Riu Ocho Rios - All Inclusive

This was my second time at RIU Ocho Rios, and I already know it won’t be my last. The staff truly makes you feel at home, and by day two, everyone knows your name, which adds such a warm, personal touch to the stay. The pools were beautiful and well-maintained, and my room was clean and comfortable. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. My only real issue was with dinner reservations. I did get into the Italian restaurant, but it took a lot of persistence and multiple attempts to secure a reservation, which was a bit frustrating, only for it to be able to fit in my small party, but they could have accommodated x3 One thing worth noting: during checkout, I accidentally forgot to turn in my room key and towel card. I wanted to mention it here just in case, as it was an honest oversight. As a suggestion, I’d love to see a movie or game room for adults, as well as a teen club in the future. Overall, it’s a great resort, and I can’t wait to book my next trip back.

PROS: - smaller resort - stunning beach - great buffet food - Amazing entertainment every night, theme party once a week (either white or neon party, check the RIU app to see which one ahead of time) - Amazing friendly staff - 2 adults only pools - Fun activities planned throughout the day, something for everyone CONS: - No nightclub - 24 hour sports bar however only had dj some nights, therefore after the entertainment shows were over not much to do afterwards. We had to leave the resort to go to bars/clubs. - The restaurants on site were just okay, buffet was better. OVERALL RATING: 8/10

Nice all inclusive hotel, right on the beach. Good food at the restaurants and several bars to get drinks. It was clear that the entertainmwnt at this time of year was directed towards an adult group, since the entertainment only allowed adults to participate. This was not optimal traveling with kids 17, 15 and 10. The hotel has lost of what you need to a nice stay, but if you want to see more of Jamaica, you have to get a taxi or sign up for an expensive day trip. There was little to see outside the hotel. All in all, we had a great time, since the food was good, room nice and clean, great beach and the scoba center was great.

The parking was terrible, there was no where to park

Spa was beautiful and the garden veiw was beautiful. Spa was good and relaxig . Kid friendly too

We had a great experience at thie Riu resort, and will consider booking stays at this one or other Riu chain resorts in the future. The staff was amazing and so was the food. We stayed in the separate (family suites?) building by the waterslide area, so although that made for a longer walk, it was very quiet. The only reason for my lower cleanliness rating, was related to the fair amount dishes/garbage left around the property. But that is more to the blame of people staying there, not cleaning up after themselves, rather than the staff not doing it. Being on vacation does not give you the right to ignore garbage cans and dish collection areas! ;)

Grounds and facility are well maintained. We came 3 weeks after the hurricane Melissa so wasn’t expecting much as far as lush landscaping. The beach suffered some erosion but they were working hard to restore that. With some of the boughs from the coconut trees gone, shade was hard to find. Umbrellas or gazebos on the beach would be nice until such time as the trees come back. Staff are wonderful. Dining room staff were always welcoming. Buffet food is good and they do offer vegan dishes, however, nothing there’s no gluten free options for pasta or bread. Our 2 Bdrm unit was comfortable. The shower area does lack bars or hooks for hanging up Bath towels (we are enviro conscious and prefer not to change towels everyday). Had to use a hangar and hang our towels in the closet. It is a fair walk as well from the 2 Bdrm units to the dining/lobby/pool/beach so for anyone who has mobility issues it’s challenging! We did enjoy our stay.

The pillows and sheets needs to be updated. The lights and sprinkler systems along the driveway from the main entrance to the hotel needs repairs..overall I enjoy my stay and this was my second visit in 4 months. The parking lot needs to be managed much better and should be for people who pay to stay at the hotel. Am looking forward visit again very soon.

The room was spotless and very clean. However, our check-in was delayed because the room was not ready. If an upgrade is offered, guests should not be kept waiting until 4:30 p.m. to check in. To me, an upgrade means the room is ready upon arrival.

The rooms wasn’t ready when we got there, had to wait a hour. We had bugs in our room and ac wasn’t working properly. The food was okay but seen a bug at the buffet one of my nights there. Housekeeping was good with getting us what we needed far as towels and essentials. The hotel rooms needs to be upgraded.

My room was full of mold, in the AC unit and all the furniture. We got very sick during our stay there. I reached out to the front desk, but no one responded immediately, when I notified the housekeeper, she stated to me that they can put an air freshener in the AC vent and yet no one ever came back to assist us with that option. On our return home my roommates and I had to go to the emergency room. I'm seeking some type of compensation for my stay.

