Had a great one night's stay. Lovely welcome by Muskan. We had a great night's sleep and enjoyed the food. The leisure centre was clean and well equipped. Easy access to Chester. Definitely recommend staying here.

Found the staff very cold and not that helpful, hotel was empty couldn’t purchase any food on arrival, bar didn’t sell any drinks I asked for, pool was closed on first day, wouldn’t stay here again

I didn't think it was fair to have a trainee working on their own on a busy Saturday afternoon. The showers were shocking in the pool area. I feel it was generally overpriced. The dehumidifier in the pool was incredibly loud. The room didn't offer much in the way of soundproofing. There was not a hairdryer in the room, even asking for one at reception I was not given one. The overall feel of the hotel felt tired, despite probably being cleaned it didn't feel it.

Lovely hotel grounds smaller than expected. Nice rooms although a little dated. Comfortable, staff friendly, nice breakfast. Great pool and easy free parking with p&r not far. Would stay again

Overall the hotel is functionally good and clean but some of the decor is dated and a few cracked tiles etc. Food is average and expensive with the 10% service charge added even to drinks ordered at bar (incidentally I don't like this prices were high enough compared to other hotels to include enough to pay staff adequately and any tips should be under the control of customers for good service). The pool area again was good but busy at times with lessons etc and comes with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Again a little dated/in need of maintenance compared with other hotels but functionally perfectly ok. Next to park and ride which is good for visiting the city. Could have been a 5 with a few changes but gave it a 4 as we did still really enjoy our stay.

Nice clean room. Had an issue with the TV but it was resolved very quickly. Food in brasserie was nice. Good selection at buffet breakfast which was cheaper at the hotel than the price when booking. Requested a ground floor room which we got. Hotel has good accessibility for those with mobility issues but only 3 disabled parking spots. Pool was lovely, clean and warm, but did have steps from changing rooms. Convenient for park and ride to Chester

The hotel is very convenient for access to Chester and has free parking. A must for Chester. The breakfast was good and plentiful and The leisure facilities are nice however the hotel is in need of an update all round. The pillows and especially the bed need to be renewed. It was kept clean so the service staff do a great job. Staffing isn’t over plentiful and you often have to go looking for them as they are utilised across the whole hotel.

Excellent stay for two nights, all staff friendly. Didn't dine in restaurant so unable to comment. Spa very good and helpful, friendly staff

Our room was very cramped, in need of refurbishment, stains on walls. Wallpaper hanging off wall. Not very clean. Public toilets dirty

The staff where lovely and helpful. The hotel was a bit grotty, the back of the toilet seat was dirty, hair on the shower curtain, that sort of thing. Our room had an adjoining door to the next room, it sounded like they where in the room with us, no soundproofing. The food was ok, but the order was wrong. I didn't use the pool because I was put off by the overall state of the place. It needs a really good deep clean. It was not worth the cost.

Checked in ok started working at the desk, heard a noise at the door and another male guest lets himself into my room with a key . As a lone solo female traveller it’s not acceptable went down to reception with the guest and got told I had to change rooms. I refused and then got told I could stay put . Hardly any toilet paper had to go to reception twice to request more . Bathroom had a lot of mould. Dinner waited 45 mins from walking in to getting my order. Forgot to bring wine to the table . I never complain about a hotel but I won’t be staying here again

Start with the positives . General housekeeping in the room very good. Staff excellent. HOWEVER the room had very large windows but because of the failure to up-date the building this made the room very cold. The heating was switched off , so it was a very uncomfortable stay. The plumbing is very old and desperately needs updating . The carpet in the restaurant is filthy . Sorry ,but the hotel has a very neglected feel to it .

Everything was pretty much fine. The only problem was there were large brown stains on the sheets of my bed.

The hotel was beautiful and was very clean throughout. Room was spacious and very clean. Only downfall was the pillows were quite worn, so could do with upgrading. The staff were really friendly and helpful. A very pleasant stay. Will definitely be returning

Overall, the hotel is in desperate need of investment. The worst nights sleep ever had!! Due to inconsiderate guests, wafer thin walls, and very poor heating controls. The cleaning standards are something to do addressed, with the very basics, failing miserable. In addition to most staff ,failing to have any sense of urgency in performing there duties. The spa & pool area, requires a complete Overall, with only positive is usage included within the room rate. The restaurant is adequate if you have no desire for anything special, with the breakfast offering, certainly nothing special.

