Stayed 1 night

I booked a room here on the 16th July for the 21st. I got here around 915pm after driving from London. I was pretty tired. The staff here were friendly and polite. I ordered a drink and was handed a phone. The manager/owner informed me that the room I had booked and paid for was ‘double booked’, meaning I had no room at this venue. I was told - ‘you can get a refund or go to our ‘sister’ hotel. It was another 10 minutes up the road. I went there as I was exhausted. I got to the second hotel and went to my room. It was not the boutique room with a bath that I had booked. It was a cramped room with a smelly bathroom and a window that faced a security light - with a curtain made of tissue paper apparently. This allowed me to read my book without any of the room lights on at midnight! How fun. I am aware that hotels have different rooms and styles but I can’t remember a time when I was quite so disappointed. This was an unpleasant and upsetting experience that I will studiously try to avoid in future. I get that mistakes happen but I was offered ‘a drink’ as recompense and basically told ‘have a refund or go to our other hotel’ - it was 915pm in an area that I don’t know, far from most chain hotels. I had no options and I think I was truly done over.

Stayed 1 night

Although the suite itself was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable, unfortunately our stay was overshadowed by several issues. The lights in the room didn’t work properly, which was frustrating from the start. The door to the suite constantly rattled whenever the downstairs door opened and shut, and because of the lack of soundproofing you could hear every conversation from below. Noise was the biggest problem. There is no double glazing, so we could hear everything happening outside the property, including people shouting late into the night. There was also karaoke in the pub nearby which went on late, something we had no prior knowledge of. As a result, it was very difficult to relax or sleep. It’s a shame because the suite itself is attractive and the bed is comfortable, but none of that matters if you can’t actually sleep. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this property for anyone looking for a quiet or romantic night away.

Stayed 2 nights

The property itself was a lovely upstairs room, generous in size and very close to the rail station with a direct line to Edinburgh. We had a two night stay and found the bed to be very comfortable. A generous soak bath tub is in the main bedroom. Little snacks were a pleasant gift. Small issues were disappointing. On arrival there was no soap in the container and We were disappointed that despite asking for the room to be serviced, the soap was not replenished, toilet paper not replenished and the bin not emptied. The main lights in the room and overhead bedaide lights were not working. We had not previously experienced a "virtual check in" and as we had elected to pay at the property, did not appreciate we would not receive the entry codes until paymentis received. The problem was, there is no one on site to pay!. This meant a one hour delay waiting outside the property while we tracked down the duty manager via messaging and phone calls to arrange over the phone payment. These negatives however should not outweigh what is a nice property. With attention to detail this would have had a higher rating.
