Solent Hotel and Spa

Great hotel and the facilities are great. The only issue i had is that they make you pay to use the pool facilities. Other than that it was a great hotel and reasonably priced

Hotel was full to capacity and couldn’t even get a table for dinner in the restaurant! The spa was full to capacity when we went to use facilities and was operating on a 1 in 1 out basis. Children in the sauna, which should not be allowed. 1 bathrobe our room so I was waiting in my towel!

A wonderful resort, I wish I could have stayed longer. The pool was a delight to swim in, and the restaurant had really good food!

Lovely hotel and Spa, very clean and welcoming with a lovely restaurant. Only reason why it scored low on facilities was because of the planned refurbishment of the pool area, which we knew about after booking but didn’t put us off. Would definitely stay again and would look forward to seeing the refurbished pool area next time over a lovely place to stay

Reasonable price. Pool and spar should be in the price! But not complaining as the building n room was really nice. Room was really clean best hotel ive stoped in so far.

It was an amazing experience and I would recommend. Staff members were friendly and fantastic. The spa treatment sessions were superb and of course the outdoor jacuzzi was the highlight of my stay!! Hotel is top notch.

Electric charging stations. We were travelling down to Southampton to embark on our cruise ship for one week. I chose to stay at the Solent Hotel so that I could charge my car ready for the journey home after our cruise. The hotel and facilities were fabulous I will definitely stay there again.

Overall quite a disappointment. Same price paid via Expedia as hotel charges when booking direct, except spa/gym facilities not included in rate. It's hidden in the small print so you don't realise until they email you to ask you to pay an additional £15 per person. Feels a bit like a rip off. The room is quite dated, not well designed (no plug sockets next to the bed, huge empty space on one side of the room with all the other furniture pushed to the other side, poor lighting, and next to zero soundproofing. You can hear everything in the corridor and the adjacent rooms, including toilet noises. Can't turn off the fan in the bathroom so a constant hum. Not great for a light sleeper.) Everything just feels a bit cheap. Like every cost has been kept down - from the cheap plastic not soft close toilet seat to the single (overcooked) egg with a full English breakfast. Don't even think you could enjoy a nightcap - the bar closes at 11pm. Breakfast was alright but overcooked and, like everything else here, felt stingey. Portions kept to a minimum. In fairness the staff were great in accommodating my gluten allergy but the 6 or 7 emails and phone calls asking us to pre-book a time started to become a bit like harassment. Noted: when we got to the breakfast room it was half empty. Honestly? You'd be better off in a Premier Inn.

Solent is a decent hotel for an overnight as a business trip. The entrance and corridors are generally tired looking and worn out, but the rooms have had a cosmetic renovation and the gym is very well equipped. Food in the bar/restaurant is good quality and not overpriced.

We stayed over because we were celebrating a friends birthday with a Christmas theme. Disappointed that the pool etc was closed due to refurbishment which was another reason that we decided to stay.

Overall our stay was good and as expected as we have stayed here many times before. However as we were staying two nights we expected as normal our room for our second night to be serviced ready for a fresh stay on night two. However disappointingly when on returning from a day out visiting family it clearly had not, we asked reception if this could be done as soon as possible as we needed to get ready to entertain family in hotel restaurant that night they said they would see to it straight away. After an hour it still wasn’t serviced we asked again and was told it would be done straight away. A new policy wasn’t mentioned. It was then shortly after a staff member knocked in the door to tell us that two weeks ago they introduced a new policy that it had to be requested via an app before 10am if your staying more than one night. Apparently there was a card in the room advising of this that we missed as never having had such a policy in a hotel before and crucially it was NOT mentioned or warned about to us at check-in as a new policy introduced only two weeks prior. They tried to rectify it with new towels but housekeeping had all gone home so room could not be serviced. So be aware you have to request this now.! We wondered why would you not have a room serviced and refreshed, as paying same rate for both nights? to have with bins emptied, fresh towels, toilet rolls, tea coffee refreshed, room cleaned etc etc especially as no reduction in room cost for doing it yourself.!

The bathroom is in need of modernisinh; the sink tap was loose, the shiwer controls stiff and difficult to adjust the temperature, the shower curtain did not stop the floor from flooding I mention this to reception who daid thed get fresh towels and it cleaned up but that didn't happen. Would not stay again unless every other hotel un the area full or much pricier

All ways stay here when visiting family never had a bad experience staff our friendly rooms are always spotless

The hotel itself was lovely, the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a lovely stay. We arrived to find birthday gifts and messages in our room for our soon to be 6 year old. It was a really nice touch. We then went to use the pool area with our daughters and found it really clean and comfortable. We had a short wait before we went in as it was busy but it was only 5 minutes or so. The drinks service around the pool was great and the spa services we used (steam room and sauna) were lovely. Back to the room for get washed and changed for dinner. The room was set up to sleep the 4 of us (one double bed and one sofa bed) which was very nice and still spacious. The room could’ve done with a deep clean as it was a bit dusty in places, but the bedding and bathroom, floors etc were fine. The fridge with the empty bottles to fill up with fresh milk and water from the dispensers in the hallway were a nice touch, as was the coffee machine. Heading down to dinner and that’s what lets this hotel down. The service in the restaurant is excellent, if a little slow. It’s a bit more on the pricy side but we expected that as staying in a hotel is a treat. Unfortunately, some of the food didn’t live up to expectations. We had either delicious food but tiny portions, or in the case of my daughter, food so heavily fried it was inedible. The staff were understanding and refunded us. Unfortunately it was the same situation at breakfast. Again staff were brilliant about it.

