Quirky hotel and very intersting. Love the bar and the library. True the stairs were steep and winding but we were warned on the website - also the tight entrance to the car park. None of this detracted from our stay - the room was comfortable and had good facilties and the staff were friendly. Would stay again but would book a first floor room

This property is well located in the centre of town with easy walking distance to the river, cafes and town sites. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner are very good. The only downside is that rooms are accessed by very steep circular stairs and the car park is accessed by a very tight driveway and limited parking spaces. There is a public car park behind that is easier to access, but Pay and Display during the day. We very much enjoyed our stay in this heritage pub and feel the warmth of the staff made it easy to see past a few drawbacks.

Property needs some tlc, very steep windy and uneven stairs to rooms - part of the period for the property, but would have appreciated this being noted somewhere. If you have more than an overnight bag to carry it’s quite a task on the stairs! Breakfast was good and staff friendly. we chose the hotel because it had free parking and EV charging. Both are true but the VB charge point was cordoned off and wasn’t available.. it was apparently reserved but this was 8.30pm at night and we hadn’t been given an option of reserving. a quick charge was all we wanted …

Very quirky and charming building stairs to access bedrooms would not be suitable for everyone. Staff on the whole were very pleasant and attentive. The entrance to the car park is quite narrow but it was great to have the option. The hotel is right on one of the main shopping streets with lots of lovely coffee shops and gift/antique shops. The breakfast was lovely with high quality ingredients.

Very enjoyable stay. Perfect location for cafes, restaurants and bars. Short walk to the river. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Parking was so handy. Very old building with uneven stairs (we were on the top floor) but we liked the character of the hotel. Shower was amazing and loved the toiletries provided. The breakfast was lovely - enjoyed fresh juice and croissants and then lots of choice for cooked breakfast too. Would return!

We very much enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Kings Head. The adventure of staying in a very old pub in the centre of town. It took us a couple of laps of the Ross High street to find the parking entrance and with some precision driving we got in to the car park down a narrow walk way. Parking is a bit limited some evenings but there is also a public parking area at the rear of this. Reception was warm friendly and helpful. Our room was at the top of 4 flights of a steep spiral staircase so the 20 kg suitcases stayed in the car. Room was very clean with views into the High street. En-suite bathroom clean a functional. Room was quiet but a bit of early morning activity could be heard in the street. The bar and dining downstairs can get busy but is worth having a couple of drinks and dinner at good prices. Breakfast was included with a hot traditional or lighter options. They certainly have excellent coffee here compared to other breakfasts I have had in the UK. Ross I a great location to explore from and has many quaint shops in the street. Overall excellent value for money.

Lovely stay overall. Good food and friendly welcome and service. Room was spacious and comfortable. Place is kept well and clean. We were on the second floor and it was a bit of a steep climb up to the room especially with a suitcase. It is an old building to be fair. It was ideally situated for the local sights.

Beautiful old building with a lovely bar/pub and restaurant (which we only used for breakfast). Staff were allvery friendly. Room was furnished very well, with a big, comfortable bed, however the duvet appeared to be two singles zipped together rather than a super kingsize and only just covered the bed. There was a fair amount of noise in the early mornings from outside (pub preparations) and the room upstairs, so I needed my earplugs. The bathroom decor was good and nice, big white towels, but the shower door wouldn't close completely, so a lot of water escaped onto the floor. Excellent location in the town centre.

Generally very nice. Lovely atmosphere in the conservatory where we had our evening meal. Serving staff very good at dinner and breakfast. Room on the top floor was very hot and fairly dark - but comfortable.

This is a very old pub so to be expected that floors are somewhat uneven, took a bit of time to get used to this. Room was at front of building,had a large, comfortable bed and nice clean bathroom. Sadly our stay was spoilt by other guests on Saturday night making lots of noise till the early hours. Breakfast was excellent with good choices, particularly catering for gluten free diet. Staff were always pleasant and helpful.

