Wherry Hotel

Room was OK, had a nice balcony. Big Carvery and pub, but bar shut at 10pm. Breakfast was awful, eggs congealed, bacon hard, hash browns were to well done, it was buffet breakfast. No one was on Reception when we checked in.

Nice hotel. Plenty of parking. Nice view over the Broads in the morning.

Very popular hotel. Good vibe. Good food. Looking a little tired- could do with a refurbishment our room was ‘classed as ‘superior’ but was a little disappointing. Our only view was of the car park 😟

The hotel is in a lovely location right on Oulton Broad. The principal trade is as a pub, restaurant and carvery. The rooms at the front of the hotel have a view over Oulton Broad at a premium. We booked a basic room. The room was well decorated relatively recently, the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small but perfectly adequate, it contained a bath/shower which was of a very good standard with lovely warm thermostatically controlled water. The television was a bit old and small, but we did not go to the hotel for television watching! The room was warm and clean. There is a lift to all floors. There are local shops and a railway station a very short walk away.

2nd stay at the Wherry - booked deluxe double room with view. Room clean but en suite showed signs of wear, grouting with mildew in places and damp stain to top of wall above shower. Lovely view but no net curtains, so very little privacy with curtains open, especially with boats moored up outside. Corridor carpets and decor quite shabby in places, and lift broke on 2nd night of stay. Breakfast on 1st day also could have been better, long delay in getting replacement food when buffet trays empty, due to problems in the kitchen, however waitress working really hard and apologetic about the problem which was out of her control. Only other concern was on checking out, went to reception to settle the bill, only to be told it had already been taken out of my account, and had to ask for receipt to check it was correct as not volunteered by receptionist. It would have been more respectful to me as the paying guest, & bearing how much we had paid, to wait for me to see the bill and check it first before actually removing the money from my account without my pre-authorisation.

The room was as plan as could be. There's no telephone so you can;t contact reception or order room service. it was quite noisy until ten and then the music downstairs went off and everything was quiet. Bar prices for food and drink are outstanding and too low. They should compare prices and raise theirs. The view over the Broads is lovely and post breakfast coffee on the terrace in the sunshine was very pleasant indeed, there are lots of nearby restaurants and bars. it would be a really good hotel if the rooms were better and you could order room service.

The hotel was lovely but in need of a few maintenance touch ups in the bar/dining area & rooms. We had a room with a view, a view we couldn’t fault. The main letdown of the room were the lining of the curtains were ripped in quite a few places, a quarter of one of the linings was missing so let the light in through the main curtain material. The shower hose was not long enough to slide the shower head up for taller people & it’s a shame the layout of the bathroom wasn’t thought out better as the toilet is right by the door opening. A positive was the shower was nice & powerful & the bed was comfortable. We had a meal in the afternoon which was lovely, the cooked breakfast the next morning was buffet style. The plates were cold & the ingredients under the hot lamps were only warm on the verge of cold as we discovered when we sat down to eat. The staff were really lovely & we hope the hotel improves on these niggles as it is a lovely hotel & we would happily stay there again.

Clean and welcoming. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Good value for money. Would stay there again.

Lovely clean hotel with friendly staff.

We chose the wherry hotel as there was a tribute band on. There were 3 couple in iur party. We all enjoyed the stay. The public areas were comfortable. Our room was quite dated the bedding was clean but we couldn't help but feel the carpets were not hoover around the edges. Our room kettle did not work. !( room 204)

Mattress is old and uncomfortable , room was like a black hole dark and gloomy. towel rail in particular in the bathroom filthy , general cleanliness not good. Only good thing to say is the food was nice. Lady at breakfast on the first morning was unfriendly and surly. That room should not be sold to anyone else. A refund would be good pr 😀

Basically this is a tired hotel that no one seems to care about or have pride in. The room was ok, but hazard tape over electrical fittings, dirt built up on the radiator, towel rail, tile tops and skirtings, everything felt a bit sticky like it hadn't been cleaned well. Couple that with the disinterested front of house staff, literally pressuring dining guests out the way at 8pm so they could set for breakfast. Over priced bar more akin to London prices than a grubby Lowestoft carvery. I won't be back!

Hotel very clean overall. Room had tea coffee etc. The balcony off my room made my stay even better much. Views from sun drenched(all afternoon)chairs on balcony if Oulton Broad were stunning. The staff were very accommodating and polite. Food was good too. Will definitely stay again

Stayed in the Queens Suite. Nice large room overlooking water. Very clean although a little dated.

It also feels as if the takeover by Red Cat has led to a reduction in staff and some irritating 'economy hotel' measures, such as having to ask for your room to be serviced (which we weren't told when we arrived). Standards are definitely on the slide over the last couple of years, but we'll definitely stay again.

