JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La

Clean room, well-appointed with good room service every day. Hotel location is walkable to historic centre but aside a busy road which can be hard to cross at times. Pool area leaves a lot to be desired, very basic with worn out chairs. Good breakfast options.

Perfectly pleasant hotel. As ever, very warm, friendly and helpful staff with a professional approach to their work. Great location in the centre of George Town - try 99 McNair for hawker food - 2 minutes round the corner from the hotel. Room was pleasant, clean and modern. Breakfast was very good. Lobby bar was nice with good cocktails and great live music at the weekend. The club lounge is good - the selection of drinks is small but OK - international and local beer, wine and free pour brand spirits. The food is more than sufficient for an evening supper if you can't be bothered going out (or if like me you are greedy) but it would be better still if it was more authentic malay food. We would stay here again. :-)

My first trip to Penang and after reading past reviews decided to go with JEN Penang. The stay was pleasant and the staff were very courteous plus super helpful. Location wise it is within walking distance to many attractions nearby and the famous Top of Penang. Buffet breakfast has a very good spread of food choices and tasty. I would say there are 2 areas which probably need some step up. Firstly, the pool closes at 7pm and we didn’t get the chance to use it as our day trip ends about 6.45pm. The other was the room card key. Only one key plus a dummy for inserting inside the room. Maybe I should ask if we could have extra key card coz the timing needs to be right to get back to the room with just one card. Overall, highly recommended for the value and accessibility to the area.

I am a regular at the Jen Hotel. It is well located to explore the town and has shopping malls adjacent to it although they are in decline as the major department stores have now gone. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a good breakfast selection. The hotel was refurbished a few years ago and offers comfortable accommodation and offers great views from the club lounge. I recommend the club rooms as they offer excellent value and the benefit of drinks and nibbles of an evening. It's a great place to relax after exploring the town. I only have one criticism, the hotel has installed a floating barrier across the pool that prevents anyone wanting to complete laps or at least swim to swim to each end. I found this disappointing and I will likely consider other hotel options in the future as I prefer to have a pool when travelling that you can enjoy and can swim freely.

Excellent stay, still convenient although no longer directly linked to the mall. You need to cross a slightly busy junction to get to first avenue mall. Near all the yummy food location, easily walkable - all within 5-10 minutes walk. Live band at the bar every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Will stay again next time

The hotel is excellent, service is great, helpful staff. Great the Lounge on 16th floor, all day food and drink, 5-7 free wine beer etc . The shopping centre close by not much in variety, and not all rented. So only negative which for me not important in shopping mall stuff.

At the start, it was quite a wait for the room to be ready even though we wished to check in slightly earlier, and they told us to come in at 3. At 3, they still took some time to prepare the room. The housekeeping is slow and is not attentive to litter or empty bottles left outside the room. So this is an area to improve on. Also surprising that there is no spa at this hotel, as the daily rate for the room is quite high. I may not be inclined to return to this hotel in future sadly. However, the concierge at the porter side are helpful and efficient aa compared to the front line receptionists. Rooms are quite well maintained, but the dustbins are not lined with plastic bags. So its not very hygienic.

Nice rooms and great gym for a hotel that even has dry and steam saunas. Slightly farther from the main area, but a solid hotel.

While hotel has always been my favourite whenever I visited Georgetown due to it's location to various food options and places of interest, management seems to be neglecting state of rooms and amenities. Dust is clearly visible on walls, USB ports for charging is no longer working and two treadmills in gym is not working properly. Will be looking elsewhere for my next visit since getting around with Grab is so convenient nowadays.

On 19-23 Nov 2023 stay, found silverfish and showed hotel staff pictures, requested room change but staff refused. After cleaning, no refill of toilet paper. Very disappointed. Cannot go there or recommend anyone to stay in this hotel again.

Overall was good. Just that the room furniture and wall are very dusty.

My room, 1110, was very dusty. I would like to suggest to vacuum up the whole room before putting guests in. Other than that, it was a very very pleasant experience. Definitely recommended!!!

Pillows too soft, didnt have good night sleep for the 8 nights. A bit dusty in the room. But i guess is normal. Staff are all very friendly and enthusiatic about their work. Buffet breakfast varieties a lot. Overall still okay.

The cleanliness of the hotel room is questionable as I found an old slipper by the side of the bed upon walking into the room. Front desk staff wasn't very helpful in helping to arrange rides to airport and wasn't knowledgeable about tourist attractions.

The room is spacious and clean. The bed was comfy. It is located in the city. Easy accessible to eateries. Next to it is a shopping mall. Will definitely stay here again if to visit penang.

Like - Room cleaniness and prompt room service. Dislike - Lobby couch/sofa are dirty. Due for a wash.

Great location at the south end of Georgetown, easy walking to great eateries and bars. Very comfortable bed.

Pillows were too soft and were uncomfortable for me. Very happy for the family room that allowed for the family to sleep comfortably together in the same room. Conveniently located to the heritage areas and nearby malls. Was odd that combs were not provided with the room but that's a minor issue.

Location: City centre Shopping: Right next to Komtar, 1st Avenue, etc. Food: Less than 5 minutes drive (walkable) to famous food areas in Penang Rd, Macalister Rd, Burmah Rd, etc. Transport: Easy to get Grab and also near the coastal highway to the Airport. Cleanliness: Clean lobby and rooms, aircon smells fresh. Nice bedsheets and pillows. Inroom TV: a bit lacking in foreign channels. Needs more movies and sports channels. Mostly local TV channels.

