Macdonald Spey Valley Resort

Cleanliness was poor - we booked a dog friendly lodge (at a extra cost) but still don't expect to have mould on the curtains, lots of other dog hair as an extra carpet and on soft furnishings. Needs a bit of TLC all round and a lick of paint. Used the pool and sauna which was good, but the jacuzzi was out of use. Staff that we spoke to were welcoming and helpful but we didn't address cleanliness until we left. They offered a small refund of half of our dog fee.

Great location and although the chalet was dated it was clean, comfortable and well equipped. On paper the Resort has a range of sport/leisure facilities but in practice they are run down and not really available. The pool closed several times during our stay - chlorine, water temperature issues - and the sports hall looked abandoned. Very sad as it could be fantastic, but staff seemed complacent/not bothered about promoting facilities. Would stay for the location but the place needs a good shake up.

Great experience. Easy check in and checkout the gym could do with an update, the Jacuzzi was being worked on but hey you dont really go to this resort for the stay more the area in my opinion.

Beautiful place located inbetween mountains. Its quit and serene beauty. We booked a chalet which had fully equipped kitchen. Bedding, Linen and towels were of good quality. Resort have badminton, pool, tennis, football pitch and a swimming pool as well. We enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend it.

Excellent resort to stay with kids and dog. The accommodation is a great size, beds are comfy and the resort is clean. The resort itself is dated but the location and the size of the apartments make it worrhwhile. Kids loved the badminton and tennis. Pool is great for kids too We will definitely be back again

Stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment, no 14 for 2 nights with family. Supplied with everything you need for washing dishes. Pool was good, you dont have to reserve a time and they supplied towels. Would stay there again

A great centre to explore Aviemore and the beauty of the Cairngorms A few disappointing things: On arrival to the chalet the hoover was left in the middle of the living room floor, when we went to use the oven there was a filthy baking tray covered in fat that I had to scrub before use. The jacuzzi in the pool was out of action and has been for months… that’s one of the pull factors to stay here so disappointing that it’s not in use. The chalet was dated with woodwork and doors with dents scratches and lack of paintwork. On departure whilst on route to reception at 10:14 I received a call from reception in an unwelcoming tone stating that i may need to pay a charge for checking out late not the kind of service you expect for a brand like macdonald.

This propertybwas in a quiet location and was very comfy obly downside was the pool was closed 2 out of 3 days and thlack of commincation to advise you could use the pool at the hotel waa none. Was not told about the pool closing at 7pm for adult only so when i had a disappointed little boy i they had to question why another child was still in the pool and was told quite clearly they had asked thenm to leave but also added what do you want me to do "fish them out' x2...this waa very rude!!! The folder in the chalet tells you the swimming is open until 8pm then adult swimming from 8-9pm...all very confusing.

When we arrived we were told the leisure facilities were open however the pool was cold and jacuzzi not working, but it would be fixed soon. It was not fixed the while stay. The indoor leisure facilities was one of the main reason for choosing this resort. The apartment had only 2 small saucepans to cook in an apartment that can sleep 8

We stayed in Alvie, number 4, and I have to say it was very cozy and warm. The facilities on the holiday park are excellent and there is something for every age group.

Really not sure what to make of this. The chalet was spacious enough, and well equipped in the kitchen, though some of it was very old. This would have been fine if kept clean, but parts hadnt been cleaned in a very long time. The carpet down the side of the bed was thick with dust, layers of dirt on skirting boards etc. It's clear the cleaners just give it a quick wipe instead of actually scrubbing the place. There were however maintenance people out painting and looking after the grounds. The pool was odd, the water was cloudy and the bottom was full of sand. It was warm enough for my children though. The changing was poor, only one family changing cubicle. The restaurant wasn't great. They say they're a steakhouse but only offer 2 steaks, and the sirloin one of us ordered wasn't cooked particularly well. The other food was ok, but not hot enough. Good points: the staff were all friendly, the playpark is good, the walk along to the town is easy. Given all of this, we still had a good break.

