Macatawa Lake View Cottage by State Park and Bike Trails

We spent 4 nights in this lake house. Although older, it was clean and very functional for our family of 6. The views are incredible from the rear of the house. We had a couple minor issues during our stay, and Harriet was very quick to respond and was helpful. We highly recommend this vacation cottage for a relaxing turnback in time.

Our family stayed for several nights (adult children). The home overall was very clean but has older appliances & furniture. The appliances worked but we did not try the dishwasher. The living room furniture rockers are very uncomfortable due to the age of them & the decorative pillows need replaced. We had a great time & enjoyed sitting outside and around the firepit. We enjoyed riding bikes (we brought 2) but had to take turns as the other adult bicycles located in the garage had flat tires & the beach style bicycle brakes did not work. There was one adult bike we could use but it was difficult to ride for anyone on the shorter side. I'm not sure if the children's bikes were functioning properly. We enjoyed using the canoe as well. The window air conditioners kept the home fairly cool, and fans are provided throughout the home which was nice. The air conditioner in the bedroom was very noisy when the compressor ran. The noise was bothersome when it was time to sleep. We used the gas grill and everything worked great. We loved the extra parking spaces as well. It was great to have the washer and dryer to use during our longer stay. I would recommend newer towels and additional wash cloths be provided. Also, we noticed that if someone was using the shower and warm water was turned on at another sink in the house, the shower water would briefly turn cold. Please note that there is only one shower available. The main bathroom is only a tub. Overall, we had a really nice stay!

This wonderful classic lakeside cottage is very clean and comfortable. It has 2 bathrooms, but only one sjowrt. Our only suggestion is an assist bar for the bathroom with the shower. The shower is considerably higher off the floor than a normal one and anyone with mobility issues would have difficulty. This property is in an ideal location, a short walk or quick drive to Holland State Park. The property has a canoe, bicycles, tons of games and books available, plus TVs. You can watch the sun rise from the sunroom every morning, then head down to the beach for sunset Absolutely delightful location!

The house was great, but the view was stunning! Plenty of room in the house as well as the yard. Would stay here again! A++++

Quaint, clean, adorable decor. Comfortable, had everything you need. Owner is very kind and easy to work with. Views of the water don't get any better.

Beautiful and peaceful place on the lake. Very spacious home and well equipped. Good restaurants nearby. We look forward to coming back in the fall.

It is a perfect location on Lake Macatawa and walking distance to Holland State Park. The house is a perfect beach house. We enjoyed the fire pit at night, canoeing during the day, and beautiful sunsets at Lake Michigan. I'm looking forward to another visit!

A few things I wasn’t happy about.. the fire pit that was said to be there was nowhere to be found. Glad I didn’t buy wood ahead of time. Many windows were open/unlocked and the front door was left unlocked. Anyone could’ve broken in and hidden in the house to wait for people. We are 2 women in our 20’s so that’s very concerning to us. The shower head was covered in soap scum and didn’t feel like the water was clean bc of that. We wanted to do laundry but couldn’t bc there were wet towels in the washer. No idea how long they’ve been there. No fence or window coverings so it’s very exposed. The location by the water was nice and staying for 1 single night was fine but I don’t think I could’ve stayed longer and been comfortable.

We met the owner and she is a very nice and accommodating person that works to meet your needs. This place is cozy and unique. The view is incredible. Only concerns I had was that there was no working CO detector and at least one smoke detector had a dead battery. Parking is difficult on the weekends as people park in front so they can walk to the state park nearby. This is a great place to stay at in cooler weather since there is no central HVAC. You get a nice breeze from the lake, but it can be tough if the weather gets warm and humid. A great place to consider for Spring/Fall.

