Microtel Inn by Wyndham University Place

This property needs upgrading. Elevator sounds like it is going to tumble down. Smells like cigarettes inside the room. Needs to be removed from Expedia. I have a 3 day reservation, check out the following day but stayed at a friend house the day of check-in.

upon check in, they have a sign stating the elevators doesn't work! room smelled of smoke in a non-smoking property. Then I find roaches and report this to the front desk and she so disrespectfully says, "well this microtel ain't for everyone! rampant transient traffic along with the blatant prostitution that is ongoing on the property and the fact that this is the 3rd Wyndham property I've stayed at and it only gets worse by location!! DO NOT STAY HERE! YOU ARE SAFER SLEEPING IN YOUR CAR!

We could not stay because there was no elevator in service to get my sister and I to the second floor. We can not climb stairs. The stairs smelt like urine.

I have lived to be 73 yo, & have travelled substantially but have never seen anything as bad. Outside Entrance & check in area: dirty, full of cigarette butts, all over the area that was to be smoke free/no smoking. Front desk only attendant on the phone with several folks wanting to check in. Inside hotel, the elevator was out of order. Room: missing electrical covers posing danger of electrocution. Radio , telephone, wall decoration were taken out. Window would not lock, since the window could not be completely shot & it’s glass cracked. When turning the water in the shower the entire faucet appeared to move around. The vent cover partially shut & looks dirty. Free breakfast was truly a joke. The only ones appearing to do their job were room cleaning staff since sheets & towels were clean. In conclusion I know this properly has been ignored for sometime & poses several safety issues. It appears that this property has not been inspected for these safety issues otherwise would be shutting down. Pictures available.

Elevator broken, room was on 3rd floor. Recent rotator cuff surgery and had a heavy bag. Young man working did carry my bag up the stairs for me. Room was definitely a smoking room or had been. One light in entire room worked over one bed. That and one of 2 bathroom lights worked. Paint peeling, very much in need of repairs.

This place was a mess. The entrance and corridors smelled strongly of marijuana and the elevator was jerky. The staff was very unfriendly to begin with. When we arrived in our room the condition was appalling. There were bare wires hanging from the ceiling where the smoke detector should have been, no outlet covers, mold covering the ceiling and walls in the bathroom as well as the ac unit. Holes in the walls and peeling drywall, filthy carpet and stained comforter on the bed. The smell in the room was suffocating and turning the air on only made it worse. I approached the lady at the front desk to ask if they had a different room in better condition and she told me I should leave. We did leave and stayed somewhere else. This is NOT the quality I would expect when booking through Expedia. And the worst part is that I payed a good chunk for the room that didn’t get refunded.

Not well kept up. Needing lots of maintenance and cleaning. Rooms are not maintained. Never will stay there again nor recommend.

Absolutely gross. No ac in the hallways. Smell was nasty thoughout. Our bathroon door had a handle but no mechanism in the door the light in the bathroom wasnt the the socket. Fan in bathroom didnt work. Also looked like out door had been kicked in before didnt even close unless u pushed it. It rained so they were catching water in a trash can from the roof. No breakfast unless u wanted juice or coffee. Honestly worst place ive ever stayed.

Entire place smells like a cigarette, the room was absolutely filthy with burn holes in the furniture, stains & pubic hair on the bed linens, the light switches were covered in grime, the ceiling above the shower was covered in mold, and someone left a surprise in the toilet that was not flushed. I was shocked and appalled at how bad it actually was. As a single female traveler, the people hanging outside and asleep in the lobby made me feel very uncomfortable as well. The front desk gal was very nice and apologetic and refunded me in full, certainly not her fault the place is in shambles, so my review has 3 stars for SERVICE only.

The carpets were worn and stained, the bathroom was unclean and falling apart, and there were holes in the walls. The light bulbs were not all working, and the doors and walls had accumulated dirt from years of handling. The duvet covers on the beds appeared to have never been cleaned. Odor: The entire hotel, including the hallways and rooms, smelled strongly of cigarettes. Noise: There was loud music playing in an adjacent room, and what sounded like a loud machine, possibly a skill saw, was running in the room above us at 1:30 a.m., making it impossible to sleep. Safety and Security: There were multiple sketchy individuals milling around outside, who appeared to be pimps or drug dealers. It was very hot outside, with temperatures in the high 90s, yet these individuals continued to hang around, making the environment feel unsafe. Staff Appearance and Conduct: The front desk staff was underdressed and looked dirty. The entrance to the hotel was also rundown and dirty. General Condition: The overall condition of the hotel was the worst I have ever encountered. It was disgusting and made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.