Not a very relaxing spa experience with a lot of children in the pool/spa area, shouting, playing ball games, jumping and splashing. Jacuzzi and changing rooms very nice, preferred using the changing rooms showers etc then bathroom in room. Room was average, bathroom needs updating, dirty/stained shower curtain. Bed very comfortable and good size room. All food and drinks were very nice in particular breakfast. Staff and service could be better, staff were not very attentive, left for a long time without drinks or service. Some items not on the menu at dinner. Overall very average stay possibly not worth the money and especially having to pay £10 per person to use the spa facilities.

Would not recommend - too many issues Furniture falling apart in bedroom - opened cupboard door it landed on floor Someone’s nail clipping on the floor Fire alarm in middle of night - when we got downstairs no staff about to provide any direction On checking out they had over charged us which took them about 10 minutes to sort out

Room given was not as advertised, in a dirty condition with several hairs in the bathroom. Staff said no other rooms were available although rooms could be booked online. Offered same standard of room in equally poor condition. Eventually offered a third room which matched what was advertised. Pool ceiling falling down, breakfast choice limited and portion sizes small.

checked into wrong grade of room. room heating was not operational- rads and ac. only noticed in morning. mentioned on check out to be told “we will look into it” better housekeeping / room prep needed

We booked a suite. The bedroom and the living room were very tired and needs a lot of work on them to bring to the standard we expect for a four star hotel. The shower is over the bath rather than being a walk in shower. There was no shaving mirror. The sockets in the bedroom need to be next to the bed. It needs to have more sockets for plugging in our telephone and iPads. The Spa is very good. We had massages and made good use of the jacuzzi, steam room and the sauna. The menu for the restaurant and the bar is limited to just a few dishes and the booking system for the restaurant needs attention. We turned up on time and the staff on the door said we had to sit outside! At 8.45pm it was cold and we didn’t have warm clothing with us. After several minutes we were shown to a table inside. There were some tables that were empty when we arrived and never got filled. We enjoyed our stay but we had a few little niggles.

Stayed in Room 155 - was very clean and I have stayed multiple times at the Solent Hotel & Spa before... It's a nice place to stay with multiple options in the evenings to cater for food and so on. Breakfast is good quality food, even if a bit clunky and there is a decent vibe about the place. Room 155 is however, in between the 2 nearest WIFI antennae and the reception ranges from full just behind the room door to poor at the desk. Poor is okay for simple internet page surfing (eBay) but if you want to stream from the iPlayer then it doesn't work well

Large room and excellent bathroom. Staff cheerful and friendly. The service at breakfast was particularly good and that seems to be unusual now in our experience. We have stayed here before when exploring the area and came this time for an overnight stay before joining a cruise. It is good value and has lots of amenities should guests wish to use them.

Had a great stay at the Solent hotel. Spa and Swimming facilities are really great and modern. Staff and general services are all good and friendly. The rooms are a little outdated and you can hear your neighbours through the walls. The big problem for me was the terrible beds! unfortunately, ours was awfully soft with a big dip in the middle...I expect better from a 4 star hotel. Overall good stay - would probably return to use the Spa facilities but not stay the night again.

.Noisy fellow guests on a Saturday night. Banging room doors and a couple having a row upstairs at 4am. The walls are very thin. shame as it spoils what is otherwise a very comfortable and good quality hotel.

Loved: Black out blinds/curtains; surrounds; outdoor relaxation area; breakfast. Could do better: Decor is dated; booked a suite, not sure that’s what we got - small double bed wasn’t great; shower curtain! Who knew that these still existed?!

I usually stay at the Lodge - the breakfast is better at the Hotel, but my room was dated, no plug sockets near the bed and the bathroom has seen better days... The Lodge is simpler and more basic, but is so much more modern - and the WIFI is much better !! The room I had (202) was a suite but due to the above was 'average' at best

Great nights sleep in room 104. Surprisingly quiet for a ground floor room next to the car park. The fridge in the room is also really handy. Couldn’t fault it and would definitely recommend/stay again.

Lovely stay, except the air con was not effective in room so had a sleepless first night, then after being offered fans had a better second night’s sleep.

