Arrived on a Tuesday midafternoon had to wait a little to register in, but after tha all was fine. Our room was on the front but was fine very little noise. Plenty of plug sockets most also had charge point's made a pleasant chage. Bathroom was clean and tidy as was our room. There were 3 EV charges in the car park nice to see. We had meals both nights we stayed, had a good menu. Both meals where tasty and hot. Staff were welcoming, polite and easy to talk too. All in all goog value for money would stay again.

Evening food and drink was good. Breakfast could have done with offer of cereals, fruit or Yoghurt. Fried breakfast was good. Four EV chargers were available which was good. Room not so good - TV not working (no signal) Heater not working. Poor shower controls. Window would not open.

A nice pub with plenty of parking. Beer garden looked good too. On first night we went to the cinema in Chesterfield. We got back at 10.30pm and pub had decided to close early. They let us buy a bottle though and take it to our room. Room was clean, comfortable, and very large bathroom. Everyone there were also really friendly. Pub is a 20 min walk from a great curry place too. Place itself is 10 mins drive from bakewell and Chatsworth house. Would recommend this place and would go back.

Stayed for one night, Saturday in July. The whole premises have recently gone through a big refurb and it really shows. A well laid out pub with dining areas, numerous different areas to eat and drink. Very friendly and attentive bar team. Dined the Saturday night. Not really a gastro pub ( I guess its not trying to be). Decent food all the same. Stayed in room 1. Nicely furnished with a good sized bathroom. Had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Great choice for breakfast. Lovely warm pastries. Would I recommend a stay here? - In short, Yes. A nice place to base yourself with everything you needed. A short drive from Bakewell. Check out their own website for room bookings as you get 20% of your food bill.

Overall everything was good. On the down side. The towel rail i. the bathroom was coming off the wall. The top fittings not up to the job. When mentioned to housekeeping i was told the problem wasn't new and it had been reported before. Infact it was a problem in other rooms.

The bathrooms are tired and alrhough the linens and towels were clean the room and bathroom had not been very well cleaned. I’m not looking for dirt but the dog paw on the mirror opened the door to suspicion really - we didn’t have a dog with us. Despite that the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. I’d like to say this is great value for money but the clean staff need some supervision. Thank you everyone else.

The room was spacious and clean, the big bed was very comfortable, we paid for breakfast separately but found it very reasonable and a very good selection. The food was quality produce. But my highest praise goes to the courtesy and service level provided by the staff. We had issues on our journey to the hotel and they could not of been more helpful and considerate. We will definitely be looking to stay here again.

Nice looking pub. The staff were all good, but it seemed like it was almost always a differ member of staff, whether being served our food or at the bar, or at breakfast. It would have felt a little less impersonal if the same members of staff had been serving us. The food, well my pie was O.K but my wife's fish was well overcooked, expensive for what it was. The breakfast was sparce and not cooked so well, also the tables were sticky, Oh! and we had to pay for our coffee's on top of an overpriced breakfast. I did like the pub area though. We stayed in a room with a roof as a view, bed was comfy enough, the bathroom did not feel at all inviting, bit shoddy. The staff seemed like a nice enough bunch though, the parking was easy, great location for us being near to Chatsworth and Bakewell. Excellent room, comfortable bed, very clean. Although I didn’t eat at the hotel, it was extremely busy throughout my stay, so obviously good food. Staff were welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help. Definitely recommend.

Staff were friendly and attentive. The room was very well presented, just a shame that there was no aiir conditioning which resulted in the room being excessively hot until almost midnight. The room was positioned above a kitchen door which kept banging shut till late and again from the beginning of breakfast which resonated up through the floor and onto the bed. We booked here on a whim when we decided to stay a further night in Derbyshire. The pub itself is nice with a small beer garden at the rear. The common areas of the hotel though were pretty worn especially around our room (number1). The room itself was small but clean, as was the bathroom. The issue for us was the heat. There’s no air con but the room (I think) is above or near the kitchen so when we’re shown the room, on not a particularly hot day, it was uncomfortably hot. The windows were already open but this means that you get noise from the kitchen and the noise of the air/con or extractors of the kitchen/ beer cellar which were switching on and off throughout the night. We did have a fan in the room which we had on most if the night but again it was pretty noisy. Not too sure about the other rooms, but situated where it is, room one could do with air con. The food and drinks were fine , standard chain pub fare. The hotel is well situated between Matlock and Bakewell on the edge of the Peak District

Not their fault, but the room was very hot. The kitchen fans were just outside the room and they stayed on all night. They were clearly understaffed for dinner in the evening and the breakfast menu online didn’t really make sense. However the staff were all really lovely and the surrounding areas were fantastic and worth a visit.

No check in when arrived manager on a break and no one else trained so had to wait , got no apology he he felt why should he apologise for been on a break !!!!! I had travelled with my American friends all day and we were all left furious at his attitude. I had booked in for dinner which I cancelled and we ate at the peacock in we received fantastic customer service . Will not be returning very disappointed

All good except TV in room 2. Husband needs subtitles to watch, hearing lose/ stroke. Couldn’t find anywhere in settings. I did ask for help and told someone would look at it. No one came back to me and it was just the same following day.

Excellent room, comfortable bed, very clean. Although I didn’t eat at the hotel, it was extremely busy throughout my stay, so obviously good food. Staff were welcoming and couldn’t do enough to help. Definitely recommend.

