Oaklands Hotel

A lovely free upgrade. Suites could have done with some new curtains but apart from that was a lovely surprise. Comfortable, roomie. Perfect location, good parking.

The staff were amazing and very responsive. Food was excellent and staff happily accommodated a change to the menu without any question. The Television didn't work on night 1- I couldn't get BBC or ITV/C4, main channels. I raised this the next morning and they sorted it before I returned the 2nd evening. The shower didn't function and the water pressure to fill the bath was exceptionally poor. I was unable to shower or wash my hair, which I was not happy about. I raised this as I left that morning and again it was sorted that day. Like I have said, this review is no reflection on the staff's attention, responsiveness or motivation to help. My review is aimed at Best Western for letting a gem of a hotel fall into a poorer state than their standards would normally allow. A refurbishment of bedrooms is in need, including some communal carpet areas. The new bar and patio area is lovely but the accommodation side of the hotel needs some TLC.

The beds were extremely squeaky. Poor soundproofing between rooms. The shower head holder was broken so you had to hold it yourself whilst showering. They had tried to repair it with tape. Black mould on the tiles around the bath. The tap on the bathroom sink ran very slowly when switched to cold. The corridor carpets were dirty. The hotel had a general air of being run down and in need of updating. The receptionist on arrival was not particularly helpful or welcoming. Drinks were very expensive in the bar.

The car park is too small for the number of guests plus the people attending special functions.

Stayed in the Annex building for two nights. limited parking outside the building so had to park up at the hotel. Rooms could do with updating a bit. Breakfast was great on both morning and staff were lovely.

Only downside was drawers were dirty (this is where the hairdryer was located) and there was no parking at the property I was sent to (I was not in the main hotel but in a house with rooms on the main road). There were 3 spaces which were full so I had to park on the main road and my wing mirror was clearly hit as it was inwards in the morning.

Bit disappointed. Good location, rooms ok but chose time to stay when they had a wedding party and a football club do. This mean't that I had a very noisy night. Food basic and lacks finesse. Guinness at bar was awesome though. Staff were too busy to care about a single traveller under the circumstances.

Stayed for a couple of nights. This was pretty good value for money during school holidays so I booked it. First impressions are good with a decent sized car park albeit cars parked where they landed! Reception check in was swift and very friendly. The building itself is in really good condition considering its size. My room was spacious, warm and comfortable with plenty of tea coffee and complimentary biscuits. Food in the bar was very good. Cannot complain about anything and will definitely return again.

Lady on the reception very friendly and helpful. Breakfast substantial, but little choice other than full English, as would have appreciated 'extra's' such as cereals and toast & marmalade. Plenty of parking, but very limited if an event is on, as fills up. Creaky floorboards, but it is an old building!

Possibly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and the rooms furniture is very dated. The shower head was covered in grime and some hairs were left on the side of the bath for the entire weekend. However, the staff are great and the food also great.

Room was large and well equipped, however not as clean as it should have been. Cups were dirty and had to be washed prior to use. Balcony was covered in bird droppings. Windows and cills were dirty both inside and out. The service in the restaurant was very poor and waited over 45 mins for the meal and then refill of drink was forgotten. Not even that busy !!

Fabulous staff, greeted with a smile. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

I stayed in rm4 and thought the room looked a bit tired and needs some maintenance and decor issues. The shower was cold as well.

It's a very expensive room, which was dirty and uncomfortable. Unfortunately there was also music running late into the night. I would only advise staying here if you are part of a wedding/party happening on the premises.

Booked a suite for a two night stay to visit family. On arrival we were informed that there were 2 weddings and a football party over the coming weekend. The patio of the ground floor room was right next to the outdoor wedding marquee. Couldn't sit outside due to noise and people everywhere. Our room had broken lamp, broken dangerous chair, usb box that doesn't work. And a terribly stained sofa that we didn't want to sit on it Then at nighttime it was "party central" as all the wedding guests were laughing and shouting, as wedding guests do and in and out of rooms.

Great second stay at Oaklands. Had a few wifi issues which caused some disruption for me as i was there for business, but apart from that the experience was everything i needed it to be. Looking forward to the third stay next month.

Okay for sub £100 a night price point. A bit dated and tired around the edges but room clean, bathroom new and bed comfortable. No complementary water. I didn’t have breakfast. Shower cold on first day but that was fixed for the second day. Wouldn’t rush back but wouldn’t avoid.

It was adequate and the check in lady was pretty friendly and attentive but other than that the staff were not particularly friendly and the food in the restaurant was horrible. The desk was unmanned alot which generally gave a bad customer service. We had questions and there was nobody there to ask. We personally wouldn’t use this hotel again.

