Room was clean hotel was in a great location and the views were amazing. The bed was tiny a small double at best, was comfy but could barely fit two adults. The room was very dated and all we had were two cheap platic chairs on the balcony. The bathroom was newly decprated and modern but the shower was alet down with low water pressure. The outside of the hotel was sabby and needed some tlc, the biggest disappointment was its August and the outside pool was shut and from other reviews has been for sometime. The room also lacked sockets especially around the bed area where you would normally charge your phone. Overall pleasant stay not sure it was worth the £100+ price tag becuase of the smallest bed in the world but did the job for a night. If they gave this hotel some love and brough it back to the standard it was a number of years ago they would have a gem.

Always a nice stay at the imperial, can’t fault the facilities such as gym, pool, sauna with safe on-site parking (chargeable@£7), location is right next to marina, rooms are well equipped with all amenities included, however they could definitely benefit with including a fan in the rooms as they were quite warm (may) overall a great stay

Maintaining a traditional high quality hotel supported by great staff. Lots of areas to explore and relax. Fantastic snippets of a proud history and insights to a bygone era while sufficiently modern to provide the comforts and facilities expected in a modern hotel. Great views and gardens and part of the coastal path. Spa facilities were good and the pool was heated and a great place to relax in.

It’s a lovely old hotel with some real charm. The staff were very good, the room lovely and breakfast very good. One gripe, the bar isn’t anywhere near big enough for the potential customers. Running out of lemonade and getting gin in a half pint glass because they didn’t have any gin glasses isn’t really on but the young girls working it were under the cosh. The other, after seasoning my breakfast with ‘pepper’ only to find it was salt I was told by the waiter, quite confidently that the multi-holed cellar was for salt and the single holed, pepper. Well it got me googling! We’ll be back for sure, it’s a lovely hotel and great value at the price, breakfast a bargain. The indoor pool is very good sadly the outdoor was closed. Staff all very friendly.

Really lovely stay at the Imperial Torquay. From the outside the hotel understandably looks a bit run down but as soon as you enter the lobby it’s clear that the building has been well looked after and maintained. It’s a beautiful hotel with all the amenities you could ask for… a well stocked bar, nice restaurant, a really good pool and health club and even a billiards room! We had booked a standard double but ended up with what I would refer to as a ‘suite’! Effectively 2 doubled rooms with an adjoining corridor on the 4th floor with wonderful views over the bay. Credit to the cleaning team!

This is a wonderful hotel. Spacious, comfortable and quiet rooms. And excellent restaurant with views over Torbay. The bar has an outside patio that also offers stunning views. The pool is great with steam room, jacuzzi and saunas. There is a secluded pebble beach next to the hotel that's very pleasant. Our only issue is that the car park is too small and the spaces are also too thin for modern cars. A very minor issue though.

This hotel was built originally in the late 1800s, so has great architecture. The downside to this is the room floors creak terribly, so moving around is really annoying. The rooms are very clean and staff are helpful. We did not have any food in the hotel, so cannot make comment on that. Parking is advertised as "onsite parking" but this does not explain, at a cost of £10 for 24 hours. All in we had a pleasant experience, just the floors being the big issue.

Location of the hotel was nice, had places that are walkable to go down to eat. Hotel in general was okay, I felt it has had happier times there, the building itself looked a bit unloved and old and could do with a lick of paint at least. When we’re there the swimming pools were closed, one was in maintenance and the other someone clever smashed glass in the pool so they had to sort that out. It was a real shame as that why we booked there as it had two pools. That said the stay was comfortable, the room was old but okay and we slept very well. I hope they will maintain the hotel as it has potential but definitely needs some investment to it.

Great location close to harbour, great sea views, grand reception and bar area. But our room had not been cleaned very well, broken glass in our room on the carpet, rattly light fitting which kept us awake at night when people in upstairs room walked across the room. Room a bit shabby. We were upgraded to a deluxe room but it did not feel ‘deluxe’ apart from the amazing views. Great selection at breakfast for vegetarians but had been under the lamp too long and some if it was inedible and I could not even get my fork into the beetroot ‘black pudding’ as it was rock hard. The spa area was not very welcoming, the jacuzzi was not very warm, and I had a dirty towel. Did not try any treatments as we did not want to go back there.

