Das Hotel hat eine gute Lage, vom Balkon genießt man einen guten Blick auf Funchal mit Hafen. Der Service durch die Mitarbeiter ist tadellos. Das Zimmer war recht klein, wenig Platz zum Verstauen der persönlichen Dinge vorhanden. Nespresso-Kaffeemaschine und täglich 4 Kapseln + 2 kleine Flaschen Wasser werden bereitgestellt. Das Frühstück erscheint zunächst umfangreich, nach ein paar Tagen dann leider wenig vielfältig. Es gibt jeden Tag die gleichen Speisen, warme Gericht wie Rührei etc. werden komischerweise nicht gewürzt, Pan-Cakes sind ungesüßt. Das fanden wir geschmacklich nicht so besonders. Das Hotel ingesamt macht einen ordentlichen Eindruck, 5-Sterne Niveau würden wir aufgrund des Erscheinungsbildes eher nicht vermuten. Insbesondere der Poolbereich ist wenig einladend und renovierungsbedürftig. Die Zimmer sind auch teilweise eher ältlich anmutend. Wir hatten ein teilweise renoviertes Zimmer, das war ok. Diese Hotel-Kette hat anderswo moderne Zimmer, vielleicht wird ja hier auch einmal in naher Zukunft das Hotel „aufgefrischt „ und dem Zeitgeist angepasst?

Great location and views. Lovely breakfast and spacious bedrooms. Renovations work during our stay did produce noise disruption and reduced facilities which the hotel did try to minimise and I’m sure once completed will return the hotel to where it should be which is a quality 5 star hotel.

Hotell Cliff Bay är fantastiskt! Mycket atmosfär, lugnt och bekvämt. Vacker miljö med rosengård och bra utrymmen runt pool området och klippan. Stor inomhus och utomhus pool samt saltvattens pool. Frukosten är mkt bra med stor variation. Vi åt en mkt trevlig middag på Avista, en restaurang i systerhotellet samt flera middagar på the Rose Garden. Kommer definitivt tillbaka när det är lite varmare så att vi kan nyttja alla faciliteter bättre.

This property is gorgeous! Ocean views that are breathtaking. The pools are beautiful with an elevator access to the ocean dock. The rose garden breakfast offered multiple good choices - friendly service always from staff at this hotel

Absolutely gorgeous and clean facilities, pools, rooms, and dining. I highly recommend the half board option, the food and service was impeccable. The staff was gracious enough to upgrade our room as a celebration for a HUGE job promotion I had just received (and the reason for my trip). Can’t recommend this place enough. The demographic is a bit older but my fiance and I expected this. The sites poolside were breathtaking and there were plenty of places to sit. Great wine selection and the menu at the main restaurant changed nightly making it so we never got bored. 10/10 Cliff Bay!

Ett klassiskt 5-stjärnigt hotell som ligger otroligt vackert med utsikt över havet. Rummet rymligt och sängen och kuddarna underbart sköna. Frukosten hade allt man kan önska med möjlighet att välja olika kaffe och äggrätter som tillagades à minute. Städningen och renlighet på hotellet finns inget att klaga på. När det kommer till service var den generellt hög men som så ofta fanns det några undantag med personal som inte riktigt var helt serviceminded, tex var det någon som var lite dryg i sitt bemötande men de allra flesta var mycket trevliga och vi fick den service man kan begära. Priserna på hotellet, som i bar och restauranger är i klass som i Sverige, alltså höga priser. Den mat vi åt på hotellet var ett par luncher vid poolen och den var okej men inte i nivå satt till priset. På restauranger runt området eller inne i Funchal får man en braklunch för samma pris. Ett glas champagne i baren ligger på 22€ tex. Summa summarum ett mycket fint och trevligt hotel vi gärna återkommer till.

