Comfortable, charming hotel. Reception staff helpful, cleaning good, some staff lacking customer awareness and politeness. Maybe at end of September it could be a matter of not enough staff. Beautiful views from the upstairs roof terrace but on arrival told not in use even though advertised on website and inside the hotel...a great disappointment. As the roof area was unavailble there was very limited outside seating in bar area. Limited facilities for lunch or light snacks, but nice gesture in providing canapés with evening aperitifs. However, please take these as constructive comments as we had a nice stay.

La terrasse rooftop n'était pas opérationnelle début juin donc déception et le mini bar se résume à deux bouteilles d'eau. Les photos sont très flatteuses la piscine est encaissée et sa place rikiki. Sinon l'hôtel est très correct et surtout il est extrêmement bien placé par rapport aux îles bornoyées et même au Lido. Pour le calme ça doit dépendre des chambres, pas pour la nôtre (beaucoup de motos et sur le chemin qui mène au ferry). Le minibar aussi ronronne trop dans la chambre la nuit.

Hôtel un peu ancien qui mériterait une rénovation. Baignoire haute sur pied dans la salle de bains, de l'eau qui fuit partout, une odeur d'égouts... Fenêtres anciennes fermant mal. Par ailleurs, bonne literie et chambre spacieuse et bon petit déjeuner, le personnel est a l'écoute et sympathique. Dommage que la piscine ne soit pas chauffée ou couverte la nuit pour garder les calories accumulées de la journée.

Chambre spacieuse et propre. Les matelas sont à changer. Le reste de la literie est bien notamment les oreillers. Personnel accueillant. Ambiance cosy. Le parking de l'hôtel est un vrai plus. Le centre de Stresa est facile d'accès à pied par un agréable chemin le long du lac qui part à côté de l'hôtel. Petit-déjeuner copieux et varié. Déception quant au restaurant. Le rapport qualité-prix du dîner n'est pas très bon. Il est préférable de dîner à l'extérieur.

However, the terrace bar daytime service was somewhat haphazard and limited. And Unfortunately there was one particular barman who worked Thursday, Friday, Saturday evening who was downright rude. And thus let his colleagues down. Such a shame!!

Bartender is a highlight. Very old school dining room with good food. But the crowd here is older for sure. Groundskeeper is excellent (gorgeous landscaping). Patio view is fabulous. Nice pool and walking distance to Stresa.& the ferries. They need an actual shower.

Absolutely wonderful stay at this immaculate and welcoming hotel in an idyllic and convenient location. Clean and comfortable rooms, very helpful reception staff, excellent aperitivo with the generous bartenders, and a terrace up top with an unbeatable view. Convenient walk (~15 min) to the center of Stresa along the picturesque lungolago and easy access to the docks to visit the nearby islands. A lovely stay.

Wir haben 10 Tage im Hotel verbracht und waren vollauf zufrieden. Sauberkeit im Haus, im Zimmer, am Pool sehr gut. Freundliches und aufmerksames Personal in allen Bereichen. Besonders gefallen hat uns die Dachterrasse mit dem wunderschönen Blick auf den See und die Inseln. Praktisch auch die Nähe zum Schiffsanleger. Der einzige Makel war für uns die zu kleine Dusche in unserer Zimmerkategorie. Die Platzkapazität für eine größere wäre da, aber ein italienisches Hotelzimmer ohne Bidet geht wahrscheinlich nicht. Jedenfalls ist das Hotel Royal uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert. Danke für den tollen Aufenthalt.

Pleasant hotel with good staff and facilities. It is positioned close to the dock for boats to the islands and a 15 min stroll to the main part of Stresa. The train station is a 10 minute walk, though on roads without pavements. Our room could have done with a refresh but the main negative was we could often smell the drainage system in our bathroom. Our bathroom also had a large roll top bathtub instead of a shower which might be difficult for someone of limited mobility.

This property is an excellent three-star one as in some aspects it is better than three-star. Firstly, the staff are lovely. They are very welcoming and helpful. They really make the place. Secondly, the hotel is well-maintained and has amenities and services that you usually don’t get with three-star hotels such as the pool and the option of dining there (we had one dinner and it was very good and reasonably priced). The hotel is family-run and I feel this shows in the overall ambience and slightly olde worlde feel (nice paintings and furniture; more interesting than a chain hotel). It’s only a 5- minute walk from the boats to the islands and 15 into the centre. Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Stresa. It was fantastic and we got it for a very reasonable price on Expedia.