The property is beautiful and managed very good. The patio was awesome thw view was incredible. Bathrooms and rooms were very clean. The visitor center and the swimming pool was little far from the patio.

Bin bags full of the last people’s rubbish was left outside the door and their dirty bedsheets in porch area that hadn’t been taken away before our check in time. Cooking utensils etc were old and stained and felt like u didn’t want to use them because they looked dirty. Only one bath towel was provided for 4 people I heard other people complain to reception that they had no towels for their accommodation either. There was no towels provided for swimming 3 days in a row that we went but they used the same excuse each day that there had been a power cut. When we arrived nobody was in reception I waited about 5 mins before somebody tried to help with my enquires but said he couldn’t it turned out he was the maintenance guy that would explain why when I tried to ring allday the day before arriving nobody answered the phone as there was numerous occasions throughout our stay that reception was unattended. The Jacuzzi was out of service throughout our 4 night stay. They never had any entertainment information and said I would have to go back later or the next day so that they could get some printed off. I would actually ask for a refund if I thought I’d any chance of getting one.

We were so impressed with the quality of the accommodations and how friendly and helpful the staff was. Our chalet was spacious and beautiful, and impeccably clean - I absolutely recommend!

Has a nice bar and restaurant. A short walk about 20mins takes you into Aviemore centre. We enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

They have a nice pool and a restaurant but we didn’t get to try it as staffing was low so they couldn’t open. Staff are friendly and helpful when available but we couldn’t get anyone to pickup phone after 9pm. Overall we were happy with our stay but would likely try another b&b or hotel next time we visit to see what else is out there.

Love Aviemore so booked the Spey valley lodges. The lodges are starting to look quite run down, especially the outside with peeling paint. The inside is a little dated but was clean enough. One of the single beds had no bottom sheet on it and a dead spider lying between blanket.Obviously this bed was not made up fresh. Check in is 5pm and checkout was 10am I find this utterly ridiculous. I did enjoy the onsite restaurant and bar. Staff were nice. I would come again but not at the prices they charge and checking should be earlier.

I have stayed previously but found the apartment quite run down. Broken kitchen plinth, broken conservatory chair, chipped & stained paintwork, stained carpets. Definitely needs a repaint and new, easily cleaned flooring

The apartment was spacious for the two of us, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen had a good range of appliances and the lounge had comfortable seating.

A very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The apartment was excellent, clean, spacious and lovely surrounding views.

Property was in a very poor state of repair which was reported to the Reception the following day. Missing cutlery (i.e. only had 1 dinner knife and 3 side plate knives, 2 dinner forks and 2 desert forks). Pillows were lumpy and hard. All the staff would say it would be reported to maintenance tea. The balcony was split and totally unsafe and should have been addressed immediately and it was not/

We enjoyed our stay. This was our 3rd stay there. The apartment was clean and comfortable however had really noisy floorboards, and really poor wifi. Bar/restaurant staff really friendly.

Overall for what we paid it was good value for money, staff were excellent but the property is in serious need of upgrades, it’s still very much a 1980s property, clean enough but it’s not as comfortable as it once was, it was better 15+ years ago when I last stayed and it was tired looking then, I paid a fair price when using my £134 key cain rewards but not sure paying full price would’ve been worth it, a serious upgrade and it could get a serious boost, the food was fair but limited with choice, not sure a steakhouse would be a fair description, again a bit more choice and it could be a busier place, it wasn’t busy at all any of the nights we were in, the lack of choice of food on the menu may have a part in that too.

Check in was quick and easy as was finding our chalet. Stayed in chalet 1 and the chalet itself was clean and tidy however definitely tired and in need of a refurb. Nothing was broken or anything but a lot of paint scraped and dated furniture and fittings. The grounds of the resort were lovely and lots of nice dog walks nearby. A short walk into town so good location wise. Great for families or dogs as had plenty of space and tranquility around you. Didn’t use the leisure facilities and ate in the bar one night as the dog isn’t allowed in the restaurant unfortunately so missed a lot of menu items due to this. Overall happy with our stay and would stay again purely down to the setting and location of the chalets rather than a hotel. But please update the chalets a little to modernise them somewhat. No bedside tables meant no where to put a book or glass or your phone and the bathroom was dated.

