Stayed 1 night

I booked the Honeymoon Suite although just on business. I fear had I booked it as part of an actual honeymoon that divorce would have quickly followed. The location is quaint in the middle of a village and the building itself is decent but it is being run on a very tight budget with the ownership mentality being to squeeze whatever profits they can whilst not reinvesting at all. I checked in quite early on one of the warmer days of the year to be told that there was not a fan available at all which led to quite a sticky night's sleep. The room was ok and apparently having a 2 seater sofa constitutes being able to refer to it as a suite. The décor was quite tired and it was really rough in the bathroom with shoddy paintwork, sealing and grouting. The hot tub bath only worked as a bath. I booked it partly on the strength that there was an onsite gym. The description of it being a gym did some very heavy lifting (pun well intended). Of the 3 treadmills - one was off, one was one but the screen not functioning and the third one allowed you to set a program but the go/start button didn't work. I managed to squeeze a workout out of the cables that were there. The bar area looked quite dingy and I decided not to have their breakfast afraid of the quality of ingredients based on my observations of everything else. What initially looked like value for money very quickly became you get what you pay for and as a result I will be avoiding in the future.

The staff , Sophie and Amy(? Receptionist )were excellent, and could not be faulted, especially when the management pushed against the already agreed fried breakfast, and called the receptionist in from home to tell me I only had access to a ‘continental’ breakfast rather than a cooked one. I offered to discuss the issue directly with the management, but they still pushed and I had to show a screenshot of the messages I had received from the hotel indicating a cooked breakfast was included. Again, this was via the unfortunate receptionist, who had returned to the hotel, and I assume would not be paid. In the end it was reluctantly agreed, to allow my partner and me to have the expected cooked food. The breakfast was excellent- thank you Sophie. As an aside the single pillows were rock hard and at 0300 we were serenaded by a nearby rookery