Booked the King Suite. Nice room, very comfortable bed. Room is quite dated though. Bathroom is very small and again dated. Needs modernisation.

Terrible bed. Springs were broken and resulted in poor sleep Also asked for an extra hour to check out but excuses made that the room was immediately taken.

Staff very friendly abd helpfull. Hotel was very dated decor dated. Room clean but very dated and tired looking. Our room got alot of noise as it was next to a hallway door. Window let in cold air. Breakfast was very limited had to ask for butter baked items fresh eggs as nothing left this was only 8:45. Also a work man drilling a stair banister extremely loud atthis time witch was not ideal whilst eating breakfast.

The food I had during my stay—breakfast (included), light fare, and dinner—were all tasty, fresh, and well presented. The only disappointment was my room. I got an email after booking telling me that the room looked out onto the roof and the restaurant vents. I’m not sure if this was done to encourage me to upgrade. But it that was the only issue, it didn’t bother me. But upon entering the room, I found that it was next to the elevator, next to the hallway door for this wing, small, the window didn’t open, there was no A/C, and the room itself was old and small. Although “discounted”, I didn’t find it to be a good value. Lesson learned. But if I was in the area, I’d choose to come back here again…just with a different room.

Room was too hot and limited ventilation, window blind was broken so it wasn't very dark

Beautiful view from our deluxe room, with the added bonus of the balcony on a lovely sunny afternoon.

We stayed for 3 nights in room 106. The room was very comfortable as was the bed. The shower was excellent. Tea/coffee and biscuit provision was excellent too. Breakfast was very good, as was the evening carvery, and all the staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Our only issue was with some noise due to the kitchen extractor/fan being outside our window. We were warned but told it would stop at 10.30pm and restart at 9am. It did stop on time but restarted just before 8am, which was a little annoying. There was also regular noise from what we believe was a water heater. That did interrupt our sleep at times. Another room would probably be quieter but as it was a late booking, we had to accept it. We would still be happy to stay at the Wherry Hotel in future.

We were very disappointed with the room it should not be let to people renting it should only be used as a store room it was dismal the view from the window was horrible it was room 108 the bathroom left a lot to be desired we only had 2nights thank goodness and were out of the rooom all day the bathroom and bed were not touch day 2 so not cleaned the staff at breakfast were nonsurelant and not botherd but as this suited the ivroment they were working in it was understandable their moral was down you need to walk round your hotel which is in a prime location and sort things out it could be a lovely place to work and stay but for the fact you are not customer friendly

Unfortunately there just weren't enough staff! Waited almost 20 minutes to be served at the bar ordering food and drinks in the evening - seemed just one member of staff taking orders, payment, making coffees and then taking them to tables before coming back to the bar. Breakfast was disgusting! Over an hour's wait from ordering (which also took ages same as previous night). I ordered bacon, tomatoes and hash brown, plus toast. What arrived were two slices of very burnt toast with bacon on, on one plate, and tomatoes and hash brown on burnt toast on another plate! Confusion all round. My husband's toast arrived already buttered - not in triangles unbuttered as most places serve - and equally as burnt. The toast was inedible and we left it. The lovely lady serving the breakfast was doing her best but there only seemed to be two staff on and we were told one chef. It's a shame because we have stayed in the past and had lovely meals, but they really need to get the staffing issues sorted. The room itself was lovely, clean, beautiful view and location but it's a shame that the bar and restaurant experiences completely spoiled our stay.

The staff are excellent, the view is awesome sitting outside or on the balcony, the carvery is lovely, breakfast great , been twice and think it’s lovely only downside is they should tell you if a wedding or something on as the music goes on till late ?

Lovely location overlooking oulton broad, the problem was food, very basic menu and not particularly cooked well. Breakfast as well over done. We stayed two nights, and dined their twice for evening meals, we wanted to dine somewhere else the second time but walked around town, there’s no where to eat, turkish has shut down as well as the indian. So we had no choice, I believe they seriously should look at changing something. I was told also that it had been taken over a year ago since then things have never been the same.

The hotel and its facilities are adequate but a bit dated. Food was average but good value for money. Outlook over the Broad is fantastic and makes the venue very special. The last remaining fried egg at breakfast was not cuttable without special tools. On request it was quickly replaced with two new ones which were perfect (don't wait for the request next time)

Friendly welcome, easy check in, lift to first floor. Room comfortable and spacious, tea and coffee making supplies. Nice shower and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Fabulous view from dining room over Oulton Broad. Menu a bit limited but typical pub fare. Satisfied overall with the experience.
