The property is old but really well maintained. The city owned garage next door where you park is disgusting. Use the valet service. It’s worth the extra few dollars!! Great views from the bar/lounge on the 15th floor. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Easy walk to the waterfront and all the shops and restaurants. Overall great place to stay.

Hotel in good neighborhood location with a lot of dining options within walking distance. Hotel has access to attached public parking garage with room key, making it very convenient to park, while still being within walking distance of attractions and waterfront. Really good fitness room, and good in-hotel restaurant. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was very nice. Our room was elegant and quiet. The hotel lobby and front entrance are not ADA friendly. Lots of stairs and no ramps when you first enter the building. When we exited off of the highway and into Portland there were a lot of homeless people and graffiti on the buildings. Being from Chicago this did not make us very comfortable as "tagging" i.e. graffiti has a purpose and meaning. We loved the hotel but arriving later in the evening and being tired we did not feel safe going beyond the hotel to eat dinner. Therefore, we went to bed hungry because everything in the hotel was already closed.

Pros: The property was very nice, clean and secure and check in was smooth. Cons: At this price point I would appreciate complimentary coffee in the lobby alongside the water. Also it would be nice for the hotel to provide free parking in the abutting parking garage instead of only discounting you $7 from a $40 overnight charge. The walk through the garage is quite lengthy and dirty.

The location was easy to get to and valet parking made it convenient. The restaurant/ bar on the top floor has an amazing view and the staff were great. The room was clean and well maintained. The shower had great pressure it the body wash bottle was empty and the shower was not as clean as all the other places in the room.

We had an okay stay at this hotel. While I would not call the room dirty, I did notice what was either sand or ground glass in the rug, and a bit of grime in the bathroom under the vanity. Ditto for the restaurant, where we had breakfast -- the window sills had a film and some particles which were either food remnants or some other crud. Staff were friendly and helpful, but more attention to cleanliness would help. One more thing, this area is not the best -- a good many homeless people were living either in the park three blocks away or wandering the streets at all hours. We parked a few blocks away when we got back from dinner, and the walk to the hotel was not without a moment or two of concern. No police presence that we saw, unfortunately, but our sense was that Portland itself was struggling.

For the price you pay for a stay at the Westin, this doesn’t meet expectations. I’ve stayed at multiple Westins, including Nashville and Princeton. They were both incredible. From rude valet to dated and dirty hotel room with uncomfortable bed that smelled like cigarette smoke, I actually can’t believe I paid $485 per night. Gave the same vibe as a $150-$200/night hotel.

We parked in the garage next to the hotel. We took care of our own luggage and came down the stairwell too where the exit connects to the Westin. The stairwell was disgusting; dirty and smelling of urine. Not a great way to enter the Westin. The room we had was more on the high price, hoping the decor would make the expense worth while. Though the room was clean, the decor was “tired and bland.” Specifically, the following issues do not warrant the room price: 1. There was a large tear along the back rest of the chair that was paired with the computer console table. 2. The furniture was marked and worn; the finish was down to the bare wood. 3. The seams of the wallpaper had failed, so the edges of the wallpaper were curling off the wall. 4. There was a small tear in the skirt covering the box spring. 5. The bathtub drain needs a clean out; during a shower, the water would begin to fill the tub-water could not drain adequately. My room number at the Westin Hotel in Portland Maine was 1227. I had a two night stay on August 13th and 14th.

Room smelled like vomit. It got worse as the night went on. Elevator dinged and rattled all night. Heating system was incredibly loud. Toilets were even louder when they flushed and you could hear the flushing from other rooms. Worse night at a hotel EVER!!! Customer rep at the front desk could have cared less.

Beautiful hotel! Walking distance to lots of restaurants and shopping. State Theater is 500’ away. My only complaint was the name tag from a previous guest stuck to the mirror in the bathroom. Popcorn and an old pair of slippers under one of the beds.

beautiful hotel, we have stayed here a few times before and never had any issues. I can't say that now. We got stuck in an elevator for 25-30 minutes, had to climb down a ladder as it was in between 2 floors, yet they never shut the elevators down! We heard from someone else they had also gotten stuck for about 10 minutes before it started working again. We were late for our event (see being stuck in elevator) but told the shuttle (that was sitting right outside) was unavailable for about 20 minutes. Then in the middle of the night the emergency alarm went off, evacuating the entire hotel. After about 20 minutes we were told all was good and we could return to our rooms. We received a 'snack bundle' for our troubles with a little card saying sorry about the elevator. Oh, and you have to pay for wi-fi. End this practice, just include wi-fi in your price. No one wants to pay an additional fee for anything just make the cost $10 more and have free wi-fi!

