The best thing about the Gaia hotel was the staff. Everyone was universially friendly, professional and proactive. The breakfast was exceptionally good: a great variety; hot and cold options; a wide variety of organic and dairyfree choices. The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and the public rooms were attractive and well-apponted. My bedroom was spacious, up to date, had great bedding, good climate control and a lovely bathroom. There was a fridge with complimentary beverages as well as coffee and tea making amenities. The sauna was a unique and pleasurable addition. This hotel was an amazing value, especially if utilised with the Basel pass ( free local transport and 1/2 price museum tickets). I would highly recommend!

Staff members Yves, Ciro and Karen at the front desk were friendly, efficient and helpful, especially with making our Spa reservations. The young woman in breakfast was also very friendly and attentive and makes a lovely cappuccino! Room 353 was spacious and quiet. Very nice bathroom and lovely towel heater. There was an unpleasant smell in the room when we first entered but it dissipated after we opened the windows for a few hours and didn’t return during the remainder of our visit. Bed was very comfortable, quality linens, nice amenities. Items in minibar are complimentary. Breakfast was delicious! Fresh-squeezed orange juice, tasty pastries and breads, Bircher muesli was very good. Room is gorgeous! Location near the train station was very convenient! Very quiet and a great place to base yourself at for exploring Basel by tram with the free Basel transport ticket provided by the hotel. Sauna and kniepp pool in the spa were a welcome treat each night after our long days of exploring Basel’s museums. Very clean. Massages also available but we didn’t use that service. If you’re looking for a wonderful family-owned hotel in a great location and comfortable rooms with delicious breakfast, look no farther than the Gaia. Will stay here again when we return to Basel!

Det har været genialt med hotellets placering i forhold til offentlig transport og generel let adgang til byen! Du får et Basel Card af hotellet ved ankomst som betyder du kan få 50 % på flere seværtigheder (kunstmuseet, gondol, teater mm.) og så kan man køre gratis med offentlig transport. Det brugte vi hver dag og det er så nemt at tage deres tram rundt. Morgenmaden var upåklagelig. Der var det der skulle være med flere slags æg, brød, kødpålæg, oste, yoghurt og morgenmadsprodukter mm. Kaffen var vi måske ikke så begrejstret over men der var mange slags te og juice. Personslet var meget venlige hele vejen igennem. Værelse var fint rent og havde mange lækre detaljer med sæber og vasketøjspose for bare at nævne få ting. Der var ingen støj hvilket vi vsr overrasket over med den placering. Vi sov ellers med vinduerne åbnet. Og så blev minibaren fyldt op med vand hver dag. Alt igennem et upåklageligt ophold og så fil vi endda ikke engang prøvet spaen.

Our one-night stay was perfect. The entire staff was lovely. Our room was perfectly clean and bright. We were offered one-time half price tickets to local venues which we took advantage of. Breakfast was superb in a most beautiful dining room.

Breakfast amazing - catering for all dietary requirements (I'm coeliac and the bread rolls were the best I've had!) Staff wonderful...free mini bar and chocolates... Can't find anything to complain about!

There is a good breakfast which is nicely presented and offers plenty to eat without being outstanding The hot selection is poor and was not ready at 6.30 when I (and at least half a dozen other people) went down. The only real problem is not specific to this hotel: very poor value for money. This is true for Switzerland in general. Even countries that are not exactly cheap--like the Nordic nations--offer better hotels at more reasonable prices.

The room was extremely hot, because there air conditioning absolutely useless!!! We switched rooms but it’s still didn’t work. We had to add two fans into the room to have some movement of air. The heat in the room made us sick. Very disappointed.

Pleasant staff, clean room with good facilities including bath robes, slippers, nice shower and bath amenities. Free mini bar was appreciated. Comfortable pillows and bed linen. Great location near the main railway station and tram stop. Lovely breakfast area and selection of food. All in all an excellent stay and would definitely return. And free water and snack on checking out was a nice touch. Free travel card which also could be used on bus to the airport. Fantastic service.

