Tired and old but functional rooms. Did have a mouldy smell and the heating isn’t customer led so we had no heat in the room. Bed was comfortable plenty of towels and bedding. Curtains were dirty and need replacing. Bathroom had a shower curtain which did look used. Pool and spa facilities were ok but again very dated and needs a good scrub. Bar area lovely as were the staff. Breakfast other than needing to keep asking for the food and plates to be replenished was excellent.

We used this hotel for a reunion of about 35 people. Also booked in was a wedding party. Both the Fri and more so on Saturday they ran out of most of draught beers and lagers! Having to mix our drinks is not good. Lack of planning by management. Staff behind the bar were excellent and apologetic even though it was not their fault. Very disappointed on that aspect of the service.

The room was comfortable but you could tell the age of the building with peeling paint and old decor. The corners had cobwebs and spiders and the windows were filthy so couldn’t see very clearly outside. Pool was lovely although wasn’t aware we would have to share the pool with swimming lessons.

Only a long weekend stay staff were friendly a bit noisy on the first evening in the bar due to football coaches watching the international, breakfast was exceptional the lift was unavailable and had been for sometime. The interior could be improved our room although was clean looked dated and not enough electrical sockets for modern users with electronics. Car park could do with being marked with lines, and the outside garden could do with some .maintenance

I was staying over for a football match the Bolton Ground is about a mile away. Room was a nice size and clean. Decent bar and brilliant breakfast for £9. Only downside the Pool is now closed.

Not for me. Got rid of two flies when i arrived (windows were closed) and had to deal with 4 more before i went to sleep, with a feint buzzing still annoying me as i nodded off. Shower was practically non functional, coughing up water like it had some kind of lung disease. Staff were pleasant when present. I made 3 calls to reception for 1 issue. The phone rang out until it cut off twice.

Mercure used to have a decent reputation but after this stay that reputation (personally) is in tatters !! Dated, shabby room that hadn’t been properly cleaned or maintained for a good while. Without power for hours one evening - I thought hotels would have back up generators ?

Sadly, the bad outweighed the good here. "Spa" hotel - holds kids swim lessons all day in the pool. Heavily stained duvet and pillows (sheets looked clean). Smelt of damp throughout building. Staff very helpful, just had to find them first. Ample parking. No plugs near the bed. Safes not working, told none of them did. Ceiling of pool area rusting and falling apart, they have a net up to catch the pieces. Breakfast selection not too bad. Overall, not quite the relaxing break anticipated.

Property was very dated, room had an odour resemble wet dog, shower didn’t work, door was so stiff I had to ask a member of staff to help open it. Said staff member was very friendly so that was something.

Stayed at this hotel numerous times, AVOID room 781 as its next to a generator or other noisy machine which hummed all night and then ramped up at 4:30am. Impossible to sleep through!!! There was also a badly stained bath towel. The bedrooms are tired looking but generally clean hence our return visit, not sure we’ll return again unless we can request a room. Apart from this, everything else was ok for the price.

This is a poor hotel. The room was very small and too hot. We opened the window to find a bank of air conditioner fans outside and the noise was awful. Had a close the window to sleep. The shower over the bath was awkward to use and the shower curtain just kept sticking to you. A screen would be better. We paid for breakfast but a waste of money. Food was lukewarm at its warmest! Definitely don't do breakfast, better options on Middlebrook.

Not sure where to start with this one! Some of these issues are clearly outside of the hotels control, but many could have been resolved. Lets start: the hotel was probably amazing in 1980, however, the decor looks like it hasn't been touched since. The bathroom was a throwback to a by-gone era! Toilet flush was intermittent at best, shower was little more than a trickle of mildly-warm water. The walls / floors were so thin (or poorly sound insulted) that my partner and I heard every word of next doors conversations, and then the unfortunate situation of hearing some very strong toilet habits from the room above us! The bed was tiny and possibly the most uncomfortable thing I've tried to sleep on in years. No air-con / ability to cool the room down & it was roasting hot in there. Children running / screaming up and down corridors (which I know is outside of the hotels control, but didn't create a great impression) just added to the general misery of the hotel. Breakfast was half price during our stay, and I still over paid for it! I wasn't sure it was possible to ruin hash browns, but whoever was in charge of cooking breakfast, surely managed it! The only positive from the hotel was how pleasant and friendly the staff were during our stay. Overall, would avoid like the plague.

We took an evening away for ourselves before the Christmas craziness. The room had a lovely view of Winter Hill and the huge bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and professional. We would definitely stay again.