The main buffet was basic and repeated every morning and every night maybe with one entree changed. There were roaches crawling on counters where the buffet was located also roaches located and the bathroom of the rooms. Had a long flight getting there with check in was at 3:00 p.m. which was on the website but after checking in at 3:00 p.m. I was told check-in was now changed to 4:00 p.m. then 4:00 p.m. I was told I basically just had to wait on housekeeping to get the room together and a rude inconsidered manner by front desk staff.

The room was spotless. The whole entire place was very clean and all the staff was brilliant.

The property is beautiful, Awesome entertainment staff. Negative is the roaches you see in your room or the dining room table.

You arrive on time after 3pm to still have to wait 2 hrs to get your room keys after traveling all day. Mind you we stood in a long line to check in to still wait. We took our own bags up cause when the room was ready there was hardly any staff up front.Then your room is not cleaned well. The linens and towels smelled like mildew. It was hard to get clean wash clothes .we just brought some. We asked several times but kept getting towels.the food is not good. We all had the runs everyday. We kept looking for local food to eat but was taken to the cruise line Margaritaville where JamIndian restaurant was nasty and service was terrible.We stayed at the RIU in Negril before and the resort was very clean and food was pretty good with variety. The staff in Negril was amazing. The staff in RIU Ocho Rios some staff was helpful at times but more than a few had a nonchalant rude attitude. Regardless we still tipped good because it could be the corporation that creating the poor morale amongst the staff. Again in Negril everyone is so welcoming and we have stayed at several resorts in Negril.. they are just welcoming and nice there.This was a bigger RIU so I felt like they did the very bare minimum on food and hotel accommodations. The drinks and entertainment was better for a family that has older kids. If they fix the food/room accommodations/ check in process this would be a great place for family. They need up to date computers and technology to check in and out.

Beach needs a makeover. In room sofa’s needs shampooing nasty. And needs some room-service

Sand in bed, hallways often wet, they need to do a better job with maintenance and friendly staff.

The food was wonderful overall The cleanliness of the rooms was poor, our room was roach infested. This was reported to management and after constantly fighting with front desk staff we were given another room the second night.

comparing to my 1st visit there in 2017, this trip was a bit disappointing - overall quality of service went down the hill. had to wait half a day for them to open broken safe with my items inside (had to make at least 3 calls), the same with broken toilet - took them 3 attempts to fix it, delays with refilling soap. phone in my room did not work properly, they said they would replace it, never did.... when phone worked, i could never get anyone form reception to answer the phone (ext #9). food selection was much worse than first time, drinks are ok. except for entertainment team, workers were less friendly than last time (probably they are paid less and simply dont care), people at reception were especially lackadaisical. clientele of this place is much different than last time - seems they started catering more to loud, dirty hood rats... overall quality of this place went down the hill, you can see they are cutting corners anywhere they can. will not be coming back there for sure!!!!!!!!!!

Food was bland. Had to walk down 50 steps and back up 50 steps every time I left my room. Family building had no elevator. Went to bed hungry the last day because of those steps.

So when we first arrived at the hotel that night check in was not all that good. The reason being is when I booked a trip I booked for two twin beds and when we got to the reception she said they do not book room by beds they booked by View which did not make sense! If you book by view how do you know what type of bed is in the room? So she wound up putting me and my friend girl and a king size bed that we had to share. She showed very little empathy! And the only solution she offer us was to sleep in the king size bed that night check out the next day at 12:00 and hope that we get a room around 3 or 4:00 with a twin size bed! We just decided to keep the full size king bed and make the best of it! So aside from that the beds in the room were a little hard and they had a little couch that looked like it had just been pulled off the trash can literally it was dirty and full of rust! So we didn't use that. Aside from that everything else in the room was nice they did provide you with unlimited alcohol in a mini bar and sodas in the refrig that they replenished every day and also water bottles. Housekeeping was on point they would come in your room when you had the green sign on the door and make up your bed clean up your room and replenish your towels they were really good with that. The hotel do you have some activities they did have where you can do excursions which was really nice. They do have an on-site Spa which is really nice end a gym. The other thing that I found odd

This is the cleanest property I have ever stayed in. I was thoroughly impressed by the level and consistency of the cleanliness. However the AC in my room wouldn’t drop lower than 21 Celsius. I would have liked the option to drop it down to 17 or 18 especially in the tropics and on the 5th floor. The ceiling fan also only had one speed. Maintainance came up and couldn’t out why the fan wasn’t working. A manager was supposed to go and fix it. Never happened.

