Another pleasant stay great value really friendly welcome and nice rooms. Free parking and a good selection of food and drink.

Weather was very poor unfortunately but the hotel was excellent, the room was first class and there was an excellent bar. Poor weather and cool temperatures in early September would catch out any establishment and so it would be fair to say we were quite cold at times. The restaurant was good but would benefit from a little more organisation as far as members of staff were concerned.

This hotel is in an excellent location. There is plenty of parking. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly and polite and everywhere is spotlessly clean.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. No lift so be aware of this if you have disability needs you'd best request ground floor. Parking plentiful. Overall it's a charming example of a hotel which still has character...no key cards here!

Fantastic place to stop half way from Midlands to Cornwall. Staff were excellent and bar and restaurant brilliant. Highly recommend.

Slightly dated hotel but that’s the only negative . Easy parking , friendly reception , nice bar / restaurant area . Reasonably priced drinks . Clean comfortable room , decent wifi, big TV in room , good bed , good shower . Would definitely recommend !

For the price this place was awesome...wish i had used the Bar & Restaurant as looked very good.

I’m well into 30+ stays good size rooms good staff free parking and breakfast starts at 7 am. Wi-Fi works well.

The room was not what was shown in the picture, very dated, hadn't been hoovered, there was mould around the bath and the shower curtain could do with a wash and there was a smell of damp.

Uncomfortable bed and not clean

Great location for my family to stay at for a wedding at Hestercombe. Hotel is a bit dated but comfy. Bed and bathroom were clean although shower curtain needed changing. Carpets are worn and needed good hoover. Food in restaurant is excellent. Staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Staff were courteous. The room was spacious, but very tired. The carpet was stained and there was black mould stains all over the bath/shower, with a stained shower curtain. The bedside lamps were thick with dust and I had fiddle to get them to get them to switch on. The TV was also switched off at the wall so I had to go behind to switch it on. There didn't appear to be many guests over Christmas so it was a shame that it felt I had been put in a room that wasn't prepared fully for someone to stay in. The bed was comfortable and the linen of good quality and clean. I was disappointed to be given a room directly over the bar, facing the main road as it was quite noisy. Luckily I was literally just sleeping there as I was visiting family over Christmas. This was my second stay at this hotel and was disappointed on this occasion. If it wasn't for it being walking distance to my family's home, I would have stayed for a lot less at the Premier Inn. Previously I believe I was in room 11, this time I was in room 7. For this occasion, it was clean and comfortable to sleep in, but i wouldn't recommend it as a room to spend any more time in.

A short stay on the way to Devon for our anniversary. The hotel Good breakfast well cooked and good choice of cerials, fruit etc. Decor a little tired and dated needing a refresh The carpets in the room, stairs and coridors need deep cleaning or replacement.

In the 1st instance the hotel was very nice then we went to the room to find lots of cobwebs high and low down in the room also skirting boards were very dusty i dont think cleaners know what they are doing , apart from that we had a pleasant stay staff were amazing, restaurant was really nice food was excellent staff were very accommodating. Could not fault the service would definitely stay again was nice and relaxing.

I booked a few months ago and was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms were spotless could do with a touch up here and there but nothing tearing. The breakfast was fresh beautifully cooked and delicious. The staff were brilliant friendly and always on hand if needed. Would definitely come back.

Dated hotel and dusty ornaments in dining room. Bed and bathroom were clean which was main thing but room needed good hoover. Breakfast on first morning was fab but very different second day. Staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Evening food in restaurant was really good. Was ok base for our family to stay for local wedding. Good price

Lovely hotel. Staff were efficient & friendly. Room was spotless & very comfortable. The ingredients for the cooked breakfast were really excellent. My only slight negative was a berry compote would have been nice as part of the buffet selection. I highly recommend this hotel & will definitely be staying there again.

We stayed one night (2nd November) to attend the Guy Fawkes Bridgwater Carnival. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Very clean and bed comfortable.

Nice public areas. In need of some refurbishment and updating in bedrooms

Nice spacious room, however no air con, and no fan either meant sleeping with the windows open which tended to be noisy. Great breakfast and plenty of choice.

Had a lovely weekend here to celebrate 40 years of being a couple (just girlfriend and boyfriend before advancing to engaged and then married). We had the Presidential Suite. Really surprised by the sheer size of the suite. 2 x TV\'s, shower/bath and 2 x washbasins. Humongous bed and a Corby trouser press in the bedroom as well. We had dinner on the first night in their restaurant. The meal portions were elgenerous and well presented. I can normally do a 3 course meal, but we were unable to order a dessert as we were full. For me, they also had a nice beer called "Otter Ale". We were intending to eat in their restaurant on Sunday as well, but as the main al la carte menu had been swapped to a Roast dinner type, we dined elsewhere as Restaurant/pub roasts is not a meal we enjoy (personal preference and nothing to do with the hotel). All the staff were very helpful, polite and not in your face when eating or drinking. The Manager - Daniel, tried to point out where we could buy Otter Ale from but wheee he said - did not sell it - although Morrisons in Bridgewater did, luckilly! The breakfasts were all very tasty and presented nicely, although I fid find that the large white square plates that the full English was served on was to big for the table and I had to ask for for the smaller plate. Would we stay there again? Yes, very much so!