Absolutely amazing in every way. Lovely pool side seating with lots of different nooks. Pool Assistants were very attentive as was the lifeguard. Spotlessly clean. Prosecco with breakfast a massive plus! Plenty of choice to eat and bedrooms very stylish and comfortable. Great location about 20 minute walk from the centre but lots of lovely restaurants nearby. Will definitely come back.

We were expecting the WOW factor, and the lobby did not disappoint on arrival, however when we arrived at our room, it was clean but a bit tired and could do with refurbishing. The fridge did not work very well and there was no ice maker. We raised this and were told that we could get ice from room service. A bit of a pain so we went to get the ice from the bar. Also it would have been good to have fresh milk for tea & coffee instead of little cartons. The food was very good, we ate in the Rose Garden one night and Avista Mediterranean another night. The food by the pool was disappointing. We would return but there are other hotels to try near by.

Everything about the hotel is very stylish. The rooms are large and comfortable and have everything you need. At breakfast there is plenty of choice and plenty of helpful staff. Outside there are plenty of loungers and masses of space. Highly recommended.

Quietly classy. The overall perception is that it’s all about the comfort of the guests. The room was comfortable and had all the expected amenities. We had half board. The dinners were delicious. Obviously the kitchen have the “Michelin Star” touch. My only suggestion would be to provide a more detailed description of how the food will be served. And what accompaniments to expect. The waiters were never able to be very descriptive. It was always a surprise. Unfortunately olive mashed potatoes did not get 5 stars from me. Otherwise a super hotel and we will certainly return.

We paid for an ocean view room that came with either a king or twin bed. We were celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary so before we went I sent them a message asking if we could have the king bed with a great view of the ocean. To my surprise they put us in the most beautiful suite, a gesture that was kind and beautiful but not expected at all. Such a fun surprise and made for an amazing experience at the Cliff Bay hotel for our first time in Madeira.

We were upgraded to an upper floor with funchal bay view. Excellent views from the room and great service from staff! Breakfast had a wide spread and was good. Take note that there are opening hours for the sea access level. The only downside was the rooms a little dated.

Check in was terrible. Expedia I booked a garden view . When I got to the hotel they claimed it’s a land view . They showed me the most terrible room and I said o would not take it . Eventually they showed some better rooms with better views for more per night . I had no choice but to pay for the upgrade . Point is front desk said they don’t ever have a garden view (Expedia’s website ) only land view ( in my case a parking lot )

Lovely property but had unbelievable service in other hotels we stayed at. The Cliff Bay hotel the Staff couldn’t care if you were there or not. Very difficult to find pool staff , restaurant , poor recommendations from reception staff etc - often just did it ourselves. Very surprised as we are not demanding at all but For the premium price I expect premium service . The other hotels we stayed at couldn’t do enough for you . I thot it was important to share as I would want to know

Nous avons séjourné dans une belle chambre spacieuse avec une vue magnifique sur l'océan. La piscine intérieure-extérieure est très agréable car bien chauffée, les jacuzzis aussi. Le jardin est magnifique et très bien entretenu et l'échelle d'accès à l'océan est un atout très appréciable, je m'y suis baignée tous les jours et je tiens à féliciter les lifeguards toujours sympathiques et souriants même lorsqu'il pleuvait ! Le gros bémol de cet hôtel est le restaurant principal Rose Garden, le petit-déjeuner est bien mais le dîner n'est pas à la hauteur d'un hôtel 5 étoiles : déjà, il n'y a pas de buffet, ce que l'hôtel justifie par des arguments absurdes à l'entrée du restaurant mais au-delà de ça le service à table proposé n'est pas satisfaisant, les plats sont corrects mais la quantité bien trop faible et les desserts sont dignes d'une cantine. Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans cet hôtel !

We knew it would be good based on its reputation but were very impressed with the friendliness & efficiency of the staff. The position is great & as we had booked a seaview room, the view from our balcony was superb. We didn't eat at the hotel apart from the excellent breakfasts, tried to but unless you book in advance, convenient times weren't available at Avista restaurant. Overall, very pleased with our 9 nights there & will almost certainly return.
