The Parsonage Hotel & Spa

Hotel was excellent. Staff were great would recommend the Hotel and would stay there again. However booked a 1hr session at the spar which was cancelled by the spar only 2 hours before the due time, offered the next day but for only 1/2 hour and not the treatment required so declined.The pool and jucosy were however excellent The Fat Abbot pub?? Booked a meal at the resteraunt got a pub meal in the pub poor service and not Gastro food. Believe that the resteraunt had been taken over by a coach party that had arrived that afternoon. Worst of all on departure was given an invoice which indicated we had payed considerably more for the room to Hotel.com than if we had booked direct. Still waiting for an explanation about that.

Nice enough hotel, a little tired, with lovely staff. However. I cannot remember what century it was a spa hotel had a buffet breakfast… That’s just bad. What’s worse is….yes the spa is included, however your room has no dressing gowns or slippers. That’s £10.50 extra at the spa. Want a towel? That’s another £1. In what world is that a good pricing policy? Nice pool. Not so nice to have a warm sauna and a warm steam room……

Showers once again did not work None of the male showers were working and the shower in between the sauna’s do not now work on cold They seem to be a constant issue as this was the Same as last time I stayed They had just got them fixed and now they are not working again Not very good for a spa hotel

The Hotel is lovely when you drive in although it is easy to miss the entrance. Our room was in the Coach House and was clean but a little dated. The Spa is lovely and clean but lacks beds for the amount of people that visit it, and the changing rooms lack personal changing lockers. The Sauna and the steam room are not very hot but again they were nice and clean and you can hire a robe, towel and slippers for £10 per person for the duration of your stay. Although we did not get a treatment they were reasonably priced. The Fat Abbot attached to the hotel is lovely but a tad expensive £9.50 for a wine. The bar staff are not very friendly and lack a smile or conversation. We had to book our table for the evening meal which was fine and the meal was delicious. On our 2nd night we opted for some light bites of a cheese board but was told it was a special the night before so we could not have it and the waiter would not check if it was possible, we then opted for pizza and was told they had no dough we then asked for some olives and garlic bread again we were told this was not available this was at 7.30. Breakfast was ok and self service but the staff did not tell us this just told us to sit where we wanted again not much in the way of communication or smiles from any of the waiters. The hotel is a 20 minute drive form York City Centre and cost just £10 with UBER. Overall the stay was pleasant but I think the staff should be a bit more welcoming and smile a bit more.

Helpful staff, beautiful building and the room was well cared for. Onsite spa and pool were lovely and the breakfast was fabulous.

Spa area is amazing. Pool perfect temp. Steam rioms, sauna and aromatherapy rooms wonderful. Jacuzzi, warm but the hydro beds were not working. Gym well equipped but old weight machines. Staff were excellent, welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Parking is excellent. Room was spacious, lean and tidy however, the ironing board and iron do need replacing as stained quite badly so unuseable. Easy to get into York as a bus stops almost outside and is only £2.50 single, takes approximately 20 minutes. Overall an amazing stay, well worth the money and their pub next door does amazing food. Cant wait to return.

The stay was fine. Honestly I expected a bit more. The room was fine, quite basic, the bathroom was really dirty, the bath/shower area was very mouldy which was very unpleasant

Second visit here. This time we were given a room in the fat Abbot onsite. The room was small, bathroom door didn’t open fully as it hit the bed, the walls were really dusty with large handing bundles of cobwebs and when my hubby went to turn the tv on discovered there was no aerial as someone had snapped the connection off the back. The bed runner had stains and tbh really put us off. Definitely won’t rush back here. Clearly no care or pride is taken when cleaning the rooms . The spa is nice onsite and has decent facilities

had a lovely stay grounds and gastro pub fab, room was quite tired but clean and the bed was comfortable, view from the window was nice. The breakfast was lovely the only issue we had was flies in the pub on the terrace and even in the room but that was our fault it was such a lovely day we opened the window

Externally the hotel is lovely. Once you get inside you have a very cramped reception area manned by staff who in the main struggle to acknowledge you. It has an air of a care home qith a musty smell in the public areas. The bar staff at the Fat Abbot pub are abrupt and seem bothered by the fact that your very presence interferes with their day. The spa is good and we spent a fair bit of time swimming and enjoying the jacuzzi and the speciality rooms. I had an Elemis soul reviver treatment which was good, but i do love Elemis. The room was ok, a little dated but then you dont see the room when your eyes are closed! We made our stay our own and the proximity to the designer outlet and york were good. Bar service in the hotel bar(which also was smelly) was pretty much non existent and it was actually quite a chore to get a g and t, i even didnt get a lemon and the ice was minimal. This hotel has such potential if only someone was prepared to clean up the dust and cobwebs, change the carpets and general 80's decor, oh, and get shot of the plastic flowers in random teapots!

