Stayed 3 nights

We were in room 1 (101). The bed was smaller than a double and was well past its use by date. One side had been used a lot and the springs pinged each time you got off The whole pub showed a lake of care and maintenance. We would not stay here again

Stayed 4 nights

Room 221 was very spacious with patio doors onto a balcony and a window with a river view, a lovely bathroom with walk in shower and double aspect windows too. Unusual these days but very welcome for fresh air. Staff were very welcoming and the bar man/night manager was very helpful and hard working. Breakfast was good but didn’t have time time to try the new evening menu as we were out most days touring round Richmond, Middleton in Teesdale, and Barnard castle areas till late.

Stayed 2 nights

Music and talking from the bar below kept us awake for hours. Had to phone the reception, music finally stopped after 12.30. Beds not made on our middle night and no top up on water or tea supplies. Key didn’t work on second day. Breakfast was pretty grim, my requests were ignored. Staff not very friendly. Rooms were very warm, no fans. Location nice.

Had a good time at the George, good bar, choice of meals and excellent staff. We got this as a late deal and was a good spot for discovering the area