酒店雖然舊，但保養好並且很整潔，員工有禮貌及工作效率也很快。只是房間隔音很差，門外或隔壁房間聲音都聽得很清楚。

Overall is good. Only the TV programme selection are super limited. There isn't much programmes to watch while relaxing in the room. Room door can be enhanced as the door seems like has a gap in between after locking in. Thank you for your hospitality,Jen Penang!

My room is small compared with other hotel of the same class, and the TV reception is poor and of an older model with little TV prgrammes to choose from.

I have booked Hotel Jen Penang Georgetown via Experia. I was also asked and agreed to take the option of early check-in, paying RM118 for this option by Jen Penang. When I check-in at about 11.00am, I was given a room with a King sized bed. When I told the Front desk lady that I booked a deluxe twin room, she insisted that what is being shown in her system is a king sized bed room. When I asked for a change to a deluxe twin room, she insisted that the king sized bed room is what I have booked. So, I took the king sized bed room but upon using the wash basin to wash my hand, the wash basin was choked and water cannot drained off. I asked for a technician to repair and the technician was good and arrived within ten minutes. The water choke was cleared after he fixed the screw to the drainage lifter for water to drain off. Then I took out my hard copy of confirmed room booking at Jen Penang to the same lady at the Front desk. Now, she cannot insisted that I have booked a king sized bed room and agreed to change my room to a twin room after 4 pm. I am frustrated and disappointed as to why a twin room was not prepared for me since my early check-in was approved, confirmed and paid for before my stay on 22 March 2024. My first impression of Jen Penang was and is poor customer service at the Front Desk. After getting the correct room after 5pm, every other services are good, from housekeeping, breakfast service, concierge, etc. Will continue with another page by for checkout.

The check in is terrible as I waited more than 30 minutes as there is only one counter manning for guests check in and check out.

The stay was good overall, and I was satisfied with most aspects. The counter staff and concierge were friendly and helpful. Their service was greatly appreciated. However, the operator customer service was rude and often sarcastic, which negatively impacted the experience. The housekeeping service did not replenish the tissues, which was a minor inconvenience. The pillows were too soft for my preference.

Overall is was good. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Initially the checking in processes was a bit slow since there was only one counter open. Afterwards they open more counter. The check on staff was quick to check us in. Facilities was good.

2 big standouts: Subbiah and his Team 2622622 in morning buffet breakfast over 3 consistent breakfast days took care of breakfast like it was his own hospitable establishment. Professional caring very hard working, gracious, 100% on the ball, make the whole experience top class. The food the drinks everything was crazy awesome. Kudos to this man and the team that brands this Shangrilla establishment. 2nd highlight was the reception manager on that day Keven who helped us on check in to help us with even our expedia booking converting our stay for 3 people to 2 people as my 80 yo mother in law got sick couldn't come and came up with using his discretion to throw in breakfast with Subbiah's team. we will come back to Jen hotel again when we come back to Penang and hope to see Subbiah again. By the way, subbiah never approached us, we approached him to tell him how good we thought he was and wanted to know how to provide a review. Thank you all incl the room cleaning staff at 908.

Here are commendable points by the staff 1) Breakfast at lobby café The staff at the café clear the dish promptly. One of the staff noticed that my friend's napkin has dropped, the staff replaced with new napkin. Good service. 3) Housekeeping service Upon checking into the room, we found that the usb port is unable to charge in both bedside. Informed that staff at the reception counter, they get the hosukeeping staff to check. When we came back to the room, we found that the usb port has been rectified, Good service 3) At check out counter At check out , the staff took an extra effort to print out to show that the credit card transaction was cancelled. Good service,. In addition, while queuing to check out, there were some people that tried to jump queue by standing behind the counter instead of standing at the queue pole. The staff redirected these people to stand at the queue pole which is fair for the rest of people queuing behind. Bravo effort This the second time staying in this hotel after 3 year. the service standard is high . The hotel location is central location with malls. Highly recommend to friends

Need to request things like hand towels and bath gel. Given 1smaĺl bottle for the day. Request to fold up the sofa bed. But it was not done. Paid for 4 stars hotel standard like 3 stars. First day toilet paper was left over from last guests. Not replace with new one. Morning even do not disturb sign is on cleaner still knock and try to open the door. Overall not happy with the service provided by the hotel this time. Next trip will look for better service hotel.

Good hotel & best location

Excellent hotel for the price and walkable to various malls and the historic district. Also situated next to the bus interchange for long distance buses to other cities in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Room was clean and comfy and the staff were excellent.

Decent 4 star hotel near Komtar. Close to everything so walking works. Komtar itself is getting very outdated by now and needs a major rehaul.

excellent location and located in the heart of Unesco Heritage site, also walking distance from malls and local food to explore, spacious room, free parking is provided, staff is nice, buffet breakfast has variety of choice. Overall satisfied with my stays in Penang.

I stay here a lot, every year, However the food and drink options in the club lounge seem to have deteriorated every year, not sure the benefits of the club lounge are worth it any more, may as well pay for the cheaper rooms. New club lounge staff have no idea of what customer service is either, they need to learn from the old hands who are excellent. Also the aircon in the apartments is almost useless, just not cold at all, they need to look at that. I changed after one night to another apartment room but the aircon was just as bad in that room too. Most days the food at breakfast downstairs was cold and the coffee from the machines was always only luke warm, I pointed this out many times and nothing was changed.

The breakfast is one of the best!
