staff and food excellent and beds nice and comfortable and clean room nice with usual tea/coffee etc. On arrival though bins overflowing and cigarette ends on paths outside

The kettle appeared to blow a fuse just by switching on. This was rectified by "throwing a switch in another room", but I would suggest that the cause should be fully investigated by a qualified electrician! More than adequate parking at this time of year.

I was very pleased to find EV charging point, some thing that should be advertised

Lovely setting & very good food. Our room was in one of the two lodges on the site, however the exterior of both looked ‘tired’ & needs redecoration

Scenery was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. However, we had no outside light. there were no plugs in the basin or bath. We did tell a member of staff but nobody came to check. The outside partitions between each room were broken old fence panels. We had no window to open, only a patio door, which we did open but next door's dog came in and sat in the bath! There was no fridge nor air conditioning. At the front of our room there were steps with broken handrails. All the rubbish from the hotel was strewn across the car park. Building was generally very tired and needs an upgrade. We can't recommend you to our friends.

The staff go above and beyond to satisfy customer needs. The evening food is excellent. The car park also has 4nr Osprey destination chargers, ideal for my plug in hybrid for overnight charging. The car park is large, well lit and safe for overnight parking.

The location was very pleasant, being right next to the River EX. So close, that the restaurant get flooded on occassions if there are severe rain falls. In recent times, the water has been above the table tops shown in the picture! This should not distract you from staying there. The accommodation was very good, some showing their age. Rooms are larger than other well known stop overs and do provide private o/s areas for those times when the weather is good, allowing for relaxing. The restaurant itself was very clean and the food (breakfast) I had was well cook and was filling. The evening menu had a varied selection and was priced as to the current market. If you book direct, you do receive 20% off the bill. Ideal for business stay over, couples holidaying in the area, looking for a couple of days stop. Best though in the drier seasons :)

Overall a great location, friendly and helpful staff, and our room was on the ground floor with its own patio area which was great. The food was good and a good selection of drinks, but a little overpriced and service was very slow. Breakfast was excellent and service was improved for this. The room wasnt the cleanest with lots of webs and spiders in the corners, and a few bits on the carpet. The tables in the pub and outside were also very cluttered with old glasses that hadnt been cleared away, coupled with dirty/sticky tables. Shame really because its a great location with great potential!

The property is very shabby, leaking shower and mouldy. Loos are awful state downstairs. Whole place needs a make over. Staff very good. Very very hot in bedroom despite fan

The approach to the bedrooms was difficult and the decor was dreadful. Despite putting a sign on the door requesting that the room be serviced, this was not done. Breakfast service terminating at 9.30am, seemed very early on Saturdays and Sundays. The location of the hotel was inviting and the bed comfortable, however we were disappointed with our stay!

I love this hotel for its location and outlook and have stayed here a few times over the years. I have stayed 4 nights in the past 2 weeks and the location and outlook still don't disappoint. Unfortunately, the condition and cleanliness of the rooms was really poor, with dirty floors and toilets in my rooms and a general lack of care for the place. I realise they are short staffed, but there can be no excuse for wee around the toilet pan and down the sides, nail clippings on the floor (along with bits of loo paper) and handing over rooms that just didn't look like they'd been cleaned. On a positive, the staff were all very friendly and the food was reasonable.

Only issue was cobwebs outside the main room doors. Needd cleaning to remove the spiders. But all else great for the price.

Nice room, clean and quiet. Staff in the pub were very pleasant. Food was good, but bar prices are disgracefully high. Over £10 for a standard size glass of dry white wine cannot be justified.

Not the cleanest place I’ve ever been! The water glass had lipstick marks on them, a a used tissue in the floor from previous guests! Requested room to be cleaned, they just spread the bed with no care at all! Floor carpet was not hovered when I went in and the next day was still the same! Stayed for 2 nights and I said to myself never again!

In three days no attempt was made to make up our room at all! I have never been in a “hotel” where the room has not been made up. If we wanted to deal with bed turning, towel stacking and so on we would have stayed at home, not in a nearly £100 a night “hotel”. On the 2nd night, my birthday night, we decided to stay in so we could have a few “bevies” without worrying about driving. What a mistake! For drinks we ordered some gin and tonics. Only to be told that they did not have any “real” tonic, just light tonic – the one where you can taste the artificial sweeteners! So had to think about other drinks. My wife asked for a Campari and soda – no Campari! Unbelievable! The wife of my cousin asked for an Aperol Spritz. They had no idea what this was or how to make it! Dinner was an experience…. I ordered a Rib Eye steak, only for the person serving us to be told they did not have any, by someone passing the table at the time. There was no pre-warning. After some thought I ordered Surf and Turf. Eventually my Surf and Turf arrived, minus the prawns. I asked the waitress where the prawns were. She looked at me as though I had three heads! She scuttled of, never to be seen again. Not a place to stay at. Not enogh space for a full review here!