Fantastic (the best for comparable hotels) location. The room can feel dated compared to something like AC hotel, which is on the water but not central. Service is great, the Windows have interesting visitas. Bathrooms are dated and rooms are tighter than comparable.

The only issue was with the HVAC vent. It was continuously blowing, with no way to turn it off entirely (at least that I could figure out). Although it wasn't blowing cold air, it was constantly blowing 68-degree Fahrenheit air, which was uncomfortably chilly to have the air actually blowing.

The coffee shop was closed in the morning while staff was out on break, a little strange. Received no service in 10 minutes at the rooftop restaurant, so had to unfortunately leave. Received no service in 10 minutes at the downstairs restaurant for breakfast, so had to unfortunately leave. The staff were very unhelpful, there were no ramps for luggage, the one van for transportation was broken, the elevator to the parking garage was broken, the staircase on one end of the garage was locked , and the staircase on the farthest side from hotel had unhoused people sleeping there and human feces on the floor.No concierge, no knowledge of area restaurants. Rooftop bar was the only highlight of the place.

Gave me the wrong room, was walked in upon by cleaning (half dressed) at 10am on day of check out. Battery broke on door lock-so locked out of room til engineering arrived. Overall, not great, not updated and too many errors/issues to recommend

We stayed for one night to attend a party with long-time friends. Our stay was very pleasant, especially the care given us by the staff members at the front desk. The only downside was that our check in was delayed by 35 minutes because no room was ready -- this despite the fact that the reservation had been confirmed 3 months prior, we arrived at the 4:00 PM time, and had checked in on-line the night before.

Sub par at best. Was locked out of our room for a few hours due to static issues with the door key card lock. After three trips to the front desk and multiple phone calls a tech did fix the issue. Missed dinner reservations before the orchestra but did manage to get our tickets from the room in time for the show. On another note, housekeeping knocked once then entered our room at 9am after explicitly requesting no housekeeping until after checkout. Location was the only value of our stay. Previously staying here with no issues I believe a downturn in service is noteworthy.

I can’t say enough good about the staff or the property. The valet crew was top notch and friendly, offering tips, directions and even shuttle rides across town as the weather was poor and since they had time they said they didn’t see a need for me to take a lyft. The front desk hooked us up with an early check in and late check out and the hotel bar / breakfast restaurant was great as well. Per the room, it was spacious, views were great, bed comfy, couch comfy and the shower was also large and modern. Wouldn’t even bother trying another property in town after staying here. Steps to the State Theatre and lots of great restaurants and shops and just a short walk to old port and the boardwalk.

Short walk to the water and the center of the old port. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurant on the top floor had incredible views of the city; definitely recommend going up there for at least a drink.

Hotel was nice but overpriced. The restaurant food was not good and also too pricey. Parking should be included but you have to pay for that as well. This hotel does not offer anything special above any other hotel to justify the price. Probably would not stay again.

We enjoyed the room but the Top of the East was our destination for our 40th birthday- it was TERRIBLE. The service was very very slow- and though we had reservations it took 45 before we were served our first drink. We were going to a show and waited forever for sun-par food served very disjointed( there were 6 of us) two at a time with long periods in between we had apps. Not sure why everything took so long. It was honestly the worst service I have ever had and considering the prices of everything, it seems like it’s robbery. The views were beautiful at least but my friend was disappointed that she chose your establishment to celebrate her birthday. How unfortunate that they paid top dollar for a babysitter to spend too much money and miss the beginning of a show with having 5:30 reservations. I remember when the Top of the East was fun, beautiful and the place to enjoy good food, service and friends

Building is quite old (originated in 1927), but had a complete renewal done inside. Room was very nicely appointed and bed was great. Loved the shower! Breakfast deal as an add on to the room charge was fantastic. Breakfast for 2 let's you pick any 2 main dishes (I had a 3 egg omelette with my choice of 3 ingredients, plus excellent potatoes, choice of bread) non-alcoholic beverage (we both had coffee) and juice. The food was great and the price was unbeatable.