We chose the G&C for an overnight stay after a day at Chatsworth House, due to its location and proximity to the house. The welcome was bright and warm, just like the rooms. The rooms were spacious and modern, well decorated and clean, with comfy beds and great facilities. Tea and coffee were good and the bathrooms were clean and tidy. We chose to take breakfast and dinner in the bar. The breakfast was lovely and set us up for our journey. The dinner the night before was a touch disappointing. The veggie sausage and mash used the same cheap vegan sausage used for the breakfast, which we're not appropriate for a hearty evening meal. This is not the fault of the chef or pub team but a poor choice by the menu development chef at head office. Other than suggesting you look a little further afield for dinner, I'd recommend the G&C for a short stay in the Derbyshire Dales. The team made us feel welcome here.

We booked here on a whim when we decided to stay a further night in Derbyshire. The pub itself is nice with a small beer garden at the rear. The common areas of the hotel though were pretty worn especially around our room (number1). The room itself was small but clean, as was the bathroom. The issue for us was the heat. There’s no air con but the room (I think) is above or near the kitchen so when we’re shown the room, on not a particularly hot day, it was uncomfortably hot. The windows were already open but this means that you get noise from the kitchen and the noise of the air/con or extractors of the kitchen/ beer cellar which were switching on and off throughout the night. We did have a fan in the room which we had on most if the night but again it was pretty noisy. Not too sure about the other rooms, but situated where it is, room one could do with air con. The food and drinks were fine , standard chain pub fare. The hotel is well situated between Matlock and Bakewell on the edge of the Peak District

A nice pub with plenty of parking. Beer garden looked good too. On first night we went to the cinema in Chesterfield. We got back at 10.30pm and pub had decided to close early. They let us buy a bottle though and take it to our room. Room was clean, comfortable, and very large bathroom. Everyone there were also really friendly. Pub is a 20 min walk from a great curry place too. Place itself is 10 mins drive from bakewell and Chatsworth house. Would recommend this place and would go back.

Nice looking pub. The staff were all good, but it seemed like it was almost always a differ member of staff, whether being served our food or at the bar, or at breakfast. It would have felt a little less impersonal if the same members of staff had been serving us. The food, well my pie was O.K but my wife's fish was well overcooked, expensive for what it was. The breakfast was sparce and not cooked so well, also the tables were sticky, Oh! and we had to pay for our coffee's on top of an overpriced breakfast. I did like the pub area though. We stayed in a room with a roof as a view, bed was comfy enough, the bathroom did not feel at all inviting, bit shoddy. The staff seemed like a nice enough bunch though, the parking was easy, great location for us being near to Chatsworth and Bakewell. The place could be really great, it's part the way there, nice décor in the pub. I think either lower the prices, especially the food or up the quality. Great location for visiting many lovely properties, towns and villages. Lived up to its description for accommodation which was extremely welcome. Lovely room, bathroom and comfy bed with well sourced comfort tray. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend this Marston’s Inn and will be making it our go to place to stay when in the area. Arriving in Derbyshire day 1 afternoon visited Hardwick Hall. Day 2 at Chatsworth Xmas (10 mins away) day 3 morning Hadden Hall Xmas (5 mins away) before heading for home.

The room was lovely (room 5) with a very comfy bed, decent enough facilities, but no complimentary biscuits, which is unusual, but understandable in these times. The staff are very friendly and helpful, rushed off their feet as most places, but knew what they were doing. Food was lovely and varied, breakast and dinner

Evening food and drink was good. Breakfast could have done with offer of cereals, fruit or Yoghurt. Fried breakfast was good. Four EV chargers were available which was good. Room not so good - TV not working (no signal) Heater not working. Poor shower controls. Window would not open.

Stayed for one night, Saturday in July. The whole premises have recently gone through a big refurb and it really shows. A well laid out pub with dining areas, numerous different areas to eat and drink. Very friendly and attentive bar team. Dined the Saturday night. Not really a gastro pub ( I guess its not trying to be). Decent food all the same. Stayed in room 1. Nicely furnished with a good sized bathroom. Had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Great choice for breakfast. Lovely warm pastries. Would I recommend a stay here? - In short, Yes. A nice place to base yourself with everything you needed. A short drive from Bakewell. Room was clean but dated and could do with a refresh. Evening meal was excellent, I had the steak & Malbec pie and it is one of the best pies I have ever eaten. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, there were two of us and one wanted black pudding and one didn’t but neither got any, nor did we get the fried bread, there were only two juices available, orange and apple (I think) but the orange juice ran out and not replenished although there were staff around. You could have tea or coffee by request but only one latte or cappuccino, there were no cereals, fruit or danish etc which you would expect from a hotel chain such as this (Marstons). However the staff, especially at dinner, were absolutely fantastic, always on hand to help and not too overbearing with the usual ‘is your meal ok’ type scenario. They are a credit to the company. The reason for the 3 stars is the room needing updating and the breakfast.

We had a lovely stay at the Grouse and Claret. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and very comfortable. The food was absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much.

Helpful and courteous staff. I would like to commend Sam and Tom at reception. Sam assisted with a quick and smooth check‑in, and Tom took good care in serving breakfast and provided guidance on local walking trails, which were enjoyable.