The rooms smelt absolutely disgusting. A mix of cigarette smoke, body odor, & a musty moldy smell. I’m pretty sure this place also had a two-way mirror in the bedroom. I spent so much money on cleaning supplies to freshen the place up. Slept one night, as soon as I woke up, the first thing I saw was a bed bug crawling toward my head. I killed it, immediately went to the front desk & told them the room has bed bugs. They asked if I wanted a different room, I said no, I am not comfortable staying here, can I get a refund? They said yes. I packed up and got out of there as fast as I could. I left my $200 Purple Harmony pillow and my personal blanket in a trash bag in the room and told the front desk that they owe me $200 for a new pillow. I will be filing a claim & reporting this disgusting hotel. Wyndham is going to hear from me.

Very dirty bathroom, smelled moldy and blood on sheets

Hotel overall is run down and needs updated. Room needed vacuumed. Bathroom ceiling moldy. On the 2nd floor and could hear every bit of walking above us. Wouldn't even sit my bag in that awful stained desk chair. I have stayed at other hotels in the area and this is the worse.

Filthiest place I've ever stayed. Non-smoking, but smells like it's had 6 packs a day for a century. Smoke detector was ripped out of the ceiling, stains everywhere, paint chipped more than paint on the wall, carpet torn up and dirty, weird stains on bathroom outlets, lights, and door? Roach motel n very itchy beds

Check in was smooth although the front desk person was entertaining her “boyfriend”. First room we were given had a leak. The second we were changed to had roaches. We asked for another room but they didn’t have anymore doubles. We asked for a refund and she became a little irritated. Once the shift changed, the new guy explained that she worked a double (so that explained her irritation). However, he was able to cancel the room and approve the refund.

Horrible. Room smell like cigarettes.. halls smell like weed… somebody drinking beer inside. The best part ROUCHES in the room. Pictures are attached

Terrible all around. Hallways stink. There were roaches ON THE BED. I immediately booked another hotel

My check in process was extremely convenient and the room was pretty well kept. The only bad thing was the mattress in my room had a dip on the left side.

The lighting was awful and could hardly see. The mirror behind the bed looked dirty and the blanket runner had white stuff all over it. The bathroom light wouldnnt stay on and the shower rod looked like it was about to fall out the wall. It smelled like cigarettes smoke and the door got struck teying to open it.

I stayed in this property once last year and it was better condition than this time. We found a roach crawling on the wall, the toilet bowl was chipped, broken at the rim, they tried to glue/caulk it back but it was still leaking out at each flush.

This place needs repairs and needs to be updated. My shower rods were falling out of the wall. The bed had a slant in it.( foot higher than the head) Unless you have to, don"t stay here.

The whole hotel smelled of stale cigars, despite there being no-smoking signs on every door. When we entered our room the door was wide open and the lights were on. The shower had bugs crawling all over it and there was no shower curtain. Also, the TV remote didn't connect to the TV. The staff was nice but the room was not at all as pictured.

My room was on the end of 2nd floor hallway. The hallway was smelly. Inside the room wasn't smell really bad but the toilet bowl was not bolted onto the floor, almost tipped over when I sat on one side when wiping. Also, the toilet seat sliding left & right. Lots of trashes around the building

Room smelled of mold like maybe the ac was leaking onto the carpet... there was a stick in the window and only one lock worked on window... didn't feel safe at all.

Checkin/front desk were friendly and polite. However, rooms needs renovation: bedroom had musty/not fresh odor, bathroom had obvious paint chipping and sink cold water faucet rotated without a stopping point without any cold water being produced. Hot water faucet also rotated freely without a clear stopping or turn-off point. Desk lighting flickered, but never “turned on.” The TV was so large and hung so low, it made entry into hanging closet space below hard to use. I will NOT return or recommend this property for future stays.

Hot water faucet in sink did not work, room smelled of pot smell and I am not a user, walls were very dirty, staff did not speak 2 words at check in nor at any interaction. Slept in room only and avoided being on-site.

Maintenance man should be fired. Bath tub faucet ready to fall off. Shower curtain ready to fall off the wall also. Barely got 2 showers in. Even sink faucet loose.

Hi, When we arrived, there was someone bathing behind their car in the parking lot. Once inside, the décor appeared new, but the area was not clean. We went to the front desk, but there was only a sign that said “Be back in a minute.” After waiting about 20 minutes with no one returning, we decided to leave, grab something to eat, and find a different hotel. I called the hotel today and spoke with the assistant manager, who was very kind and refunded the full amount.

The desk personnel were very nice — taking care of business while being pleasant and friendly to guests checking in or out.