Good location, parking and friendly staff. We arrived late at night and it was disappointing not to have any tea or coffee at all but I understand. The Wi-Fi was patchy and didn’t work at all on the morning of our departure and the bed was very soft. The staff were very helpful and the site felt safe.

Property was good, Silent and good pool. Communication was v bad, they weren't picking up the call anytime. I checked in around 9 pm and checked out a bit late and they charged me 29 gbp extra !! 😢

The lodges are great. However we had trouble contacting the resort to let them know we would be late

We went to ski in the Cairngorms so the location was perfect only 20min away. The lodge was convenient after hours too as it was on the outskirts of Aviemore with plenty of places to enjoy a drink or dinner and supermarkets to stock up the fridge for breakfasts in our accommodation. The second bedroom was a little small for a second couple but we had plenty of communal space to relax inside. We didn't need the conservatory which i am sure in the summer months would be inviting but a bit chilly in January with snow outside. The staff we encountered were all extremely helpful and the inclusive log delivery service was a unexpected. All in all terrific value and above expectiations.

Clean room, helpful staff in the restaurant as two members of the group were gluten free.

A poor start when they failed to answer any of my emails, but my call was answered. The lodges, especially on the outside, were tired and a bit tatty, but everything was clean and functional. Beds were good and pillows were great. Very well equipped for self-catering and everything we needed for a family of four. The only irritation was that they allow pets and there was evidence of animal hair on decorative bed throws and cusions, but not enough to bother us. Parking was right beside lodge and it was a short walk of 200 - 300 metres to the clubhouse pool. The 'resort' was quiet and always felt safe. A good location for visiting Landmark and other attractions in Avimore. The additional space and extra bedroom meant we were very much more comfrtable than staying in a hotel. There are sever shops and food outles a short walk away, however, the other bars and restaurants are a 25-30 minute walk or 5 minute drive. We'd definitely stay again.

This centre had everything we needed. Our unit was spacious and cosy. We were so grateful to be able to check-in very early because of the storm. Our granddaughters had great fun in the pool which was very child friendly with lots of inflatable toys for them. It’s a great location to explore Aviemore and the Cairngorms.

Our trip was fine, it is a good location. As noted in other reviews the accommodation and the resort is a bit tired and dated and in need of a refresh. Our apartment was clean and spacious, and the need for a refresh would have not been such an issue if some basic provisions had been in place in the kitchen, such as A food starter pack of coffee/tea/milk/sugar and perhaps even some bread. A bread knife and chopping board. A tea towel. Without these basic provisions we dwelled more on the need for a refresh more than we would have.

The lodge was rather dated and dark but was clean and had everything we needed. Good for cycling and golfing. Pool was good but no pool towels one day.

Everything great. Beautiful location. Nature in the doorstep - like deer walking past as you’re eating your Cheerios. Map location from Expedia are a bit off.

Family chalets are decent, just a bit small if you have numbers. Swimming pool is great and the food for adults is really nice. The options for children could be better. Staff were friendly but some bar staff a bit useless.

Cabin is in need of a paint job and upgrade of bathroom.Was clean and bed comfy and had the styff ti cook a meal,if needed.Tv was broken on 1st nt,couldnt get ut fixed till nxt day as no maintenance on site after 5pm.Had to call back on day 2 to get fixed while we were out.No hot water for showers on leaving day.Swimming pool and restaurant looked good but never used.Bar closed at 9pm on Friday.Wasnt great for a 4 star,wont be going back.

I like the Spey Valley apartments cause they are spacious for a family with 2 kids. Great location getting into town and lots of food options around. What can be better: - we payed for 4 people but the apartment was set up for 2 and we needed to ask for extra bedding and towels. The pool is only 25 degrees and it’s too cold for a play. The restaurant can be more encouraging for people to eat and spend time there.
