….

We couldn’t fault the staff however the property needs some work. Our room was small, mattress uncomfortable, shower was filthy with mould around the metalwork. The room was ‘cleaned’ twice when we were there however the duvet was just thrown over and but the comforter etc were dumped at the end of the bed. Room wasn’t hoovered and bathroom not cleaned as there was talc left on the glass shelf from the night before. It’s a shame as the hotel could be wonderful but needs money spending on it. As for the breakfast menu! Still mentioning Covid and how you have to order everything in one go. Certainly won’t be returning.

Really liked the hotel architecture and grounds. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast options for vegans. Quiet and comfortable setting. Some of the furniture in the room could do with an upgrade as some tired and stained. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner around taps and shower basin.

The hotel grounds are quite nice with a nice terrace to the rear with a pleasant garden view. The hotel itself is quite striking. Down side for us was the room had a view of an iron fire escape, and the working yard. Possibly I had booked a twin room due to my wife's recent hip operation, and so doubles may have far better views. Room was rather tired, but clean. Plus side is they give nice biccies, water. Big plus side is the staff are really friendly, helpful, and the breakfast was excellent.

Impressive building in wooded grounds. Excellent friendly service. Stayed in four poster suite which was disappointing, tatty old furniture and tired furnishings. Shower above bath was very difficult to use. Excellent breakfast. Would recommend this hotel but not the room we stayed in.

We had a very nice short break, all the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent for choice and quality. We found that the bed mattress was quite firm and for us not comfortable (for a short break we were ok with it). The pillows though were delightful. The only other minor criticism is that the plastic trim on the shower tray/door needs renewing. This is a well run family business and we would happily recommend it to others.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Old Rectory. We were given an upgrade, which was a nice surprise, so we had a very grand room with a very comfortable.four poster bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The lounge and bar were attractively decorated and inviting. We wished the weather had been better so we could have enjoyed the garden.

We had an amazing stay at The Old rectory. The staff were so friendly on arrival. I had to leave for a meet up before breakfast was due to start, and so they made me a breakfast sandwich to take with me so that I didn't miss out. It was really exceptional service. The bedroom was cosy and was perfect for our needs. The only downside was that the floorboards creaked loudly whenever we walked around the room, and the bathroom/shower could do with updating. Otherwise I would highly recommend the old rectory for anyone staying in Wem.

Wonderfully friendly, helpful staff. A spacious bedroom, quiet and well equipped. The only blip was the dated bathroom. Painted chips to the bath and the ‘gold’ rubbed off the taps etc.

The staff were truly amazing from first welcome to checkout. Room was stunning as was the hotel in general. Lovely grounds etc Breakfast was really good. Proper old school, quality products served hot! Unlike most hotels buffet or not So much attention to detail Special mention to the young lady on Saturday night who also did breakfast. She was so charming and professional Would reccone staying here. Many thanks

The member of staff on reception is excellent. She moves around from reception to bar to restaurant and is very efficient - she is a credit to the hotel!

We had a really lovely weekend at the Old Rectory. Large room, quiet and warm. Breakfast was excellent. All the staff were really nice. A mix up with the booking was dealt with very efficiently by the person on the desk (Natalie, I think). She sorted everything out and we were made to feel very welcome. Easy walk into the town, which has an Indian restaurant, other takeaways and a few pubs with food and beer.

The Old Rectory provides several sitting rooms in which you can relax and read or chat with others. This is a very nice amenity, particularly if your travel companion wants to sleep while you are up or vice versa. Our room was comfortable, if a little tight, and very clean. Staff members were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and well prepared, One issue is that The Old Rectory is not actually in Shrewsbury. It is 10 miles away from Shrewsbury in the very small town of Wem. The fault may lie with me for not having realized that when I booked, but others should be aware that this venue is not in walking distance of Shrewsbury or even Whitchurch.

We have stayed a number of times. The rooms are comfortable, the staff always very pleasant & welcoming. A really good breakfast to start the day. A good location for seeing Shropshire from, park & ride for Shrewsbury is only a short drive, Attingham National Trust is also within easy reach. We look forward to returning again.

Lovely old fashioned room with a large single bed. Very comfortable bed and an ensuite shower room. All the staff were lovely and friendly and breakfast was delicious. I booked the hotel to use as a base to attend 3 race meetings. Cheltenham on the way up, Liverpool on day 2 and nearby Bangor-on-Dee on day 3. It worked out perfectly and I was even able to visit Wrexham as well, so no complaints from me.

5 star is a must for this place. Room was homely, warm and good sized. Breakfast was superb. The staff were especially helpful and courteous - even for simple things. I would recommend to all. Just a "wow!"

Really liked the hotel architecture and grounds. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast options for vegans. Quiet and comfortable setting. Some of the furniture in the room could do with an upgrade as some tired and stained. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner around taps and shower basin.

It could of been better, the bed's was very uncomfortable as the mattress was dreadful. The sandwich was stale and I am not sure what the breakfast was as it all seemed scaled down.

Hotel was wonderful. A lot of period features still in tact. Beautiful gardens & location. Bedroom & bathroom showing sighns of wear but still in keeping with the property. Bed was very creaky but comfy. Room was clean. Staff were amazing & very helpful. Had a late afternoon snack in the conservatory & it was delicious. Breakfast was plentiful & also fresh & delicious. Bar was well stocked. Only downside was no lift so my elderly parents struggled slightly getting up & down the stairs.
