Riviera Hotel

Lift was out of order. Pool was cold. Bathroom very out dated. Staff were lovely and polite and helpful. Great little train hop on outside.

Hotel is having a makeover which is a good thing, but even with paying an upcharge for a new room it’s advertised as a super king room which we thought included a larger bed. It was still only a double. The room was quite small but the bathroom shower was a nice size but toiletries were very basic. Also just a tiny shelf to put things. Air conditioning was also advertised but then you get told to pay an extra £10:00. The pillows were nice but the mattress is a bit too soft. Also the pool looked a little cloudy and dingy and there was a hose with running hot water just stuck in the pool unattended. Would have hated for a child to have grabbed it. Probably wouldn’t stay again.

Didn't know about the building works till we got there. Not overly happy about paying for parking as a resident

Excellent facilities such as balcony sea view and great evening entertainment.

Breakfast was nice good choice, King room upgrade for £10 pp a night was nice, pool was nice but small lucky just two of us in it you have to pay £10 deposit per towel and a £1 for the hire, Entertainment was okay, Had to pay £27 parking for three night stay because I booked through Expedia, Sports bar food (burnt bacon bap)+ a pint deal was terrible was the driest thing I’ve ever eaten plus was over charged for the food then had to see a manager to get £3 refund (How embarrassing), smells stale and damp in the corridors, full skips and building materials out near parking areas.

Being forced to pay £9 for a night parking, when paid £100 for room ? Towels for pool cannot be charged to room, cash only £20 for two, we had no cash ? Bar no charge to room ? pay every drink, Hotel took swipe of our debit card ??? Why the room was paid up front and you could'nt charge anything to your account ? Bonkers ~

Had a lovely stay here staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. Great location Only down side was I had searched for hotels with parking and aircon which this hotel has but at an additional charge. Which I was informed had I booked direct with the hotel for the same price for room my parking would have been free instead of the £9 a day

Friendly staff & I had the indoor pool to myself for an early morning swim .Single room with lovely big shower.

Property was clean and located close to the beach and about a 15 min walk to town and marina. Price was average and nice breakfast. Stayed there twice.

Check in was very good however the room was not good. Bedding, towels and bathroom was clean but sadly the room smelt damp, the curtains were broken, wall paper was peeling off the wall, lamp shades were broken, there were damp areas. We accepted a standard room when we booked but felt this room was was below standard

Good value, spotless room with a good en-suite, breakfast was good value for a buffet with a good selection.

On arrival picture of room to upgrade to for extra cost room we were allocated very old unclean and smell of burning we upgraded to apparent new room this was better but by far new stains on headboard carpet and missing light fittings won’t be back

I was going to request a 100% refund but as the Hotel gave a free breakfast i reduced my tequest to 50 %. Despite the issues i had the Hotel clealy believe saving £35 is more important than their customers. Despite the presence of insects on my bed they felt £69 was a fair price.

Didn't like so many stairs or the sports bar. The dining room was noisy and crowded. The toilet seat in the ensuite was very poor quality and the hotel generally needs upgrading. Cleanliness was lacking everywhere apart from in our bedroom.

Although going though some refurbishment the property feels tired and stuck in a different era. Room was, once we found it, clean and spacious, only issue the strong smell coming from the bathroom which was resolved quickly by running the taps for a while.

Very comfy nights sleep, right near the beach. Only issue was dirty tea/coffee tray and plug in fan, good base

I only had a small single room which looked dated. Old furniture etc. bed was comfortable though. It was adequate for my 2 night stay. However the bathroom smelt a bit and I had to leave extraction fan on over night with door closed. When I first arrived the bathroom light and extractor fan was already on so I think they no it has an odour. Just needs sorting that’s all.

The hotel was clean and secure but the room was very very hot. I went cheap and got a single room but the bed was boxed in on 3 sides and I couldn’t stretch out at all. When I checked in all the windows were closed which is weird considering it was a hot day. The room was a sweat box!!

The room was very nice. However, the hotel is going through a major refurbishment. The room i stayed in, had just been refurbished, the room smelt so strong of paint, it gave me a headache. As it had just been refurbished, i would have thought in this day and age, air conditioning would be a standard thing, however, not the case. The caberet bar looked nice, but smelled very strong of damp / mould. All in all a very disappointing visit.

A great budget stay with friendly, helpful staff. I didn't have breakfast or use the gym etc so I can't comment, but I did see it was busy in the restaurant. I have stayed here before so I know everything is pretty basic in the rooms, though they did have a decent mattress.

We did not book directly with the hotel. We arrived just before a coach party but were made to wait until they had all checked in first. We were told that we would have to pay parking charges & pay an extra £30 to upgrade our room, if we wanted a proper bathroom with shower, a comfortable mattress & a good standard of refurbishment. Budget rooms are given to those who do not book direct. There was a 50% bar reduction, which we were not entitled to either, as we had red wristbands not purple i.e.budget guests. We left our drinks without touching them or paying for them, and went to the other bar downstairs. They refused to serve us as they had just called last orders - it was 8.30pm !! We were also told that the indoor pool would not be open until next week, which was extremely disappointing. By this time we were very angry & upset & felt extremely unwelcome. Fortunately the TLH Victoria is across the road, so we spent our evenings there. We usually stay there when we visit Torquay so knew what to expect. We were made to feel very welcome as always. We had planned to eat at the hotel, but after the welcome we received, we didn’t want to spend another penny there. I had taken my partner there for a surprise birthday trip, but neither of felt particularly happy or celebratory. The following evening the duty manager offered me the 50% bar discount, as he felt that I might be unhappy & didn’t want to spoil our holiday!! Nice gesture but too little, too late.

I booked the room for my wife. She stayed at your premises overnight just to have a shower was very badly treated and your staff were very unprofessional all over a misunderstanding

Stayed with my 3year old daughter while using the pool a guest filmed my self and daughter swimming I reported to manager whom didn’t care and said he would kick me out the hotel for kicking off about the lack of safeguarding done stay if you have young children

Very good access to the promenade and harbour area. Few local car parking areas, or rate £9/day.

we did not prebook food but other family members did and said how nice it was so we then paid £7.50 for buffet breakfast and £12.50 for evening meal both really nice.