We arrived at the property to be told the lift wasn’t working and our room was on the 3rd floor . 6 flights of stairs later we arrived in room 886 small room in the eves of the building . Needed a lick of paint it looked tired and the bathroom was old with mould around the bath . . Also £34 for a bottle of cheap red wine was a joke ! On the upside staff were friendly, breakfast was very good pretty much everything you want . Will I be staying here again probably not

The check-in was the only part of our stay I can genuinely praise. The room was booked for two people but was only prepared for one. It was extremely hot, and despite turning off the heating and opening the windows, the temperature remained unbearable. It wasn’t until well past midnight that someone finally came to the room, only to suggest we open the window a bit more. We were told we could check out late, which turned into another disaster. A very rude young lady nearly kicked the door down at 11am normal check out tome and abruptly told us to leave. When we asked to speak to a manager at the front desk, we were told the night staff had indeed passed on the late check-out message but no manager was available. I was assured that the manager would contact me. We’re still waiting… Yep, still waiting. I’ll update this review if that ever changes.

We arrived at the hotel quite late in the evening and were given our room without any issues. While the room was clean, it was incredibly dated and, more importantly, had paper-thin walls. We could hear everything happening in the rooms around us. I went to reception to ask if anything could be done, and to their credit, they offered us a room swap. However, while I was discussing options with the receptionist, my partner texted me saying the couple next door had started having sex - and it sounded like they were in the room with him. Not exactly the relaxing night we had in mind. We accepted the room change, but unfortunately, the new room wasn't much better. It was uncomfortably hot (no air conditioning in the hotel), and with a busy street right outside the window, opening it for fresh air only meant dealing with traffic noise. I appreciate the staff’s willingness to help, but overall the experience was poor and I would not recommend staying here.

Stayed over as it was only 10 minutes away from my Christmas party venue. Really easy to get to, close to transport links and Middlebrook retail park (lots of breakfast/ dining options). Room was a little dated and there was a slight hole in one of the chairs but more than comfortable for what I needed. Would stay here again

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are not large but the bathroom has plenty of space. The pool area is good but the facilities could use some attention. There was some sort of party in the hotel that made it difficult to sleep so we had to change rooms but the staff were accommodating. There didn't appear to be much to see or do within walking distance.

The hotel was clean and the bath/shower was fine. However, the food and staff were shocking, both for dinner and breakfast. Staff don't carry notepads so 8 ordered one main in 4 parts and as expected it came out wrong from the kitchen meaning it had to be sent back, which led to a cold dinner 10mins later when the heat lamp failed to keep the chips warm. Despite there being barely 3 tables at either meal no one seemed interested in helping. At breakfast I had to dig through the plates to find one not crusted with egg. The pastries, bread, and juices weren't stocked despite the quiet morning. The room was cold and on turning on the radiator, which was set to off in winter, there was no heat and the noise was horrendous, I recommend getting servicing in to bleed these and make sure they are working.

i stay away in hotels twice a week with work so rarely bother to leave reviews unless very good or very bad. this was the latter. staff were good, no issues there. room tired and in need of decoration, as was the hotel. shower was pathetic, could only get warm water not hot and power was rubbish. the worst thing was the food. only bar food available. only 5 starters to chose from, they only had 3. only 6 or 7 mains, two were off the menu. so it was basically a burger or a pizza. i chose burger, i wish i hadn't. very poor. and the starter i chose was crispy squid rings, (they had run out of chicken hot wings) , these were squidgy squid rings, undercooked. the group of 7 guys sat next to me were not eating, until dominos delivered, i see why now, and the 2 guys behind the bar were waiting on their chinese take away to be delivered rather than eat the hotel food, which i guess they must get at a discount. But that was understandable also, i wish i had chosen take away food. all in all a very poor stay. will not be returning

The beds were exceptionally comfortable and clean. The rooms were a little dated but the main areas of the hotel we model and smart. One of the nicest breakfasts I have had and the food for the evening was of a high standard. All staff were really helpful and friendly.

The staff was very friendly and did a great job, disappointed on the general condition of the place, looks old and a bit tatty. Website says the the spa has massage facility (they dont and havent had since covid). It also says that the pool is adults only after 7.30pm, not whilst i was there. Anoying that the lockers are "bring your own padlock" as when im travelling i dont tend to carry one. Kitchen is apparently open until 9pm unless you want to order at 8.40pm then its closed!