Hotel and service overall was amazing. I liked the small details in rooms, eg take away coffee cups. Beds super comfy Pillow menu was great Staff really attentive Brown wood furniture needs to go from rooms. Room doors are so heavy they just slam shut. Rooms really need soundproofing

Large room in a quality hotel. Service was a little slack. Car park barrier would not lift and no one available, with delay of several minutes to exit! Good people, but appeared understaffed.

Very comfortable and enjoyable weekend break. We were greeted by Kate on reception who was very helpful and friendly. Pool and facilities were clean as was the room. Restaurant staff were pleasant and friendly at breakfast. Only issue we had was key cards kept not working so kept needing to be reactivated

A great holiday for a spa break, fantastic facial, good food at the restaurant and nice rooms. A little issue at the start of our trip was quickly sorted out by Josh who provided exemplary customer service throughout our stay. Would highly recommend

Everything was lovely, especially liked the extra touches in the bedroom for my daughter (mini robe and slippers, wash set, play book and crayons, plus a cookie). The only let down was this morning at breakfast they were 4 staff short we were told and it was very clear in the service, we waited over 20mins for our drinks, our whole breakfast went were in there about an hour and a half which made us slightly late for check out, it was a shame as it left an amazing stay with a bad ending.

Fantastic hotel, staff very miserable and quite rude especially the bar staff. Breakfast was a shambles. A coffee machine would relieve so much stress on the staff. Getting coffee was like pulling teeth.

For a large hotel the staff were very friendly and efficient.

Have stayed before on a number of occasions for business and visiting family in area as we lived close by some years ago and my work office was in area. So know hotel. Wry well and lived nearby when it was being built. Hotel is usually very good, convenient, close to amenities although always felt a little expensive considering breakfast is an extra and using the pool is an extra. However, staff always good, food good and hotel has a nice ambience to make for a pleasant stay IF you can get a good deal. This time however, we had room 200 which was right over the laundry area and cobble stone passageway they roll trolleys of laundry out from 05:30 to 06:30 or close to those times and the noise of the trollies woke us up on both morning we stayed this time. The first time we thought it was a one off but then next day same very load rumbling noise of trollies on cobble stone pathway. My advice stay away from any room near 200. Also had to advise reception on leaving that the toilet pan needed bleaching or cleaning as mould over one of the water flushing holes near the front rim was not very pleasant but a good clean and bleach would sort I’m sure. Would we stay again.. yes definitely but not in room 200 or anywhere near and I’d check toilet pan for mould before using room.

Lovely big room, only needed Accomodation but wished I’d booked some Spa treatments 🤔 maybe next time. Very convenient location, just off M27 and perfect for a spot of shopping at Whitely Village

Really nice and quaint hotel. Conveniently located near shopping centre, restaurants and motorway. Spa facilities were good. Room sizes are great but slightly dated and could be better maintained. Thought out room facilities and amenities really well! Staff were fantastic - really friendly and helpful!

Good: family friendly, swimming pool, nice bathroom and White Company toiletries. Robes, Spa and changing rooms. Quiet, nice grounds. Breakfast. Good wine list. Good decor and impressive looking restaurant. Made for a great relaxing weekend for us as a family before kids are back at school. Could do better: reception greeting on arrival - was told booking via Expedia meant we couldn't use spa (totally incorrect). Staff were overall helpful but gave average service; I think this was lack of training rather than lack of care, eg checking on us, topping up drinks. Something for management to work on. Would have wanted more for the price it costs to eat there. Food too expensive. Could be a better lunch option as we didn't want to pay £18 for a sandwich and kids menu was the same for lunch and dinner which gave them less choice. Sunday lunch was poor - fatty cut of meat meant very little was able to be eaten. Would recommend for a weekend break but maybe seek other food options if you don't want to spend too much each meal time.

Really nice experience with my family on a mini break. Super friendly and helpful staff and the Spa was lovely. Food and drink options are great, room was nice and the breakfast experience was first class with so much choice.

Very underwhelmed at our stay here. Whilst the pool and spa area were nice, you have to pay additional to use just the pool (£30 for a family of 4 or £15 per person). The hotel as a whole is very dated, and check in took 30 mins as check in system is very very slow. Rooms are very cramped, there were 4 of us in a room and barely any space for a cot. Whilst they have the white company toiletries, the bath is super narrow. The food at the parsons restaurant (more a sports bar) was terrible, burger was burnt. Breakfast however was nice (you can order avocado and poached eggs). Overall giving 2 stars as the value is really bad and I won’t be staying here again

Room was comfortable, but could do with updating. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Dinner was good, but breakfast (eggs Benedict) wasn't. Lovely pool, but at £266 for one night's B&B, we were surprised to be asked for another £30 to use it. To sum up, good overall, but poor value for money.

This is a reps place. pointless for a romantic getaway. The food was dreadfull!

Ordered room service, fish and chips, and it was dripping in grease and hardly and fish, just batter.