Lovely setting in a old manor property. Full use of spa facilities upgrades to an average experience the otherwise lackluster things. No toiletries other than small bar of soap. Went to ask for more and they could not find any. Bath tub was very dirty upon arrival along with dust and cobwebs throughout room. Room very hot despite a cool day outside and desk fan on througout. Service was slow in the breakfast (buffet style but had to flag a server for coffee despite being there quite a while. Observed others in same situarion) and dining room.

Lovely hotel, always spotlessly clean & very friendly. This is the third time I have been back. The spa is very relaxing & breakfast is fantastic, lots of choice. Great bus service to York.

Pleasant hotel grounds. Room was big and overlooked the garden. It was quiet and private. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were flat and hard and need replacing. The food in the adjoining gastro pub was only average for the price. The breakfast was buffet style which is poor for a 4 star hotel. I expected cooked to order for the price paid for the stay. Did not use the spa facilities but the pool was large.

The room was peaceful and we had a good nights sleep. The room was a little tired but was still clean. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The spa area was also relaxing, again a little tired but was still very pleasant.

The property in general but particularly the room l was in was incredibly hot and the radiator could not be turned down, l had to sleep with the window wide open and woke in the morning feeling ill from the heat. There was also a strange bang/cluncking sound coming from a corner of the room (probably due to the central heating) this was during my entire stay . The hotel itself is a beautiful old building and nicely decorated but I’m not sure l would stay there again..

No WiFi and no telephone in the room so couldn't work. And above a noisy pub. Do not stay here

Stayed at the hotel numerous times before due to getting married at the venue and returning on our anniversary.Great that you get to use the spa facilities and choice of food options on sight. This time however our room was above the Fat Abbot pub on property. Our room was above the pub toilet with the hand drier going off, music from downstairs heard in our room until 10.50pm due to speaker in the toilet ceiling. 2x holes in the room floor, room needed repainting, skylight had been leaking at some point due to brown water marks and rather dusty. We felt like the hotel had over booked and we were given an inadequate room. We were very disappointed with our stay this time.

3rd stay here, room has always been comfortable. This time we were in Room 6 above the Reception area. The room had been renovated to a good standard, however the Windows need serious attention - 2 large gaps under the bottom & the hinge had pulled off one side. Thankfully this was in June as we can imagine if a strong cold wind was blowing it would be very draughty - at least! Breakfast was excellent, the Fat Abbott Pub menu needs an update though, choices very limited. On each of the 3 occasions we have visited they had 'run out' of at least one item on the Menu.

Lovely room, clean and spacious

Room was quite dated & basic for the price. I was put in the lodge where the walls are paper thin as the person in the next room was snoring & it was like they were in my room with me, also a tv was on in the room next door at 7am so not much sleep,breakfast was average. Tired drive back to London

Lovely hotel. Our room was light airy and a good size with patio doors and a little outdoor space. Breakfast was nice & the added bonus of having a Spa & Pub in site was great!

Asked for a room in the Annexe as these rooms had been modernised. The hotel duly obliged, we stayed in Riveaux a large comfortable room overlooking the country fields Very quiet and relaxing

A pleasant experience for my 1 night stay. The service, the comfort, the food were all on point with little to criticise. A perfect spot if you are visiting York or nearby towns by vehicle as there was ample parking available on-site that is in close proximity to the living lodges. The check-in and check-out process were seamless and efficient. What I felt was extra memorable was the meal at the hotel's pub restaurant which slightly exceeded my expectations. The lamb pie in particular was rather engaging as when I had cut into the pie, a perfume of that inviting gamey aroma gives that immediate expression of rustic nostalgia. The tender well cooked meat that is seasoned thoughtfully did not disappoint the beautiful aroma that had set the scene. Overall it was a pleasant meal that was fulfilling, well-valued and felt authentic. The breakfast was adequate but definitely paled in energy relatively. However, the service throughout my stay was exceptional, where staff was both professional and welcoming, which greatly enhanced my overall experience and I greatly appreciates.

First of all I would like to say how wonderful the young receptionist was she was so helpful. I have stayed in many hotels but she was by far the nicest receptionist I have ever seen. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

For me, it’s the staff that make this hotel… all fabulous

I went for food in the restaurant pub, i asked for the bill waited fir 30 minute's and had to go to the bar as i 30 minute's wait for a bill is shocking. Will not be staying there again.