This is a really nice hotel. The room was spacious and clean, had everything we needed and the bed was really comfy. We had a room overlooking the road and had the windows open so it was a little noisy but not overwhelming and what you\'d expect really. We\'ve stayed in a sea view room previously where the only was literally the sea but the room was older and a little more "tired" but still well equipped and clean so I guess it all balances out. Parking is easy.

Beds were very comfortable. A beautiful but aging old hotel. Requires alot of modernisation to bring it up to spec. Staff are fabulous and food is great. The hotel is missing out on basics such as hoovering communal areas as debris could be seen on floors from the night beforehand and windows havent been cleaned in ages. We were given a room with an a door adjoining an occupied other room. This was changed. The rooms are in extremely poor condition, worn, dirty, sink would not drain, door would not lock, then bath would not drain. Dirt under beds and in all areas. The outdoor pool was not open and looked to have been shut all summer due to the mould growth in the empty pool. This is a very poor ghotel and should not be rated 4 star...

We stayed here for two nights. Upon arriving there was hair everywhere in the room, the bathtub and on the bed. On top of that the glasses provided for the bathroom and the room for drinking were dirty with lip marks on them. The bathroom had no shower gel or shampoo included. The room itself was very spacious and had an amazing view as I had expected as we got a sea view room.

The Imperial in Torquay is one of those old school hotels that was for the rich and the wealthy back in the day! Still trying to live off its heritage but this hotel does need some investment. The main reception area and bar areas you can see are being refurbished and having a lot of money spent. The lavish open spaces make you feel like you are living in a dozen mansions for the night! I have to say the hotel rooms are unfortunately not well cleaned. The bed frame I had, was quite old and has stains all over it. The carpets were absolutely vile which looked like they hadn't been replaced in a LONG TIME! I think they need an army of staff to go round the hotel with rug doctors OR just rip up the carpets and try again! The room smelt very stale but not the old kind of stale which you would understand as it was established in 1866! The furniture unfortunately yes was old and some hopefully quite period, I am no expert but my main chair that sits at the desk space was collapsed and broke, luckily has a sitting chair in the bedroom and separate table. The location is very good and just be aware of extra costs at every turn! The gym was in clean and overall good condition and I did use it! The bathroom and bath products were the best bit about the room, although a leaking shower head prompted baths instead which is more to my liking anyway! Breakfast was plentiful and well laid out with a cracking view! Overall I would come again and ask for a modernised room! If available!

Paid for a deluxe sea view room and got a view of trees, returned from dinner out and realised we were next to a wedding party with loud rave music. The room was dirty, bathroom full of public hair and hair in bed. Got moved to a different room 3 doors down which was much the same. Still noisy and still dirty. Couldn’t get any sort of refund because it was booked through hotels.com. The hotel rooms are very dated and very dirty. I expected more with how much I paid for it!

I had a sea view room. View was amazing. I booked a delux room. Was very disappointed it had no fridge and they couldn't get me one. They don't tell you parking costs £10 a night until you get there. Room hardly had any sockets to plug in any electrical

We stayed here for two nights in a Suite with a seaview. Trouble was the Balcony was off-limits due to planned maintenance supposedly. I suspect it's more symptomatic of gradual decline to the building emphasised by grasses, weeds etc. growing unchecked on flat roofs and other areas. External windows don't looked like they've been cleaned all season. The walls are very thin, you can hear conversations from adjoining rooms and floors are really creaky. Be aware, if you book a standard room with a seaview you might get a 'sea-facing' room as views are mostly blocked by unchecked garden and tree growth. On the plus side, staff are friendly and professional. The breakfast was of good/high quality content and service. I suspect that without the coach business, this Hotel would really struggle. The Hotel is very well located but is in terminal decline without major investment.

Reminds me of a fading Hollywood star who's still trying to live up to their image from decades ago. The original parts of the building are looking tatty and the 60s outside looks worse. VERY noisy plant room just below our room. Staff are great and the views amazing, but these don't make up for the rest of the experience. 3 star hotel now at best not 4 and it must be so far below it's 5 star hayday.

Nice big room. Had a sea view however there is a huge pine tree in the middle. Room was very big with a very nice and clean bathroom. Check in was easy enough. It is a classic old hotel that could do with some updating. Didnt dibe in so i cant comment on that. Overall a very enjoyable stay abd when the wife says she would stay here again you know its a good hotel.