The staff at Oaklands Hotel went above and beyond to ensure that our stay with parents in their 90's went smoothly. Even though it was a busy weekend, with four weddings, they made sure that we had a reserved parking spot, and couldn't be kinder at breakfast, bringing extra cushions to ensure that our parents were comfortable. Would totally recommend!

We couldn't fault the receptionist when we arrived. Absolutely amazing and so friendly. Infact, all staff were friendly and helpful. The food was faultless and the steak was cooked perfectly (medium/rare). We stayed in the apartments separate to the hotel. The room was spacious. However, when we arrived back at our apartment late last night, our block stunk of weed and it was all in our apartment. One of the apartments on the bottom floor had been smoking weed and stunk the communal area along with our apartment out. It wasn't appropriate to remain in our accommodation. The staff were amazing and moved us immediately as they came to the apartment block and could smell it before opening the communal door. We were moved into the main hotel, which was really appreciated. Although this happened, it would not put us off going back again to stay as the staff were apologetic and rectified the issue immediately so we could sleep in a room which was free of "weed smoke".

Best Western Plus Oaklands Hotel great breakfast, friendly staff and walking distance to Norwich ,lots of pubs and restaurants in easy walking distance and its on a bus route if you don t fancy walking .

This is a charming independent hotel in a convenient location for Norwich centre. As with all hotels of its ilk it does not have the funding provided by the conglomerates but the plus side is its individuality and character. The staff were really good

VERY pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food cooked in front of us by a very enthusiastic young chef. Had the chicken kebab which was superb, and then breakfast was freshly cooked. Eureka, NOT a buffet. Double espresso was quality coffee, and all kitchen staff were a breath of fresh air. BRAVO

My room was clean, spacious and fine for my purposes. Tea & coffee provided, toiletries, plenty of towels, etc. There were 2 single mattresses butted up to make a double - but it's a good job it was just me as one of the mattresses was really saggy and uncomfortable. The wider property is tired and in need of an update which is a shame as I imagine it was very smart in its day. Staff wise, there wasn't a lot of 'warmth' but it was ok. Breakfast was a bit disappointing - expected a buffet, but had to order single items off a menu. What I had was nice enough but it felt a bit restrictive. Ate dinner there one night which was ok - but a bit pricy for what I had. Very nearly ate there the second night until I heard and saw the chef with the kitchen door open(from the car park), sneezing his head off repeatedly with no attempt to cover his mouth - yuck!!!! I got back in my car and went elsewhere. I had heard someone sneezing loudly the night before when I was in the restaurant, so I'm hoping it didn't affect anything I ate that night! Carpark could also do with remarking as it's big, but a bit random!

Unfortunately I arrived and had to eat at the restaurant, I paid over the odds for 4 chunks of almost grilled (raw) chicken on a flat bread and a hint of salad. I asked for chips too and was told they were extra. (in the end they didnt charge for the chips) outrageous for £17 but i was in a rush as I had an evening appointment, the kitchen wasnt though as I waited 30 mins for the raw food. There was only 1 other table.... look how pink it is - almost clucking. Breakfast was equally disappointing, there are few options if you dont want eggs or red meat. I chose the vegan breakfast even though im not vegan, but it was missing 2 of the items it was supposed to have... i overheard the waiter telling another table they had run out, but nobody bothered to tell me. It was awful. The room itself was tiny... the mattress so soft on one side that if you lay in the centre you are rolled off the bed. There was no way of controlling heat, so it was way too hot (its november) nowhere to put anything so tripping over luggage and clothing trying to do anything other than sleep - which was impossible due to the snoring ape in the next room. On checkout nobody asked how my stay was... just happy to charge me. The wifi network is so open I could see what tunes the kitchen were playing on spotify...I left with a bad stomach, and very dreary eyed feeling like I had some sort of survival experience, not great before a 4 hour drive.

I stayed 3 nights. I used Best Western as a base to see not just Norwich, but Norfolk and more. Every morning my breakfast was exceptional. A great choice of menu items and to my joy porridge! (Which is a welcome healthy option). The English breakfast was great too. Friday was probably the best day for breakfast. I was given a really good flatwhite by a very nice hostess/ waitress who clearly took pride in her barista skills. I know a good flatwhite (I’m Australian originally). The room was very clean and well kept. I had a single bed room, with some nice snacks with the coffee and tea (replaced every day btw). It got a bit hot and i did keep the window open, a plugin fan or ceiling fan would be a great addition. I’d definitely stay again.