They have a sign saying if u have a Charlotte id or live a certain distance that u can’t check in there but when I called and asked how much were there incidentals and they told me there is no incidentals they never said if ur a Charlotte resident that u can’t stay there. So after being told that the young boy said I could either have him cancel my reservation or I could give him an extra $20 and send to his cash app. I only did it because I have my daughters and needed somewhere for us to stay for the night and couldn’t keep looking and keeping them outside, it had already been a long day. So this boy is probably telling so many guests that he will bypass I guess this unfair rule they have at this particular microtel if u just give him an extra 20-25. This is so not right, but again I paid it cuz I needed a place for my 4&5 year daughters to stay for the night and couldn’t keep them out too late

Staff was really nice

We really enjoyed our stay here. It was quiet, clean, and the staff was very friendly! No problems whatsoever. Will definitely be staying there again!

I took my Daughter and Her friend to a concert, we stayed 1 night. BIG mistake! Room was not clean, the bathroom faucet leaked. My daughter saw a cockroach when she walked into the bathroom. The entire floor smelt of marijuana. I called the front desk and went to the front desk. No one answered the phone after we checked in, and nobody was seen at the front desk. When we left. Nobody at the front desk. We took our bag to the car to leave, I walked back in after turning the car on to run the AC. As I was walking back in, with the room cards in my hand a lady SMOKING asked if I was checking out. I asked if she even worked here, she said she did and I gave her the room keys. Absolutely terrible visit. WILL NOT go back while staying in Charlotte! Only positive was the air conditioning worked.

When I first arrived, I was given room keys to a room that was already occupied. When I told him about it, he asked me what did I mean then I was given a second set of keys the hotel has roaches. They advertised a hot breakfast, which they did not provide, and I was woken at 6 AM with someone coming in my room. I was petrified with no apology. I was told I would get a refund when I asked about it she said I had to go through a third-party. I do not recommend anyone staying at this hotel.

The front desk clerk is Jalen and he is so polite and helpful. We have stayed here a few times now and really like it.

Area is sketchy. Rooms are dated and dirty. The safety latch on my door was broken. It was very noisy. It looks like they have a lot of people that just live there, so there was a lot of people loitering around the parking lot and smoking. Quite a few homeless people hanging near the property as well. Definitely did not feel safe. I would not stay there again and especially not for the price I paid.

Dirty, people hanging around property all night,

Perfect location food with nearby proximity to NASCAR track. Lil thin walled but that could just be me I am an extremely light sleeper.

On arrival the Hotel Staff was having problems with an intruder. Some guy was at the property and they were taking about calling the police on him. My Wife got very nervous and she wanted us to leave.

The bathroom sink had hardly any water coming out of it. The rugs in and around the room and hotel looked very old and filthy. The morning breakfast that was included consisted of just a few slices of bread and a few small muffins. The reception desk phone was not being answered on a regular basis. The only thing that was positive about this experience was that the staff was friendly and nice. Overall, much to my disappointment, I would not recommend this hotel. Microtel is not the same hotel company that it used to be. Very disappointing.

heating unit was too noisy to use high shriek when water turned on $14 for a bowl of cold cereal for breakfast. Coffee was ok tissue box in bathroom was empty

You get what you paid for. This place really needs some major upgrade. The queen size bed was not solid. The mattress was very wore out. TV remote had dead batteries. There was no microwave or fridge. The tv was in the "closet space." Needs new flooring and bathroom was not clean. The breakfast was a no go. The apple juice had water coming out. But like i said you get what you paid for.

The hallway and our room reeked of marijuana. We booked a room for 4 people and when we asked for two additional towels Saturday night, we were told they were out. The breakfast had no juice as the machine was out of order. There was cereal and about a dozen mini muffins to choose from. The hot water dial on our faucet was broken, The vent fan in the bathroom rattled and did not work. The carpet appeared filthy. The lady there on day shift was friendly, though.

The cleanliness was very poor, their was a door between my room and the next door room taped shut,the hallways smelled of pot. There was suppose to be breakfast 7-10 am however it only consisted of cereal, the coffee was empty, and only other item was a juice machine which I was afraid to drink due to the cleanliness. The photographs on the website are deceiving.

It’s funny when a sign says non smoking building and it reeked of old stale smoke the weed smell the dirty old stains carpet nothing has been washed in ages. They only offer juice only for breakfast what’s the pint of having a dining area with no food garbage is not picked up daily. The hall garbage was piled super high for the two nights I stayed there. Never ever coming back oh and the queen size bed it’s really a full size so someone owes me money and the mold in the bathroom the leaked toilet and crack tub. Needs a renovation badly.