This hotel was built originally in the late 1800s, so has great architecture. The downside to this is the room floors creak terribly, so moving around is really annoying. The rooms are very clean and staff are helpful. We did not have any food in the hotel, so cannot make comment on that. Parking is advertised as "onsite parking" but this does not explain, at a cost of £10 for 24 hours. All in we had a pleasant experience, just the floors being the big issue.

In honesty there was nothing outstandingly good or bad, but in general the hotel décor and furnishing is rather tired and in bad need of a revamp. The room was large, had a good view of the bay, but generally poor. Internal doors didn't catch or lock, including the bathroom, shower leaked onto floor through screen, but water pressure very good and lots of very hot water. The basics for a good hotel are there, but no attention to detail, and management failure for not checking these things. I blame poor management, not the staff, who were very helpful. To give one small example: only one receptionist on duty, even though there were two reception stations, so long queues built up to check in/out or ask for anything. This lead to some guests being rude to the receptionist for no fault of her own. I saw her visibly upset. There should be no need for this. Despite the shortcomings my stay was pleasant enough.

The staff is not responsive at all. Before we arrived for 2 days I was desperately trying to contact the hotel about confirming the pet-friendly room. They never responded to me: neither by message on Expedia, nor by email, not by phone (I called them but they didn't help) As a result of course they made me pay additionally for changing the room to a pet-friendly one when we arrived. We paid £165 additionally for 3 days: for parking, dog and changing the room. It reminds me of the low-coster airlines where you pay not much initially but you have to pay additionally for every feature. They also always have just 1 person at the reception desk. And this is for such a large hotel. I know that queues are a part of British culture but it's quite annoying that you always have to wait in the long queue at the reception just because the second desk is always empty. It's definitely not a 4*. Quite tired, not very comfortable, if your windows are the same side as the main entrance, be prepared you will never sleep at night because of very loud jingle of the flags over the entrance. Our stay was very good. Every member of the staff was friendly & efficient. A criticism was the shortage of staff in the bar/ lounge at lunch times. The available staff were run off their feet, but kept smiling. A personal disappointment, was no decent draught beer & no Bacardi. Also a lack of menus made me go on the hotel's website which it transpired is years out of date!!! But we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights stay. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, & cooked breakfast was delicious, as was our evening meal. The staff were wonderful. I also enjoyed my 2 early morning swims in the indoor pool.

Great stay at the Imperial hotel, amazing views from our huge room, lovely bed and facilities. Bath a little small for taller people. Service from all the staff was great but special mention must go to Kate at reception for really looking after us, and Basia in the restaurant who was brilliant too. We will definitely be back soon.

The public areas are lovely and clean but the bedrooms could do with a bit of a revamp as they are looking very tired and old. The reception staff were lovely amd very friendly as were the bar staff. The spa staff not so much and they didnt have half of the treatments available that were on the menu. Unfortunately housekeeping really let them down, despite only staying 1 night (so the room didnt need to be refreshed) and check out being at 11am, they barged into the room at 9.40am and then again at 10.40am with only a tap on the door and no time to even answer it. Luckily we were just packing but it may have been a bit of a surprise of we'd just gotten out of the shower.

It should be made clear that there is no air conditioning, that it is up on a steep hillside that is a chore for old folks to hike back up. On the positive side, it had an elegant old time ambiance and most of the front desk staff were very cheerful and helpful.

We had a nice stay at the Imperial. We booked a double room but on our second night there was a leak in our bathroom. The hotel kindly upgraded us to a king room as we had to move from our room. We would stay again but would book a king room next time. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. We may try and book for Christmas.

This is a wonderful hotel. Spacious, comfortable and quiet rooms. And excellent restaurant with views over Torbay. The bar has an outside patio that also offers stunning views. The pool is great with steam room, jacuzzi and saunas. There is a secluded pebble beach next to the hotel that's very pleasant. Our only issue is that the car park is too small and the spaces are also too thin for modern cars. A very minor issue though.

Didn’t help the waitress didn’t know what Wholewheat bread was called Cumin Coming and overcharged for a g&t and Guinness £21!! Parking was in their open car park going up a narrow slope which was both ways and you sat there waiting for Reception to open the barrier only other choice was ina covered garage for £20/night Room was lovely and the bed was huge and very comfortable with a sea view to die for!

I did have a small problem with a cooked sausage found on the floor of my room on arrival however reception staff were very quick to offer me another room of give me a drinks voucher I accepted the voucher as the rest of the room was exceptional and I decided to stay in that room anyway.
