This was a very nice hotel. The breakfast was especially good. There is a nice pool terrace with drinks available. It is on the Gaia side of the river and very close to lots of restaurants and bars.

The Lodge was great; i only stayed there one night because i was attending a conference at the hilton (which is about 200 ft away) and couldn't get a room there the first night, but after staying at the lodge the first night i wish i had just booked there the entire time. they offer you a welcome drink while your bags are brought up. the room was spacious and very nice. i had a great view of the river/city. unfortunately there were big wildfires during my stay so (i assume this is why) the pool area was not open

The Lodge provided an amazing stay. The hotel was beautiful, the room was large with 2 tvs, double shower, welcome fruit platter and great bed. The staff were exceptional!! The morning breakfast was inclusive of something for everyone and the on site parking was great.I would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you for an excellent time!

Dejligt hotel med skøn udsigt over floden. Gåafstand til den gamle bydel. Det var beliggende på portvinshus siden. Fine værelser med smart tv og indbygget cromecast. Morgenmaden der bestod af både kolde og varme retter. Dertil mulighed for at bestille forskellige kaffe varianter, som blev serveret ved bordet. vi nød den opvarmede pool og solsengene hver eftermiddag når vi kom retur til hotellet. super fin beliggendhed til 4 dage i Porto.

Beautifully designed hotel with great amenities: pool, gym, spacious lobby/lounge area. The view of Porto across the river was amazing. You do have to walk or take a quick car ride to get to the center. Highly recommended and will definitely stay here again.

Actually one of the worst VIP property experiences I have had. Friends who had booked regular rooms had better accommodations than I did. I was on the second floor right in front of a bus stop and friends were given rooms on floors 4 and 6 with views of The city. Also my room had bugs in the bathroom was missing a a hot water kettle which the other rooms had. Very poor service

Agréable séjour dans un hôtel moderne très bien situé dans le quartier Vila Nova Gaia. Possibilité de tout faire à pied. Personnel accueillant. Chambre propre avec une literie de qualité. Par contre pas de bouteilles d’eau disponible gratuitement dans la chambre. C’est payant. Petit déjeuner buffet parfait. Possibilité de demander des omelettes ou panecake( nous l’avions su qu’au dernier jour) Je recommande vivement cet hôtel pour vos séjours à Porto

Ett mycket bra hotell. Fantastisk service,mat,läge och rum. Läget på hotellet är perfekt nära floden och porttillverkarna. Poolen var bra uppvärmd med en bar. Städning av rum 2ggr/dag med en liten gåva varje kväll.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was amazing. The room was always spotless, bed was like sleeping in a cloud lol. The breakfast had a huge amount of options and was always well stocked. The waiters /waitresses were always attentive and we were treated like royalty. To be fair every member of staff treated us like royalty and couldn’t do enough for us. Would highly recommend the hotel for comfort, cleanliness and service. Would stay again without hesitation.

Lovely hotel for a couples or adult trip. Very walkable to all the main sight. Very trendy interior, nice pool and lovely rooms. Wonderful friendly staff who were always happy to help and make recommendations. Minor room for improvement in terms of cleaning of the room and limited variety for breakfast (when compared to other hotels of the same rating). Our bathroom was not always as thoroughly cleaned as expected but they were happy to rectify. We would recommend the hotel to others and would come back.

Wonderful experience. Staff was amazing and so nice. The included breakfast had many options which was great. Nice big king size bed in the room was very comfortable. As an American, I know that European hotels can sometimes be much smaller compared to what we are used to. This was not the case at all. I highly recommend.

A wonderful hotel on the Vila Nova de Gaia side of the river Douro. The hotel had excellent amenities and I slept even better than in my own bed. Even though the design of the room it self was maybe not my favorite in regards of the open bath room (doors to toilet and shower), we enjoyed the stay outmost. Room clean, breakfast wonderful and staff very attentive and polite. The only slightly negative was the WiFi could need some improvements, all units did come and go both in room and by the pool. Highly recommendable, the minor problem with WiFi did not ruin any problems as 5G worked perfectly as supplement when needed.