Bedding was so itchy and one the pillow case was so dirty Felt very unclean and ended up getting a rash 11 o clock check out lady started banging on the door saying you need to be gone now Was very dirty and rude bad experience

Room comfortable however walls very thin hear people in other rooms TVs, talking snoring. Very creaky floors in rooms and hallways.

The whole hotel needs some TLC. Had 2 rooms and both showers were very weak and water temperature had no safety click for too hot. Reception staff member Sue was awesome!

First room had terrible water pressure so the shower just trickled out. Second room was boiling hot Average digs - not holiday accommodation

Positives: Local to city centre and large free car park. Room was clean and had all we needed for a one night stay. Negatives: Room was very hot. Tired looking and in need of an update.

We couldn’t sleep because it was too noisy during the night

First the positives - nice easy check, pleasant gentleman at reception, birthday package was purchased in advance and was lovely. Now the not so positives - The room was tired looking and in need of updating. No a/c and it was really hot. Windows open but as it’s on a main road it’s very noisy to sleep with them open. Absolutely no soundproofing in the room and we could hear the conversations and movement of people upstairs and outside the room. The most uncomfortable, rock hard bed I’ve ever been on! We couldn’t sleep due to noise and temperature and the rock hard bed made it impossible to even try. Really disappointed and absolutely shattered from no sleep. Thankfully we only booked 1 night and have just checked into a much nicer hotel. I wish I read the reviews before I booked!!

The hotel was very dated and the rooms whilst tidy were very basic. The bed was so uncomfortable and the walls are so thin we could hear whoever was next to our room snoring.

The public spaces were nice enough but the room was hot and stuffy, a small fan was provided but did nothing. Room looked tired and dated.

The hotel feels very spacious and the rooms have everything you need.The receptionists were very helpful.Particulary a gentleman receptionist on 30.8.24 in the evening.We had arrived late and went out for a takeaway and wanted to asked for more tea bags but he was talking to a guest.He had overheard me talking and interupted his conversation to give me tea bags and milk.I was very impressed at his attentiveness.The bar was busy and buzzing to which provided a nice atmosphere.We also liked the gorgeous colourful pictures too.Parking is fine and its just off the motorway. I would definately recommend a stay here.

This hotel looks nothing like the photos on the website. I am partially disabled and there is no lift. No offer of help with luggage as you have to carry it upstairs. Got to the room to find no hot water so couldn't freshen up before going out. Had to wait for maintenance which to be fair arrived quite quickly. Had to wait to see if it could be fixed which it could not so had to then move to another room. Reception slow to answer when ringing to explain problems, often times nobody behind reception and kept waiting along with other guests. This was the morning reception. Also got snarky when my partner complained about all the waiting and problems we were having and continually having to go up and down stairs and long corridors to seek assistance instead of sending a member of staff to assist us. Tried to use the hairdryer which you couldn't plug in due to sockets too low down to cabinet. Found another socket only to find the hairdryer didnt work. Decor old and tired. Definitely needs a refurb. Plus points, decent bed. Nobody on reception again when checking out so just left key card on counter and left.

Great location a few minutes walk from Chester Park & Ride. The staff are all great, reception were really friendly every time we passed the desk and made sure we had the best room for our needs and breakfast staff went out of their way to be helpful

Utterly disappointed in our stay here. The first of many issues was the fan provided was filthy and broken, as well as the rest of the room being failry poor. Meal times were particularly bad, due to the staff prioritising a coach holiday over the rest of their guests, we were denied access to the restaurant because of this, dispite having a child with us. Come breakfast, dispite going down around 7, we had very little to choose from as most the food had gone and not been replaced! The hotel, dispite knowing they were closing the restaurant to most guests to pioritise the coach holiday, still charged us way to much for the stay and the food, if we had known this prior, we would have likely stayed at a later date, or not at all! When booking a holiday, you would expect to be treated equally to everyone else staying there, this was far from the treatment we received from the Mecure Chester Abbots Well hotel! Unfortunately i will not be recommending this hotel, nor will i be revisiting!