Check In: Waited at the reception desk for 20 minutes before we even saw a staff member. There were multiple other people also waiting. Turns out there was a wedding on and the ONE person working on reception was running around the whole property to check if rooms were ready as house keeping were not communicating back. Everyone's check-in was late, and some wedding guests didn't get into their rooms until 2.30 or later with the wedding due to start at 3pm. The guy himself was trying his best, but had no help or support from anyone else. I think we got to our room almost 90 minutes late. Hotel Room: TV Remote didn't work. Room is outdated and was also dirty. All cups were dirty and most of the room hadn't been wiped down in months. To sleep you have a choice of listening to a constant loud buzzing should you keep your key card inserted, or if you want no lights or anything else to work until morning, you can remove the card and the buzzing stops, but so does everything else. Breakfast: Walk in to a sign that says wait to be seated. To wait and then be shouted by the person on reception to just walk in. Again no staff anywhere. ALL cups dirty once again. Raised this to the staff who mocked my wife for the way she spoke and then came back to say we can't find any clean ones so these will have to do. Check out: Tried charging me again as their system was down so just guessed. They called me later for outstanding charges. But still can't pay as nobody every answers the phone!

Great hotel a few miles south of York, Bus stop just up the road so you can have a drink or two when in York, or the park and ride less than 10 minutes drive. Great room and lovely breakfast, and a decent restaurant next door for evening meals. Use of the swimming pool, steam rooms etc as well, so a perfect place for a relaxing break. We will be back.

We had a great experience at the parsonage hotel , comfortable clean and great service , especially liked the swimming pool and spa , friendly helpful staff definitely would go back , also very easy bus routes for York and cheap fares, so no expensive car park or hassle of getting into the city.👏😊

An excellent hotel on the outskirts of York. Good transport outside to get you into the city centre. Spa facilities ok that are opened for a good length of time. Breakfast at a high quality. Gastric on site good food

Lovely grounds, easy to travel into York, great location

We stayed at this hotel whilst visiting York Races.The hotel is situated approximately 6 miles from York city centre and we were able to leave our car in the (free) hotel car park then get on the no 415 bus after a five minute walk to the bus stop which took us to York centre about 25mins. The Hotel and spa are in lovely surroundings with outside gardens and seating .We visited the Fat Abbott pub for drinks and used the pool and sauna and steam rooms before a lovely breakfast the following day. Our double standard bedroom was spacoius and very comfortable. All the staff, on Reception ,in the bar area and on breakfast duty were extremely helpful and friendly . There were lots of different areas in the hotel with lovely decor and seating to have a relaxing time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Parsonage Hotel and Spa and would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. We hope to return. Thanks.

East to get to and explore from, bus to York is next to the hotel and cheeper than paying for parking. Hotel has a great history and lots of facilities including spa. Breakfast is plentiful and staff very attentive. Will be staying at this hotel again.

Beautiful hotel. We had a room ìn The Coach House. It was clean and updated. The staff were all great. Breakfast was lovely. The only thing which lets the hotel down is they dont serve lunch and dinner. The Fat Abbot pub is in the grounds of the hotel. The quality of the food in the pub is good but the menu is pretty basic and doesn't change. We didnt use the pool and spa but it looked lovely. We would definitely go there again.

Hotel friendyly and comfortable. Breakfast good and plenty of choice. Dining in the pub was disappointing as limited choice nad invested with flys.

Staff very pleasant. Food in the Fat Abbot is good but a limited menu. They also run out of popular items on occasion.

Good location for the Designer Shopping outlet and Park and Ride into York. Also hotel didn’t seem too busy even though there was a full car park. Quiet hotel with very good Leisure facilities. Breakfast probably the best we have had.

Large twin room, but so hot even with window open all night. There was a fan but not much difference. Large bathroom but with a step up shower cubical quite small and could do with updating . Was very disappointed when we tried to book a table for two in The Fat Abbot restaurant that is on site and was told that no tables available due to a large group. When I said we were guests of the hotel and did they not have reservations for guests we were told only if half board was booked. There was a Thai restaurant a very short walk away, the only other eating establishment in the area, and the food in there was superb, so we probably had a better experience there. The spa was very clean and very kept, didn’t like the fact that you were expected to pay for the hire of a towel and if you wanted to use a robe and slippers it was £10 . Breakfast was fresh and tasty.