I don’t enjoy leaving unflattering reviews, but our experience was so different than what I had expected (based on others’ reviews and the price point) that I’m sharing here. Issues: (1) By booking on Expedia, we were not only given the worst room (limited view, next to elevators, etc.) but were scolded by the reception staff for not booking directly with Marriott. We were also rudely dismissed when having inquired about a room change. (2) The bathrooms are not actually a separate (bath)room and are just a separate space in the bedroom. If you are traveling with someone, be prepared for no privacy regarding lights, sound, etc. (3) Dinner in the restaurant was just okay and way over-priced for what it was (though the service was pleasant). (4) Multiple times a day, there are huge tourist buses that drop off and pick up right outside the hotel, which means every time you come and go, you need to wade through dozens of tourists standing around the entrance. (5) Most of the attractions (churches, restaurants, cafes, shopping, tours, etc.) are on the other (city) side of the river, which means there’s a 25-35 minute walk each way, and even if you’re fit and healthy, there really is only one way across the river, so it’s the same trinket stands and tourist traps you pass by each time (and not a good use of time). Moreover, a taxi or Uber also takes 20+ minutes due to the traffic (congested by the tour buses and the limited number of bridges in/out of the city).

The hotel is beautiful and well maintain. We stayed in a suite. The room is big, clean and well kept. The bed was confortable and the view is spectacular. The staff is great. Very professional and very helpful. Diego at the bar was very nice, professional and provided great service.

We stayed 10 nights at "The Lodge". We could not have faulted the hotel in any respect. The staff are a true highlight showing the hotel\'s worthiness of being a 5* property. Magarida on reception helped us continuously throughout our stay and was always warm, friendly and welcoming to us in every interaction. At check in, the room was not available (we landed very early in the morning and did not expect to get checked in). Magarida very kindly telephoned us as soon as the room was available which was very thoughtful and convenient. Other staff of note was the entire team at breakfast, led by the very friendly and accommodating Ava and Henrique. Both of these staff members welcomed us with a smile each morning. They were also kind enough to give us recommendations of where to go and what to do whilst on holiday - Ava even wrote down a couple of local desserts that we had to try! There were so many pleasant waiting staff, unfortunately we didn\'t catch all their names. It was so lovely to wake up in the morning and go to a breakfast room that had such a lovely atmosphere. The hotel is very clean and the housekeeping staff are clearly very professional and look after the aesthetic of the hotel. Their nightly turn down service was appreciated, and we very much enjoyed our nightly chocolate or face cleansing towel. In terms of our VIP access status, we appreciated being allowed to check in early, a welcome letter from the manager and free bottle of wine and treats! Muito obrigado!!

I don’t enjoy leaving unflattering reviews, but our experience was so different than what I had expected (based on others’ reviews and the price point) that I’m sharing here. Issues: (1) By booking on Expedia, we were not only given the worst room (limited view, next to elevators, etc.) but were scolded by the reception staff for not booking directly with Marriott. We were also rudely dismissed when having inquired about a room change. (2) The bathrooms are not actually a separate (bath)room and are just a separate space in the bedroom. If you are traveling with someone, be prepared for no privacy regarding lights, sound, etc. (3) Dinner in the restaurant was just okay and way over-priced for what it was (though the service was pleasant). (4) Multiple times a day, there are huge tourist buses that drop off and pick up right outside the hotel, which means every time you come and go, you need to wade through dozens of tourists standing around the entrance. (5) Most of the attractions (churches, restaurants, cafes, shopping, tours, etc.) are on the other (city) side of the river, which means there’s a 25-35 minute walk each way, and even if you’re fit and healthy, there really is only one way across the river, so it’s the same trinket stands and tourist traps you pass by each time (and not a good use of time). Moreover, a taxi or Uber also takes 20+ minutes due to the traffic (congested by the tour buses and the limited number of bridges in/out of the city).

