On the face of it, a nice pub with rooms (not really a hotel). Check-in was good, Breakfast was nice, there is on-site EV charging, and the rooms were fitted out nicely. However fundamentally the rooms are not fit for purpose. Our room was downstairs with another room above and you could hear every single footstep and conversation, which went on from 11pm to 1am. Also the bathroom ceiling was covered in fresh black mould in the shower due to lack of ventilation. Brought both to the attention of the staff in the morning. They apologised. But sadly would not recommend anyone to stay there for these reasons.

We booked super last minute on a Monday evening but still had a very lovely welcome! All of the staff we met were amazing and the room was lovely. Super dog friendly with a lovely garden area for walking them - breakfast in the morning was really good also! Will definitely return soon and make sure we have time for dinner and drinks in the evening!

Super old building easy parking simple quick check in, dog friendly, polite fun staff, parts of the place need some urgent investment, but shower room i had was new ish and excellent, rooms spotless and quiet. Kitchen breakfast wide choice great eggs and mushrooms. Good coffee. Dinner more good ingredients with some unusual pairings. Steaks costly.. The staff were all excellent and remembered names and showed interest in whatever it was you were doing For them alone it is worth a visit.

We chose to stay here in part because of the EV chargers but they don't work. That meant we had to spend an additional 1.5 hours at a charging point 10 mins away to charge the car instead of relaxing in the hotel after check-in. 😔 The staff were excellent; very attentive and accommodating especially with our 7 month old baby! Dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious and an excellent range of dishes on offer. The room was very comfortable and the biscuits upon arrival were a very welcomed touch.

Food and staff were amazing. Our room had a small private patio, which was beautiful, and lovely for the dogs. Staff were very helpful. And the food was top notch. Beautiful setting. Was lovely having breakfast outside in the morning. Loved it.

We had no problems with the pub itself. Lovely room, clean and comfortable What let it down was the food and menu. For breakfast only granola was available, no ordinary cereals, no white or brown toast, only sourbread. Full English was available but not everyone wanted it Evening meals we thought were expensive for what you got.

Lovely place for a romantic night away. Our room was nice and spacious. Bed comfortable and meals good. The only downside would be it’s right on the road so a bit noisy at night so take earplugs if you are not used to hearing traffic however it didn’t bother us too much. Staff friendly.

Loved our stay at the Crab & Boar, a quintessential English country inn. The staff is friendly, easygoing, quite helpful and even went above and beyond for us. Dave and Tammy were fantastic. The food was quite good. Prices seem reasonable. Drive to close by Newbury is a short distance. Very nice and handy Speedy Queen launderette in town. Quiet but for the occasional car whizzing by. Being from the USA and driving for the first time in the UK, the location on Wantage Road and pulling in and out was a little scary. Getting an available Uber was challenging, but the local cab service was very quick. Other than the tricky road visibility, no complaints.

After a day negotiating bad traffic and poor weather, this was a welcome sanctuary and both the food and the service were very good. There was an issue with a discrepancy between our Hotels.com booking and the details held by the venue. They dealt with this fairly and equitably, my advice book direct.