Very comfortable stay here, lovely spacious room (just a basic double) and good size bathroom. A little tired looking in areas however clean and comfortable, can’t fault it. Staff are friendly and helpful, excellent WiFi, plenty of parking. We ate evening meal, it was a Sunday so roast dinner and it was lovely. Varied menu for Mon to Sat, good choice and reasonable prices. Breakfast was varied and excellent quality. We will most definitely stay here again, great value for money.

Room a bit dated

This property was hard to fault. Large room with everything we needed. We had a room on the road which brought in traffic noise. An exhaust fan in the ensuite would be nice. Other than those two things it was great.

Lovely large modern room, quiet and comfortable. Excellent breakfast served by lovely staff.

Good service dispute being very short of staff

The cleanliness of the hotel couldn't be faulted. The hotel seemed to be understaffed. We booked a table for dinner on Saturday 15th Feb. The woman behind the bar gave us menus. Then proceeded to ignore us and avoid eye contact for 25 mins. She cleaned the bar and removed glasses rather than take our food order. When i asked if she would take it, she replied she'd be with me in 2 mins with a scowl! Needless to say we left without eating. It was very poor service. We managed to get a last minute table at The Compass Tavern restaurant down the road. The food and service there was prompt and excellent.

The hotel looked tired and of need of an update. The room was a lovely size but again it looked tired and in need of an update. The food was great but on one occasion we sat for over 3 and a half hours to just have a 2 course evening meal, service was very poor. It looked like they were very under staffed in the kitchen. But all in all a relaxing stay was had.

The hotel is clearly understaffed but comfortable. Check in took an age as the receptionist was working the bar/restaurant. Day 2 I had to wait 10 minutes to be seated, and then wait again for my order to be taken. Despite leaving the card on the door for the room to be serviced, it was missed and the card put on the inside of my door. Check out, and again no one around and had to call to get the receptionist from the restaurant to check me out. The room was comfortable, and decent car parking, just needs an extra staff member or 2.

Great place to stay to break journey on the way south.

I enjoyed my 1 night stay. It was in a very convenient location between Bridgewater and Taunton, had very helpful staff and good food. Bed was comfortable. The extra perk was the location is near to Pyne’s which is a super farm shop.

The property is a little dated and there was no lifts to the part of the hotel my room was in, so if you have limited mobility or don’t want to carry your suitcase up a few flights of stairs ensure you ask for a room on the ground floor. Rooms are clean and warm, shower worked well, plenty of parking, hotel is in a quiet location and just opposite a small Tesco express which was really handy. So was fine for my short notice work trip. I didn’t eat in the restaurant.

Lovely location. Quiet - occasionally interrupted by the curch bells from across the road - added charm for us. Excellent food, friendly and efficient staff. Very good price. Would stay here again.

Quiet, quaint village hotel. Friendly and accommodating. Variety of room sizes. Excellent menu, tomato soup was exceptional. Will stay again.

The walnut hotel was great, large spicious room. There was heat on as needed. The breakfast was included and big pleniful. Location is a good stop heading north west.

Nice stay for such price. Good location and very tasty breakfast! All was great, I will definitely stay here once again if I travel nearby.

Lovely place convenient for all the tourist areas

Always a pleasure to return to the Walnut Tree. Staff are amazing and the food outstanding, with a vast choice at both dinner and breakfast. Easy access from the M5, with a Tesco Express and a beautiful church opposite, which is well worth a visit. This was our 4th stay and we would not hesitate to return.

Another very enjoyable stay excellent breakfast and Sunday dinner. Staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel.

The room was very nice and it was clean however when we arrived it was really cold as the heating wasn't on. We reported this to lady at reception and she apologised and switched it on. It didn't warm up for a long time so we had to sit under blankets. We didn't eat in the restaurant as there didn't appear to be any vegan options. We did use the bar which was pleasant, cosy and WARM.

We had Sunday lunch and breakfast, the food was amazing, and the service was great.

The food at The Walnut Tree is excellent as is the service and the staff. The hotel is showing its age a bit in the bedroom but it was nonetheless very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room and the water in the bathroom were both very warm. The restaurant is worth a visit even if you’re not staying overnight.

nice traditional hotel, room was nicely appointed and quiet, extra touches were nice e.g. the iron and ironing board, well stocked tea and coffee, biscuit, comfy bed, reasonably modern bathroom with shower, hot water always available. Restaurant meal choices were above my expectation and quite different to the usual pub fayre.

Nice room with comfortable bed and great shower. Superb breakfast with lots of choice. Helpful and attentive staff.

Dinner took a loooong time to arrive. 1 hour from order. It was good when it arrived but several diners had the same experience.