New and beautiful property and rooms with all the amenities. An extremely slow check in process. We were exhausted and just wanted to get to our room and shower but had to wait almost 45 minutes. The location, breakfast and incredible rooms made up for the slow check in process.

Upscale and in meticulous condition. In Gaia region but loved the extra steps walking across the bridge to Porto. Put the view from Gaia side of Porto is picture perfect. Breakfast was excellent.

Dejligt hotel med skøn udsigt over floden. Gåafstand til den gamle bydel. Det var beliggende på portvinshus siden. Fine værelser med smart tv og indbygget cromecast. Morgenmaden der bestod af både kolde og varme retter. Dertil mulighed for at bestille forskellige kaffe varianter, som blev serveret ved bordet. vi nød den opvarmede pool og solsengene hver eftermiddag når vi kom retur til hotellet. super fin beliggendhed til 4 dage i Porto.

The staff at the hotel were all friendly, attentive and helpful. We were initially unsure of the location with it being the other side of the river, but think this was the better location as everywhere was downhill on the way back, and you have a good view over Porto with lots of nice places to eat out!

We enjoyed the exceptional customer service at the Forte de Gaia. All the staff were amazing! We had booked a second-class room without a bathtub or historic view, and on our arrival we found this room overlooked the decommissioned swimming pool area that was being renovated by busy builders. Someone had left a fruit basket in the room, but we were unsure if this was an 'extra' so we decided not to touch it. The hotel is close to riverboat cruise liners but quite a long way from most attractions, athough we enjoyed the extra walking. The lifts took some working out! Some didn't go to where you wanted them to but they were always rekiable! The view from the restuarant at breakfast time is spoiled by inoperative patio heaters and closed-up parasols. Otherwise, a pleasant stay at a relaxed hotel.

This was one of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are spacious, the showers are fantastic and the beds are superb! The breakfast buffet rivals most hotels and the staff love being there. And, the location is close to numerous restaurants, port houses, and wineries, with a short walk across the bridge to the old city center.

This is in the top 5 best hotels I’ve ever visited! The facility is simply gorgeous. Due to the power outage in Portugal we had a lot of interaction with the staff, and they were incredibly supportive, kind, and friendly during the whole ordeal. Breakfast was amazing. I was sad to leave!

There is nothing negative to say about this hotel. The level of customer service from all members of staff is exemplary. The interior design throughout the hotel is amazing and the locality is ideal as it enables you to escape the crowds and noise of central Porto without missing the scenery. The dining experience in the Dona Maria restaurant should also not be missed as the views alone along with the food, wine and service are excellent (both breakfasts and dinner).

Vi fick ett mycket trevligt mottagande och servicen i receptionen kändes mkt trevlig. Rummet var mörkt men fint och hade viss utsikt över staden. Hela hotellet känns lyxigt och trevligt. Fint poolområde med bar utomhus där vi även åt lunch ett par gånger. Hotellets gym är mkt litet. Vi hade en del utmaningar på hotellet, när vi fick och la oss första natten upptäckte vi att kuddarna var mkt höga. Vi pratade med receptionen som endast kunde erbjuda barnkuddar, alla andra kuddar var höga. Det blev till att sova på två små bäbiskuddar. Andra dagen pratade vi med igen, men även då fanns inga låga eller normala kuddar. Så det blev bäbiskuddarna igen. Kändes inte så lyxigt eller skönt. Hotellet har underbar utsikt från sin restaurang där det också serveras frukost. Det går bra att sitta inne och ute. Två dagar i rad beställde vi omelett som båda dagarna glömdes bort. Kändes slarvigt och inte så bra service att behöva påminna, om igen. Frukosten var annars bra, kanske något mindre än vad man förväntar sig. Bäst av allt gillade vi läget på hotellet, utsikten och poolområdet.

Beautiful hotel a stones throw from the river in Gaia. Absolutely loved this hotel, the staff were helpful, the decor was 5 star, the pool area was amazing and the food was great too. I would definitely stay in this hotel the next time I visit Porto. Such a magical place.
