Lovely place. Quite a small bed which we aren’t used to. Could do with a kettle in the room. Breakfast was probably the best we have ever had! Sumptuous!

While the central location was good, we sadly fell for the marketing hype. Our luxury stay at the Lion and Swan proved to be the exact opposite of peaceful. 1. Noise & Lack of Soundproofing Despite online claims of soundproofing, noise plagued our entire stay. Neighbours chatted, sang & stared us down, karaoke drifted up from below, and extractor fans buzzed all night. Earplugs provided by staff proved they know the issue exists. Between the noise and flimsy windows, we got minimal sleep, skipped breakfast entirely, and left early. 2. Room Quality & Safety The so-called luxury room featured abysmal build quality: loose drawer handles, extreme heat, a wonky TV, and a broken Tassimo lid. The bathroom had soap scum, a sharp exposed fitting near the toilet, watered-down shampoo, and a rainfall shower without a front screen, soaking the room completely. Safety felt like a complete afterthought. 3. Service & Facilities The layout is a maze with an unmanned reception desk. Despite our confirmed special occasion request, we didn't get the room with a bath as indicated. Too tired to complain, we just left. We had initially considered this for a wedding venue, but there is now zero chance we would ever host an event here. 4. Verdict Locals confirmed the hotel's poor reputation, which reportedly led to it coming last on an episode of Four in a Bed. While Congleton is a great town we will visit again, we will never step foot in the Lion and Swan. A lucky escape!

Amazing breakfast options, lovely cosy room. Could do with being able to open more windows but other than that it was great. On site parking, right in the centre of a lovely town. Highly recommend