The only negative was the bed. It was very hard.

I like the hospitality, but the specialty restaurants for dinner, were closed the 3 nights we stayed in the hotel, we just got the buffet every day. The hotel needs an improvement, some areas are old. The beach is beautiful. The room was clean.

Everyone was so wonderful. The ladies and gents in the main buffet were all wonderful !!

Our stay at RIU in Ocho Rios was absolutely amazing. From the dining options to the accommodations 10 out 10. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly, and very helpful! We had a the most enjoyable time with Rojer, Errol, Michael, and Lew Wayne at the infinity ocean front swim up bar! These gentleman were the best!! We will be back!

Everything was excellent from accommodations to activities and food. The only thing they can do better is the check in process. I felt they could have provided support with our luggage’s and a map to our room. They missed out on the hospitality during check in which was our first impression. Other than that , we have a lovely time

Nice, clean, lots of amenities, almost all staff were friendly, cleaning staff, front desk, etc. The resort was clean. The bartenders were usually irritated, slightly annoyed, even a little condescending. Other than that had a great stay.

Some of the staff members are rude. I wanted to speak with a manager, the front desk attendant informed her a patron wanted to speak to her, she looked and the told the attendant to let me know she has a meeting to attend. To my surprise, she stood at the front desk for a while and refused to speak with me. Most of the staff needs customer training including supervisor. The food is good, however, they need more Jamaican dishes, not American dishes. People go to the island to experience the culture and get Spanish culture.

Check-in’s at 3pm-we didn’t get a key to our room until 4:38pm and still couldn’t go in the room until 5pm cause it “wasn’t ready. This was also after going back and forth with front desk cause they tried to put us in a ONE bed room. We reserved a room with two beds! DO NOT get a room on the ground floor! They have roaches in them! Oh and if you’re going for all-inclusive to drink, do NOT stay at Riu in Ocho Rios cause the water down their alcohol. The entertainment they have each night is top tier though!!! The one housekeeping lady named Sabrina was the best as well! Everything else makes me not want to ever book this place again unfortunately.

Excellent Jamaican food! Rooms well stocked. Staff friendly & helpful. Beach is decent not excellent. Centrally located. Entertainment good! Solid 4 star!

The food options were great and the property is just off the end of the highway. Beautiful scenary of the beach and grounds. The only problem that stood out to me is that food is not accessible after hours i.e. from 10pm to 7am.

Great location, only 15 mins to Dunns River Falls. The resort is well kept and clean. The staff is professional, courteous and efficient. Beach views are amazing, especially walking in at the main entrance. It feels as if you’ve entered paradise. Food is good, lots of variety.

The hotel is located in a convenient location.

Far from airport 2 plus hour drive it’s more for family with small kids

Beautiful property, clean rooms and decent food for a resort. Only issue is if you booked through Expedia, you do not have access to the airport shuttle to the hotel, which is over an hour and 30 minutes away. Taxi from the airport to this hotel it’s over $100 one way so be mindful of shuttle options before you book.

Nice place, family friendly. Couple of areas could be improved upon, the SPA pool was unavailable, the buffet was good overall, but repetitive. The staff were generally helpful, but about 1 in 3 interactions with the staff were unfriendly.

The resort was great, the restaurants had good food, and the people were very friendly.

Ok stay not the best but one of the worst. Food in buffet is repetitive each day they might have one or two dishes that change same food for lunch and dinner also. Specialty restaurants was hard to reserve and the food is bad that one of the restaurant have to get food from buffet because they run out of food. Overall not going back even it’s for free.

Staff , food and amenities were great. Even though I was promised a bottle of champagne for my wedding anniversary, it was not delivered.

I’ll never book unless it’s adults only. The checkin was horrible and exhausting. Finally time to check-in and only one of our rooms are available. All restaurants were booked the while weekend if was 4 of us and we all got sick form the buffet restaurant all of the food was terrible. What if expect more than anything at least some Authentic Jamaican food it was none.

Went to the steakhouse for dinner one night and it was not good. I was quite disappointed. Will definitely just stick to the buffet in the future.

The food wasn't great. The menu didn't change a lot in the buffets I was surprise I couldn't get sea food salads on the salad station. Also there were not people in the beach asking for drinks like in other Riu resorts The place is beautiful and the beach is amazing!
