Oakhil is a very nice smallish, homely hotel in beautiful grounds and countryside. We stayed in an ex carriage room so a bit dark but comfy. Main schandaliers wouldn't turn on to give more light. Food outweighs any minor complaint, as evening menu was varied and delicious. Breakfast was good but not memorable. If you're looking for a hotel near Matlock etc, try this one. It's good value, comfortable with yummy food.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, ideal for a walk any time of day. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive (shoutout to James, just one of the many who made our stay delightful).Our room was very clean and comfortable and overlooked the beautiful well maintained gardens at the rear of the hotel. The bathroom was very spacious with a large roll top bath and powerful overhead shower. Breakfast was self service for cereals and juice, with table service for a choice of cooked dishes including kippers and full English. There’s plenty of parking on site. I would highly recommend The Oakhill if you’re staying in the area it is a little gem. Would definitely go back.

I stayed overnight and enjoyed a very good dinner, a satisfactory continental breakfast and a well-organised and varied buffet lunch (for a funeral party). I would stay at the Oakhill again if I needed to spend time in that neighbourhood.

A lovely place to stay and we were in a quirky ground floor room in the old stable block which was very nice although susceptible to noise from adjoining rooms. The grounds are lovely to relax in and the food was very good (although avoid the poor, undercooked apple pie). Good breakfast. Three minor criticisms. There was no sink plug, there was no shelf in the bathroom to put your own toiletries on (we had to use the top of the radiator) and, like many hotels, in a double room there was only one chair !! However we will definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.
