Busy pub at night but not loud at all. Good breakfast and plenty of choice in cuisine of a night, in fact you could stay for 2 weeks and still not eat in every restaurant! Clean and good shower. Parking is ok.

2 points that's where a niggle. Not wrote the stay off as we did really enjoy our stay. But sadly didn't know about the live bands on Saturday nights. Even though we was top floor it was impossible too go to sleep prior too it finishing. If I knew prior me being a light sleeper would of brought ear plugs and room was quite chilly was the other niggle. Did love the room, the location for us was perfect, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room.

All good. Nice cooked breakfast cereals. No availability of the limited on-site parking but there was plenty within a stones throw away at the parking lot next to the police station. Note... this parking lot is free overnight and currently free during the day despite the sign saying it's limited to 4 hours unless you pay £2... check with reception for your stay.

Town centre Hotel. Been stopping there a few years. Business/ working mans Hotel. No on site parking. Very basic rooms but all needs are catered for. Prices have steadily risen over the last year or so and now it's getting into the price range of chain hotels so I would be looking at those now too.

Nice lively pub with live band but did go on till late which may effect early night people. Overall for the money you cannot go wrong 👍 Fried breakfast was great also

Great Value stay and good Breakfast - Just wish they had there own Car Park Although I have used the one nearby a few times through out the years now and thankfully had no issues - No good if you cant climb stairs as there is no lift for disabled folk

Very central and close to many eating places . Hardly any hotel parking , but luckily found somewhere nearby . It’s barely a 2 star hotel. , and really does need money spent on it . However the restaurant staff had a lovely welcoming manner , and the breakfast was great.

Family room we stayed in met our requirements. Breakfast was good with enough basic choices. Staff, in particular for Sunday breakfast and check out were excellent. Several places to eat, in close proximity to the hotel plus a mega supermarket two minutes walk away. No problem for us, but may not suit guest/s with mobility challenges - no lift and offsite parking a short distance away. We arrived by car so difficult to assess what public transport options are like.

My staying this time was so amazing. Everything was on point. Cleanliness was perfect. Breakfast, superb. So comfortable and quiet. Nothing to complain this time. Well done Oakland!!!!

Very good value. Basic but clean accommodation, good breakfast, very convenient in the heart of South Woodham Ferrers. Minor issues: The Telly control could do with replacing and I found the room door lock fiddly to use with the key often sticking.

The hotel is above a smoky bar. The room did not smell at all of smoke - thank you. Found hair in the bathroom from previous guests, so we did not even want to shower while there. The bed felt nice, and the breakfast was wonderful. Did not feel very safe, as there was just a click-style lock on the door with no peephole. Staff was kind and helpful.

Staff friendly room ok however dirty and bedding was torn. Room overlooked what appeared to be a late night 'massage: parlour at twenty to ten on a Sunday eve we could observe a male having massage should we have chosen not to close the curtains. Brekky was good though.

A hidden gem. Our room had been recently refurbished and had a comfy bed, decent tv, and a squeaky clean bathroom. The room is spacious and has new carpeting. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was freshly made to order and excellent. Great value. Would definitely stay again if ever in the area. It’s obvious that the owners take pride in their business. Oh yes, and there’s a pub attached for a nice cold one after a long days travel.

Dated but very clean room and pretty comfortable and airy. Convenient location. We were at a seminar which started at 8.30am, so sadly missed out on the included breakfast and no option for anything else like a packed lunch. All in all, decent value for money

The room i had was very dated , definitely need new mattress i nearly rolled off the sides were so worn. Uncomfortablly hot , there was a single fan but no plug socket near bed to have it near me so pointless. Luckily i was very tired so would have slept in a clothes line . Next morning i noticed everything was very clean bathroom was fine had everything i needed and also very clean . Breakfast was lovely vegetarian fry up amd toast , there was cereal and fruit juice on offer service was quick and all the staff i met were very helpful and accomodating . Really does.need updating such a shame its like this

i was quite surprised upon checkin that there was no parking on site as told by the lady that checked me in.i had to park in a carpark a short distance away and walk back to the hotel,room ok bit dated,bed not very comfortable and through no fault of the hotel i had to check out earlier due to a personnel issue and left one day earlier,no refund offered,i did ask and was told no by a lady i found quite stroppy.wouldnt stay there again.

I was so unimpressed that I handed my keys back and stayed elsewhere. I could not in good conscience let my wife stay there. From the outside the hotel looks ok, however, on entering it smelled like a pre smoking ban pub. There was no one on reception. I popped my head into the bar that resembled a 1970s working men’s club and the barman came out handed me a key directed me upstairs and disappeared again. I went up to the room via a narrow dingy corridor with carpets that, if they weren’t, certainly looked dirty. The room was sparsely furnished with a dodgy looking four poster bed with some flimsy lace hanging from it. The toilet was so close to the wall that you could barely sit on it. Outside, I was unable to find any nearby parking. Effectively I paid for two hotels that night, one a few miles away that I stayed in, and this one, The Oaklands, which I considered to be so bad that I was happier to lose the money rather than stay there.

Earlier in the afternoon I needed a new tyre as drove over a pothole, so I was delayed by over 2 hours and my ETA as a result was about 9.45-10pm, I rang them about 6pm to say I was going to be late, to let them know to watch out for me and apologise and ask what the procedure was for such situations, and their checkin time was 8pm and I wasnt going to make it for then, and noone answered but they said please leave a message as someone will get back, so i did. Noone responded and i ended up sleeping in a friends kids bed in Colchester as by the time i got to Essex (i had travelled from Cheshire) it was getting a bit late and id had no response from the Oakland, and I needed somewhere to sleep! i rang them the next day to explain what had happened, just so they knew, and again got no answer or response to my message. I am not happy, Ive tried to keep them informed and communicate with them and got nothing.

Nice pub hotel for quick stop over. Well coated with numerous pubs/restaurants close by and a large Asda for other bits. Pub was busy night I stayed but noise wasn’t too bad. Friendly people and a good atmosphere. Will use again.

Good central location with free parking. Easy access to shops and restaurants. We could not sleep well due to heat and noise from the pub downstairs. I wished I had paid £5.00 on arrival for a fan on arrival.

Very central and close to many eating places . Hardly any hotel parking , but luckily found somewhere nearby . It’s barely a 2 star hotel. , and really does need money spent on it . However the restaurant staff had a lovely welcoming manner , and the breakfast was great.

Positives: Pleasant staff Clean, quiet, spacious, comfortable rooms Comfortable beds with good quality pillows and bedding Tasty breakfast Decent, reasonably priced bar Good location for exploring SE Essex What could be better: No food served other than breakfast Rooms and hallways need updating - especially more powerpoints and larger screen TVs We had two rooms, 27 & 28, the key for 27 opened the door lock of 28 - could be a security issue Limited close parking - had to use car park a couple of streets away No lift.
