Rivenhall Garden Hotel is widely described as a basic, budget stop with friendly staff and generally clean, simple rooms, but the property itself feels run-down and mid-renovation, leading to an uneven experience across comfort and reliability.

If you want to stay in a Bates style hotel, then this is the place for you. Windows were filthy, mousetraps hidden behind bedside cabinets, no net curtains on windows and as these are chalet type rooms on ground level and the nights are hot, people walking by can see directly into your room while you sleep. There are no fans available and no air conditioning. Rooms are very dated with all furniture in the rooms painted with gloss paint. When you put a cup down, it sticks to the surfaces. When you look around the grounds you half expect tumbleweed to pass by. However, the main building looks pleasant enough and the bar / Restaurant looked quite busy. Other than checking in, there were no members of staff around especially when checking out.

Shower did not work. Only one towel in the room. TV did not work. Very dirty floor. Stains on the bed and headboard. Windows don't open fully.

The hotel is not what was advertised. The green areas were over grown, there was rubbish and furniture dumped by doors and it felt very unsafe for lone women visitors. The electric sockets were broken and there were fluid stains on the wall. The bathroom was the only positive as it had obviously just been updated. The staff were nice and asked why I was leaving after an hour of being in the room. They said they could move the room, however when you feel unsafe and the hotel looking in a state of disrepair, even a move of room would not be acceptable. I would not return to this hotel unless they refurbished it to a higher standard and took into account that having dumped rubbish by main doors is not acceptable in anyone's view.