The room was big and clean. Bathroom was outdated. Not many windows can open so it was a bit warm inside.

The setting of the pub is beautiful, just on the river, but sadly no river walk as I was hoping. Our room was spacious. The only problem was that the pub entrance is just by the bedroom window and some people were not very considerate, talking loudly.

Great riverside location and an excellent restaurant. The room was modern well appointed and clean. However the soundproofing between the room I stayed in was poor - I wonder if my snoring disturbed my neighbours as much as their "nocturnal activies' did me!

Great location, wonderful friendly staff, comfy beds, plenty of parking and great breakfasts. Only downside was the height of the bathroom ceiling, but we were in the loft space with a great view of the river.

We stayed here for one night in the family room. It was large and clean. There was parking on site and they even had food on the menu for my picky eating kids.

The room had an amazing view of the river, the bed was very comfortable. The toilet seat was loose and the water had a mouldy taste. The staff were courteous and very busy. The breakfast was bland, they only had instant coffee and no brown sauce. There was nobody available to talk to about the room as they prefer everything to be done through email.

Really enjoyed it we was in room 21. It was lovely nice big bathroom. Nice big room will come back.

Property had everything we needed for a one night stay. Unfortunately our room was in the roof (9) We are both tall and the low beams meant that we had to stoop most of the time.

The room was comfortable and clean although the area outside of the accommodation building was very tatty. There seemed to be a shortage of staff which meant slow service at the bar and 15 minutes wait for someone to come and check us in.

At check in, the member of staff was very friendly and explained everything, the room was perfect for an overnight getaway with a lovely view of the bridge

Really good location and dinner and breakfast. Staff very friendly and doing a great job but Marston's brewery seem to be cutting costs by under staffing more staff needed . Nice rooms with great views but they do need tlc to bring them up to modern standards

Lovely pub with a beautiful setting by the river. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. The stand out is the attitude of the staff - the waitresses were brilliant and so friendly. We had a problem with the tv and two staff members spent a significantly period of time trying to resolve it, before offering an alternative room. Can’t fault their positivity and helpfulness.

Booked two nights as a birthday treat, was over a bank holiday, on checking in it was obvious it was very popular for Sunday lunch and filled to capacity with not enough staff. Tables full of empty dirty plates and glasses. Had an evening meal the following evening and over an hour’s wait after ordering, meal was poorly presented and expected more for the price. Plumbing in room was faulty, toilet didn’t flush properly and shower wouldn’t turn off easily, clearly a fault with plumbing. Property could do with a lick of paint.

Amazing location & clean, comfortable room. We booked in for dinner which was a little disappointing as there was a 90minute wait for mains, with no warning when ordering via the QR code as instructed. When the meals came they were small portions and and overcooked (steak & chips). They did appear to be short-staffed. We had also booked in for breakfast (The full works) so had low expectations, but actually we only waited 30mins, which was perfect as it gave us chance to have a hot drink and pastries beforehand & the breakfast portion was wonderful and very tasty! To be honest, the location was so fab, I will definitely return in the future.

Great location on the river attached to pub with fireplace. Clean updated rooms. Large bathroom. Close to the Tiverton canal co and horse drawn barge rides!

Fishermans Cot is situated in a truly beautiful position beside the River Exe. Many of the roads in the area are very narrow and demading, especially if you are unable to occasionally reverse on meeting a caravan in tow or a wide vehicle. Food at the hotel was good in quality apart from the Continental Breakfast that had a poor and very limited variety of items. Staff were very friendly and attentive; accommodation warm, clean and comfortable and overall value and eg bar prices competitive.

Friendly staff, beautiful location, good food.

I was staying for 1 night as a stop-over on way to Falmouth. The accommodation didn't look great from outside but the rooms were clean with decent space and patio doors onto a small veranda and a shared green space with access to the pub gardens. The riverside pub was good - nice to sit out and enjoy the evening sun. Food was disappointing - £16 for an underwhelming burger. I would recommend - especially at this price point and would definitely stay again.

Fantastic stay (3rd time). Room was spacious and in a quiet area. Beer garden was great with a picturesque view of the River Exe. Evening meal of steak was good, Lager a good price and the staff were brilliant throughout our stay.

We picked this hotel as a stopover on our journey. We chose it as the restaurant looked good. We got the last room available, it was small but very comfortable. Dinner that evening was excellent as was the breakfast next morning couldn’t fault a thing.