The house was well appointed. Clean and more spacious than I expected. Really liked the areas across the back with windows facing the lake. many comfortable chairs and a large couch. Instead of futons there are pull out couch/beds. One in the breezeway between the garage and the house. The other is in the dinning area. It happened we did not use either. Only down side, the bed my husband and I slept in was too soft for us. Might be perfect for others. We used the dishwasher twice. Second time it put a puddle on the floor. 7 of us plus an infant stayed full time at the house. Another 8 had hotel accommodations. The house was home base with all of us gathering for meals. There was plenty of comfortable easy space for the family to mix and mingle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is I agree with another reviewer… some of the windows do not lock and the windows in the lake side have no covering. No shades, curtains or anything… This home is an older home but it has such charm and character… It was spotlessly clean… very impressed. We even found a deck of cards that my teen enjoyed… The photos of the view on the listing do not do justice. It’s such a beautiful view. Close to everybody g. I just can’t say enough about this property. We would absolutely boom again. Thank you so much

There was only AC in 1 bedroom and 1 living space and windows in the other rooms did not open. There was only 1 shower despite the listing showing 2. The appliances were very old with the dishwasher not being operational and there were no instructions left for it and apparently it was to hook up to the sink but there was not a hose provided to do so. The tvs and wifi did not work and the toilet in one of the bathrooms leaked leaving a large puddle on the floor.

We needed a quick, one-night stay with family and this was the perfect house. Super easy check-in, comfortable beds and clean. We loved the retro touches and the multiple places for guests to sit and enjoy the view. We also appreciated not having a huge cleaning fee and were happy to do a quick cleanup. Thanks for making this easy!

It's a charming and cozy old home. Many nik-knacks proved to be a challenge with my busy toddler. I wouldn't suggest staying here with small children. I understood that it was right on the water, but the house is also very close to the BUSY road. We love the area! Walking distance to trails and a quick drive to downtown Holland. I would consider staying here again for an adults trip up to 6 people, but it's tight to accommodate more than that. Lastly the home had multiple different scents that bothered a few of us. It was a bit musty (understandable for a Michigan home partially unoccupied in the summer) but the artificial air freshener had us choking up. Lay off the fake scents a bit

We stayed for just the weekend to attend a wedding for our family. There were six of us and we had a fantastic time. The views were beautiful and the cottage was clean and fully stocked with what we needed. Harriet was an amazing host and we hope to come back again!

Nice lawn and fire pit in front, and very responsive property management. Only one shower, though described as 2 full baths. Good laundry facilities. Dish washer is portable and marginal so didn’t use it. Ultra noisy air conditioner drowned out traffic noise. Few windows open, so smells musty.

The cottage was in a great location for our trips to Holland State Park. I was most disappointed in the air conditioning. There were 2 window units that kept the cottage fairly well cooled, but we had to leave the a lot of doors open for that to be possible. Also, for us, there were too many knick knacks that had to be moved because of the young children. We enjoyed the view of lake Macatawa. The multitude of geese (and their droppings) was unfortunate, but not sure how the homeowner can prevent them from being on the lawn. Overall, we made the sleeping arrangements work, enjoyed the view of lake Macatawa and were so glad the place was so close to the park!

Futons were listed but were actually sofas. Sleeper sofas are fine for kids but the adults sleeping on them had back issues xD-Appliances need some work. After hours at the beach grandpa wanted to watch some baseball but the TV cable was out. Host attempted to fix the 2nd day but the day we arrived to the TV on and non-functional. The VCR combo TV was also non functional and listed a "VCR head needs to be cleaned" message. We also found a note indicating the dish washer was broken. Unclear if this was accurate as the host indicated otherwise but we didnt want to risk water damage if something went wrong.-Host did respond to our issues but not until late the 1st day in. Generally would recommend expecting questions or assistance requests day 1 at check-in time.-Decorations were cute and themed but not child friendly. We were concerned the kids would break some of the many glass trinkets and decor so we packed everything away. Certainly a fun setup but having so many glass things at knee level is just asking for a 3 year old to drop your glass vase, shatter your dutch blue stonewear, or crack your vintage milk bottles.

Our family really enjoyed our stay!! Easy check-in and out. The location was fantastic, plenty of space indoors and outdoors to spread out. We will definitely be back, and highly recommend it to others!

Lovely cottage located on the walk/bike-path to the State Park, Out-door Eateries, Hiking Trails, to name a few. My only regret is that we didn't book for a longer stay. A great place to reconnect with friends with plenty of space. Thank you Harriet!

Older house in a perfect location. Loved sitting by the lake. Loved watching the sun rise and the moon shine on the water. Just down the street is Ottawa Beach on Lake Michigan and Holland's famous red lighthouse. Our stay was very pleasant.
