Holiday Inn Reading West by IHG

Just the one night stopover before the Isle of wight ferry. very friendly, curteous employees, a very tasty meal, a good nights kip and a relaxed breakfast. All went well.

Was part of many guests staying from a local wedding, venue was decent and rooms were clean - the bar wasn't open day or night! Much to the dissatisfaction of the majority of the guests.

Nice hotel in general with a bar and food available until 21:30 we added breakfast which was good value and plenty of choice. Only issue was the limited or zero connectivity either via wifi or mobile service. If you don't have a car you are reliant on the local taxi service which is a minimum of 20 min wait & most taxi journey are £25

An affordable hotel with good facilities. Its a slightly older hotel but is clean and well kept with a nice bar and dining area. The breakfast buffet is very good. The staff are friendly and polite.

Very good welcome from reception, clean friendly hotel. Excellent breakfast and feee parking. Very good indeed.

Reasonable stay initially was very slow to serve at the bar due to lack of staff then as time went on it improved and staff were very polite and courteous. Evening food was average at the restaurant but breakfast was excellent however the property externally looking very tired and required major improvements. The gardens needed a lot of care and since the day was very sunny we wanted to sit in the garden but was disappointing as it lacked a lot of attention looking at lots of weeds and scorched grass and beautiful but neglected almond trees

First impression was how big the car park was and how clean and welcoming the entrance looked, main reception staff were very welcoming and helpful,breakfast was really good ,so much to choose from. The room was comfortable, clean and very quiet.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Gentleman on reception went out of his way to come over and ask us if our room was ok and we were happy with everything, Property looks bit tired from outside but very nice inside and everywhere very clean.

Check in time changed on arrival. Paperwork & website said 2pm, receptionist said 3pm & never guaranteed anywhere. Slow service at lunch, 40 min wait for pancakes & pork sausage in a bun despite no other customers. No charge point or socket on one side of the bed. Bottom sheet on bed too small, didn't fit, not fitted, so moved with you when you turned over. Duvet not wide enough, only covered 3/4 of bed. Shower area in a poor state (see photos), broken & cracked pieces & slide rail adjuster not working and large gap behind extractor fan, not fitted properly.

The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff friendly. The hotel was quite conveniently located as we were attending a wedding reception in Aldermaston. The room rate through Expedia was far cheaper than going direct to the hotel itself, even after getting the discount for being a member of the hotel chain loyalty programme. I thought the breakfast charge of £12 per head a bit steep though.

Lovely and clean staff were polite friendly mostly. That aside the property is tired and dated the rooms could do with a complete overall from beds, furnishings decor. The drains in the bathroom were especially rancid the smell was atrocious...also not particularly nice hearing the person on the toilet from the next room.

Temperature of the room was set to 29 degrees. Very warm, there wasn’t a window to open but a smashed window that had plastic sheet over it. Mouldy milk found on the window seal. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful.

Lots of parking available, room was big and very clean would have liked to have had an opening window but sure they would have moved me if I had asked.

We used this hotel while walking the nearby Kennet & Avon Canal path. Friendly welcome. The room was spacious; the bed amazingly comfortable. Despite facing a main road, there was no road noise whatsoever due to the efficient triple glazing. A fridge would have been handy, but not a biggie. Room and bathroom very clean. Evening dinner and breakfast very good - tasty and fairly priced. Overall excellent value and would happily recommend and would use again if in the area.

Rooms need renovating The beds were so uncomfortable

The hotel appears to have been recently refurbished and everywhere is is very smart. The room was great and the breakfast very good. It was excellent value for money through your portal.

It needs triple glazing A4 traffic noise constant day and night. Shower head needed attention as it was not stable for water flow to be directed to body. Breakfast only ok scrambled egg awful. Did not have evening meal in hotel restaurant so unable to comment.

Loved it staff was friendly food was good room was lovely but not warm enough

The staff was fantastic. I didn’t have A/C in my room. They immediately ran to get me a fan and moved me the next day in to a new room. The staff was very helpful and hospitable. I stayed and had dinner there on a few of the nights on my week stay and every employee they had working were super friendly. Would stay there again.

I booked daughter and granddaughter in to stay a night when they visited for a weekend. They thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Especially the friendliness of the gentleman on the front desk. My granddaughter was made to feel very special being given hotel money to get a free treat from the bar. A lovely written note in the room wishing them a special stay so she left them a picture and a note to say thank you.

One of my worst hotel experiences. We had a one night stay booked as we were attending a local music event, and we were meeting with some friends also going to the same event. On arrival our room was not ready so we decided to get a drink. We ordered from the menu, but the girl behind the bar clearly had very little experience of knowledge of bar work and expected us to know which of the wines she showed us was the one we ordered. When our friends ordered a bottle of wine later, she asked which size we wanted, was it medium! All 6 of our group then ordered food at the bar. Four plates arrived after about 50 minutes, but the other 2 didn't. I went to ask to speak to a manager but was told there was not one on, but the two ladies at reception were dealing with things. I explained about our wait for food, now over an hour, and one lady said she would find out what was happening. By the time I was back at the table the final plates arrived, but I never saw the lady from reception again, no offer of apology etc. Three of the dishes ordered were a rice bowl, but none had any rice, and the third looked completely different to the other two. The outdoor seating area resembled a prison exercise yard and the hotel is in very poor condition. One pane of glass in our bedroom window had been replaced with a sheet of plastic screwed in to the frame. Overall a very poor experience, and not a cheap place either. It needs a major overhaul and staff training. The only good part was breakfast!!

Check in was a poor, arrived at 13.50 for a 14.00 check was advised room not ready. As check in was 15.00 The information from hotels.com was incorrect and the hotel were aware of the problem with hotels.com. the staff were first class, could not of been better probably the best holiday inn i have stayed in

The hotel has had a complete re furbish, and looks very good. Our room was super with a very nice and excellent shower room. The staff here are very friendly, and we had a lovely welcome when we checked in. My one comment would be that there needs to be an alternative way of ordering dinner, not everyone has a smart phone or wants to use the app. The food was very good, and a good breakfast buffet. Drinks at the bar are expensive though.

Check-in was fast and seamless. Staff very friendly in reception and bar. Food was very average in the bar/restaurant. Room was a little tired. AC did not work and was freezing cold, back-up Oil radiator didn't work (wouldn't power up). Staff were nice, just building and maintenance let them down.

Fantastic breakfast. The kind you'd expect to find in a 5 star hotel.

When I checked in I was asked if I wanted breakfast. I wasn't sure and stated that I would buy it in the morning if I did. I enquired as to the price and was told that it was £12. The next morning I did want the breakfast, and was told that the price was now £16.95. I queried this and was told that £12 was the day before price, something that the other staff member hadn't informed me, and I certainly couldn't guess that the price would change depending on when I bought it. Apart from that the room was average. The room was adjacent to the main road and the double glazing was poor with constant road noise in the room. I would not stay here again.