Staff not helpful

The stay actually started quite badly, we chose this hotel as we were attending Chester Races and arrived just after 2pm. We were told good news your room Is available, we were pleased….until we were informed that if we wanted the room now we would have to pay an additional £10 ‘early check in fee’ - we had not requested an early check in, and was pretty amazed at being asked to pay a fee for a room that was already ready. I made it very clear that I was not happy about this and in the end the fee got waived, but future travellers need to be aware, this is a new policy, and something I have never been charged before at any hotel, ever! The rest of the stay was ‘ok’ - the rooms are not air conditioned and get very warm during the night, actually uncomfortably so. We opened a window about 4am to try and cool the room down, but this meant that the 7am delivery truck (I think a beer delivery) that was right outside our room was much louder than it would have been otherwise, even with the window closed we were great to 20-30 mins of loud noise. On the plus side the room was clean, albeit slightly tired looking. Would I choose to stop again? I think the answer is ‘no’, mainly down to the early check in fee, and the lack of air conditioning.

Excellent facilities and hotel. The staff were amazing and were swift in action on any queries. Amazing food in the restaurant. Will definately stay in the future.

Hotel Mercure went the extra mile to accommodate our need for a ground floor room for our disabled dog. All communications were prompt and courteous, and when we checked on the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. This all helped ease the issues of travelling with a beloved disabled pet and we really appreciated all they did for us. Would definitely recommend them, and definitely stay there again should we return to Chester.

The young lady in the front desk was multitasking, but not very well. She gave us two lots of keys for two different rooms. We went for dinner when we arrived and the food took forever and it was just mediocre

Very helpful staff and facilities… lovely breakfast and evening meal . Nothing was too much trouble when asked for a fan ….. lovely touch as an added extra for a special weekend ( worth the £25) extra .. Lovely being able to go for an evening swim and sauna 👌

Perfect hotel for a weekend break. A couple of miles from the city but with the park and ride next door location isn’t a problem. Plenty of free parking. Staff I encountered were all professional and helpful including the team at the Health Club.

Lovely overnight stay with a friend to visit Chester Christmas markets. Great location and easy to find. Free parking was perfect as we caught the bus into Chester.

Read reports saying but dated but we enjoyed our stay everything clean. Few sockets loose but so may in room we didn’t need to use them all. Has everything you need iron & board hairdryer etc. Breakfast lovely. Park & Ride serve 2 mins from Hotel into Chester excellent! I would definitely stay again.

The room was a good size and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only had breakfast but it was lovely and lots of choice. Very good value for money and would definitely go back if we were in chester again

Good hotel, comfortable, clean, room to good standard. But restaurant food was not value for money as food whilst OK was vastly overpriced for what it was.

Modern bedroom, access to the gym/pool, but changing rooms poor. Restaurant nice, but very slow service. Food excellent.

Lovely hotel, staff really friendly, pool and leisure facilities lovely, set in nice grounds. Breakfast lovely, do not recommend the meal deal for the brassierre only a couple of choices but that was the only negative to our stay. Chester centre a short drive away would recomnend and will return

To add insult to injury, the service at the hotel's restaurant was also subpar. During our dinner, we had to wait an unreasonably long time for our food, and we were frequently left unattended by our waiter. My wife even had to get up and find someone to take our dessert order

Hotel was lovely & the rooms was nice & comfy. The breakfast was a let down the beans was freezing cold that just came out of the kitchen plates was taken away and they took the bean back from the buffet when they came back out they was a little better still not great. Bacon was hard. Overall not brilliant for the food. I would definitely go back to this hotel just wouldn’t do the breakfast.

The Hotel was fine but little things let it down. The first night they had a problem for hours with the till at the bar, resulting in long waits to purchase any hot or cold drinks or bar food or snacks. One night we dined in the restaurant and although only 7:30pm they had sold out of so many items on the menu we wished we had gone out for food. Three times the poor waitress had to come back to our table to apologise and ask us to change our order. For the price and star rating of the hotel I expected better.