The hotel was amazing from start to finish, answered all my questions on line promptly check in was great we arrived early and it wasn't a problem room was spotless requested a fan which was in the room when we arrived. Staff friendly and helpful and breakfast was a great variety. We stayed in a family room which gave us a double room a small corridor still attached to this room bathroom then another bedroom with two single beds recommend this hotel to any one.

Small, friendly and welcoming hotel in the middle of Ross. We stayed on a Saturday and the hotel was busy but there were plenty of friendly and helpful staff so no waiting around. Cosy reception rooms and bar with a great atmosphere. My one minor gripe was our small, dark bedroom with a window looking at a neighbouring wall but it was newly decorated and comfortable - so gripe outweighed by the rest of the well-run and cosy hotel.

The staff were genuinely friendly, and keen to help with any request in a warm and intelligent way, however busy they were. The bar had good chairs for relaxing in with a book and a drink, and there was another room to sit in too. The bedroom was clean and the bed comfortable. A really excellent breakfast, with lovely croissants, or the full English, with vegetarian option. I hope I manage to stay here again!

Service from staff could be better, breakfast orders were regularly delayed, items forgotten and one day the toast was completely burnt but the scrambled eggs had been placed over the burnt food to hide it and still served to me. Very long wait to check out - the people in front of me were not happy as their room had been given to someone else - and when I was finally served I was told that I hadn’t paid for my stay and owed over £400. I had to find my booking email to prove that I had already paid. Staff member couldn’t explain why hotel account didn’t reflect my payment.

From our arrival, the staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond, making our one night stay wonderful. We had pre-booked dinner which was superb and the size of our family room was a surprise as it had a separate room for our children. This lovely old coaching inn is so convenient for Ross town centre. I love the sitting room (in winter they have a real fire). The staff are very helpful (offer to carry bags upstairs) and the good is better than excellent. This isn’t my first stay and it won't be my last.

This property is well located in the centre of town with easy walking distance to the river, cafes and town sites. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner are very good. The only downside is that rooms are accessed by very steep circular stairs and the car park is accessed by a very tight driveway and limited parking spaces. There is a public car park behind that is easier to access, but Pay and Display during the day. We very much enjoyed our stay in this heritage pub and feel the warmth of the staff made it easy to see past a few drawbacks.

Beautiful old building with a lovely bar/pub and restaurant (which we only used for breakfast). Staff were allvery friendly. Room was furnished very well, with a big, comfortable bed, however the duvet appeared to be two singles zipped together rather than a super kingsize and only just covered the bed. There was a fair amount of noise in the early mornings from outside (pub preparations) and the room upstairs, so I needed my earplugs. The bathroom decor was good and nice, big white towels, but the shower door wouldn't close completely, so a lot of water escaped onto the floor. Excellent location in the town centre.

I ordered a full English however the mushroom was tough, the scrambled eggs looked as though they had been cooked as a batch and not to order and overall the food wasn't very warm. Also I had hardly finished my cereal when it was delivered. The bacon and sausage were lovely though. I wasn't offered any jam/marmalade for my toast. The lady on Reception (we believe she was Polish) and who helped out with breakfast, was very accommodating.

The hotel being so old is definitely quirky but the breakfast was great, the evening meal we had delicious, the choice of drinks in the bar excellent and the staff just so very friendly. The location great for both the town and the river and walks. Will definitely go back

The staff were excellent. The rump stakes we had at dinner were, i think, the best I've had in many years. Our room was really quirky in as much as nothing was level except the bed. That might not be to everyone's liking but I thought it was great. Typical old building character right in heart of Ross on Wye.

The hotel is right in the heart of Ross-on-Wye. It has fantastic staff that work really hard to ensure that your stay is perfect in every way. The restaurant offers exceptional standards of food for both breakfast and evening dinners. We will definitely return again in the near future.

Nice cosy pub. Accessible car park. The pub and room has that rustic charm that I was looking for. I don't usually sleep well when working away but I had a great nights sleep. If I am working in the area again, I would certainly look to see if this place had availability first.
