Hotel Porto Mare - PortoBay

Great place to stay with nice gardens with plenty of places to relax, good dining options and great facilities.

A great stay at this lovely hotel. The bus stop is directly outside of the hotel so it is very easy to get to the town on Funchal. If you don't want to venture out there is plenty for ou to do with indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, lounging areas, bars and restaurants. The spa was lovely.

Es war ein super schönes Hotel, dass der ganzen Familie sehr gefallen hat. Es hat einen großen, schönen, gepflegten Garten im Gegensatz zu den umliegenden Touribunkern. Es gibt Außen und Innenpools die sauber und gut temperiert sind. Das Essen ist vom riesigen Frühstücksbuffet zum noch reichhaltigeren Abendbuffet mit vielen warmen und kalten Speisen sehr lecker. Das Personal ist bis auf ein zwei gestresste Ausnahmen sehr freundlich. Was uns etwas genervt hat, war, dass wir auf einen Sechsertisch für das Frühstück anstehen mussten. Meine Mutti kann nicht mehr so lange stehen. Zweier und Viererplätze gingen zügiger. Aber ansonsten gab es absolut nichts zu meckern! Wir hatten drei Junjorsweeten zum Schnäppchenpreis ergattern mit Wohn-, Schlafzimmer, Balkon mit Meer- und Gartenblick und je zwei Bädern, jedes mit Dusche, Wanne und BD und eine kleine Küchenzeile mit allen Geräten und Esstisch. Die zwei großen Flachbildschirme haben wir nicht probiert, es gab viele andere schöne Dinge zu besichtigen. Tipp: fragt die Taxifahrer v o r dem Einsteigen, was es von A nach B kostet. dann ist es günstiger ;-)

Well presented clean & comfortable hotel with good facilities - particularly the pools - and beautiful gardens overlooking the Atlantic. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice and 5-6pm Happy Hour is a winner. Overall the staff were so helpful & friendly (just don’t mess with the breakfast team!!).

Wunderschönes Resort mit guter Lage (Bushaltestelle vor Ort) mit deutlichem Defizit and Sauberkeit und Instandhaltung (Bsp: Minigolfanlage).Wir hatten Bettwanzen in unserem Bett und haben dies der Rezeption 2x gemeldet und auch mit Photos.Meine Frau,mein 1,5 Jahre alter Sohn und ich haben Bisse am ganzen Körper.Antwort an der Rezeption war: Schicken Sie uns ein Photo,wir melden es dem Management.Ich habe mir eine andere Reaktion erhofft,insbesondere bei den Übernachtungspreisen

Pool and gardens were amazing

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Spotless clean and the grounds are lush and beautiful. The big down side is the main pool,the water is so very cold. Considering the size of this pool and how pretty it is, hardly anyone swam in it, due to the cold temperature. It's an terrific waste, just to sit around it and not be able to take a dip. Many people dipped a toe in, and then just walked away.

Clean room, excellent facilities

The grounds are beautiful. The breakfast and dinner buffet was delicious. You get a really good deal with this resort. The rugs and indoor areas such as indoor pool and jacuzzi are a little dated. Over all 4/5 I would return.

It was an ok hotel for the price they charged, room service to clean the rooms was not very good. Won’t come here again.

We stayed for a week. Cecilia at reception was brilliant but several other front desk staff were aloof and you felt like you were bothering them when asking anything. Their knowledge seemed limited. As there was no concierge, the front desk staff should be able to give you good offsite restaurant recommendations and directions. Rooms are a decent size but the really need modernising as they are very dark. There are many bad design elements such as the lack of plugs and location of the existing ones. Cleaning was poor- our mirrors had the same smudges all week. The floor was also definitely not cleaned. It made us wonder if anything else was getting cleaned like table surfaces. The dinner buffet was ok, but the breakfast buffet got very boring by day 3. They really should mix it up more. The service at the restaurant and bar was pretty poor. A couple of the team were great but many were either rude or a bit chaotic (eg never replacing cutlery, dropping plates etc.). I imagine they are worked very hard and maybe not compensated well, so can’t really blame them. The hotel stopped doing a free transfer to town “due to covid” but as things have dramatically picked up, they really should reinstate it as the walk took us 40 minutes one way and we’re young and fit. Overall, it could be much much better if they implemented more customer service training and updated the rooms so they aren’t so brown and dark.

Vi var godt førnøyd med hotellet. Menyen i buffetrestauranten var variert med gode, ferske ingredienser. Rommet var bra og godt rengjort hver dag. Betjeningen var hyggelig og imøtekommende. Kommer gjerne tilbake igjen.

La chambre a une vue exceptionnelle sur la piscine et l’océan. Le lit est fait chaque jour mais pas d’aspirateur. Au bout d’une semaine, le sol n’est plus très propre. La baignoire présente des traces de rouillés et les flexibles de douche fuient de partout. Inacceptable pour un 4 étoiles.

What an amazing property. This hotel was one of my favorites throughout our family trip of 10 days around Portugal and Madeira. We were given a suite with pool and ocean view. The rooms were spotless clean, comfortable beds with fluffy pillows. One of the best breakfast buffets we have experienced. The staff was very friendly and professional. Located near restaurants, natural pool, shopping mall. Highly recommend to stay at Porto Mare Bayport when visiting Funchal.

Meget bra variasjon i frokostmenyen. Hotellet er plassert i en flott hageanlegg og badeanlegg. Rommet var rent og velholdt. Personalet blid og hjelpsom og vi vil gjerne tilbake igjen, daa for våres fjerde besøk.