Lovely room. Only issue was husband hitting head on angles as we were on top floor. Breakfast was awesome. Staff incredibly helpful. In room fridge nice for water, tea, beer and wine that was included with room. Great location near train station, easy to catch buses, trams and trains. Added bonus was coop store next door

Loved our stay here. Checkin was easy and quick. Staff were all nice and very helpful nothing was an issue. Especially Soraya and Caio, but everyone we dealt with were great. Soraya checked us in and gave us lots of information. Loved the Basel pass to get free trams and 1/2 price to many attractions. Room 340 was nice had a bath tub, the glass tiles on the bathroom ceiling was strange but just go with it. Room was big enough bed was comfortable , pillows too soft but they had a pillow menu so we quickly change. minibar came with the room but the drinks are all organic and tasted terrible lol. Not my kind of minibar. Breakfast room is beautiful and breakfast is organic as well however would have like already sliced bread as i dont cut bread very well lol. Still had plenty of choices for everyone. We stayed 2 nights and left our bags while we went down to lucerne for a night and then came back and checked back in for another night and holding all our bags no issue even put them up in our room for when we return. Nothing was a issue. Well done to everyone at Gaia Hotel. Only negative would be the trams can be a bit noisy.

Staff members Yves, Ciro and Karen at the front desk were friendly, efficient and helpful, especially with making our Spa reservations. The young woman in breakfast was also very friendly and attentive and makes a lovely cappuccino! Room 353 was spacious and quiet. Very nice bathroom and lovely towel heater. There was an unpleasant smell in the room when we first entered but it dissipated after we opened the windows for a few hours and didn’t return during the remainder of our visit. Bed was very comfortable, quality linens, nice amenities. Items in minibar are complimentary. Breakfast was delicious! Fresh-squeezed orange juice, tasty pastries and breads, Bircher muesli was very good. Room is gorgeous! Location near the train station was very convenient! Very quiet and a great place to base yourself at for exploring Basel by tram with the free Basel transport ticket provided by the hotel. Sauna and kniepp pool in the spa were a welcome treat each night after our long days of exploring Basel’s museums. Very clean. Massages also available but we didn’t use that service. If you’re looking for a wonderful family-owned hotel in a great location and comfortable rooms with delicious breakfast, look no farther than the Gaia. Will stay here again when we return to Basel!

We had a wonderful stay. The front desk made the check-in run smoothly. Answered our questions and recommended a wonderful restaurant down the street. It used to be a post office. In the morning we had a great breakfast. Would recommend strongly this hotel. Such a nice town.

Best feature is the staff . Very helpful and helped our group of 22 people a lot. From dinner reservations and directions on where to go. They even prepare a boxed /buffet breakfast because most of us are leaving early . Will stay here again.

You get free public transportation on the trams, which makes it easy to get anywhere you want to go. The breakfast was great with lots of variety. We were travelling with our infant and they were able to provide a travel crib free of charge. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The building is very nice, the room was spacious with two chairs and a desk. The TV has a lot of channels in English French Italian and German. The bed and linens were very nice and everything was very clean. The location is very convenient because it’s 50 yards across the street from the train station. There are trams going to all parts of the city and you can get to the historical district in five minutes. There’s also a bus to the airport that comes every eight minutes. All these transport options are free with a card provided by the hotel. In comparison, a taxi costs 50 CHF every 15 minutes. The only caveat is that the train station is not the nicest area in town.

What a lovely, charming hotel. The staff were great, especially Nicholas who went out of his way to help us navigate and suggest things. The breakfast and breakfast staff were great too. Highly recommend for the wonderful location and access to transportation.

Great spot just over the road from the station. Supermarket next door and in the station. Staff are excellent and very helpful. Explained everything I needed to know at check in. Basel card was brilliant used it on the trams a lot. Great breakfast, even got gluten free bread. Good range of things. Very quiet hotel, bed was excellent. Had a great stay here and would highly recommend.