Magnifique hôtel, bien situé à Stresa, au calme , à 2 minutes à pied du port pour prendre le bateau pour les îles Borromeo . Le personniel est souriant et très efficace . Belle chambre avec une très belle vu . Seul petit bémol, l isolation phonique entre les chambres est à améliorer ( on entend assez vite ses voisins)

The property was within easy walking of the main town of Stresa and much less expensive than the large hotels. It was also very convenient for accessing the ferries to the Borromean islands, a jewel of Lake Maggiore. The hotel decor was luxurious and the restaurant, which served a full buffet breakfast, overlooked a patio and gardens. The view from the roof top terrace was lovely. The only hitch was that I could not get the WiFi in my room to work so I had to use the WiFi in the main lounge. Overall, however, this was a very pleasant experience.

We loved our stay at the Royal Hotel. Our room was spacious, comfortable, clean & had a large balcony with wonderful views over Lago Maggiore! The walk into town takes about 15 minutes, which we were happy with. Great exercise! The staff are what makes the hotel special. Always smiling, always cheerful & happy to help. Wonderful buffet breakfast, too! One small improvement would be tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Otherwise can't fault it & would definitely stay there again.

Fairly comfortable but AC didn’t work well and there was no ceiling fan. No shower but I really did enjoy the large bathtub! Breakfast was nice. Towels were old and somewhat stained. We appreciated that parking was free and there was a fridge in the room. We wouldn’t stay here again though.

Das Hotel ist schön gelegen mit Sicht auf den See. Es liegt etwas ausserhalb von Stresa; der Stadtkern ist jedoch via die Seepromenade zu Fuss in 15 Minuten zu erreichen. Pleasant hotel with good staff and facilities. It is positioned close to the dock for boats to the islands and a 15 min stroll to the main part of Stresa. The train station is a 10 minute walk, though on roads without pavements. Our room could have done with a refresh but the main negative was we could often smell the drainage system in our bathroom. Our bathroom also had a large roll top bathtub instead of a shower which might be difficult for someone of limited mobility.

Absolutely wonderful stay at this immaculate and welcoming hotel in an idyllic and convenient location. Clean and comfortable rooms, very helpful reception staff, excellent aperitivo with the generous bartenders, and a terrace up top with an unbeatable view. Convenient walk (~15 min) to the center of Stresa along the picturesque lungolago and easy access to the docks to visit the nearby islands. A lovely stay.

Hotel is very good all round. The only problem is breakfast service especially the serving of tea and coffee. Some of the young staff couldn't cope with the amount of people and one seemed rude although i put that down to language barriers and inexperience. We complained to reception and management seemed to take note as there more senior people serving after that.

Fabulous hotel with helpful and welcoming staff. Great views of Lake Maggiore and surrounding mountains especially from the rooftop terrace. Breakfast was a joy in the gorgeous dining room opened up to the outside terrace. Walk into Stresa town centre would be difficult for anyone with difficulties as it was almost 1 mile. For us it was a fantastic stroll along the lakefront promenade - what a vista! Ferry boats to the Borremean Islands and many places around Lake Maggiore go from the dock at Carciano which is just a few minutes walk from Hotel Royal. Perfect location. And we loved the vases filled with hydrangeas making the reception, bar and seating areas such a pleasure to sit and relax. Thanks to all for a lovely stay.

Very comfortable room, too hot to use the balcony but that didn’t matter. Lovely bathroom, clean towels and nice big bath towel. Shower was good. Tv worked well with British channels. Swimming pool clean and pleasant early evening. Restaurant service excellent but some choices of main course not enticing. Very quiet and easy access to lake side and ferries.

The room had everything we needed. Breakfast was plentiful and the pool was great to rest by in the afternoon. Hotel was an easy 20min walk to the train station, town centre and boat tour departure areas. Staff were helpful and check-in/out was easy. Would stay here gain.

This property is an excellent three-star one as in some aspects it is better than three-star. Firstly, the staff are lovely. They are very welcoming and helpful. They really make the place. Secondly, the hotel is well-maintained and has amenities and services that you usually don’t get with three-star hotels such as the pool and the option of dining there (we had one dinner and it was very good and reasonably priced). The hotel is family-run and I feel this shows in the overall ambience and slightly olde worlde feel (nice paintings and furniture; more interesting than a chain hotel). It’s only a 5- minute walk from the boats to the islands and 15 into the centre. Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Stresa. It was fantastic and we got it for a very reasonable price on Expedia.

This hotel is really worn down. We were a bit disappointed with the state of the hotel and especially the rooms needed renovation. The squeaky floors from the neighbors woke us up in the morning and the refrigerator was also really noisy. We could hear everything that was going on in the hallway and the rooms next door. The atmosphere was 1970’s, in a cool way, but things were just a little too worn. Location was really good and the pool area was nice.