We had a wonderful and relaxing 10 day stay in the hotel in February 2022. We found the hotel to be clean and the staff efficient and helpful. The pool and garden area is lovely and well maintained with plenty of areas to sun bathe. The breakfasts were very good with a wide range of choices.

Nous avons réservé une chambre avec vur sur mer. Or depuis la chambre noud avons sur une immense barre d'immeuble, un autrehôtel. La vue sur mer n'était que depuis un certain angle sur le balcon.De plus nous avons été gênés par le bruit de cet hotel et par le passage incessant de motos.

Great place to stay while in Funchal. Comfortable rooms, great pools and other amenities. AC didn’t work properly the first night, but was repaired promptly the next morning. There was occasional loud music late at night, emanating from neighboring properties. Staff was kind and responsive. Good experience as a whole.

Hotel puur geboekt op de beoordelingen, het viel ons echter toch wat tegen. Om te beginnen, het is heel relaxed en je komt hier prima tot rust, personeel is zeer vriendelijk, heerlijk zwembad en overal genoeg ruimte om te ontspannen. Handdoeken op de ligstoelen bij het zwembad is wel doodirritant. Hotels zouden (net als het hotel waar we voor deze verbleven) hier echt wat aan moeten doen. Kamers moeten echt gerenoveerd worden, gang ruikt muf naar vloerbedekking. Het ontbijt is zeker niet bijzonder, in de koffie zijn ze de koffiebonen vergeten. Als je dan wel goede koffie wilt moet je extra betalen en zijn de de bonen alsnog vergeten. Bier uit de tap is niet lekker. Gemiddelde leeftijd van de bezoekers was pensionado , vandaar dat je helemaal tot rust kom; enige minpunt hiervan is dat je af en toe tussen de wandelstokken en rollators moet slalommen.

Hôtel incroyable, la chambre est spacieuse et avec une belle vue. Les divers restaurants sont très bien et bon. Beaucoup de choses à faire rien que dans l'hôtel.

Das Hotel und die Verpflegung sind ok. Es gibt jedoch Zimmer mit Meerblick, die zu einer Seitenstraße liegen, wo der Lärmpegel leider die Aufenthaltsqualität reduziert.

Very nice and well maintained. We had some noise problems: the rooms were above the bar that has live performers every evening, keeping the kids awake (they were no vacant rooms to change), one day they decided to make a hole in the wall near the room with a sledge hammer for a few hours… I would expect at least some compensation for that, but nothing

Zowel bij check-in als check-out was het duidelijk dat men luever niets deed dan een gast verwelkomen. Zuchten, eerst papieren blijven schuiven en omvriendelijkheid all over the place. Dat is jammer, want een goed hotel met ruime kamers, donker en met uitstkende bedden en overig personeel heel aardig. Je moet wel vam Engelse bejaarden houden :-)

Incredible stay, staff were friendly and helpful. Buffet were incredible (morning+dinner). Would recommend this hotel for everyone.

Atendimento péssimo da recepção e gerência. Foram descorteses, desde a minha chegada. Não perguntaram sequer se precisava de ajuda com a mala. Mas o pior mesmo foi terem disponibilizado apartamento diferente do contratado. Paguei por apartamento vista mar e me deram vista piscina, mesmo depois da troca permaneceu vista piscina. Sai do hotel na 2 noite, e paguei antecipado por 6 noites. Enfim, não recomendo. Tem muitos outros melhores nos arredores, sendo o Pestana Lido uma excelente opção com atendimento de primeira.

The staff for the most part a really nice maids and kitchen staff. The incumbent check in staff need to say I don’t know when they are asked question they don’t know. The new moto should be “If you don’t know Ask”

Godt mellemklasse-hotel, vores værelse var fint med dejlig terrasse og havudsigt. Personalet i receptionen var uengageret og nærmest uhøflig. Det kan gøres meget bedre! Morgenbuffet var god, dog med lunken kaffe.

Room we stayed in was terrific. Convenient taxi rank and bus stops incl tourist buses right outside hotel.

I enjoyed my stay at Porto Mare and highly recommend it. It is conveniently located in the area with many restaurants. The bus stop is in front of the hotel and you can hop on a bus to the centre of Funchal, or take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful with all the information you need.

Beautiful hotel, good location

The gardens shared by the three properties was amazing. Was able to walk to downtown Funchal from the hotel and the Lido bathing complex was located behind the property.

The hotel is fantastic and we ate in the Italian and Portuguese restaurants. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Room was great and the hotel picked up from the passports that it was my wife’s birthday and left some bubbles for us when we returned from a Levada walk. Turn left out of hotel and walk 20 mins and some great restaurants got to try Bistrot Des Agnes. Turn right and 25 mins walk into Funchal. We’re coming back and will definitely stay at Porto Mare again

Wonderful stay at the Porto Mare in Funchal. Room was spacious and comfortable with great view out to sea. The cocktails were lovely and the food of a very high standard for a buffest style arrangement. Breakfast was particularly good. The gardens are so well managed and lots of places to sit and relax. We had several treatments in the Spa all of which were very good. The hotel is ideally located and there is a bus stop right outside to catch buses into central Funchal if you are not up to the walk (about 25 minutes). Would definitely recommend this hotel for great value, excellent staff and a lovely experience.

Nice setting, about 40 minutes to walk into middle of Funchal and a 6.50 euro taxi fare. Excellent food, pools and gardens.

L’hôtel est idéalement situé, dans un quartier animé et à deux pas de l’océan. Le centre de Funchal est accessible à pieds. Les équipements de l’hôtel sont multiples et de très bonne qualité. L’établissement est à la hauteur de l’annonce. Le petit déjeuner est très fourni et de très bonne qualité.
